Overview

The purpose of the assignment is to teach students how to formulate and pursue global governance research within their area of interest. Read the instructions and submit the proposed research topic for approval. What is your topic of interest? What puzzles confound you in the area of global governance theory and practice? What role do international institutions, private and government officials, NGOs, and multinational corporations play in global governance?

Instructions

Identify a topic of interest and describe it in a paragraph. Reflect on the purpose of your study (i.e., to explain, understand, explore, examine, critique, etc.) Formulate and submit the research question.

§  The paper must not be on a subject written for any other course, a Discussion Assignment or Essay for this course.

§  The topic should be narrow enough to write a short paper (5-6 pages) yet detailed enough to contain a thesis statement, be coherent, and clear. The Instructor will help you narrow your topic.

The research topic must be written in current APA style with default margins, 12-pt Times New Roman font, and submitted in an MS Word document. The paper must include a title page and reference page, also in current APA format.

JUST THE TOPIC SELECTION

HUMN 100 Final Project

For your final project, you will choose a subject, find three expressions of that subject in three different Humanities disciplines, describe the three different presentations, and offer an analysis of each of your choices.

Due Dates

  • Part 1: Selection of Topic due at the end of Week 3
  • Part 2: Development of your topic due at the end of Week 6
  • Part 3: Paper due at the end of Week 8

Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is to apply the concepts and skills you have learned during the semester for how to analyze works within the Humanities.

Skills

This assignment will help you practice the following skills that will be useful to you in your professional and personal life beyond school.

  1. Research, select, and describe appropriate examples
  2. Organize materials around a specific theme
  3. Use concepts and skills learned in class to develop analytical skills
  4. Use appropriate and proper grammar, organization, and academic-style formatting in order to communicate

Knowledge

This assignment will help you become familiar with the following important content knowledge in the Humanities.

  1. Available online resources which contain examples of works in the Humanities
  2. Methods of analysis and interpretation within the Humanities

Part 1: Selection of Topic.

This part of the final project is your choice of topic.

Choose one of the following subjects or propose one of your own.

  • One particular emotion or state of mind such as anger, jealousy, fear, gratitude, confusion, etc.
  • One specific fairy tale, myth, fable, or classic story from any culture
  • One religious or spiritual lesson or belief such as humility, hope, enlightenment, renunciation, reincarnation, the Trinity, the eight-fold path, ahimsa (non-violence), etc.
  • One political or social theme such as social justice or injustice, social inequality, social progress, political conflict, etc.
  • One form of cultural/societal identity such as race, sexual-orientation, gender identity, ethnicity, or class, or you could combine two of these such as “black women,” or “Chinese-American fathers,” or “LGBTQ Native-Americans.”
  • A specific fictional character such as a character from a novel, play or film or a specific public personality such as a news anchor, a religious leader etc.
  • One natural force or element of the natural world, like a kind of weather (snow, rain, sun), an animal (cat, dog, horse), a kind of landscape (mountain, oceanic, desert), vegetation (trees, flowers, grass, rivers etc.).

Explain two reasons for your choice in a short paragraph of 4-5 sentences. Be sure to include the significance of your choice to your own thinking about the world and/or its cultural significance.

Due Date for Part 1: This submission is due during Week 3, with the final day of submission being the Tuesday of the third week (11:30pm ET). Please see the Course Schedule for the exact final due date for this submission. The submission should be carefully edited and proofed for standard use of English.

Part 2: Development of your Topic.

This part of the final project is a summary of your ongoing work on the final paper; it should include three paragraphs, one covering each selected work. You should also make sure to re-state what your subject is.

Identify how the subject you chose in Part 1 appears in three different works, each from a different Humanities discipline (visual art, music, dance, poetry, prose, theater, film, religion). For instance, you could choose a poem, a painting and a scene from a film, all of which express and represent the theme of anger. Or, to be even more specific, if you choose the emotion of “love,” the final paper could analyze and discuss love as it is expressed in Shakespeare’s Sonnet 147 (literature), Boticelli’s Birth of Venus (visual art), and in the ballet Swan Lake (dance).

Write one short paragraph (3-5 sentences) about each of your selections in which you:

  1. Choose reliable and appropriate examples (a good-quality image, recording, video, etc.).
  2. Identify and cite the source, including the artist, creator etc as well as where you found the example.
  3. Explain why you find the example relevant for this assignment and mention one tool from the class materials and discussions you might be able to use to talk about it.

Due Date for Part 2: This submission is due during Week 6, with the final day of submission being the Tuesday  of the sixth week (11:30pm ET). Please see the Course Schedule for the exact final due date for this submission. The submission should be carefully edited and proofed for standard use of English.

Part 3: Paper.

This part of the final project is the paper that presents your description and analysis of your selected works.

This part of the final project is the paper that presents your description and analysis of your selected works.

In a 750-1200 word essay:

  • Explain the subject you chose and why it’s worth exploring in the Humanities
  • Describe each of your selected examples, including 1) information about its creator; 2) its historical or cultural context (how it fits into a historical period’s or a specific culture’s attitudes, events etc. Think about what else was going on in the culture and history when the piece was created); and 3) link to the example or an embedded image with a citation in the paper where you write about each example.
  • Use at least one specific interpretative tool from the course to explain each of your selected examples. You should use a different tool for each example, so you should use at least three different tools in your paper.
  • Assess the effectiveness or impact of each representation. In other words, how well did the representation present the subject? How effective was it? What impact did this representation have? What specific elements of the representation lead you to your conclusions?
  • Provide a correctly formatted paper, complete and proper citations for any references you consult, using MLA format

Documentation Style: The paper is to be formatted and documented in the MLA format. For general assistance, see the links below to the UMUC Library.

STOP: Before you hand in your assignment, make sure to ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Have I included a paragraph that provides one to two logical, concrete, well-stated reasons that this subject is worth exploring within the Humanities?
  2. Have I included least two to three sentences for each example that clearly and concretely provide information about its creator, cultural/historical context, and where I found it-an image or link?
  3. Have I included at least one to three sentences that explains and applies a specific interpretative tool that is from the course’s learning resources or discussions to each example?
  4. Have I included at least one to three sentences that contains an assessment of the effectiveness of each example in representing the chosen subject?
  5. Have I provided a list of resources and do all of my citations conform to MLA 8th edition or APA guidelines?
  6. Have I proofread this assignment for grammatical, structural, and spelling errors?

Due Date for Part 3: This submission is due during Week 8, with the final day of submission being the Tuesday of the eighth week (11:30pm ET). Please see the Course Schedule for the exact final due date for this submission. The submission should be carefully edited and proofed for standard use of English.

I have attached all the weekly textbook to help you with this paper. Kindly let me know if you need any other thing. Thank you.

socw6311-wk4-Discussion: Selection of a Statistical Analysis Approach

though data analysis occurs after the study has completed a data collection stage, the researcher needs to have in mind what type of analysis will allow the researcher to obtain an answer to a research question. The researcher must understand the purpose of each method of analysis, the characteristics that must be present in the study for the design to be appropriate and any weaknesses of the design that might limit the usefulness of the study results. Only then can the researcher select the appropriate design. Choosing the appropriate design enables the researcher to claim the data that is potential evidence that provides information about the relationship being studied. Notice that it is not the statistical test which tells us that research is valid, rather, it is the research design. Social workers must be aware of and adjust any limitations of their chosen design that may impact the validity of the study.

To prepare for this Discussion, review the handout, A Short Course in Statistics and pages 210–220 in your course text Social Work Evaluation: Enhancing What We Do. If necessary, locate and review online resources concerning internal validity and threats to internal validity. Then, review the “Social Work Research: Chi Square” case study located in this week’s resources. Consider the confounding variables, that is, factors that might explain the difference between those in the program and those waiting to enter the program.

Post2 to 3 pages) an interpretation of the case study’s conclusion that “the vocational rehabilitation intervention program may be effective at promoting full-time employment.” Describe the factors limiting the internal validity of this study, and explain why those factors limit the ability to draw conclusions regarding cause and effect relationships.

Project: Risk Management Plan

Purpose

This project provides an opportunity to apply the competencies gained in the lessons of this course to develop a risk management plan for a fictitious organization to replace its outdated plan.

Learning Objectives and Outcomes

You will gain an overall understanding of risk management, its importance, and critical processes required when developing a formal risk management plan for an organization.

Required Source Information and Tools

The following tools and resources that will be needed to complete this project:

  • Course textbook
  • Internet access for research

Deliverables

As discussed in this course, risk management is an important process for all organizations. This is particularly true in information systems, which provide critical support for organizational missions. The heart of risk management is a formal risk management plan. The project activities described in this document allow you to fulfill the role of an employee participating in the risk management process in a specific business situation.

The project is structured as follows:

Project Part

Deliverable

Project  Part 1

Task  1: Risk Management Plan

Task  2: Risk Assessment Plan

Task  3: Risk Mitigation Plan

Submission Requirements

All project submissions should follow this format:

  • Format:     Microsoft Word or compatible
  • Font:     Arial, 10-point, double-space
  • Citation     Style: Your school’s preferred style guide
  • Minimum 2     pages per task

Scenario

You are an information technology (IT) intern working for Health Network, Inc. (Health Network), a fictitious health services organization headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Health Network has over 600 employees throughout the organization and generates $500 million USD in annual revenue. The company has two additional locations in Portland, Oregon and Arlington, Virginia, which support a mix of corporate operations. Each corporate facility is located near a co-location data center, where production systems are located and managed by third-party data center hosting vendors.

Company Products

Health Network has three main products: HNetExchange, HNetPay, and HNetConnect.

HNetExchange is the primary source of revenue for the company. The service handles secure electronic medical messages that originate from its customers, such as large hospitals, which are then routed to receiving customers such as clinics.

HNetPay is a Web portal used by many of the company’s HNetExchange customers to support the management of secure payments and billing. The HNetPay Web portal, hosted at Health Network production sites, accepts various forms of payments and interacts with credit-card processing organizations much like a Web commerce shopping cart.

HNetConnect is an online directory that lists doctors, clinics, and other medical facilities to allow Health Network customers to find the right type of care at the right locations. It contains doctors’ personal information, work addresses, medical certifications, and types of services that the doctors and clinics offer. Doctors are given credentials and are able to update the information in their profile. Health Network customers, which are the hospitals and clinics, connect to all three of the company’s products using HTTPS connections. Doctors and potential patients are able to make payments and update their profiles using Internet-accessible HTTPS Web sites.

Information Technology Infrastructure Overview

Health Network operates in three production data centers that provide high availability across the company’s products. The data centers host about 1,000 production servers, and Health Network maintains 650 corporate laptops and company-issued mobile devices for its employees.

Threats Identified

Upon review of the current risk management plan, the following threats were identified:

· Loss of company data due to hardware being removed from production systems

· Loss of company information on lost or stolen company-owned assets, such as mobile devices and laptops

· Loss of customers due to production outages caused by various events, such as natural disasters, change management, unstable software, and so on

· Internet threats due to company products being accessible on the Internet

· Insider threats

· Changes in regulatory landscape that may impact operations

Management Request

Senior management at Health Network has determined that the existing risk management plan for the organization is out of date and a new risk management plan must be developed. Because of the importance of risk management to the organization, senior management is committed to and supportive of the project to develop a new plan. You have been assigned to develop this new plan.

Additional threats other than those described previously may be discovered when re-evaluating the current threat landscape during the risk assessment phase.

The budget for this project has not been defined due to senior management’s desire to react to any and all material risks that are identified within the new plan. Given the company’s annual revenue, reasonable expectations can be determined.

Project Part 1 Task 2: Risk Assessment Plan

After creating an initial draft of the risk management plan, the second part of the assigned project requires you to create a draft of the risk assessment (RA) plan. To do so, you must:

  1. Develop an introduction to the plan explaining its purpose and importance.
  2. Create an outline for the RA plan.
  3. Define the scope and boundaries for the RA plan.
  4. Research and summarize RA approaches.
  5. Identify the key roles and responsibilities of individuals and departments within the organization as they pertain to risk assessment.
  6. Develop a proposed schedule for the RA process.
  7. Create a professional report detailing the information above as an initial draft of the RA plan.

Evaluation Criteria and Rubrics

  • Did the student demonstrate an understanding of the competencies covered in the course relating to risk assessments?
  • Did the student include all important components of a RA plan in the outline?
  • Did the student demonstrate good research, reasoning, and decision-making skills in identifying key components and methodologies?
  • Did the student create a professional, well-developed draft with proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation?

Warby Parker

Please provide a one to two-page paper on the topic. This work should include an opening paragraph clearly restating the questions (DO Not simply copy the questions). Then apply at least one complete paragraph on each of the topics, followed by a closing or summary paragraph. Cites and structure should comply with APA v6 style.

Questions

  1. In this chapter, business was defined as the organized effort of individuals to produce and sell, for a profit, the goods and services that satisfy society’s needs. In what ways is Warby Parker satisfying the needs of its customers?
  2. Given that Warby Parker’s original idea was to sell online to minimize distribution costs and keep prices low, they now have opened over 50 stores in 22 U.S. states. Do you agree with its more recent decision to open traditional retail stores?
  3. Imagine you wear eyeglasses and have just broken your last pair of glasses. Would you purchase glasses from Warby Parker’s online store or go to a traditional retailer? Explain your answer.

Warby Parker Puts Affordable Eyewear in Focus

Entrepreneur—a person who risks time, effort, and money to start and operate a business. That definition describes Dave Gilboa—along with Neil Blumenthal, Andy Hunt, and Jeff Raider—four entrepreneurs who started a new type of eyewear company called Warby Parker. Their goal was simple: Sell eyeglasses for less than $100 per pair. The business idea grew out of co-founder Dave Gilboa’s personal experience. When he was a graduate student, he lost his glasses while hiking and was so outraged by the high price of replacing them that he squinted for months rather than buy new glasses. Eyeglasses are made from wire, plastic, screws, and glass, yet the retail price is often many times the actual cost of the materials, yielding a hefty profit margin. Adding a designer logo to a pair of frames pushes the final price even higher. Talking with friends, Gilboa learned he wasn’t the only person unhappy about having to spend a lot for eyeglasses. So the four entrepreneurs became a team and created a business plan for a new kind of eyewear company that would sell eyeglasses at an affordable price.

What really makes Warby Parker different? How can they sell eyeglasses and sunglasses for less than $100 while other retailers and marketing intermediaries including LensCrafters, Pearle Vision, and Sunglass Hut sell their products for much more? Again, the answer is simple: They sell directly to consumers. Direct marketing through its online virtual store keeps Warby Parker’s distribution costs low and avoids the kind of markups that other retailers use to increase the final price they charge in order to boost their profits. Another reason why Warby Parker can charge less is that its in-house designers develop all its frame styles, which means no licensing fees for the right to use famous fashion logos. Customers benefit because Warby Parker passes the savings along in the form of affordable prices for quality eyewear.

Warby Parker’s online website makes it easy—very easy—to buy eyeglasses. Customers can select up to five eyeglass frames from its online inventory and have their choices delivered for a five-day free at-home trial before purchasing a pair. Warby Parker pays the postage both ways, so the customer risks nothing. Frame prices begin at $95 per pair, although optional extras such as progressive lenses will increase the final price. After deciding on a frame, the customer submits a prescription, clicks to finalize the order, and receives new glasses by mail within one to two weeks.

Originally, Warby Parker marketed its eyeglasses only online. In 2010, initial sales were so brisk that the startup surpassed its first-year sales objectives by the end of the first three weeks. During the first six months of 2011, Warby Parker had already sold 85,000 pairs. Since then, sales have continued to grow each year as more tech savvy customers are purchasing eyeglasses online. But not everything is online. Customers have always been able to visit the company’s headquarters, see frames in person, and try them on before ordering. This proved so popular that after a few years, the co-founders decided to open small showrooms in large cities so more customers could try on frames and consult with staff before making their purchase.

Now Warby Parker has embarked on an ambitious strategy of opening more stores in cities where the company’s database shows high concentrations of customers. It now has over 50 stores and showrooms in 22 U.S. states. Some of these stores are equipped for optical examinations. Some include photo kiosks so customers can snap fun photos of themselves wearing different frames and post to social media for advice from friends. The photos don’t just help customers make buying decisions—they keep the Warby Parker brand in the public eye and help the firm stay in touch with customers who opt to receive communications.

What’s next for Warby Parker as it shakes up the eyewear industry with direct marketing, retail stores, low prices, fun styles, and social responsibility? Good question. While sales are reported to be over $100 million a year, the company does have a social conscious: It donates a pair of glasses to someone in need for every pair it sells. As evidence of its commitment to social responsibility, Warby Parker is now a “B corporation.” Choosing to become a B corporation is one more way to demonstrate its commitment to social responsibility and attract customers, investors, and employees who share those values. At the time of the publication of your text, Warby Parker is funded by private investors. And although there have been rumors that Warby Parker will sell stock to the general public, it is just speculation at this point. You may want to keep your eyes open to see what happens to this young eyeglass company and how it may impact the eyeglass industry.

CIS 524 Accessibility

Week 2 project gorontology

In a Microsoft Word document of 4-5 pages formatted in APA style, you will discuss your interview of an older adult. This person cannot be a patient in your clinical setting. You can use a friend, family member, or co-worker. The older adult must be age 65 years or older.
There are two parts to this assignment – the psychosocial interview component and the functional assessment.

Interview

Download the patient questionnaire. Use this format to record the person’s responses.

  • Include 2–3 questions of your own to get a complete picture of the older adult.
  • Summarize your findings.
  • Include the questionnaire with responses in the Appendix of your paper.

Assessment

After gaining permission, conduct a physical and mental functional assessment of the older adult you have chosen. Review your readings for the process of a functional assessment.

  • Use the tools discussed this week to complete a comprehensive assessment of your patient. Search the Internet for resources on these tools.
    • Tinetti Balance and Gait Evaluation
    • Katz Index of Activities of Daily Living
    • Assessment of Home Safety
    • The Barthel Index
    • Do not include a name on each tool, but do include professional or other designation, and age. Your name should also be identified on the tool.
      • Include these tools in the Appendix.
  • Based on your assessment:
    • Compare and contrast the age-related changes of the older person you interviewed and assessed with those identified in this week’s reading assignment.
    • Identify at least 4–6 preliminary issues.
    • Identify three alterations in health that you would propose and describe them.
    • Identify a minimum of three comprehensive interventions for each alteration.
    • Integrate cultural considerations in your interventions.
