Social Media in Population Health
Identify the selected practice problem.
Dr. Bartelt and classmates, my selected practice problem is adults who are living with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). The number of people in the United States who are currently living with COPD is around 15.5 million and there are many more who are undiagnosed due to lack of healthcare resources and testing (Pleasants et al., 2016). The number of people with COPD in the United States will continue to grow for the foreseeable future and has the potential to overwhelm the healthcare system if not curtailed (Bemker & Ralyea, 2018). The DNP leader in the healthcare setting is well suited to manage care for these individuals with chronic lung disease and to influence their care that leads to overall improvements in health as well as an increased quality of life and reduced long-term complications (Bemker & Ralyea, 2018).
Describe an evidence-based intervention to address the practice problem.
The most effective management strategy for any type of chronic illness is early diagnosis and targeted efforts to improve long-term health (Ambrosino & Bertella, 2018). Early diagnosis of COPD before the onset of symptoms allows the individual to receive care and make lifestyle changes that can prevent rapid progression of the disease that leads to poor prognosis and an early death (Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease, 2020). Conducting spirometry testing in high-risk individuals can identify COPD before the onset of symptoms allowing for an early diagnosis and preventing many significant health complications (Ambrosino & Bertella, 2018).
Create an informational population health “tweet” as part of a social marketing intervention. This “tweet” should be no more than 280 characters to promote awareness of the health problem and intervention. Your “tweet” should be current, captivating, and applicable for the population at risk.
“Did you know that you can have COPD even if you do not have symptoms? Free screenings that are quick and easy can identify COPD early. Visit your local health center for a discussion with a healthcare provider and learn if you are at risk. It could literally save your life.”
Identify one measurable outcome to the “tweet”.
One measurable outcome to this tweet is to quantify the number of people who attend the free screening events and to reference the total number of people who attend in conjunction with the results from the spirometry testing. This measure can give you satisfaction that more people are being screened, which will lead to more people being diagnosed early and an improvement in long-term health and wellness (Pleasants et al., 2016). Most people who are undiagnosed with COPD have significant socioeconomic disparities and an overall lack of healthcare resources. Providing targeted free screening efforts such as this one in areas considered as having high-risk populations is a way of reducing healthcare disparities and can produce excellent results.

Health Paper Topic: Cardiac Ischemia
Your paper should be written in the third person taking the individual out of the writing and avoiding pronouns such as I, we, my, our (first person) and you, yours, your, us, we (second person). You should deal with facts and not opinions, thus providing citations within your paper and on your reference page. Focus on the subject itself and not on your feelings about the subject. The use of the third person retains a formal tone in your writing. The use of the first and second person can make a document seem more casual. The paper should be complete and the main body should be 1000-1500 words in length (excluding cover page, abstract, references, etc.). Utilize APA Style format and references. See the Owl at Purdue site for help with APA formatting principles.
Be sure to use transition words between each paragraph. Each paragraph should be at least five sentences in length. In most cases, the paragraphs will be longer. Try to use at least two sources in each paragraph.

Informational Interview
InstructionsPart 1 (recommend completing during Week 5)
In Part 1 of this activity, you will complete the following tasks:
- Watch “How to Do an Informational Interview.”
- Select your prospective interview candidate. See below for guidance on identifying a suitable interviewee.
- Gather professional/biographical details about your prospective interview subject.
- Request an interview by email, by phone, or in person. If you’re going to send your request by email, review these email templates for suggested wording. Consider CC’ing me on the request.
To identify a suitable interview subject, find professionals in your career you would like to explore. Think about tapping these sources:
- Check with your personal and professional networks and professors to connect you with professionals in your field of interest.
- Check within Community Connect within CareerQuest or the UMUC/UMGC Alumni LinkedIn group for access to potential alumni and mentors.
- Consider members within student or professional organizations you have joined or would like to join.
There are no restrictions on your interviewee’s location. CareerQuest has a video chat feature you can use if you connect with your subject through that platform.
After you explore your interviewee options, request the interview. Reach out in a timely manner, as many professionals have demanding schedules and may not be available right away. It is also wise to consider having more than one potential interview candidate, in case your first choice doesn’t pan out.
As you prepare for your interview, bear in mind these tips:
- Maintain a professional demeanor, both in writing and orally.
- Draft a list of questions in advance.
- Schedule the interview for no longer than 20 minutes.
Part 2 (recommend completing during Week 6)
Prepare for your interview well in advance. In Part 2 of this activity, you will prepare for and conduct your informational interview by completing the following tasks:
- Determine the logistics of your interview. Will you meet in person? Via video chat or web conference (Zoom, Google Hangouts, FaceTime, Skype, etc.)? An interview in real time is preferable, but if you and your subject are unable to arrange that, you can use email.
- Draft your interview questions. See below for guidance.
- Conduct the interview.
Here are some questions you might consider:
- What sparked your interest in this career field?
- What does a typical day entail in your line of work?
- What do you like most about your career field?
- What are some challenges you face in this career choice?
- How do you handle your work-life balance?
- What suggestions do you have for someone who is interested in this field?
- Who else do you recommend I talk to?
Part 3 (due by the end of Week 7)
After your interview, summarize your notes in two or three paragraphs. Include the name of the interviewee, a short biography describing his or her professional background and experiences, and a brief synopsis of your interview details/highlights. Be sure to include the questions you asked during the interview. You may find this template helpful. This documentation is due by the end of Week 7.

Integrated Building Information Modelling Project
Coursework Overview Literature review: The purpose of this assessment is to for students to engage with peer-reviewed quality academic literature in order to produce an argument critically analysing collaborative working and the design management process on BIM enabled projects. 3.3 Coursework Tasks to be Completed by Students The submission should be structured as follows: Commence by contextualising key strategic targets across the Architectural, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry in relation to the use of BIM and Modern Methods of Construction. In the main body of the report the student should make use of a range of quality academic literature in order to explore collaborative working and the importance of effective building design management processes on BIM-enabled projects. Suitable conclusions should then be drawn (as informed by the literature) as how the AEC industry can respond to current challenges and opportunities in this area. To successfully complete this report a minimum of 20 carefully selected sources should be used to inform the literature review. These are to be relevant peer-reviewed quality academic journal articles. Relevant textbooks and conference papers can also be used to support the review. Web based sources should not be used, and will not be counted as any of these 20 selected sources. 3.4 Expected Size of Submission (e.g. typical word length, number of pages, time limit for a presentation. If there is a maximum size limit, please specify along with the penalties for exceeding this limit). 3,000 equivalent words (excluding the references section). Figures (diagrams, illustrations, photographs etc.) and tables are welcome but must be fully incorporated into the submission, integrated with the text and fully explained as to why they are exhibited. 200 words are counted for each figure/table used. The work must form a structured and coherent whole. On the front sheet of the submission, identify the total number of words used (excluding references section) and the number of figures/tables used. Penalties for exceeding this limit: If the work exceeds the allowable word limit by 10% (i.e. 300 words) then a 10% marks penalty will apply. This 10% penalty will continually be applied for any additional text that exceed blocks of 300 words thereafter.
