The organization, clinician, and patient are all vital variables a part of the health care delivery system.  Each variable has its own set of specific aspects that are used to measure the performance level of the health care delivery system.  Therefore, resulting in each variable having a substantial amount of influence on the health care delivery system.

With today’s elevated level of competition in the health care field, the organization must ensure that it is offering high quality health care that is efficient, effective, and readily accessible for the patient.  With patient and workplace safety in mind, the organization must deliver such health care all while keeping expenses low (Cowing, Davino-Ramaya, Ramaya, Szmerekovsky, 2009, pp. 72-78).  The integrity of the organization is important because a health care organization that lacks integrity also lacks having ethical values, which are mandatory ingredients for success in the field.

The clinicians are the cornerstone of the health care delivery system.  Their influence is directly linked to the organization and the patient.  The organization provides the clinicians with the necessary resources needed to perform high quality health care on the patients.  In change, the clinicians must put forth their best efforts to ensure organizational success and achieve overall patient satisfaction (Cowing, Davino-Ramaya, Ramaya, Szmerekovsky, 2009, pp. 72-78).  The clinician’s integrity is important because the patient’s health, safety, and a portion of the organization’s reputation lies in their hands.  Patients who lack trust in their physicians do not receive satisfactory health care (Roseman University, 2016).

Lastly, the patient has a huge influence on the health care system.  Overall patient satisfaction is the goal for every health care organization because their feedbacks directly affect the organization’s reputation.  Patient integrity is important because negative feedbacks from patients can cause an organization to make drastic changes to their infrastructure.

short answer

Comfort and Pain Management

Part Two:

What is the prevalence of pain in older adults? How will you, as a nurse, be more aware of pain issues related to older adults, and what will the nurse incorporate into practice to alleviate these issues?

Persistent pain is pain that lasts for more than three months. According to Gibson and Lussier (2012), “persistent pain is one of the most prevalent health conditions faced by adults of advanced age, and is recognized as a major concern for this segment of the population.” The older population is often associated with chronic pain, which s makes it necessary for nurses to be aware of the situation and find a way to be more sensitive to the matter and incorporate it into practice to alleviate the issues. Assessing risk factors for pain could help nurses reduce pain levels among the older generation by mitigating these risks and finding solutions for them. “Chronic pain has been linked to several detrimental impacts in older persons, including mood disturbance, functional impairment, poorer sleep, and reduced quality of life” (Gibson & Lussier, 2012). Therefore, to alleviate these issues, a nurse must first understand the causes and if there are basic contributing factors such as hard mattresses and pillows.

Determining the pain level and the type of pain can help the nurse determine ways to improve the patient’s quality of life. Somatic pain affects “the bone and soft tissue masses, is well localized and is described as a throbbing or aching” while visceral pain is “associated with disorder or referred pain and I described as deep and aching” (Eliopoulos, 2018). Pain assessment through ongoing physical and cognitive examination enables the nurse to be more aware of pain issues and incorporate them into practice to alleviate the problems.

  1. Read the section on boot camps in text including section on representative boot camps. Watch following videos and read summary below. Answer the following in paragraph form.
    1. Are juvenile boot camps a valid form of treatment for juvenile offenders?
    2. What do you think are their pros and cons?
    3. What type of offender would they best serve?
    4. Would they have worked with you if you were sentenced to boot camp when you were 16 years-old?
    5. Review the following
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDEpF8IKxEM
      https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-news/life-and-death-in-a-troubled-teen-boot-camp-31639/
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4yG6yuhHqI

      What are juvenile boot camps?
Juvenile boot camps are correctional programs for delinquent youth in a military-style environment. These programs typically emphasize discipline and physical conditioning and were developed as a rigorous alternative to longer terms of confinement in juvenile correctional facilities. Many, but not all, of these programs are followed by a period of probation or some form of aftercare. Boot camps are generally restricted to non-violent or first-time offenders.
      Are boot camps effective?
Boot camps do not reduce recidivism. Numerous studies of adult and juvenile boot camps have shown that graduates do no better in terms of recidivism than offenders who were incarcerated or, in some cases, than those sentenced to regular probation supervision. In fact, some researchers have found that boot camp graduates are more likely to be re-arrested or are re-arrested more quickly than other offenders.
Boot camps may not be cost effective. Although some boot camps enable jurisdictions to save money because youth serve shorter sentences, others have found that the extra costs of operating boot camps outweigh the benefits. For example, boot camps tend to be more labor intensive and more expensive to operate. If youth are sentenced to a boot camp when they could have been placed in probation or a community-based program, jurisdictions are actually losing money.
Experts agree that a confrontational approach is not appropriate. Most correctional and military experts agree that a confrontational model, employing tactics of intimidation and humiliation, is counterproductive for most youth in the juvenile justice system. The use of this kind of model has led to disturbing incidents of abuse. For youth of color (who represent the vast majority of the juveniles sentenced to boot camps)-as well as for youth with emotional, behavioral, or learning problems-degrading tactics may be particularly inappropriate and potentially damaging. The bullying style and aggressive interactions that characterize the boot camp environment fail to model the pro-social behavior and development of empathy that these youth really need to learn.
Positive changes demonstrated while in the program may not last when a youth returns to his community. Many adult and juvenile offenders sentenced to boot camps report that the program is helpful to them and they feel more positive about their futures. It is unclear, however, whether these attitudinal changes persist after youth leave the boot camp, or whether they are related to actual changes in behavior once a youth returns to his community. Without significant therapeutic intervention while in the program, as well as specialized aftercare following release, boot camp programs have been consistently unsuccessful in “rehabilitating” juvenile or adult offenders.
Boot camps are not a “quick fix.” Most boot camps have high drop-out rates (as many as half fail to graduate in some programs), and staff in at least one juvenile program have expressed concern that too many youth lack the maturity and self-control to succeed in a military-style program. After leaving boot camp, youth are not prepared for productive lives in their communities. The Office of Justice Programs of the U.S. Department of Justice has suggested that, for boot camps to be effective, they must incorporate a full range of rehabilitative services and programs, including education, substance abuse treatment, individualized case management, and mental health care. Clearly, the idea of “shock incarceration” as a tough, low-cost alternative to more intensive juvenile justice programming has not been borne out by our 15 years of experience with boot camps across
      What is the alternative?
Youth who are involved with the juvenile justice system require an individualized approach that takes their strengths and needs into account. Programs and policies should be family-centered, including the family in all decision making about a child, as well as culturally and developmentally appropriate. Research has shown that small, community-based programs are more effective and less costly than correctional institutions, for the majority of children who come into contact with the juvenile justice system. Rather than removing children from their families and communities, which only increases their difficulties and sense of marginalization, most youth can be managed in their communities while they receive a full range of rehabilitative services, including mental health and substance abuse treatment.

MGT 423 Appreciative Inquiry

For this assignment, think about a team you currently work with or have worked with in the past and how well this team has functioned. Think about both the positives and the negatives, and how the material from the background readings applies to what you’ve experienced. Then write a 3- to 4-page paper answering the following three questions below. Make sure to cite at least one of the required readings for each of your answers, and to cite at least two of the required readings in your paper:

  1. What are some of the key positive aspects of this team? Discuss some specific positives and include some stories of times when the team functioned especially well. Do you think these stories could work in an Appreciative Inquiry approach to come up with a plan to improve the performance of the team?
  2. How is the effectiveness or performance of this team usually measured? Could a traditional organizational development approach help identify problems in this team as well as find ways in which team performance could be improved?
  3. Overall, do you think an Appreciative Inquiry or a traditional organizational development would be better for this team? If your team was to hire a consultant, what type of approach would you want the consultant to take?

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson

Read and/or listen to The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson and write about what you know about the setting of the story. Where are we? When does the story take place? What other background information is given in this passage?

Then, establish the points of view of the story. Who is telling this story? What person is it told in: 1st, 2nd, or 3rd? What are the knowledge levels of the narrators: objective, limited, or omniscient? Are the narrators reliable? How do we know? What are the tones of the narrators? What mood does this convey to the reader?

Then, re-examine Chapter 10 of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. What do you think is the theme or universal message of the novel? How does the setting or the point of view play a role in understanding this theme?

Begin your post by properly quoting and citing the passages. Then, write a 500 word discussion on the information conveyed in the passages you selected, pointing to specific words in the passage.  Connect the two passages as much as you can. End your post with a full MLA citation of the text.

Time Warner Cable Case Study

General Instructions:

After you read the Time Warner Case Study, take a look at the accompanying 13 Memos.

Take a quick review of all the memos to get a “feel” for the general issues involved.   Your mission,  should you decide to accept it,  is to tackle the following memos:

3, 5, 11,  and 12.

Please answer directly and be to the point.  An economy of style is appreciated but that does not mean you have to skip over points you deem pertinent.    Please note:  You are not required to look up journal literature to answer the questions.   However,  you may use the internet as a tool to help you answer the questions in the same way you may use the textbook and your notes.  Enter the memo responses by number in BB.   You can attach a Word file or enter your answer directly into the text box.

Memo 3 will set the stage for answering the other memos. The remaining memos, 5, 11 and 12 are concerned with various aspects of competitive strategy and pricing.

In memo 5,  you are asked about selective discounting as a strategy.

In memo 11,  besides calculating the optimal ala carte prices,  please answer why some special interest groups would be opposed to bundling and instead insist on ala carte pricing.    On the other hand,  please discuss why the Cable company is opposed to ala carte pricing and instead insists on bundling.  Is there any way to appease these select special interest groups.

Memo 12 is a Network externality question.  Here,  competition is putting pressure on existing networks and legacy pricing approaches.

Good luck,  and may the Economic force be with you.

Discussion-1:

Microsoft has the ISO 27001 certification. One of the fundamental reasons the ISO 27001 is very important for organizations like Microsoft is because it helps the organization in basically competing with the Amazon web service and other cloud-based competition. It also helps them in edging out the customers when it comes to ensuring a different level of reliability that Microsoft can offer and therefore it is not only helps the organization in marketing itself in a better way but it also helps organizations in retaining its current market share and at the same time expanding its own customer base to the outside world. This can be a business-to-business customer base or a business to customer business model. Another very important reason why Microsoft would benefit usually from the certification as it’s ability to assure it’s customers at the highest level of quality standards that it is maintaining within itself where it’s offering it service as an infrastructure-based platform to its customer.

In a large organization with Microsoft risk management becomes very important in handling different types of problems that are internal as well as external and certifications help the organization in ensuring that they are complying with the latest standards and rules and structuring problem-solving solutions in a manner that is within the compliance with the rules and with respect to the outside world. This is because there is a definite audit that is taking place in the organization in a periodic manner. This therefore helps the organization in having a certain standard maintained and therefore makes enterprise risk management easier for the organization as when one part of the organization raises the bar, all the other parts of the organization will have to comply and meet those standards.

Discussion-2:

The ISO 27001 is a set of rules and a framework that aims to set standards for security. Even though it is no legal requirement for the organization, it addresses the legal obligations of a company arising from security requirements. The current organization I am working for has not acquired the ISO 27001 certification even though we implement most of the procedures and guidelines. The cost of certification was deemed unnecessary, as I am working for a small technology start-up. If the company wanted to get  ISO 27001, they would implement the framework by implementing mandatory records, policies, and practices to become compliant and inviting a third-party accredited auditor to verify. If the company passes the audit, then the ISO 27001 certificate is issued.
There are various benefits that organizations can receive because of complying with business and legal requirements. Whether public or private, organizations must strive to be compliant with ISO 27001. First of all, certification ensures the proper implementation and compliance of proportionate and adequate security control that helps enhance information protection. The ISO 27001 certification contributes to the improvement of a structured structure approach in addressing security issues (Culot et al., 2021). It also improves security measures since it is derived from best practices.  ISO 27001 will help identifies a person responsible for every task and adds an advantage to the business since it becomes more productive after stating required information risks and responsibilities. It can help the organization minimize the number of security audits and costs of being audited, which are expensive. It also helps with company image and reputation as a secure company. Last but not least, it can prevent costly fines as it ensures the company took necessary steps to protect customer data and implemented measures for a data breach.
Upon acquiring the ISO certification, the organization can win new business and clients in their competition who does not have the certification. This is an important point as there is a trend of many companies are choosing to be certified, and according to (Disterer, 2013) ISO 27001 certification is gaining adoption in Europe and Asia. Therefore not being certified might handicap a company against competitors who have been certified. It might even preclude bidding if customers like banks and governments require ISO 27001 certification. A company might choose to ignore certifications but will eventually pay but not following best practices and structured approach outlined by ISO 27001 certification, or falling short of competitors because of not being certified or pay significant fines for not implementing legally required security measures that are addressed by ISO 27001.
