Case Study 9-1

The Toyota Motor Company is a global automobile manufacturer that operates on five different continents. In the United States, it runs five major assembly plants. To manage its operations efficiently and effectively around the globe, Toyota uses several types of information systems. It uses the Internet and global networks to communicate with its offices, plants, and dealerships around the globe.

Toyota is one of the founders of the Toyota Production System, an early version of the Just In Time (JIT) inventory system. This system allows Toyota to have on hand the exact number of components needed at any time in order to continue its operations, given that waste often occurs when components are inventoried and stored. To use a JIT inventory system, Toyota’s GIS must be capable of managing real-time inventory, not only within its own manufacturing facilities but in all of its suppliers’ facilities. Because of this, Toyota requires all of its suppliers to have a system capable of interfacing with the one Toyota uses for its own operations. Toyota worked with Dell, Microsoft, and WorldCom to develop a “Dealer Daily” system that offers a centralized data center for the more than 1,100 Toyota and Lexus dealers in the United States. This system allows dealers to spend more time focusing on selling cars and less time on paperwork.

For example, the system is capable of providing a response to a financing application in 15 seconds. Using Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1, Toyota Motor Europe (TME) implemented Toyota’s Vehicle Order Management (VOM) system. This system, which encompasses 13 countries, enables TME to improve its European operations by reducing delivery time to customers and managing inventory more efficiently. As a result, the system reduces operating costs.

Case studies with working and differential diagnosis

27-year old female

5’6” 125 pounds

No Known Drug Allergies

Current medications – none

CC:  Nausea, vomiting and extreme dizziness

Patient reports that over the last year she has experiences episodes of extreme dizziness leading to nausea and vomiting.  When asked if she has any additional symptoms, she states she suffers from unsteadiness, diarrhea and ringing in the ears.  When asked is she has noticed any pattern regarding her condition (i.e., how it starts, what stops it, how it changes over time), the patient says that she has noticed fullness in the ear before the dizziness begins.  She denies any hearing impairment but says the attacks can last up to 12 hours.  She is willing to do or try anything for them to stop because it affects her ability to work.

Working diagnosis : Meniere disease

Differential diagnosis : otitis media,

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo

External otitis (acute)

Need to do :

1. You must complete all three case studies.  In order for your work to be considered complete and eligible for full points, you will need to follow all of these instructions.

2. From the conditions that we have covered this term, choose one working diagnosis and three other differential diagnoses, for a total of four diagnoses, that you will discuss for each case. Clearly state what you think the best diagnosis is for each. Using narrative format (i.e., written in paragraph form with complete sentences), discuss the following:

• Which risk factors, signs, symptoms, labs, etc., led you to choose each diagnosis?

• Drawing on the risk factors, signs, symptoms, labs, etc., explain why the working diagnosis was ruled in and why the differentials were ruled out.

• As a general rule of thumb, each case should be about 2 pages long; it is possible for them to be shorter or longer depending on individual style and each case’s details.

RESEACH ESSAY

  • This week, we plunge forward with writing our Research Essay, in which we share all the information we gathered from reading our quality sources.
Objective Tone and Use of Outside Sources
Remember to stay neutral and objective, and just present the facts. Remember, as well, to use a mix of mostly paraphrasing and summarizing, with some blended, direct quotes thrown in for good measure to really emphasize or illustrate your points.
    Citations
Don’t forget to cite your sources within the text of your paper, and to reference them at the end. Make sure to use the APA Style resources in the library! There are specific requirements for APA Style formatting!
    Academic Essay Format
Remember to use your academic essay format to keep you on track, and to keep the reader clear about your organization. Remember, too, to not go too overboard: this is a Research Essay meant to be only two or three pages long (850 words). Therefore, you will not want to use more than one or two sources. Make sure that you have an introduction, a body, and a conclusion, as well as a References page.
As with the Narrative Essay, you may want to submit your draft to a classmate, tutor, or instructor, for feedback or help with editing. If you would like instructor feedback, two full business days must be allowed for turn-around. (In this case, it must be received by the end of the day Wednesday in order to have the feedback available to you in time to make changes for your Final Draft submission, which is due on Sunday of this week.)
To prepare you to get those APA Style citations and references correct, you will read Chapter 14 and work with it in your MH Connect SmartBook work. To help your writing become even more varied and stylistic, you will also review colons in the LearnSmart Achieve work for this week.
Synthesizing the information you got from researching into your own writing can be tricky; the PowerPoint Concrete Detail and Commentary: A Helpful Equation will teach you how to do this well, so that you have enough of your own writing and also enough cited, researched information.
Finally, to help you make sure that you do not have any plagiarism in your Research Essay, you will complete a video tutorial and discuss it in the Discussion Forum for this week.
  • Week 8 Objectives
