Whether you consider yourself a leader or not, by this point in your life you have had several leadership experiences. In this assignment, you will relate what you consider to be your personal best leadership experience.
To complete this assignment, follow these steps:

  1. Describe your personal best leadership experience. This can be an experience that happened recently or even several years ago. Perhaps it was in high school or just last semester. It could have happened on a sports team, in a social organization, at church, with your family or friends, or in a group project. In a few paragraphs, write out what happened. Be sure to describe the situation, including who was involved, what your role was, and the outcomes. 
  2. Describe how you and others felt during the encounter and any specific leadership actions you took. How did you get the people involved? What were you feeling (anxious, nervous, proud, excited)? What do you think the other people were feeling? What specific leadership actions did you take? How did you motivate others? 
  3. Reread what you wrote for the previous steps and identify three to five leadership lessons that you took away from the experience.
  4. Based on those leadership lessons, recommend one single piece of leadership advice you could give to someone else.

Consider the following scenario: Joanne has been with the same company for 6 years, working her way to IT manager. She has had four people reporting to her, and she has had a good relationship with her own supervisor who works remotely, giving Joanne plenty of autonomy. The company has recently undergone restructuring, however, and Joanne has been called into a meeting to review some imminent changes. Instead of the promotion she had been anticipating as a result of many extra hours and special projects, Joanne now will have eight direct reports but no increase in pay, while the two other managers at her level only have five direct reports. Joanne will have a new supervisor in the same office—a known micromanager with a penchant for unprofessional outbursts. In addition, she and the rest of the IT department will no longer be eligible for bonuses, and the company can no longer afford to match retirement funds. Can you predict the impact of these changes on Joanne’s job attitudes? If you were told that Joanne had no plans to leave the company, could you understand why, or would you be surprised?

Several areas are identified in the chapter as applicable to the requirements of a psychology professional. These include application of critical thinking, professional writing and communications, and codes of conduct. Specifically in the preamble of the APA’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct (Links to an external site.), it states that instructors are obligated to encourage ethical standards by students. Hence it is important that you illustrate that you understand the importance of these ethical practices in this course.

With this in mind, reflect on your own journey in academics by considering the following sentence starters as you write your journal:

An Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) is a data model while Data Flow Diagrams (DFDs) are process models.

They have several other designers that they are interviewing, and you decide to create a video presentation to impress them to choose you as their website designer.

    As you begin your presentation, you decide that your design will include the following visual concepts and elements:

    4. Charts and Graphs
    5. Images
    6. In designing these visual elements, you keep the target audience of patients and medical clients as the main focus.
