Week 2 project

It has been suggested that the art of Mesopotamia often contains elements that can be seen as fearsome, militant, or political in nature, while the art of the ancient Aegean is more harmonious, exuberant, and non-threatening. Using your textbook, carefully examine the art from both places.

Ancient Near East (Mesopotamia)

Choose three examples from the art of the ancient Near East that either prove or disprove the statement that the art of this region can be seen as fearsome, militant, or political in nature. Capture each image and place it in the Word document provided for this assignment. For each example, you will need to provide the following information: The title of the work, its date, its place of origin, a detailed description as to what you see being depicted in the work of art, 3–5 sentences as to the work’s historical value, and 4–7 sentences as to how this work of art proves or disproves the idea that art of this region is fearsome, militant, or political in nature.

The Ancient Aegean

Choose three examples from the art of the ancient Aegean that either prove or disprove the statement about the nature of the art from this region—that it is often viewed as harmonious, exuberant, and non-threatening. Capture each image and place it in the Word document provided for this assignment. Like with your selections for Mesopotamia, you need to provide the following information for each work of art: The title of the work, its date, its place of origin, a detailed description as to what you see being depicted in the work of art, 3–5 sentences as to the work’s historical value, and 4–7 sentences as to how this work of art proves or disproves the idea that art of this region is harmonious, exuberant, and non-threatening.

case conceptualization

Case Conceptualization Assignment Instructions

This will be a two-part assignment. Both parts are due on the same date and on the same

document.

Part I:

Read the following case study example of an individual admitted to a hospital to receive

treatment for substance use. While you are reading, consider the various biological,

psychological, and sociological (or environmental) factors that may have contributed to

this individual’s development of a substance use disorder. Using your knowledge of the

various models of substance use and theories of drug use presented in Chapter 2 of your

textbook, conceptualize this individual’s case from the perspective of

at least one model

or theory of substance use.

That is, explain why this individual may have developed a

substance use disorder according to the models or theories of your choosing (e.g. Is there

a genetic explanation for this disorder? Did the individual’s personality put them more at

risk for development of a substance use disorder?). There are many possible risk factors

present in this case for you to choose from.

For each model or theory from which you conceptualize this individual’s case, please do

the following:

1.

Identify which model or theory you are basing your conceptualization from.

2.

Identify which factors specifically are relevant to the chosen models or theories.

(For example, if you were using a personality theory, is the individual

perfectionistic? Compulsive?)

3.

Provide evidence that these factors are indeed present in this client’s case study.

4.

Describe how the factors relevant to your chosen model or theory have

contributed to the client’s development of a substance use disorder.

You must complete

all four

steps for

each

model or theory of conceptualization in order

to receive full credit.

Part II:

Now that we have reviewed motivators to change substance abuse behaviors and

effective treatment options for substance abuse, I would like each of you to design a

treatment plan for Joan

based on the information covered in previous modules.

Please

address the following in your response:

What would you recommend Joan’s parents do to communicate with Joan about

her marijuana use? Explain why. At which stage of change would you say Joan is

currently in? What are the therapist’s motivational tasks based on this stage? How

would a therapist accomplish these (i.e. motivational strategies to use)? Please be

sure to include the stage of change and NOT stage of substance use.

What do you think could be some obstacles to Joan during treatment? What are

some of Joan’s strengths that could benefit her during treatment?

What can Joan’s therapist do to help prevent Joan from relapsi

A media personality argues that global temperatures are not rising, because every year an increase is reported such as 0.08 degrees C. The difference from the previous year is less than the margin of error of about 0.15 degrees C, so that difference should be ignored. What is a strong counterargument?

Even 0.08 degrees is a lot and thus should be  considered.

The margin of error is just extra information and  thus can be ignored.

The difference with any previous decade is much  greater than the margin of error.

0.15 – 0.08 is 0.07, which is still an increase and  thus should be considered.

environmental science term paper

  • Read Chapter 2 in your book on “Environmental Laws, Economics, and Ethics”
  • Choose 3 of the 6 sources linked to in the “Term Paper Sources” folder on this page
  • For each of the 3 sources you chose:
    • Summarize the scientific results reported in the source
    • Decide whether or not the results support the arguments in favor of protecting endangered bat species
  • Finally, combining what you’ve learned in this course about the ecosystem as a complex interplay of dynamic systems, about conservation and the dangers of habitat destruction and fragmentation, and the concepts of environmental justice, make an argument for or against the “Miami Wilds” project based on concerns surrounding the conservation of the Florida Bonneted Bat

Whether you conclude that the research supports those in favor or against the “Miami Wilds” project not affect your grade on the term paper. Rather, it is important that you demonstrate that you can consider evidence impartially, evaluate it on its scientific merits, and communicate it in a way that anyone can understand.

You must work individually. You must cite the sources you considered, using APA style, in a “References” section at the end of your paper (do not include the citations in the body of your text). No outside sources. Your paper should be a minimum of 5 pages, not including references or any cover pages, double-spaced, 12pt font. You must turn in your paper using the “Turnitin” link included at the end of this assignment by December 2.

Reflect on Cultural Competence and Sensitivity

Your  reflective journal is intended to be a place where you “think out  loud.”  This assignment is the first reflection in your ongoing journal  for this course.

This first journal entry should focus on your background and  upbringing as it relates to cultural and familial norms. Norms are  actions and beliefs that are accepted as “NORMal” behaviors by a group  or society (Lundin, 2019). Consider the following questions as you  complete this assignment:

  1. What cultural norms and familial norms did you grow up with?
  2. What has changed for you or stayed the same?
  3. What has changed or stayed the same for others in your community and/or the students you teach?
  4. Considering the issues of implicit bias, personal identity, and  changing times, has anything in this first week surprised you or made  you uncomfortable? Why might have this surprised you?
  5. What would you like to learn more about and explore further regarding cultural and familial norms?

If you would prefer to submit your journal as a video journal, please  let your instructor know. You can use the video tool available in  NCUOne to create video journal entries instead of written entries.  Instructions for using this tool are available in this week’s resources.

Additionally, you may want to post some of your thoughts from your  journal in the NCU Commons. While you are welcome to share your thoughts  wherever you would like, a special conversation has been started within  the Educational Leadership community of practice; the link is available  in this week’s resources.  Introduce yourself, if you have not already,  then include whichever parts of your journal you would like to share.  Maybe even ask a couple of questions to engage others in a conversation.  Feedback and additional perspectives from the diverse voices in the NCU  Commons can help you to dive deeper into your ongoing reflections and  growth regarding cultural competence.

Length: 1 to 3-minute video or 1-2 pages; title and reference pages not required for journal entries.

References: References are not required for the journal. If you do  choose to cite references, use APA style for in-text citations and the  reference list.

Your journal should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas  and concepts that are presented in the course and provide new thoughts  and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should  reflect graduate-level writing and APA standards. ASIAN100 Research Paper

You will be expected to write a research paper investigating some aspect of economic, political, or social relations in a state of the Asia Pacific. We will discuss this process throughout the semester, but it is important for you to get an early start to produce a high-quality product.

Points will be deducted for poor writing, bad organization, weak substance, illogical argumentation, or other errors that reduce the quality of your work.  Similarly, points can be added for skillful writing, clear organization, strong substance, solid logical argumentation, and other quality-enhancing elements.

Please use Arial 12 point font for your paper.  You may use APA, MLA, or Chicago Manual style.

The more quality resources you use, the better your paper will be.  Including books by scholars that are at the cutting edge of research in your field of investigation is important to your success.  For example, if you were doing research in orientalism, it might be important to include Edward Said in your bibliography.

I will evaluate you using the following criteria:

  1. Is your writing clear, concise, comprehensive, engaging, and grammatically correct?
  2. Does your research rely on a sufficient depth and breadth of quality resources?
  3. Is your thesis falsifiable and do you muster sufficient evidence and logic to justify your conclusions?

Some topic areas you might consider include:

  1. What role does ethnicity play in the politics of a given Asian Pacific country?
  2. How does the film, fiction, or art represent economic, political, or social trends in a given Asian Pacific country?
  3. How do debates about the teaching of history reflect current economic, political, and or social trends?
  4. What has been the path of democratization or economic development in a given Asian Pacific country?
  5. How does ideology impact the economy, politics, and society of a given Asian Pacific country?
  6. How does corruption influence the economy, politics, and society of a given Asian Pacific country?
  7. What role do global justice concerns play in the economy, politics, and society of a given Asian Pacific country?
  8. What role do environmental concerns play in the economy, politics, and society of a given Asian Pacific country?
  9. How do geopolitical concerns impact the politics of the various states in the region?

Introductions and Your Story

Week 1: Introductions and Your Story

Contains unread posts

In this course, we will express our ideas, share what we’ve learned, and provide feedback to our fellow classmates by participating in discussions. The discussions provide a forum for us to interact with each other, as well as to make connections and build relationships that may endure throughout your academic journey and beyond.

University of Maryland Global Campus operates under a code of civility that requires respect, kindness, and nondiscrimination in all interactions. Keep the code of civility in mind as you participate in the course discussions.

Let’s begin by introducing ourselves and providing a story about what brought you to University of Maryland Global Campus. Your story is important, and sharing it with your classmates provides opportunities to learn, relate, and gain inspiration from each other.

Tell us a little about yourself and share what brought you here. Be as creative as you wish with the format for your story! Write a narrative, upload a photo with your written story, or create and post a video.

Your story should be 200 to 300 written words, or a 2- to 3-minute video/audio recording using your choice of recording device. Make sure everyone can see and/or hear you. Respond to your classmates’ stories by posting comments describing what you learned or found interesting.

Here are some questions to think about and answer as you create your story.

  1. What brings you to University of Maryland Global Campus at this point in your life?
  2. What have you overcome to get to this point?
  3. Describe your support system. Who are they? How and why are they supporting you?
  4. What type of support are you looking to get from University of Maryland Global Campus?
  5. Beyond a degree, what do you hope to achieve as a student?

It’s important to start on the right foot and post your story to the Week 1 discussion by Sunday night. If you’re not able to post your discussion during Week 1, please reach out to me so we can create a plan to keep you on track. I am here to help you succeed! Additionally, to make this post interactive, I’d like you to respond to at least two classmates’ initial posts.

Advanced Excel Functionality

Objective: After the completion of this assignment, you will be able to:

  •  Employ the v-lookup function to merge data from multiple spreadsheets into a single, useable worksheet·         Calculate various metrics using formulas·         Convert text in a single cell into multiple cells
  • Use the concatenate function to merge data from multiple cells into a single cell
  • Merge and Unmerge cells
  • Utilize pivot tables to synthesize data from a spreadsheet

Background: Technology is key to data management and reporting, and Excel is an indispensible tool which allows for the manipulation of data and complex data analysis. This assignment assumes you have a basic working knowledge of Excel and will explore more advanced features that will greatly expand your ability to utilize spreadsheets in the context of HR administration.

Instructions: View the tutorial labeled “Advanced Excel” (linked here (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. and housed in the “Tutorials Folder” on the course content page).  Then complete the following tasks within the spreadsheet.

  1. On the “Personal Information” worksheet: Concatenate the two name fields into a single field so that name is displayed as Last Name, First Name. Copy and “paste as values” and delete the original name fields.3.  On “Salary” Worksheet: Compute the tenure of each employee from the Hire Date field.5.  On “Address” Worksheet: use the “convert text to columns” to divide location field into city and state and transfer to City and State fields in address block. Create fictitious street address and “drag down” to populate for all; do the same for zip code.7.  Using “V-Lookup” function, bring the following fields from the other worksheets into the “Master” worksheet: Pay Rate; Tenure; 2013 Bonus; Job Name; Email; Street Address; City; State; and Zip.a.  Demographics: Include employee counts by gender and ethnicity. Rename the worksheet with the pivot table “Demographics Summary.”
  2. Salary by Job: Include employee counts and average tenure, average salary and average bonus by job title. Rename the worksheet with the pivot table “Job Summary.”
  3. On “Master” worksheet: select all and create a separate pivot table for each of the following:
  4. Create a copy of the “Personal Information” worksheet and rename it “Master.”
  5. On “Address” Worksheet: generate an email for each employee consisting of [email protected]. Retain only one email field.
  6. On “Salary” Worksheet: Compute hourly rates for all employees listed with an annual salary (hrly rate = salary/2080). Replace salary values with hourly (retain only one pay rate field).

Deliverable: Submit your spreadsheet (a single excel file) as an attachment in the assignment dropbox by the due date.  In total, you should have 7 active worksheets (4 original and 3 new) in your file. Retain a copy of your file for use in assignment 3.

Context/overview: This week you will describe the channels of distribution structure you will use to get your product or into the market.

Write a 3-5 page paper that addresses:

•  The rationale for the structure you have selected.

•  How you will work with your channel members to help them promote your product to the ultimate consumer. This may include push and pull promotional strategies. How will you manufacture your product, warehouse it, and move the product to the next channel level?

•  What should your channel members expect from you, the manufacturer (marketer) of your product? How will your organization be structured to accomplish this?

The requirements below must be met for your paper to be accepted and graded:

•  Write between 750 – 1,250 words (approximately 3 – 5 pages) using Microsoft Word in APA style, see example below.

•  Use font size 12 and 1” margins.

•  Include cover page and reference page.

•  At least 80% of your paper must be original content/writing.

•  No more than 20% of your content/information may come from references.

•  Use at least three references from outside the course material, one reference must be from EBSCOhost. Text book, lectures, and other materials in the course may be used, but are not counted toward the three reference requirement.

•  Cite all reference material (data, dates, graphs, quotes, paraphrased words, values, etc.) in the paper and list on a reference page in APA style.

References must come from sources such as, scholarly journals found in EBSCOhost, CNN, online newspapers such as, The Wall Street Journal, government websites, etc. Sources such as, Wikis, Yahoo Answers, eHow, blogs, etc. are not acceptable for academic writing.
