MSW 5001 Week 6 – Assignment: Examine Research for your Signature Assignment

This week your task is to prepare an annotated outline for your Signature Assignment. Use the following criteria to organize your outline, which will become the basis of your Signature Assignment.

  • The Signature Assignment for this course is to identify a current social problem with which a social worker may be involved. As part of your presentation of the problem, be sure to describe how elements of human rights and social justice intersect with this social problem.
  • Select a population that would require social work services related to this problem.
  • Select a developmental phase of life (i.e., infancy and early childhood, middle childhood, adolescence, adulthood, or late adulthood), and then explain the implications of this problem on an individual’s life course trajectory.
  • Examine how you as a social worker would advocate for the affected population regarding this problem.

Support your assessment of human behavior in social environments by drawing upon at least five scholarly works in the discipline of social work.

Length: 2-3 pages, not including title and reference pages

Your assignment should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. Be sure to adhere to Northcentral University’s Academic Integrity Policy.

Rhiannon RINGS

Rhiannon started a new business last year making and selling rings. She buys stones which have been cleaned and coated for $3 apiece (on average). Other materials cost about $2 per ring. Rhiannon sells her rings online for $15 each and $20 each in person. She realizes that her customers could shop online to save money, https://smartwriterblog.com/education-homework-help/define-apical-impulse-and-describe-its-normal-location-size-and-duration/  but they would still need to pay for shipping (flat rate of $10 per order which is about $2 higher than her typical shipping cost). She doesn’t market all her creations online, keeping the best pieces as “treats” for regular customers. In her first year, Rhiannon sold 1,100 rings of which 60% were in person- she estimates that online shoppers buy three rings per order on average, while in-person shoppers buy two per visit. She is looking for feedback on this sales strategy. Also, Rhiannon has heard of cost-volume-profit analysis and she is wondering how things look for her currently (and maybe in the future) from a break-even and margin of safety standpoint. Rhiannon is debating whether to continue working out of a makeshift office/store in her basement as opposed to a store in the city. Her home expenses total $1,000 a month and she estimates her basement takes 40% of the home’s available space. A store would cost $2,000 per month, but grow sales by 75% (80% of the sales would now be in person). If she decides to go in this direction, https://blog.keenessays.com/2021/06/30/for-module-5-you-have-been-reading-about-environmental-and-animal-ethics/ Rhiannon plans to hire a part-time helper who would produce 1,000 rings per year. Rhiannon estimates that this worker would work 250 hours a year at a rate of $16 per hour. Rhiannon is wondering about the cost[1]benefit analysis of going in this direction. She is also wondering how she might evaluate the helper’s performance once she has actual sales and expense numbers. Also, she wants some insight on the best ways to https://perfectwriterblog.com/education-homework-help/develop-well-defined-paragraphs-that-outline-your-business-model/ discuss performance with employees. Rhiannon is wondering if she should also pay the helper a sales commission of $1 per ring sold. This would allow Rhiannon to focus more on production. In addition to producing 1,500 rings a year by herself, Rhiannon is wondering if she can gather and prepare stones for cheaper. Assuming 100 stones per month, she estimates the added fuel expense for this approach would total $150 per month (Rhiannon isn’t sure if other vehicle costs like insurance should be included). https://blog.keenessays.com/2021/06/30/compare-and-contrast-the-growth-and-developmental-patterns-of-two-toddlers-of-different-ages-using-gordons-functional-health-patterns/ Materials to prepare the stones for mounting would total $100 a month. Rhiannon is wondering if she should consider other factors like time spent- she expects to spend 6 hours a month gathering, cleaning, and coating stones. She is wondering about potential pros and cons of producing her own stones, outside of projected cash flows. Rhiannon has been offered the chance to buy a 50% share in the stone preparing business she buys from for $300,000. Rhiannon has inquired about borrowing the sum from the bank and has been quoted a 6% annual rate. She expects the business to maintain its $100,000 annual profit level for the next ten years. Rhiannon also wants to repay the loan within ten years, so she feels like this is an appropriate investment evaluation horizon. She is wondering what some appropriate methods of evaluating this investment opportunity might be. In addition to learning about how you would evaluate the investment and why, she wants to know about other relevant factors which should be considered. https://perfectwriterblog.com/education-homework-help/compare-and-contrast-the-growth-and-developmental-patterns-of-two-toddlers-of-different-ages-using-gordons-functional-health-patterns/ Analyze Rhiannon’s business and advise her on the matters raised in the case. Make sure your recommendations are well supported by quantitative and qualitative analysis which ties to the case

The debate topics should be centered on the content for this week but will include current issues that are happening in politics and government. It is essential to follow the debate guidelines set up in Week 1 and participate fully in the debate process. Remember debating is not about who is right or wrong, but who can express their ideas in a professional manner using current evidence and a thorough understanding of the issue.

Some potential topics for this week include:

  • Recent judicial appointments—state or local
  • Rulings of the U.S. Constitution
  • Committee rulings or proceedings that affect your local area or issue you are working on for your final project
  • Issues pertaining to judicial key figures
  • The effect of the bicameral government process on recent laws
  • Military Tribunals and Guantanamo
  • USA Patriot Act and The United States Constitution

Your response should be 1 to 2 pages long. In your response, discuss the complexity of the issue and its pros and cons. Support your response with examples, logical reasoning, and research and articulate your position clearly. Develop a conclusion based on current facts and statistics. Your response should clarify your understanding of the topic and should be your own—original and free from plagiarism. Use facts and statistics published within the past five years.

Stroke (Cerebrovascular accident)

Stroke is a term used to describe the cessation of blood supply to an area of the brain due to ruptured blood vessels or thrombus in the blood vessels. This results in loss of brain function or diminished brain function in that area. It can either be a hemorrhagic stroke or an ischemic stroke. With a hemorrhagic stroke, the blood vessels rupture and disrupt the blood supply to the area of the brain affected. However, with ischemic stroke, there is a thrombus in the blood vessels that cuts the blood supply to areas of the brain affected leading to the death of brain cells (Grand Canyon University, 2018). The characteristics findings for stroke include facial drooping, slurred speech, weakness in one arm and/ or leg. The factors contributing to stroke include:

  1. Uncontrolled high blood pressure: this increases the pressure in the blood vessels, especially the blood vessels in the brain, and this could lead to rupture of the blood vessels, resulting in a stroke.
  2. High cholesterol: the high cholesterol in the blood vessels forms plaques that occlude the blood vessels in the brain causing ischemia and stroke.
  3. Diabetes: Diabetes increases the level of glucose in the bloodstream and this forms plaques in the blood vessels leading to occlusion and stroke.
  4. Smoking: smoking tends to form plaques in the blood which can result in a stroke.
  5. Atrial fibrillation: this can result in a buildup of blood clots in the blood vessels thus causing a stroke.

A stroke usually impacts the lives of patients and family, as they are unable to perform activities of daily living and other family responsibilities. Nurses have a role to play in helping patients and their family members by providing resources that include community resources, spiritual, and psychological resources to enable the patient and family to cope during the process. The nurse can also encourage patients and their family members to participate in rehabilitation sessions that may include speech therapy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy to improve patient’s compliance with the treatment plan. It is also important that the nurse encourage the patient to monitor predisposing factors to stroke. The nurse should also provide necessary education that will provide adequate knowledge to the patients. The nurse should:

Educate the patient on eating a heart-healthy diet to manage high blood pressure.

Educate the patient on eating a diet low in cholesterol to manage hyperlipidemia.

Educate on the importance of smoking cessation.

Educate on the importance of regular exercise

Educate on the importance of maintaining a healthy weight.

Common characteristic findings for a stroke include numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body, confusion, trouble speaking, or difficulty understanding speech, trouble seeing in one or both eyes, trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance, or lack of coordination, and severe headache with no known cause. The long-lasting effects of a stroke depends on rapid recognition and quick interventions. Quick intervention is needed with a stroke, preferably within 3 hours of the first symptoms. Acute care of a stroke includes stabilization and aggressive treatment if indicated. Once patient is stabilized then the patient will begin supportive services such as physical, occupational, and speech therapies to help with restoration of function to any areas of deficit. (Falkner & Green, 2018). When a patient has a stroke, it does not just affect the patient, it affects the whole family. A stroke is something that can leave a person severely disabled physically and cognitively depending on the severity. The patient may no longer be able to take care of themselves and may no longer be able to dependently feed, dress, or perform their activities of daily living alone, and may no longer be able to provide for their family. Stroke patients often develop depression and recovery from stroke requires physical, social, and emotional aspects of life. The nurse’s role in supporting patient’s psychological and emotional needs is to offer support by listening, using touch, being present, using silence when appropriate, offering encouragement and observing the patient for signs of distress. (Falkner & Green, 2018). An example of this is when a patient is unable to communicate then the nurse should do his/her best to try to comfort the patient, and try to address all of the patient’s possible needs and to just be there for him/her.

transformation

Read the following: Transformational Leadership.pdf download

Bernard M. Bass, a leadership researcher offers in this case that 4 “I” s are paramount

  1. Individualized consideration
  2. Intellectual stimulation
  3. Inspirational motivation
  4. Idealized influence.

For each of these 4 considerations, describe how you apply these considerations against your own style of leadership.  Align your comparison and considerations with DuBrin’s section on transformational leadership and what Bass implied in his research. Be specific for each of the “Is” by using a paragraph for each “I” for readability

For each of these case studies support each response with theories and/or concepts found in the DuBrin coursebook or from another leadership researcher.

Check to ensure that you have:

  • Analyzed the questions using the facts of the case and the concepts introduced by DuBrin and/or additional readings and videos.
  • A clear explanation of your reasoning thorough enough to answer the theories and/or concepts being presented in the chapters being studied.
  • Make certain you properly label the case and number your analysis of each question–do not respond to all questions as one analysis.
  • Please number each of your analysis responses. Remember to apply DuBrin to support your analysis.
  • Submit this assignment in a Word document.

Grades reflect my judgment about:

  • the quality of analysis,
  • the application of theory to facts,

Evaluation of Technical Quality

Evaluation of Technical Quality

In Unit 2, you selected one standardized test that has relevancy to your academic and professional goals to be the focus of your course project. Your Unit 2 assignment focused on the first four elements of the Code for selecting a test. For this assignment, you will complete a deeper analysis of the technical quality of your selected test by focusing on the fifth element of the Code, which states that the test user will “evaluate evidence of the technical quality of the test provided by the test developer and any independent reviews.” To complete this assignment, you will draw upon the knowledge you gained in Units 3 and 4 about psychometrics in general and reliability and validity in particular.

For this assignment, use the test you selected for your assignment in Unit 2. Locate and summarize a minimum of four articles related to the technical qualities of the selected test. You are encouraged to use the PSY7610 Library Research Guide, linked in the resources, to assist your search.

For each article:

  • List the APA reference for each journal article (a minimum of four).
  • Identify if the article addresses reliability or validity.
  • Discuss if the article addresses sources of error variance, reliability estimates, evidence of validity, or bias and fairness.
  • Identify the specific type of reliability or validity (for example, test-retest reliability, predictive validity, et cetera).
  • Identify the overall results of the research, including any psychometric or statistical outcome.

Guidelines for Selecting the Literature

Use the most current sources you can find. Do not use sources older than 8 years. (You may cite older sources if they are classics, if you want to show the chronology of something, or if you have another good reason. If you choose to use older sources, you will need to explain why.) Use current, peer-reviewed journal articles. Do not use sources without an author or a publication date. Do not use quotes; use only your own words. Please see the Academic Integrity and Plagiarism link in the resources for concerns with high content matching in papers. Evaluate whether the results support the use of your test as appropriate for your field and populations to be served.

Note: The articles you need to complete this assignment should be available inside the library collection. In future courses, you may use the Capella library’s Interlibrary Loan service to obtain articles outside of the collection, but you should not have to use the service for this course. In the event that you cannot find articles covering a newer test edition, please refer to the List of Tests by Type document, linked in the resources. Note which tests have been designated as acceptable for searching prior test editions.

Instructions for the content of the paper are in the template located in the Resources. Write your assignment using the u05a1 Assignment Template [DOCX].

Additional Requirements

Your paper should meet the following requirements:

  • References: A minimum of four journal articles (textbooks, web pages, literature reviews, and the MMY book reviews do not count for these references).
  • Length of paper: Evaluation must be at least five pages in length for content (not including title page, abstract, or references).

One product i thought of recently is coffee I do not see much marketing on coffee anymore i see alot of talk about Kurig but not about coffee itself. I feel like coffee whether it be folders or Dunkin coffee they could benefit from multi channel marketing. When i was younger i remember seeing Folgers commercial but i do not see them any more. It makes me wonder why? is the market to easy and is there no need to advertise much?

Regards,

Cody

Hello,

Now that you mentioned it, I have not seen any advertising for coffee. Before, I think there was a few commercials that were about coffee but not anymore. When I am on Youtube, I see advertisements about Dunkin Donuts ice coffee or starbucks but that is not the same as all the brands that are out for just regular coffee. Do you think that the audience was just not responding right to the advertisements so the brands decided to stop?

Andrea

Your reference to Coca Cola is interesting.   They have a wide variety of products such as regular coca cola, coke zero, diet coke and others that are designed to appeal to different target audiences.   How can Coca Cola use IMC given this variety of products?

Hello Professor and Class

To be honest the one commercial that I find extremely irritating is the Capital One credit card commercial. This commercial annoys because it shows all types of disaster and in the end, it asks the question, what’s in your pocket. Because of my dislike for the commercial, it wouldn’t make me remember it at all, in fact, I had to look up the slogan just to find which company used the slogan. However, the one commercial that I have found memorable happens to be the one with the huge hamsters driving the Kia. For me, the line between entertainment and marketing is drawn when the commercial becomes irritating instead of amusing.

Professor and Class,

I feel that the entertainment needs to end once you have grabbed the audiences attention. Once you have their attention you get into exactly what the advertisment is about. I saw a few of the other posts on this thread and one commercial that drives me crazy are the Progressive insurance once with flow. At what point is it about insurance and not about flow? I think entertainment can go overboard and take awy from the actual marketing.

This assignment provides an opportunity to apply psychological theory in the exploration of a book or film. Choose a film or book of special interest. The book or film should have content that can be meaningfully explored through application of psychological theory and research. You may want to look at some of the later sections in the course that deal with emotion, motivation, personality, the development of the individual over the life span, health and stress, and psychological disorders and treatment, so that you have a more complete idea of different concepts that might apply.

This paragraph provides you with some example topics and guidelines to help you consider how to approach this task. First, you could pick a movie or book in which the main character suffers from a psychological disorder or is merely trying to cope with the everyday stress of life. In doing so, you could discuss defense mechanisms or refer to developmental stages in the person’s life that might have been important, or consider the effects of abuse, alcoholism and addiction, etc. Or you could approach the subject matter from different perspectives—psychoanalytical, biological, behavioral, cognitive, and/or sociocultural. Additionally, you could discuss the role emotion, memory, or motivation plays in the character’s development, or the importance of the environment, and influences such as racism and sexism. A sample paper is provided as well to guide you in formatting, organizing, and writing your paper.

This is a research-based paper, and the film or book provides only the backdrop for research on a psychological topic. You should use at least two psychological, peer-reviewed references (textbook can be used but does not count towards the peer-reviewed references required). The paper should be 1,200 to 1,500 words, about 5 double-spaced pages. The final paper portion of the assignment is worth 65 points and will be graded according to the attached rubric. This assignment will be reviewed by Turnitin and generate a similarity report upon submission to LEO. A new similarity report will be generated every time you upload the assignment until the due date. Please use this similarity report to improve your paper as plagiarism will NOT be tolerated. Please see my instructions on using Turnitin for additional information.
