Security Policy Plan

This is a two-part deliverable using MS Word and MS Project, or their open source equivalents. This assignment focuses on information as an asset and logical security techniques for a hypothetical law firm. The goal of this deliverable is to secure an information security policy, suggesting the fundamental guidelines should an untoward event occur. It can be seen that information assets security management can be reduced down to three basic principles: integrity, confidentiality, and availability. Structure a policy around and within computers and associated equipment, as well as the people using it. Note: You may create or make all necessary assumptions needed for the completion of this assignment.

Submission Requirements

Write a 3–5 page paper in which you:

  • Create a cybersecurity policy describing the principle, the objective, and policy statement for the law firm’s company network.
  • Describe the roles and responsibilities by groups (e.g., position director of network security, the network security manager, network security engineers, IT area), defining roles and responsibilities.
  • Suggest the cybersecurity policy statement, an explanation of the policy statement, and the reasons why the policy statement may be controversial.
  • Determine the security testing methodology you would use to facilitate the assessment of technical controls.
Section 2

Complete the following:

  • Use Microsoft Project, or an open source alternative such as OpenProj, to create a security project plan for the law firm. The project plan should include:
    • Tasks, subtasks, resources, and predecessors.
    • An outline of the planning, analysis, design, and implementation phases.
    • The use of cybersecurity in the information systems development life cycle.

Module 4 – Case

COLLABORATIVE OR PRINCIPLED NEGOTIATION

Assignment Overview

Principled Negotiations (PN)

The decision to collaborate is not a simple one to take. It may seem plausible and it may be the right choice to make.

But how can we even think about working together towards an agreed solution, when the heart is pumping furiously and emotions are at their extreme, or when we have two or more entities each fully assured that only THEIR way is the right way?

The answer is simple – we need to ask ourselves: “what purpose will it serve?”

If collaboration will create the most advantageous options for us, and provide for optimal mutual gains, than we must proceed along that path, and put aside all other considerations and emotions.

The following articles are unique, as they account for the utilization (concept, approach and process) of PN to resolving well a conflict.

Please read:

1. Wall, B. M. (2010). Conflict and Compromise: Catholic and Public Hospital Partnerships. Nursing History Review. New York:2010. Vol. 18, p. 100-117 (18 pp.)

2. Bustard, D.W. (2002). An Experience of Principled Negotiation in Requirements Engineering. Australian Workshop on Requirements Engineering (AWRE’2002) . Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia. http://sunsite.informatik.rwth-aachen.de/Publications/CEUR-WS/Vol-69/paper05.pdf

Case Assignment

After carefully reading through these articles, CHOOSE ONE OF THEM, and answer (in at least four pages), the following questions:

1. What were the major points that made PN the EFFECTIVE method of choice (relative to other options) for your chosen case study?

2. Can this approach be emulated in and to other environments? Present an example.

Assignment Expectations

1. Please do NOT summarize the article, but focus on the effectiveness of PN.

2. When you present your example – point out how the PN principles would have created a benefit to the overall outcome.

Module 4 – SLP

Part II – How was it Negotiated? (in about 1 full page)

· Describe “your chosen” side’s decisions and/or behaviors and/or actions to the following:

o PN – Was the Principled Negotiation (PN) method, used in your case? If so, how? If not, could it have been implemented? how would it have benefited the two sides?

o Principles – How were the four principles of PN, carried out? If PN was not used, could it have been beneficial?

o BATNA – What was your side’s BATNA? Was there a case where it was “activated”? If No BATNA was prepared, discuss this in Part III.

Part III – What Would You Have Done? (in about 1 full page)

· Assuming you are the principal representative for your “chosen side”:

o What would YOU have done in this case to solve the issue?

o What decisions would YOU have taken?

world cultures 2 discussion week 6

Each week we will be looking at a set period from our past.  Although these are our ancestors, it will seem like we are studying a distant planet, inhabited by people with the strangest of habits.  Fortunately, these subjects of our observation give us abundant clues about who they are.  Their art, their writing, their technology, the way they do business, the way they govern themselves all feed into a picture we will attempt to paint for ourselves each week.  Understanding who they were will help us understand who we are.

Each week you will be given three or four questions pertaining to important topics covered in the materials provided in the question itself, the textbook, the lectures, the other materials provided, and my comments in my Live Session. You choose the one you like and post a response of 125 words or more.  You also need to respond to another post from one of your fellow students.  This second post should be at least 60 or so words long and should not just agree with or repeat what has been said.

Please use an example that has not already been used in the discussion

1.  Impressionist painters sought to portray the world they saw in emotional and immediate terms.  Russian realist painters sought to preserve national traditions and lifestyles in their work.  Both contributed to their national cultures by capturing the world around them in their painting, often showing an idealized version of that world.  Choose one Impressionist painter and one Realist painter and compare ;their contributions to their nation’s identity.  How did their art define something important about their national identity? Chapter 31 has some great examples.

2.    What does the Crystal Palace tell us about Britain in terms of technology, the economy, and society at the end of the 19th century?

3.   How did Edgar Degas portray women in his artwork?  How did Mary Cassatt portray women in her art?  Compare the two visions of women using some specific examples that demonstrate the roles these artists saw women playing in their time?   Chapter 32 has some great examples.

4. George Catlin’s artwork was exquisite but so were the many pieces of art created by the various Native American art traditions described in Chapter 32.  Compare Catlin’s work with one of those artistic traditions and what it produced. Please use specific examples.

5.  America created its own Crystal Palace with the Columbian Exhibition of 1893.  What was the purpose of this exhibition?  What picture of America does this exhibition paint?

6.  Your book has a short but good section on the birth of jazz.  Jazz is a uniquely American art form.  How did it reflect America in the time in which it was being born?  What picture of our country did this spectacularly creative art form paint?  Why did jazz come into being during a time when so much else was going on in America?  How does jazz today define America?

How to Improve Your Score with Discussion Boards

With the first week of Discussion Boards in front of us, it is a good time to pause and reflect before moving forward. If the score is the only thing you look at and moved on, you are doing yourself a disservice. Read the feedback and consider why you lost points, to prevent the same thing happening week after week.

Here are a few common mistakes to avoid:

  1. Not writing enough. This is a writing class. You are expected to read and listen to the materials, analyze and write an understandable response that covers the subject and answers the questions. Use complete sentences, as these are not short-answer questions. You might need to do a bit of extra research.
  2. Cite your sources at the end of the initial post. Never cut-and-paste materials from sources. We want to see your thoughts and not those of others. If you summarize someone else’s thoughts or you use a direct quote, cite them. With assignments of this length, do not use long quotes. A short phrase is the maximum.
  3. If your response to your classmates is “Great post!” “I agree with you!”  are all you write, then you will not get points. Read their posts and find something they say that you can comment on. You can agree or disagree but provide evidence to prove your claims. The length here is important as well. Say something interesting that relates to the subject. Again, if you use outside sources, cite them.
  4. Make sure your comments are organized, relate to the subject and make sense.
  5. Check grammar, spelling, sentence structure, etc. As a college student, mistakes in these areas should not be present in your writing. When they are present, go back and review and learn why you made the mistake, so that you will not make them next time.
  6. When you have completed your post, before you post it, re-read and edit it. You send your best work to be graded. Grading should not be an editing service, but a confirmation of your hard work. You are not done and should not post until you have edited your work for errors.
  7. As a southerner, I often tell myself…Self, you cannot write the way you speak. Use your formal voice, with correct grammar and diction. To be honest, I was born a redneck, but I work hard to keep it under wraps in my writing. Writing well will become one of the greatest skills you can develop, but it takes constant work.
  8. Try to check and respond to your classmates throughout the week. Read my responses to your classmates as well. You will find that the give and take of the responses will add much to your understanding.

Hopefully, these thoughts will help. Go through this process each week after grades are posted. It is always about continual improvement. I often say that for any of us, there is no finish line in writing. We will work to improve throughout our lives. Dr. Mike

Grit and Growth

  *****DUE IN 3 HRS*****

“Grit and Growth” The theme this week (“Friends and Enemies”) introduced the idea that tangible or intangible resources or obstacles can serve as your friends and enemies as you pursue your college degree. Note that your friends and enemies can be interpreted as your opportunities and threats.

1. Opportunities and Threats

As we discussed last week, a SWOT analysis is a tool that helps businesses and individuals assess their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. For this assignment, you will focus on Opportunities and Threats. To generate your list of Opportunities, explore the Grantham catalog or website to identify at least three opportunities (resources) you will rely on the most as you pursue your degree. Write a paragraph of at least 150 words to convey your opportunities. To generate your list of Threats, think about your personal and professional obligations to identify at least three threats that you may need to overcome as you pursue your degree. Write a paragraph of at least 150 words to convey your threats.

2. Grit

Explain what grit means to you and why having grit is important in life. Use your own words – do not copy what has already been provided in this class. Provide an example from your own experience in which you demonstrated grit to accomplish a big goal. If you do not think you have demonstrated grit in the past, describe an instance in which you failed to accomplish a big goal and describe how you would act differently if you had a chance to try again.

3. Growth Mindset

Look up some information about Dr. Dweck’s Growth Mindset. Type the words dweck growth mindset into your favorite internet search engine. Select one source (be sure to write down the URL) and while reading/viewing that source, take some notes about what points the author is making. Do not copy word for word – use your own words to rephrase what the author has written.

4. Comparison of Grit and Growth Mindset

Write a paragraph of at least 150 words in which you describe the growth mindset, and how it relates to grit. You might also compare it to “fixed mindset” which is often presented along with growth mindset. Provide your own examples of what it means to have a growth mindset, and how you can apply the concept in your college work.

Discussion 1: Examining Social Change

A core principle of Walden University’s mission is to engage students in social change through their educational experience. If you have taken the time to explore the Walden University website on social change, you may have noted that social change can take many forms, from direct service to individuals, to working more broadly in the community, to developing programs or resources, and many other activities. The social change activities of Walden’s faculty, students, and graduates incorporate some or all of the eight features of social change explored by Callahan—scholarship, systemic thinking, reflection, practice, collaboration, advocacy, civic engagement, and human ethics. How has your thinking regarding social change, and your role as an agent of such change, evolved throughout your journey as a Walden student?

For this Discussion, you will analyze the features of social change as they relate to your experiences in enacting social, community, and educational change.

To prepare:

  • Review the Callahan et al. (2012) paper and reflect on the eight features of social change. Which of the features are of interest to you and how might you become more involved in enacting social change in your field by highlighting those particular features?
  • Review the Walden University sites regarding social change and Walden’s Global Days of Service. Think about your own past social change experiences in your community, how you currently effect      social change, and how you might plan to do so in the future.
  • Read the Cooper et al. (2016) case study. Consider how the leadership practices of the teachers in the case study did or did not impact change within their schools. How might you become a leader in your program, school, district, or community to enact positive educational change?

  An explanation of the following:

  • The two features of social change as described by Callahan et al. (2012) that interest you the most. Be sure to explain how those features might support your efforts in creating social change within your field.
  • A past social change experience in your educational setting or community and what the web of eight features would look like for that experience. Be sure to explain why some features of social change would be higher or lower on the web.
  • Your vision for enacting positive educational change in your setting and the leadership strategies and practices you will need to support your vision.

For this Discussion, and all scholarly writing in this course and throughout your program, you will be required to use APA style and provide reference citations.

Discussion 1 and 2

1.  The patient will not take the medication that prevents him from harming himself or others. Without the medication he may harm himself or others. What are the rights(noun) in conflict? Which right should prevail? What is the right (adjective) thing to do? Defend your choice.

2.  A 12-year child with a terminal diagnosis of sarcoma of the arm has a large suppurating wound that has a foul odor and drains constantly, damaging the surrounding skin. The wound is painful and requires painful dressings daily. Her life expectancy is 6 months to a year. A surgical procedure could remove most of the tumor and facilitate closing of the skin. The surgery would not improve the child’s prognosis or extend her life. It would reduce the pain, eliminate the odor, decrease or eliminate the dressing changes and allow better use of the affect arm. The child is refusing the surgery. The parents understand the hoped for improved quality of life and can see the benefit of the surgery. However, they are reluctant to approve the procedure since the child has had multiple other procedures and is afraid and doesn’t want the surgery. They are strongly considering allowing the child to make the decision. What rights are in conflict and which right should prevail? What other information might you need to make a decision? What is the right (adjective) thing to do?

Each discussion must have 400 words, intext citation, scholarly less than 6 years

Top Ratings for Compensation and Benefits DP

Research any one of the top employer lists frequently posted by top news publications or industry journals, which you can search for using the Internet. Once you have found the information, complete the following:

  • Read the top 25 employers on the list.
  • Note how many of these employers made the list because of their compensation and/or benefits policies, and also note the specific compensation-related policies that were mentioned.
  • Log which policies were mentioned.

Based on your research about top employers, prepare an analysis of your findings in a report that includes the following:

  • Prepare a chart listing at least 10 of the top employers, their ranking on the list, and the compensation or benefit that was cited as a reason for being a top employer.
  • Next, review your list of employers. Can you make any determination from that list? Is there a pattern that makes for a top employer in compensation and benefits? What characteristics do you view as being more important than others?
  • Conclude with a recommendation for your current or desired HR manager. Explain what standards you think are critical to becoming recognized as a top employer with excellent compensation and benefits policies. In other words, create the standard you think your company should follow. Justify your recommendations.

Your report should be no more than 2 pages. Be sure to use proper APA style in citing and referencing your sources.

Assignment 2: Website Development Checklist and Report

According to the old saying, “if you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.” Designing a website is no different. Without a project plan, your project has no direction and has an increased chance of failure. For this assignment, you will create a 1- to 2-page Website Development Checklist that can be used to ensure the success of future website development projects. In addition, you will write 2- to 3-page report explaining the importance of asking the right questions.

Directions:

To assist you with this assignment, refer to your textbook and consider using some of the resources listed in the “Recommended Digital Assets” section of this syllabus or find your own resources and reference materials.

Part I: Website Development Checklist

To successfully analyze your client’s needs, you should collect as much information about the project as possible. To assist in your data collection, develop a checklist of at least 20 questions that a website developer should ask when beginning a project.

Organize your questions into the following categories:

  1. Purpose of the Website
  2. Primary Audience of the Website
  3. Project Members’ Roles and Responsibilities
  4. Preferred Programming Languages
  5. Website Hosting Requirements
(i.e., backup, bandwidth, databases, disk space (storage), e-mail addresses, mailing lists, monthly cost, MySQL databases, operating system, SSL, startup costs, support).
