Discuss the pros and cons of different living arrangements.  For example, there are places like the Greenhouse concept, independent living at home, traditional retirement facilities.  Be sure to consider the social and health services available in each scenario.  What is your preference for your parents or grandparents?  How about for yourself? 

 

Module 11 Overview:

Regardless of where we live, we know that the physical (or built) and social environments can make a profound difference in an older adult’s sense of well-being.  No environment is inherently good or bad.  What matters is the extent that the environment fits with the physical, cognitive, and emotional needs and allows them to maintain a degree of control over their surroundings.  The vast majority of older adults lives in independent housing and wants to continue to do so and regardless of the type of living situation, being able to have some control over relocation decisions is paramount.  For older adults who can no longer remain in independent housing, there is a growing number of residential living situations.  Assisted living and adult family homes are rapidly becoming cost-effective options to nursing homes for older people who need help with ADLs but not necessarily 24-hour care.  In addition, home care is now the fastest growing component of personal health care expenditures and allow older people to age in place while bringing services such as skilled nursing care, rehabilitation, and personal household care to the person’s home.  In recent years, the number of homeless adults age 55 and older has been growing and often face chronic medical, psychiatric, and cognitive disorders that go unattended because of inadequate access to health services.  The need for community-based long-term services and supports that allow elders to age in place will grow.  And, although future cohorts of elders will have more options, these will depend on their financial resources.

You are a preschool/young school-age teacher in an early childhood program, and you are excited to teach! This is your opportunity to develop and implement a developmentally appropriate lesson plan with preschool or young school-age children.

Instructions:

Part One – Lesson Plan

Develop an instructional lesson plan for preschool or young school-age children that includes the following:

Group, Setting, and Activity Name:

• Describes the setting and group of children with whom you will implement the lesson plan.
• Provide a name for the activity in the lesson plan.

Rationale – DAP: 

• How will this lesson be beneficial for this group of learners?
• What do you know about this group of learners that justifies presenting this lesson content and using these methods?

Part Two – Recording of Lesson Implementation

Using your cell phone or another smart device, record a video (up to 10 minutes maximum) of you implementing your lesson plan or a part of the plan.

Implementing the lesson plan in a live setting is not required. You may choose to record yourself practicing this lesson at home (or even with your family members). Remember, the focus of the video should be on your teaching practices.

If you choose to record your video in a live setting, please maintain confidentiality. Children’s faces should not be present in your video.

Submission Requirements:

• You will submit your completed lesson plan in a Word document and a video file of you implementing the lesson.
• To submit the lesson plan, copy and paste the lesson plan headings and questions (above) into a Word document and answer each question in detail using complete sentences
• To submit your video file, provide a link to your video or submit an MP3 file in a zipped file.

The music you listen to today evolved from the music that came before. Simple idea, but how do we hear this influence? How does music connect to previous eras? 

Music is shaped by society and innovation, and understanding both will help you pinpoint what era a song was composed, as well as see how that influences today’s music.

  • Use music you are familiar with or search the internet for ideas. You are the guide and ‘expert’ for why this music connects to a previous era. It is acceptable to look up information about this song to deepen your content information.
  • Why did you choose that song for this topic? What music elements, innovations or theme connect it to the past era? Is there a backstory to the song that enhances the content? 
• Part 3: Add Music – Embed a video or upload mp3 of the song you’ve referenced. 
  • Include identifying information (like a caption) below video listing the title, artist/composer, genre, approximate year released (not everyone may be familiar with your song)

Think about songs where the music is intended to sound like what the words are communicating (i.e. Garth Brooks’ “Friends in Low Places”: the word “low” is sung on a low note). 

Examples:

• Middles Ages: Lakota Sioux chant as part of a wacipi (pow wow). The single unison melody line is sung by the group with a focused message and purpose. 
• Renaissance: The chorus of “Thunder” by Imagine Dragons is an example of text painting. The song repeats the word “thunder” and accents the beginning of the word to make it sound like a thunder storm. The rhythm is repeated in an echo, resembling rumbling thunder.

   Update the Microsoft Project file you created in Assignment 3: VoIP  Part 2 (Work Breakdown Structure) with the following changes:

• Set property values to denote progress in at least fifteen (15) of the line items. 
• Set properties so that at least one (1) of the main tasks is behind schedule.
• Create a Gantt chart for your project.
• Take a screenshot of the Gantt chart which can later be inserted into your written paper.
• Create a PERT diagram that identifies the critical path.

Write a two to three (2-3) page paper in which you:

1. Compare and contrast the information that one receives from a Gantt chart, versus that of a PERT diagram.
2. Examine  the advantages of using a Gantt chart over a PERT chart and vice versa.  Determine when it is appropriate to use one over the other. Justify  your response.
3. Assess the importance of the critical path in project management.
4. Insert  the screenshots of the Gantt and PERT charts you created based on the  provided criteria. Elaborate on the status of the VoIP deployment  project based on the updated information.  Note: The graphical representations do not count toward the overall page requirement.
5. Use  at least two (2) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia  and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.
