Ways of Knowing

Purpose

The purpose of the graded collaborative discussions is to engage faculty and students in an interactive dialogue to assist the student in organizing, integrating, applying, and critically appraising knowledge regarding advanced nursing practice. Scholarly information obtained from credible sources as well as professional communication are required. Application of information to professional experiences promotes the analysis and use of principles, knowledge, and information learned and related to real-life professional situations. Meaningful dialogue among faculty and students fosters the development of a learning community as ideas, perspectives, and knowledge are shared.

Activity Learning Outcomes

Through this discussion, the student will demonstrate the ability to:

  • Demonstrate logical and creative thinking in the analysis and application of a theory to nursing practice. (PO 2 and 5)
  • Examine broad theoretical concepts as foundational to advanced nursing practice roles. (PO 1 and 2)
  • Analyze theories from nursing and relevant fields with respect to the components, relationship among the components, and application to advanced nursing practice. (PO 1)
  1. Integration of Evidence: The student post provides support from a minimum of one scholarly in-text citation with a matching reference andassigned readings or online lessons, per discussion topic per week.

Preparing the Assignment

Nursing knowledge is classified in a variety of ways, one of which is Carper’s Patterns of Knowing (Carper, 1978). Carper’s framework offers a lens through which the nurse can reflect upon insights acquired through empirical, ethical, personal, and aesthetic knowledge (Carper, 1978). Through intentional reflection using Carper’s Patterns of Knowing, nurses can process experiential learning and knowledge acquired through practice. The purpose of this assignment is to reflect upon a specific practice situation and better understand the professional knowledge and insights obtained through that experience.

Criteria for Content

  1. Think of a surprising or challenging practice situation in which you felt underprepared, unprepared, or uncomfortable.
  2. Select an important nursing issue/topic that was inherent to the identified situation.
  3. Briefly explain the situation
  4. Identify the nursing issue inherent in the identified situation
    1. As a method of refection, use Carper’s Patterns of Knowing to analyze the situation. In your discussion, address ONE of the following Patterns of Knowing:
      1. What do you think was the underlying reason for the situation? (Esthetics)
      2. What were your thoughts and feeling in the situation? (Personal)
      3. What was one personal belief that impacted your actions? (Ethics)
      4. What evidence in nursing literature supports the nursing importance of the identified issue? (Empirical)
  5. What new insights did you gain through this reflective practice opportunity? How will this apply to your practice as a nurse practitioner? Be sure to use scholarly literature to support your position.

Must be 300-350 words

Once you are down with the initial post complete a 1-2 paragraph reflection

Write 1-2 paragraphs reflecting on ways of knowing and the use of metaparadigm in the NP role. Then save the reflection as a Word Document for submission later in the course. In week 8, you will submit all reflections as a single document.
This reflection is worth 5 points and the final reflection document in week 8 is worth 15 points.

You will need to post your reflection here before you are able to see other students’ posts.

  • Provide one specific example of how you achieved the weekly objectives.
  • What do you value most about your learning this week?
  • What else about the weekly topics do you need to explore to further grow as a future NP?

memo

Overview

You work as a middle manager for one of the top U.S. producers of luxury and mass-market automobiles and trucks. The chief technology officer (CTO) of the company from the course scenario has been researching new technology developments that the company could integrate into its vehicles to enhance their usefulness and access to sensor data. Such data is acquired by the many digital sensors that have been integrated into vehicle subsystems over the past 20–30 years. The technology trend of particular interest to the CTO is the internet of things (IoT), the interconnection of embedded devices such as sensors and computers over the internet to share data. For automobiles, the trend points to creating connected cars.

Prompt

Senior management has decided to explore IoT for the company’s trucks and cars. Your task is to create an internal memo explaining that the company should integrate IoT into its product line using the RWW (real, win, worth it) screening tool from the Module One resources and the information from the CTO Brief, Comparative Growth Data, Comparative Operating Statistics, and Comparative Product Plans documents. Consider the following:

  1. Discuss the feasibility of the product line (refer to RWW screening tool question number one: Is it real?).
  • Is there a need or desire for the product?
  • Is the size of the potential market adequate?
  • Can the product actually be made?
  • Will the final product satisfy the market?
  1. Discuss the ability of the company to win market share (refer to RWW screening tool question number two: Can we win?).
  • Will your company’s products have a competitive advantage?
  • How will your competitors respond?
  • Can your company understand the market properly?
  1. Discuss the potential benefits to the company of producing this product (refer to RWW screening tool question number three: Is it worth doing?).
  • Will the product be profitable at an acceptable risk?
  • Does launching the product make strategic sense?
  • Does the product fit your company’s overall growth strategy?
  • Will your company’s senior management support this project?
  1. Based on the answers to the questions above, explain the reasons why IoT and connected cars are strategically important to the company.
  • Consider the evolving customer needs and desires; how would they impact the company’s product plan?
  • What do you think competitors will do (if anything) in response to changes in your company’s development plan?
  • Do you think that accelerating development of connected cars will help grow the company?

Guidelines for Submission

This memo should be a Word document of 1–2 pages in length using double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins. Any references should be cited in APA format. Consult the Shapiro Library APA Style Guide for more information on citations.

Workers Compensation

There are two questions.  Please post in separate attachments.

1. In Unit VI of this course, you will be tasked with writing about the dispute process when workers believe that they are treated unjustly. For this assignment, you will be creating an annotated bibliography of resources on the dispute process.

The resources you identify in this bibliography will be used in writing your assignment in Unit VI. By locating the necessary resources in this bibliography, you will be prepared to write your paper in Unit VI.

Generally, a workers’ compensation dispute is a disagreement between the system participants (e.g., the injured worker, the employer, the employer’s insurance company) that must be settled by the state-specific workers’ compensation board. Most (but not all) disputes generally involve three main areas:

an indemnity dispute involving compensability or liability,

a medical fee dispute for healthcare already provided where the payment has been reduced or denied, or

a medical necessity dispute, disputing if a medical procedure is actually medically necessary.

Using these common disputes as well as others, create an annotated bibliography, and show how those resources will support your paper by briefly describing the content of each article or referenced source.

When writing your bibliography, think about the different types of coverage available to employees and the fundamentals of claim management. Be sure to include information about these in your bibliography.

There is no minimum page count for this assignment, but you must include six-to-ten sources in your bibliography and your entry for each reference should be at least 250 words.

2. You are the safety manager for a company that produces widgets in the state of Kentucky. Your business has a solid reputation and is growing and looking to expand to Texas and Georgia in the next few years. The Senior Leadership Team (SLT) wants a better understanding of what insurance coverage they need to have for workers’ compensation moving forward in these three states.

You have partnered with the workers’ compensation manager, and you want to give the SLT a feel for how much money they have spent the past few years and what they should consider for future workers’ compensation insurance coverage. Using information you have learned thus far in the course, make a proposal to the SLT on items they should consider, based on fairly hard facts. Do this by using the OSHA “Safety Pays” Program found here: https://www.osha.gov/dcsp/smallbusiness/safetypays/index.html

Last year, your company had 12 sprains, four cases of carpal tunnel syndrome, one crushing incident, and the loss of vision for three employees. Your company also has a 6.7% profit margin. Your company pays the first $100,000 aggregate for each category of injuries, and then the insurance company pays the rest.

Use the data displayed above, create slides that discuss the following:

Discuss how many compensable injuries happened last year. Explain how many incidents and how much and what could happen if the workforce doubled.

Estimate the total direct costs, indirect costs, and the amount of sales of widgets that are needed to cover the total cost of all the company accidents.

Provide guidance on which states should be considered 3A states and 3C states in the workers’ compensation insurance policy.

Identify if these projected three states would practice extraterritorial and reciprocity with the main state, and explain to the SLT the impact of these statutory guidelines.

Determine if the employer would need any other extra insurance (insurance that would cover a workplace accident not covered by workers’ compensation) or if they should they just pay out of pocket.

Your PowerPoint presentation must be a minimum of eight slides, not counting the title slide or references slides. You must use a minimum of two resources (including the OSHA Safety Pays website) for your presentation. You should include a combination of text and diagrams and pictures if they add value. All in-text citations and references should be displayed in appropriate APA style.

The Importance of an Effective Cover Letter and Resume

The purpose of this assignment is to conduct research on potential job opportunities in your desired career field and determine the importance of tailoring a resumé and cover letter for that specific job position.

On average a resumé and cover letter have less than 10 seconds to make an impression and provide an opportunity for the applicant to move on to the interviewing process. Therefore, securing employment often hinges on creating an effective resumé and cover letter that aligns with the required job skills and experience.

Conduct research on a minimum of two potential job positions within your desired career field. Reflect in 250-500 words on the following questions regarding the specific organizations as well as the skills, knowledge, and experience needed to obtain these positions.

  • Provide a brief introduction of your desired career field.
  • Provide an overview of each organization and the specific position you are applying to. You are required to include the name of the company, their website, social media handles, and approximate number of employees.
  • Describe 2-3 facts about the company that are interesting to you and explain why you want to work for this company in the future.
  • Describe the knowledge, skills, and experience required by the job positions selected. What knowledge, skills, experiences, or other opportunities do you need to obtain in order to be eligible for these job positions?
  • Explain the significance of drawing connections between the requirements listed in the job descriptions and your resumé and cover letter, relevant to your career field. Determine how you would make those connections within your resumé and cover letter to ultimately gain the hiring manager’s attention.

While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. A link to the LopesWrite technical support articles is located in Course Materials if you need assistance.

Response Required Discussion

please prepare the 2 responses for below discussion post in 50 to 75 words

The response to incidents is a phase, not an isolated event. Teams should take a cohesive and structured approach to any incident in order for incident reaction to be successful. In order to effectively resolve the broad range of security incidents that an organization might encounter, there are five essential steps that any response program should cover – that includes preparation, detection and reporting, analysis, containment and neutralization and the post incident activity (Bandos, 2019).

Preparation:

The secret to efficient incident response is planning. Without predetermined protocols, even the best incident management team cannot handle an incident effectively. To help the staff, a strong strategy must be in place. These features should be included in an incident response plan in order to resolve security incidents successfully – Create and document IR policies, establish communicate protocols, incorporate threat intelligence feeds, conduct cyber hunting exercises and access the threat detection capabilities.

Create and Document IR policies: Define incident response management policies, procedures and agreements.

Establish Communication Protocols: Develop criteria and guidelines for communication to allow for smooth communication during and after an incident.

Incorporate Threat Intelligence Feeds: Execute the threat intelligence feeds constantly capture, evaluate, and synchronize.

Conduct cyber hunting exercises: To identify incidents occurring within your environment, execute operational threat hunting exercises. This encourages more constructive reaction to accidents.

Assess the threat Detection Capabilities: Assess your existing capability for threat detection and upgrade systems for risk evaluation and enhancement.

Detection and reporting:

In order to identify, warn and report possible security incidents, the aim of this process is to track security events.

Controlled monitoring: Use firewalls, intrusion prevention systems, and data loss prevention to monitor security incidents in your network.

Detect: Detect by correlating warnings inside a SIEM solution to possible security incidents.

Alert: Analysts build a ticket for an incident, record initial observations and allocate an initial classification for an incident.

Report: The reporting process should provide room for escalations in regulatory reporting.

Analysis:

During this point, the bulk of the effort is made to correctly scope and interpret the security incident. To collect data from instruments and systems for further study and to recognise signs of compromise, resources should be used. In-depth expertise and a comprehensive understanding of live device responses, digital forensics, memory analysis, and malware analysis should be accessible to individuals.

Containment and neutralization:

This is one of the most important incident response levels. The containment and neutralization strategy are based on the intelligence gathered during the review process and the compromise indicators. Normal operations will resume after the system is restored and security is checked.

Post Incident Activity:

After the incident is settled, there is more work to be done. Make sure that any details that can be used to avoid similar events from occurring again in the future is properly recorded.

A proper IR plan design is important for any organization to respond to the incidents. To make a rapid and thorough determination of who, what, how, where, and why the IR plan should be straightforward, easy and direct the incident response team (Kashalkar, 2016). The strategy should also provide detailed instructions so that the company can identify the under-attack structure and data and take steps to protect vital assets. The functions and duties of all the stakeholders are clearly set out. Businesses, and each individual employee in particular, must have a clear understanding of their tasks to be performed in the event of an incident, and adequate steps must be taken to minimize the effect and protect the loss of confidential data. The IR plan should not be limited only to the department of IT or defense. The IR plan is only successful if both the technical and non-technical teams are dedicated and engage in the implementation of the IR plan, such as Legal, Compliance, Human Resources, Public Relations, etc. Take the time to establish relationships with internal and external stakeholders that might be able to respond to a critical incident by supporting the organization. Establish a system for incident classification so that you can prioritize the tasks of incident response properly. For future remediation purposes, classification will also assist you to extract meaningful metrics such as form, intensity, attack vector, effects, and root cause. Finally, the IR approach should fit with the corporate objectives. Identify what matters most to your company and weave those goals into your IR operations.

An incident is an unplanned interruption or reduction of quality in any network. Incident response management is the hero of software development and IT operations. A good incident response process works behind the scenes to ensure issues are resolved quickly so that communication, performance, and development can continue to operate the network. In a world where security and business risks are at a high point, companies must invest in an incident response management process. “The modern cloud architecture dictates the requirements for the forensic investigation and incident response model such as being scalable, elastic, easy to integrate – integration with data plane, and easy to manage – integration with control plane” (Adamov, & Carlsson, 2016).

Incident response in the cloud brings its challenges and unique requirements as well. By using some cloud incident response best practices to make sure incidents don’t become crises. Some best practices of cloud computing are discussed below.

Put a process in place before an incident happens: We can’t be able to predict every type of incident or situation that needs to address. So, it’s important to be prepared.

Incident response in the cloud helps in many factors like resolve incidents faster, improve internal and external communication, reduce revenue losses, and promote continuous learning and improvement. “Cloud is able to combine numerous heterogeneous resources (hardware platforms, storage back ends, file systems) that may be geographically distributed” (Urias, et. al., 2016).

Where the data and event occurs, we will have to implement a response immediately. When we work with stakeholders, legal counsel, and organizational leadership to determine only the goal of incident response. Some common goals include containing the issue, recovering the affected resources, preserving data for forensics, resolve the issue rapidly, and attribution.

In incident response, we can assess the impact and prioritize risks using key monitoring systems and escalation and diagnosis processes. But before that, make sure to clear channels of communication between team members, as well as outlined expectations for responsibility. Explain all the priority and severity levels before an incident occurs so incident managers can quickly assess and determine priorities in the heat of the moment. Address all future incidents response in order of the priority list of any organization. “A large number of research efforts have focused on intrusion detection in industrial networks, however, few of them discuss what to do after an intrusion has been detected” (Piedrahita, et. al., 2018).

Cloud computing is large and complex as well, with many moving parts to track and monitor to any network. It’s important to invest in the right incident management tools to support cloud incident response processes. Visualize all the processes and map cloud architecture to keep everyone on the same page and prevent incidents from falling through the cracks or prevent networks from cyber attacks (Adamov, & Carlsson, 2016).

When we come to incident response, there’s no such thing as too much communication. We take advantage of incident response playbooks, messaging scripts, and process flows to ensure every one of our team is on the same page.

TYPES OF TRAINEE DISCUSSION AND REPLY TO MARCIA AND DONALDS DISCUSSION

TYPES OF TRAINEES DISCUSSION:

A successful trainer needs to effectively engage various types of  trainees and adapt quickly in the learning environment to meet their  needs. Chapter 8 of the Blanchard and Thacker (2013) text lists and  offers tips on dealing with different participant personalities. Review  the three scenarios below. Discuss how you would effectively engage and  manage each group of participants in a 2-day training seminar. Apply two  to three specific adult learning principles and/or techniques to each  of the scenarios listed below.

Scenario A
Your colleague is a training specialist who has just  concluded an activity on techniques for overcoming challenges in the  classroom. He clearly understood the content, but did not ask questions  of the group to confirm their understanding. In addition, when  explaining activities, the directions were not clear and there was never  an opportunity to ask for clarification. What constructive feedback  would you give to your colleague?

Scenario B
Your colleague is a department manager who has just  opened a training session. Her opening included group introductions, but  she went directly into presenting content. About an hour later, a few  participants began talking out of turn. What feedback would you give to  your colleague on the impact this may have had on participants, and what  could have been done differently to avoid this situation?

Scenario C
Your colleague is a human resources manager who just  completed an activity followed by a group discussion. The activity went  well, but the debrief did not. As the facilitator, he had trouble  getting the group to answer his questions. The group did not appear to  be very engaged. What feedback could you give him on how he could get  participants to participate?

Your initial post should be 250 to 300 words. Use this week’s lecture  as a foundation for your initial post. In addition to the Blanchard and  Thacker (2013) text, use at least one additional scholarly source to  support your discussion.

Respond to at least two other posts regarding items you found to be  compelling and enlightening. To help you with your reply, please  consider the following questions:

  • What did you learn from the posting?
  • What additional questions do you have after reading the posting?
  • What clarification do you need regarding the posting?
  • What differences or similarities do you see between your initial discussion thread and your classmates’ postings?
  • What are the differences or similarities in the techniques  recommended in your discussion compared to those identified by others?
  • Analyze the recommendations made by others for each scenario. Do you  agree or disagree with the recommendations? Why or why not? Provide  examples where possible.

Your reply posts for Donald and Marcia should be a minimum of 150-250 words each.

DONALDS DISCUSSION:

Scenario A-

The constructive criticism I would give my colleague would be to  speak up, if you cant hear the instructor then tell he or she to speak  louder. In addition, at the end of every lecture there should be a  answering questions portion, were everyone has a chance to reaffirm what  they thought or to get clarification on what is going on. When teaching  in a classroom the instructor always need to be clear and concise. At  the end of the lecture there should also be a sort of follow along test  or quiz for everyone to follow to brush up on what was being covered.

Scenario B-

The feedback I would give my colleague would be to start off with a  icebreaker before the training session actually begins and the content  isn’t understood. Blanchard, P. N., & Thacker, J. W. (2013) state  that,”An icebreaker is a game or exercise that prompts trainees to get  comfortable interacting with other trainees and the trainer. It is  designed to be fun but at the same time generate energy that will  transfer to the rest of the training”. When starting the training  session make sure there are ample amounts of bathroom breaks and letting  your audience know that it is ok to ask questions on anything they dont  understand.

Scenario C-

The feedback I would give my colleague would be that he or she didn’t  ask enough questions at the start of the session. Keeping the audience  in gaged on what you want them to learn is the key for them to keep  participating.4MAT 4Business(2010) state that,” everyone has a different  learning styles and everyone processes information differently”.  Including the audience while the activity is going on well help them  stay focused to give more points about what happened from the activity  to now.

MARCIAS DISCUSSION:

A  successful trainer will understand that there are different types of  trainees that he or she will have to deal with during training sessions  and this means that they need to be flexible. Each type of trainee has  unique characteristics that the trainer will need to deal with in order  to ensure successful transfer of training. The four main personality  types discussed in our text include the quiet trainee, the talkative  trainee, the angry trainee, and the comedian (Blanchard & Thacker,  2013). In scenario A, we are unsure of the personalities of the trainees  because the trainer never bothered to engage his audience in questions  and further insight. Audience participation and interaction should be  integrated into the training session and he needs to be very clear in  his explanations and instructions. The transfer of ideas between trainer  and trainees will enhance the learning experience for all.

In scenario B, the trainer should have included a session of  icebreakers. Icebreakers serve as means for trainees to get to know one  another as well as their trainer. These simple games or conversation  starters offer a way to ease into the training session with comfort and  high energy rather than discomfort and dread (Heathfield, 2017). This  would have been a good idea for the scenario B trainer to utilize rather  than just jumping into the training without giving the trainees an  opportunity to converse with one another. Setting a baseline of rules  against talking during the training session is another way to ensure  that there are minimal interruptions (Blanchard & Thacker, 2013).  Also, letting the audience know that there will be a time for chatting  and a question/answer period will ensure they are paying attention  rather than sneaking in opportunities to get to know one another.

The Scenario C trainer should have utilized questions throughout the  training to ensure that his audience was following along and the  transfer of learning was taking place. Keeping the audience engaged  throughout the training session, rather than just trying to connect with  them at the end, is a way to ensure they are paying attention.  Continual opportunities to ask them questions and share their insights  would make them feel as though they are a part of the training rather  than someone who is just being talked “at.” Providing games or another  variety of learning opportunities will also help to keep them engaged  (Blanchard & Thacker, 2013).

  • 12 pt font. 1 inch margins. No extra spaces between paragraphs.
  • Catchy title. Awesome introduction. Thoughtful conclusion. Build upon your arguments.
  • Make your words count. Three pages. That’s it. Be meaningful and awesome.
  • Your arguments must be framed conceptually (i.e. do not focus on one specific state) but you can provide specific examples in order to support your analysis.
  • The only sources you can use are the course text and materials listed in the syllabus. Yes, I am serious. No, you cannot email me asking if __________ is ok to use. Only use what is cited in the syllabus.
  • Make sure to cite all of your sources throughout your essays. You must cite when paraphrasing and using direct quotes. Try to refrain from using direct quotes. For the textbook, just cite the page number.
  • Zero citations throughout your paper means that you are not applying course material. Show me that you know how to critically analyze and apply the course material to this question.
  • If you plagiarize, zero.
  • The end.

Res Wknd – Practical Connection: Career Plotting

Background: Read the article at the link below by Nicole Fallon “Destination Dream Job”. Pay close attention to the roadmap outlined in the article about career progression. Fallon outlines 4 steps that one needs to take to reach their career goal (see link below). Career experts have also shared their advice for mapping out a path to one’s ultimate dream job. Those steps include: (1) Know where you want to go, (2) Focus on the tools you need, (3) Find a guide, and (4) Be open to changing your route.

Your assignment

Plot your career direction based on each step in this roadmap.  For step #1 you should look at where you are now (what industry, job, position, etc.).  Also answer where you want to go (industry, job, position, salary, etc.) from here. For step #2, I would like you to go online and explore various job announcements and position descriptions to see what you need (what experience, degree, certification, interest, passion, etc.). In this context, I also would like you to state how pursuing this degree, and this course specifically, is a tool for the career direction in which you are going. Then for step #3, do you know anyone who might be a mentor; are you pursuing opportunities to network with like-mined professionals, etc. Finally, for step #4, is there some short-term deviation from your goal that you would accept – what is it?

It should take just a short paragraph that address each of the four steps mentioned above.  The background and online research for this assignment can be done collectively in your group. However, the findings must be specific for you individually and so your post must be individual.  As I have always mentioned, do not cut and paste information from other sources – I want  your  view and in  your  words.    As your reader, I want to be able to follow whatever sources you use, so support your views (and findings) with  at least two in-text citations . This means you will also need a reference list. For this assignment (only), a url  reference is acceptable (not usually acceptable for APA).   This is an  individual assignment  which must be accomplished by you alone. Please post your paper to iLearn  NLT 6/11 – 8pm EST.

When you are ready to post, click the Res Wknd Practical Connection assignment link, then Either click the “Write Submission” link and directly paste your document into this assignment box OR Browse your Computer and add the entire Microsoft Word document as an attachment (Mac users, please remember to append the “.docx” extension to the filename).

New Works 02/08

Work #1:

Read three articles and discuss the principle of least privilege in at least 500 words. Explain how this principle impacts data security.

Use at least three sources.   Use the Research Databases available from the Danforth Library, not Google.  Include at least 3 quotes from your sources enclosed in quotation marks and cited in-line by reference to your reference list.  Example: “words you copied” (citation) These quotes should be one full sentence not altered or paraphrased. Cite your sources using APA format. Use the quotes in your paragraphs.

Write in essay format, not in bulleted, numbered, or other list format.

It is important that you use your own words, that you cite your sources, that you comply with the instructions regarding the length of your post.  Your goal is to help your colleagues write better. Do not use spinbot or other word replacement software. Proof read your work or have it edited. Find something interesting and/or relevant to your work to write about.
