Discussion week 1: Research Design for One-Way ANOVA

Whether in a scholarly or practitioner setting, good research and data analysis should have the benefit of peer feedback. For this Discussion, you will perform an article critique on ANOVA testing. Be sure and remember that the goal is to obtain constructive feedback to improve the research and its interpretation, so please view this as an opportunity to learn from one another.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review the Learning Resources and the media programs related to ANOVA testing.
  • Search for and select a quantitative article specific to your discipline and related to ANOVA testing. Help with this task may be found in the Course guide and assignment help linked in this week’s Learning Resources. Also, you can use as guide the Research Design Alignment Table located in this week’s Learning Resources.

Assignment :

Write a 3- to 5-paragraphs critique of the article. In your critique, include responses to the following:

  1. Which is the research design used by the authors?
  2. Why did the authors use ANOVA test?
  3. Do you think it’s the most appropriate choice? Why or why not?
  4. Did the authors display the data?
  5. Do the results stand alone? Why or why not?
  6. Did the authors report effect size? If yes, is this meaningful?

Be sure to support your Main Post and Response Post with reference to the week’s Learning Resources and other scholarly evidence in APA Style.

Cultural Competency and the Practice of Public Administration

Questions

  1. In assessing cultural competency in a public agency, what specific parts of an agency need to be examined and why?
  2. Identify and present an example of a practice used by a government agency that reflects an example of a culturally competent organization.

Course Description and Purpose

This course explores the pressing contemporary issue of the relationship between government and minorities. Examines the clash between established institutional values and minority group values, and surveys remedial programs aimed at dealing with the problem. Comparative case studies will be used to analyze public agencies’ internal relations with minorities (recruiting, selection, etc.), as well as their different responses to the minority groups they serve.

Course Objectives

Students will be able to do the following:

  • assess the current status of government and minority group relations;
  • assess the current status of local government initiatives targeting minority group empowerment;
  • identify and review domestic and international policy initiatives targeting minority groups;
  • explore, analyze, and critique current research that examines government and minority group relations;
  • explore the current implementation and status of government diversity initiatives;
  • identify and discuss major authors and theoretical approaches relevant to government and minority group relations;
  • have read the assigned reading material to offer an informed critique and to evaluate the information, ideas, and philosophies that are presented; and
  • develop and practice critical thinking, subject content knowledge, writing skills, and communication skills in the area of government and minority group relations.

OD Change Intervention

Students will prepare individual proposals for an organizational development (OD) change intervention on an area of interest (e.g., improving employee motivation after a merger or layoff, training initiative, management coaching, new process or system implementation).  This project is designed to give you the opportunity to apply the concepts and issues discussed throughout the course in the context of a real-world organizational change, and using a style and “language” that will be relevant and engaging to a practitioner audience.  Topic selection must be approved by the professor in advance and is on a first-come, first-served basis to avoid overlap.

Each student will prepare this proposal as a PowerPoint presentation, in the role of a consultant presenting to an audience of organizational stakeholders/decision makers.

The presentations should include:

1.              Introduction and presentation agenda

2.              Overview of the issue/need

3.              Proposed assessment – why do you believe the organization needs to address this?

4.              Recommendations and options for change intervention to key stakeholders

5.              Implementation and communication plan to organization

6.              Evaluation of success and follow-up options

7.              Concluding remarks, Q&A

Because you will not actually be presenting these proposals, you will submit your slide presentation in “Notes Master” which will incorporate your slides with corresponding speaking notes so I can clearly understand your approach and “pitch”.  If you have the capability, you may embed audio clips in each slide instead of written speaking notes.

Articulating a Relational Database Design

While an artist would rarely approach her audience and ask what they hope to see in her next creation, this is exactly what a database designer must do. To ensure that a database meets the needs of the organization and its users, designers communicate with users and other stakeholders to capture the vision of what is needed. This means that important stakeholders—nurses in particular—can make a significant impact on database design when they articulate to designers what is needed regarding the storage, search, and retrieval of healthcare data. Productive dialogue will help lead to the development of appropriate data types, relational tables, and other design elements. Such dialogue relies on the ability to effectively articulate database design. In this Discussion, you practice refining a database design by examining key design attributes and employing feedback from peers.

To prepare:
  • Review the Learning Resources.
  • Review your post from the Week 3 Discussion and the scenario on which it is based.
  • Identify any design issues that may be present in your database, including those related to one-to-many relationships or data types.
  • Consider ways in which you could connect the tables that you proposed in the Discussion in Week 3.
  • Review the article by Lo, et al. (2018) and consider the implications of connecting well-designed relational databases to improve outcomes through knowledge sharing.

Post an explanation of how you would adjust your design described in the previous discussion to address specific design issues such as one-to-many relationships and identification of data types. Be specific and provide examples. Explain how you would reduce the risk for poor data integrity and eliminate duplicate data. Support your plan with citations from the Learning Resources.

Case Study 1

Answer Questions, well written a pharagraph each.

Case Application 2

The Power of Presence

How do you successfully manage a growing international company? CEO Christian Chabot of Seattle-based Tableau now believes being there physically is an important piece in the often complex puzzle of international management.108 International growth is nothing new for Tableau, which was founded in 2004. As a leading provider of analytics and business intelligence software solutions, the company has more than 35,000 clients in over a dozen countries.

Tableau provides software tools and interactive dashboards that allow users to generate useful business insights through the analysis and visualization of data. The company is on the cutting edge of data-imaging solutions for end-users, creating products such as Elastic, which allows users to create graphics from spreadsheets. Despite tough competition in the market for business intelligence from software giants such as Microsoft, Tableau has continued to maintain its share of the marketplace, and the company’s value continues to grow with a 64 percent increase in revenue over last year. Much of the company’s growth is attributed to the company’s expansion into international markets, with an 86 percent increase in revenue last year from international markets, which now account for a quarter of the company’s total revenues.

With plans to hire about 1,000 more employees in the next year, the company’s projected continued success is evident. While more than half of their current 2,800 employees work in the company’s Seattle headquarters, Tableau has 14 locations around the world in places such as Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney, and London. About 400 of the new employees will be hired outside of the Seattle headquarters, and Tableau’s expansion will include opening new international offices.



International growth creates many challenges for companies, particularly as they open and staff branch locations in different countries. Cultural differences, time differences, and simply the geographic distance can make it difficult to sustain the same management practices at home and abroad. How has Chabot managed the quick growth of this international company? One strategy was to spend almost a year abroad working in the company’s London office. His focused time at that location helped grow regional sales, but also provided the CEO with valuable insights to support further international expansion.

Chabot reported that the time he spent in London highlighted the importance of managing culture and people. Prior to the trip he did not have a true understanding of the challenges of international employees working for a U.S.-based company. He found that many working in international branch offices did not feel like they were taken seriously by those at the home office. Geographically remote workers can feel disconnected from a global company, particularly when they report to management they have never met in person at headquarters.

Chabot’s time working in London was valuable for employees in all locations of the company, as his actions sent the message that he feels employees outside of headquarters are important. While he spent time only in London, the fact that he spent a year away from the home office emphasized his belief that locations beyond Seattle are important for the company’s success. Chabot’s experience is having such a profound impact on the company’s success, Tableau is now encouraging other executives to spend time at international offices.

Discussion Questions

4-18. Tableau staffs its international offices primarily with host country nationals. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this staffing strategy?

4-19. Do you agree with Chabot that the company will benefit if more executives spend time in international offices? Why or why not?

4-20. As Tableau executives get ready to spend time in the company’s international offices, how can they prepare for the cultural differences they will encounter?

4-21. What are some of the challenges Tableau will face as it hires 1,000 new employees in one year?

“External and Internal Environments”

External and Internal Environment (Corporation is Tesla)

Overview
In this assignment, you are to use the same corporation you selected and focused on for the Strategic Management and Strategic Competitiveness assignment.
Using the corporation you chose from the Week 3 assignment, Strategic Management and Strategic Competitiveness, examine the industry in which the entity operates. Use any or all of the following resources to conduct research on the company:

  • Company website.
  • Public filings from the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Filings & Forms page.
  • Strayer University’s online databases.
  • The Lexis Advance database.
  • Other miscellaneous sources. Note: the company’s annual report will often provide insights that other resources may not include.
  • Use the External and Internal Environments Template [DOC] to ensure that your assignment meets the requirements.
    Requirements
Write a 4–6 page paper in which you do the following:
  • Choose the two segments of the general environment that would rank highest in their influence on the corporation you chose.
    • Assess how these segments affect the corporation you chose and the industry in which it operates.
  • Considering the five forces of competition, choose the two that you estimate are the most significant for the corporation you chose.
    • Evaluate how well the company has addressed these two forces in the recent past.
  • With the same two forces in mind, predict what the company might do to improve its ability to address these forces in the near future.
  • Assess the external threats affecting this corporation and the opportunities available to the corporation.
    • Give your opinions on how the corporation should deal with the most serious threat and the greatest opportunity. Justify your answer.
  • Give your opinion on the corporation’s greatest strengths and most significant weaknesses.
    • Choose the strategy or tactic the corporation should select to take maximum advantage of its strengths, and the strategy or tactic the corporation should select to fix its most significant weakness. Justify your choices.
  • Determine the company’s resources, capabilities, and core competencies.
  •  Note: Wikipedia and similar websites do not qualify as academic resources.
The specific course learning outcome associated with this assignment is as follows:
  • Analyze the effects of the general environment, competition, threats, opportunities, strengths, and weaknesses relative to a corporation.
  • 1.

Week 6 External and Internal  Environments Assignment

Write your introduction here. Include one paragraph (not more than 6 lines of text) that explains what your paper will discuss. Much of your introduction may be taken from the assignment instructions (in your own words).

2.

General Environment

In this section you will choose the two segments of the general environment that would rank highest in their influence on the public corporation you chose for assignment 1.

3.

Segment 1

This subsection is where you assess the first of the two segments of the general environment you think ranks highest in its influence on the public corporation you chose for the.

Change the subheading for this section, which currently says “Segment 1” to the name of the selected segment. Assess how this segment affects the corporation and the industry in which it operates. Remember that to assess a concept, you will weigh all aspects to judge the importance or relevance of that concept. Do not simply define the segment.

4.

Segment 2

This subsection is where you assess the second of the two segments of the general environment you selected. Change the subheading for this section, which currently says “Segment 2” to the name of the selected segment of the general environment that would rank highest in its influence on the public corporation

5.

Five Forces of Competition

In this section you will consider the five forces of competition and choose the two that you estimate are the most significant for the corporation you chose in assignment  You will then, evaluate how well the company has addressed each of these two forces in the recent past. There are two subsections below, each has a heading. The heading “Force 1” should be changed to the first of the two forces of competition you select. The heading “Force 2” should be changed to the second of the two forces of competition you select. Replace this paragraph with a very brief introduction that includes the identification of the two forces of competition you selected.

Force 1

This subsection is where you evaluate the first of two forces of competition that you estimate to be the most significant to the corporation you chose. Change the subheading for this section, which currently says “Force 1” to the name of your selected force. Provide a thorough assessment of why you think the selected force is significant to your corporation.   Evaluate how well the company addressed the selected force in the recent past. This will require some research. Remember that to evaluate a concept, you will break down all components to determine or analyze facts, value, or views.

Force 2

Choose another one of the five forces of competition that you estimate to be the most significant for the corporation you chose. This should not be the same force assessed in the “Force 1” section above. Change the subheading for this section, which currently says “Force 2” to the name of the selected force. This subsection is where you evaluate the second of the two forces of competition that you selected.

6.

Future Improvements

With the same two forces assessed and evaluated in the previous two sub-sections above, predict what the company might do to improve its ability to address the forces in the near future.

7.

Greatest External Threat

Identify what you consider to be the greatest external threat to the corporation you selected. The threat should be specific to your corporation. Justify why you consider the threat to be the greatest.

8.

Greatest Opportunity

Identify what you consider to be the greatest opportunity to the corporation you selected. The opportunity should be specific to your corporation. Justify why you consider the opportunity to be the greatest. Support your justification with an assessment of the impact the opportunity could have on the corporation.

9.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Give your opinion on the corporation’s greatest strengths and most significant weaknesses.

10.

Strategy or Tactic

Choose the strategies or tactics the corporation should select to take maximum advantage of the strengths you identified in the section above, and the strategies or tactics the corporation should select to fix the most significant weaknesses you identified.

11.

Resources, Capabilities, and Core Competencies

Determine the company’s resources, capabilities, and core competencies. Your determination should include an explanation of the relevance of each resource, capability, and core competency.

Feedback Check-In: Charting a Path for Growth

Prepare

Prior to beginning work on this discussion forum, read Chapter 5 in your course textbook, College Writing Handbook, and the article Find the Coaching in Criticism: The Right Ways to Receive Feedback.

In a course like this, some of the feedback you receive takes the form of a number or letter grade, but that’s only a small part of the picture. You can start by reviewing the number grades you have received on the different activities and assignments, but then dig deeper into the detailed commentary aligned to each and every rubric category as well as any direct comments from your instructor in the gradebook.

Additionally, some of the most valuable feedback you receive will be narrative in nature, written as sentences and paragraphs in the form of emails or discussion forum comments from your instructor, as well as any replies you have received from peers in the discussion forum.

Take time to review the feedback you have received throughout this course.

Reflect

Really listening to what feedback tells you can be difficult. That’s partly because it is easy to feel criticized. As Heen and Stone (2014) state, “even a seemingly benign suggestion can leave you feeling angry, anxious, badly treated, or profoundly threatened” (p. 109). So it is up to you to have the right perspective on the feedback you receive.

Additionally, it is easy to think of feedback in simple terms, right or wrong, good or bad. But feedback can take many forms, and you need to intentionally engage with all of them.

In this forum, you will reflect on the feedback you have received throughout the course, using it to help assess your strengths and challenges. While feedback can be valuable for the actionable strategies communicated, it can also provide an important check-in when you combine that with honest reflection. How open are you to receiving and acting upon feedback? Are there specific areas or skills that you are particularly interested in receiving feedback on?

In 250 to 300 words, address the following points:

  • Describe your strategy for listening to, and really understanding, the feedback you receive.
    • Perhaps this involves looking more closely at the variety of feedback you already receive or proactively reaching out for feedback from different sources.
  • Explain any steps you may take to get better at receiving feedback.
    • Think about the six steps mentioned in the article, and how you can apply these insights.
  • Discuss the different types of feedback you have received in this course.
    • You might identify particular assignments or activities you have gotten feedback on, or the various locations you have pulled feedback from. Has it been helpful? Has it aligned with your own vision of your skills and abilities?
  • Consider at least two specific comments you have received as feedback.
    • What are the underlying concerns of the suggested edits? Look beyond the specific instance and attempt to generalize. For example, a comma mistake might indicate a need to pay attention to details.

Please note, you are not required to share the individual feedback you have received in this course, only your reactions to it, as well as your strategies for addressing it.

CCIS Art Appreciation_Art Project (TWICE)

Pretend you are a curator for a museum. Your job to set up an exhibit of five artworks that speak to you, created by five different artists and share it with the class.

Reflect on all the art we’ve learned about this session. Select five of your favorite works of art from the session to include in your exhibition. You can also organize your collection by theme if preferred. Here are a few examples.

  • Same style
  • Same time period
  • Same or similar subject matter
  • Same unusual medium or unique artistic technique
  • Pieces that speak to you for some reason: aesthetic, political or social statement.

Requirements:

1. A curatorial statement. This is a brief introduction to your exhibit telling viewers what your exhibit is about. You must answer the following questions:

  • Why did you select these particular five pieces?
  • What connections did you make between these pieces? How do you hope viewers will make these connections?
  • What you want people to know about the pieces you chose and why you chose them.

2. An image of each of your five artworks. For each of the pieces, include the title, the name of the artist, media, dimensions, and the year it was created. These images must be cited using APA or Chicago Manual of Style format.

3. For each of your artworks, please write a short paragraph (3-4 sentences) that tells the viewer what the piece means to you and why you selected it. You can also include something a viewer wouldn’t know about the work of art from looking quickly.

Global Health

Please choose ONE of the questions below and write a post that thoroughly addresses the question in 2-3 paragraphs, using at least one scholarly reference.

Questions:

  1. One possible estimate is that the world’s population will be over 10 billion people by the year 2100. How might the lives of children born today be different if this is true? What advancements do you think would have to be made in education, medicine, public health and/or the food and water supply in order to support a global community of this size? (Please do not respond saying we will just need more. Think about how this can be accomplished).
  2. Communicable diseases are very accomplished at crossing the borders of countries. Discuss the challenges of global communicable disease control and summarize a recent outbreak of disease that occurred in at least two countries. What do you believe were risk factors for this outbreak? What could have been done differently to prevent the outbreak?
  3. Health disparities can be seen when comparing the health outcomes of different countries. Give an example of two countries– where one country has a health disparity in comparison to the other. Identify the disparity and summarize it’s impact AND an existing or potential global health program that might be successful in eliminating the health disparity.

Your post should be 2-3 paragraphs long, following the requirements outlined in the discussion rubric under course materials.

Perform a financial analysis on your firm

Include in your analysis a trend analysis using at least three years of data from the balance sheet and income statement. Using the provided data, do a trend/historical and benchmark/competitive ratio analysis for each of the major ratio categories, commenting on specific ratios and the trend analysis.

When reviewing your firm’s statement of cash flows ,with a brief discussion of their major sources and uses of funds . In this section pls include at least 4 graphs and 4 tables. Pls present number in tables and then discuss those numbers .

The graphs should present multiple items (e.g include ratios)

. Include your evaluation and interpretation of items that have large deviations and if warranted those with stable trends – what does it mean? Also, review your firm’s statement of cash flows, with a brief discussion of their major sources and uses of funds. In this section, include at least three graphs of key ratios. I prefer that numbers be presented in table form, rather than embedded in paragraphs

Include in your analysis trend analysis using 3 years of data from balance sheet ,income statement , ratios and statement of cash flows .Do a brief market value to book value analysis .For the ratios ,do both a trend/historical and benchmark /competitive ratio analysis
