Strategic Application in Project Management – Activity 6

Activity 6:

Read the Case ” Advantage Energy Technology Data Center Migration – Part A” at the end of the chapter 6 and response to the following questions:Brian Smith, network administrator at Advanced Energy Technology (AET), has been given the responsibility of implementing the migration of a large data center to a new office location. Careful planning is needed because AET operates in the highly competitive petroleum industry. AET is one of five national software companies that provide an accounting and business management package for oil jobbers and gasoline distributors. A few years ago, AET jumped into the “application service provider” world. Their large data center provides clients with remote access to AET’s complete suite of application software systems. Traditionally, one of AET’s primary competitive advantages has been the company’s trademark IT reliability. Due to the complexity of this project, Brian will have to use a parallel method of implementation. Although this will increase project costs, a parallel approach is essential if reliability is not to be compromised.(Rest of case not shown due to length.)

  1. Generate a priority matrix for AET’s system move.
  2. Develop a WBS for Brian’s project. Include duration (days) and predecessors
  3. Using a project planning tool, generate a network diagram for this project.

Note: Base your plan on the following guidelines: eight-hour days, five-day weeks except for when Brian moves the network components over a weekend, no holiday breaks, March 1, 2010, is the project start date. Ordering Ventilation System, New Racks, and Power Supplies/Cables takes only one actual day of work. The remaining days are the time necessary for the vendors to fill and ship the order to Brian. So use Finish to Start lags here. Assume that five days after the start of the Renovation of the Data Center that the raised floor will be ready for inspection (a Start-to-Start lag).

film response

Please respond to the following question in traditional essay format:

In what ways does The Journey of August King succeed or fail in presenting a valid reconstruction of the 1800s?

Your introduction should include a clear, definitive argument. The essential task of this assignment is to take a single position and support it with evidence. Please be mindful not to support both sides of the question. Your introduction should also include the scope of the film. This includes the film’s subject matter, geographical location, time period, and larger ideas.

Two body paragraphs should support the argument in your introduction. They should feature ideas independent of one another, and they must include two textbook citations. — Each body paragraph must include two citations from the primary course textbook (American Promise). — Submissions without textual citations will receive points deductions. See the syllabus update in Blackboard for proper citation format. In short writing assignments, you are encouraged to keep quoted/paraphrased material at a minimum. Quoted material should never outweigh YOUR voice.

Your assignment must be typed and double-spaced. Times New Roman 12-point font is recommended. NO COVER PAGE or title should be used. After typing your name on line 1, please begin typing your essay on the next double-spaced line. Course information, date, and other line entries that simply take up space should NOT be included. Length should be 2-3 pages.

Finally, while there is a ton of information about the film and the historical period to be found online, PLEASE STAY OFF THE INTERNET. If any part of your essay, no matter how small, can be definitively traced to an internet site(s), you will receive a zero.

Your work must be uploaded by Wednesday, April 25, 12:30PM (73057 students) or Thursday, April 26, 11:00AM (73009 students). Late work will not be accepted.

Writing Tips:

1. Film titles should be italicized.2. 1960’s is NOT correct. 1960s is correct.3. Do NOT use contractions in formal writing assignments.4. Citations:     A. If you use a quotation from the textbook, “you must cite it like this” (213).     B. If you paraphrase material from the textbook, you must cite it like this (213).

PA301 KIM WOODS

Group Project: City Council Presentation

The City of Los Angeles, California has been struggling with a continually climbing crime rate over the past 10 years. The Mayor has authorized an additional budget of 2 million dollars to help address the increasing crime rate. Your group will need to decide how these funds should be used and create a budget, 2-page written proposal, and a PowerPoint presentation outlining how the funds will be used. You will also need to include why you believe your proposed programs or services will help to decrease or stop the increase in crime.

For this assignment you will be split up into groups of 4-5 students (based upon the number of students in the class). Each group will have its own discussion area. You will need to work together in the discussion area to assign roles and responsibilities amongst yourselves. There you can also communicate and decide how your group would like to spend the 2 million dollars in funding, potential programs and/or services that the funds could be used for, and divide out tasks to complete all the assignments. Part of your grade will be on how effectively you communicate with your group members in the discussion board. By the end of this week your group should:

·  Decide what programs and/or services that your group would like to propose (how the 2 million dollars should be spent).

·  Assign roles and responsibilities for who will do what to complete the budget, written proposal, and PowerPoint presentation. Note that it may take a few people to complete the PowerPoint presentation with one person combining all the slides together if more than one person works on the PowerPoint.

For additional support and ideas for how to get started, check out the links below to some supplemental videos:

·  Project Proposal Writing: How to Write a Winning Project Proposal

·  How to Create a Project Budget

·  How to Give an Awesome (PowerPoint) Presentation

This project is not due until the end of week 7; however, you will need to work with your group beginning in Week 5 to start assigning roles and making some decision. Note that at the end of the project in week 7 each group member will complete a peer evaluation form outlining and scoring the contributions of each of their group members. The resulting scores will be used to provide a final peer evaluation score.

Each group member must submit the entire assignment, Proposal, Budget, PowerPoint and Peer-Eval, for grading at the end of Week 7.

Death of a Salesman Final Paper Prompt

The final essay requires you to do a character study.  You will write not only about the internal conflicts of  the characters’, but also the external influences from the era in which it is set. This will require research.

I want you to go outside the literary world here and look up articles on history, psychology and sociology.  Use at least sources on the subject matter along with quotations from the play itself.

I am giving you an option for the first half of your thesis!

In order to understand the complex characters here, one must do deeper into ______

Remember this paper counts more than the others!

Topics to cover in your final essay:

1. How reliable is the narrative in Death of a Salesman?

Consider the following in your answer: Are Willy’s words to be trusted? Biff’s? How does the rotation of time affect the reliability? Is Willy suffering from a psychological breakdown? If so, what is it and what are the symptoms he is exhibiting. can any character be trusted here?

2. What does this play reveal about the American Dream? How does the reader view it through the lens of this “old man”?

Consider the following in your answer: Miller’s view of the concept of the American Dream with other traditional definitions. Is Miller subverting the American Dream or exploring the way it affects one’s expectations? Is it overly cynical (negative) or realistic? Finally, is this subject and tone still relevant today?

3. Discuss one of the many motifs in the play (i.e. stockings, diamonds, garden, jungle/woods, stealing).

Consider the following in your answer: What are the various attitudes about stockings/selected motif? Is the motif selected a symbol in the play as well? If so, how. How does the motif further the plot and overall meaning of the story? Example, the stockings are a symbol that measure Willy’s success, Biff’s recognition of his father’s betrayal, and Willy’s guilt.

4. What is the author’s view on modernity/progress? What is his purpose in including the tape recorder, new car, etc.?

5. Finally, what are the internal and external conflicts between Willy and Biff that set up this climax of the story?

Consider the following in your answer: Have new gas heaters, tape recorders, cars changed the American Dream? Relate how Willy is left behind (hint: title connotations) and is overly reliant on these innovations. Is the little guy able to survive with the advent of progress and sophistication?

8 to 10 page minimum.

MLA style – you must use at least 3 outside sources (i.e. history, psychology or critical analysis texts) and QUOTES FROM THE PLAY ITSELF.

Cyber Security Final

Instructions

The final assignment is an essay requirement to test knowledge and assimilation of the course learning objectives. The exclusive use of required texts and readings, as well as resources provided in the course is mandatory, although references to your personal experiences are allowed, if properly annotated and relevant. No outside sources are expected.

Complete the following:

A recent cyber attack occurred where a botnet type attack targeted a major US defense firm. No physical damage occurred to the firm’s network, but significant technological secrets about a new surveillance and targeting system from the firm, Defense Applications International (DAI), appear to have been compromised. Incidental, but nonetheless as a result of the attack, the virus also infected a software program that DAI was testing at electrical plant in Pennsylvania. The plant had to be shut down for 12 hours while repairs were made. The NSA believes it has credible evidence that the attack had a direct connection to the elite cyber unit Department 2112, of the country of Redistan, an adversary of the United States, although the attack itself appears to include private citizens of Redistan. The attack, however, was routed through several third countries including Bluelandia, an ally of the United States.

You are a new cyber desk officer working for the National Security Council. The Deputy National Security Advisor has asked you to write a memorandum addressing key issues of cyber policy. In the memorandum you have been asked to address the following issues:

1. Based off of the facts we know, should the attack be considered a crime, espionage or act of war? What should the US response be? How can the US best defend itself from future attacks such as the one that just occurred?

2. Should the United States assign US Cyber Command with the responsibility of protecting certain private companies and if so, what should the general standard be for determining what companies the government should be responsible for defending?

3. Should the United States lead the effort at an international cyber agreement? Why or why not? What challenges would the President face in trying to get an agreement? Are there any alternatives?

4. Are there any substantive changes that should be made to the current US cyber policy?

Note: In crafting your memorandum you may allocate the content according to the importance of the issue. For example, you can allocate several pages to one issue if you believe it deserves more attention than the others; however, ensure that each question specified by the Deputy National Security Advisor is addressed. If you have read and understood the course material this will be a challenging, yet straight forward assignment.

Technical Requirements

  • Your paper must be at a minimum of 8-10 pages (the Title and Reference pages do not count towards the minimum limit).
  • Scholarly and credible references should be used. A good rule of thumb is at least 2 scholarly sources per page of content.
  • Type in Times New Roman, 12 point and double space.
  • Students will follow the current Turabian Style as the sole citation and reference style used in written work submitted as part of coursework.
  • Points will be deducted for the use of Wikipedia or encyclopedic type sources. It is highly advised to utilize books, peer-reviewed journals, articles, archived documents, etc.

Social Bonding Theory

Travis Hirshi’s social bonding theory is a form of social control. While other criminological theories attempt to explain why crime occurs, social bonding theory explains why people conform to the norms of society and away from deviant and antisocial behaviors. Many argue the threat of punishment as being a deterrent. However, Travis Hirshi, in his contentions, believes there are other factors beyond punishment that are responsible for conformity. Review Chapter 7 in your primary text, and watch The Social Bond Theory  (Links to an external site.)video, which provides examples of the four elements of the theory (Siegel, 2015; Hiemstra, 2013). In your paper,

  • Explain Travis Hirschi’s social bonding theory.
  • Describe the four elements of social bonding theory.
  • Discuss how the social bonding theory affects conformity in America.
  • Discuss the relationship between social bonding theory and the various sociological schools of crime causation.

Your paper must

  • Be three to five double-spaced pages in length (not including title and references pages) and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center (Links to an external site.).
  • Include a separate title page with the following:
    • Title of paper
    • Student’s name
    • Course name and number
    • Instructor’s name
    • Date submitted
  • Use at least five scholarly sources in addition to the course text and the article being evaluated.
  • Document all sources in APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
  • Include a separate references page that is formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

Management of Project, Risk, Quality and Safety

Health and Safety and Quality On line Test The online H&S and Quality test – will be available on Study Space under  assessments. Date and Time of Test: Monday 19 April 2021, 9.00 am Learning outcomes covered:  • Understand and contract toe roles of various parties in the successful  collaborative management of health and safety during both design and  construction phases of construction. • Evaluate likelihood and impact of risk occurrence and procedures to manage  those risks, including health and safety risk. • Appraise quality management techniques. Instructions for taking the online test The test is to be taken individually on-line, as per the timetable in the module  assessment pack. It will be available via Canvas/VLE. Once started, the test has to  be finished at one sitting. The maximum duration of the test is 80 minutes. The test will be an open book test i.e. you can refer to notes books etc. If your access to the University computer system is blocked or suspended for any  reason (e.g. financial) during the test time period, you will not be able to take the test  and you will lose these marks. The University action in this regard is designed to stop  you from undertaking assessment of your education while the particular situation  exists, in the same way as you would be excluded from examinations. It is your 4 responsibility to ensure that your computer access is not blocked in this way,  and please note that it can take up to 10 days to restore computer access after  such a suspension is resolved. There will be a practice test under assignments, which you can take as many times as  you wish. The practice test contains 40 questions and you should aim to complete this  in 40 Minutes if you wish to simulate exam conditions. The button to “save” your answer and arrow to move on to the next question are  located on the right of the screen at the top and bottom respectively – the arrow button  is small. Note the mouse pointer should turn to a ‘hand’ on each of the arrow buttons. At the end of the final question there is a “Submit” button (instead of the arrow) which  you must reach and click in order to submit your answers and obtain a mark. Make  sure your window is wide enough to locate all these buttons. If you cannot see them  (e.g. sometimes the buttons are obscured by the “time elapsed” box), your browser  may be incorrectly configured. Go through the practice test before you undertake the test to check for difficulties.  Occasionally the practice test will work satisfactorily, but buttons will then be obscured  in the actual test. If this happens, try moving the mouse pointer around the screen  over the area where the button should be, and look for it to change to a ‘hand’. Click  the mouse here, and the test should proceed. Once you have clicked “Begin” you have started your attempt, and you must complete  the test. You cannot “just have a look”. Do not try to refresh the page, go back to a  previous page, zoom the page, or undertake other tasks on the computer e.g. open  another window or another application (e.g., Email). All of these actions are likely to  end your attempt and give you a mark of zero. You only get one attempt at the test.  If you have a mouse with browser back/forward buttons, take care not to click them,  and it is recommended you disable that mouse function during the test.  If the text of the question exceeds the width of your screen, use the scrol

Project Two

In this project, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following competency:

  • Apply statistical techniques to address research problems
  • Perform hypothesis testing to address an authentic problem

Overview

In this project, you will apply inference methods for means to test your hypotheses about the housing sales market for a region of the United States. You will use appropriate sampling and statistical methods.

Scenario

You have been hired by your regional real estate company to determine if your region’s housing prices and housing square footage are significantly different from those of the national market. The regional sales director has three questions that they want to see addressed in the report:

  1. Are housing prices in your regional market higher than the national market average?
  2. Is the square footage for homes in your region different than the average square footage for homes in the national market?
  3. For your region, what is the range of values for the 95% confidence interval of square footage for homes in your market?

You are given a real estate data set that has houses listed for every county in the United States. In addition, you have been given national statistics and graphs that show the national averages for housing prices and square footage. Your job is to analyze the data, complete the statistical analyses, and provide a report to the regional sales director. You will do so by completing the Project Two Template located in the What to Submit area below.
