Option #1: Addressing a Diversity Conflict

Option #1: Addressing a Diversity Conflict

As a leader in your organization, you know your people, and they know you.  The employees see you as trustworthy.  You are always encouraging employees to grow and excel to the best of their abilities. This understanding has allowed you to influence team members to continue doing what is needed and to change behaviors and attitudes that hold back the success of the team and organization.  In your organization, you are beginning to encounter a pervasive belief that diversity and excellence are somehow in conflict. Answer the following questions:

  1. In your experience, what are the challenges faced by members of historically underrepresented groups in your organization?
  2. What strategies have you used to address these challenges, and how successful were those strategies?
  3. How do you conceptualize the relationship between diversity and excellence?
  4. What kinds of leadership efforts would you undertake to encourage a commitment to excellence through diversity?
  5. Explain the importance of a global perspective and an integrated approach to diversity and inclusion to your employees.

Submission Requirements:

  1. 4 pages in length (not including title or reference pages) and be formatted according to the CSU Global Guide to Writing and APA Requirements (Links to an external site.).
  2. Be sure to discuss and reference concepts taken from the course reading material and relevant research.
  3.  minimum of 6 credible, academic, or professional references beyond the text or other course materials (at least two scholarly/peer-reviewed from the CSU Global Library).

[References: Add APA citations for any articles or videos in the assignment.]

Social Stratification Benchmark

The final benchmark paper should be a noticeably revised update of the three drafts submitted in Topics 5-7, incorporating instructor comments and personal revising.

Create an essay consisting of the revised versions of the essays in Topics 3, 5 and 6. This section should be 2,250-3,000 words.

Write a conclusion of 350-400 words, explaining how the social institution you chose contributes to the social stratification of the United States for better and for worse. (Comp. 3.5)

You should note the References for parts I-III along with the conclusion at the end of the paper.

Utilize the GCU Library to locate a minimum of three scholarly sources to support your conclusion.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

Deliverable 5 – Effectively Managing Change(4-6 Pages)

Competency

Apply management essentials to effectively manage change in an organization.

Scenario

Electronix R US has decided that their traditional large warehouse retail operations are no longer financially lucrative or necessary for the amount of foot traffic they receive. They feel that more and more people are choosing to purchase their electronics online or at big box retailers. They have decided to solely operate online and out of a few small “pop-up” locations in other large department stores.

Electronix R US has decided to hire your company, BB Consulting, to train the managers to prepare them for the conversion, by explaining how to effectively lead people through change. You will create an FAQs document as a guide to leave with the company managers after the training for them to reference as they begin the change management process.

You will need to include the following components into your Managing Change FAQs document for the company’s leadership team.

Instructions

  • Identify key leadership qualities/skills needed to successful manage change and explain why that are important.
  • Explain how leadership attitude, understanding, and empathy can impact the environment and culture during the change process.
  • Identify which internal and external environmental factors impacted the need for the change.
  • Assess the potential obstacles to change in the organization; including resistance and uncertainty.

ECON600

Complete your Research Project 1 in a Word document, APA formatted, and then submit it in the Assignment section of the classroom by midnight, EST, Day 7.
The instructions concerning this assignment as well as the grading rubric are reproduced below.

Pricing strategy varies significantly across different market structures. The pricing guidelines in a monopoly market are relatively straightforward. Since the company is the only producer offering the product, it can mark-up the price as far as the customer can bear. The pricing strategies for a producer operating in a perfect competition structure are also fairly intuitive. They are price takers, and hence price is set at the marginal cost of the product. This is due to the fact that there are many firms offering nearly identical products. However, there is optimal pricing for the market structures offering differentiated products with many competitors (oligopoly) or a few producers (monopolistic competition). These are much more complex and involved. It has been stated that differentiation in products that creates differences in customer valuation is the most prevalent type of competition. In such markets pricing strategies may include the three C’s of cost, competition, and customer.

Develop a paper detailing an analysis of market structures and relating pricing strategies that are suitable for each of these structures. Furthermore, include a real world example of pricing strategy for a specific company by identifying its market structure.

Your paper should be around 10 double spaced pages, in APA Format and structured as follows:

Cover page with a running head

Your paper needs to include at least three scholarly sources, i.e. peer reviewed articles. I strongly recommend the use of the APUS library for these sources, as most acceptable resources can only be found in protected databases.

PHL assignment

Reading of Choice.

750-1000 words (2-3 pgs).

For this paper, you may pick any assigned reading already covered in class. You will explain a central theory/argument from that reading (that you have not written on yet), then write your own philosophical response.

Your paper should have 3 sections; clearly label when each section begins in your paper (you may do this simply with section number or section title):

i. Intro (~ ¼ page): Introduction and brief summary of your paper. (In the intro, make sure to briefly and clearly state the main points you will address in paper; for example, could look something like “Philosopher A claimed B. I will claim C, for reasons D, E, F”)

ii. Exposition (1/2+ pg): Briefly, but clearly describe a key argument or theory from the chosen reading (which you will respond to in section 3). This section should primarily be in your own words, but include at least one key quote from the chosen reading.

iii. Your Philosophical Response (1-2 pgs): (Main section, spend most of paper on this). Give your philosophical response. Make sure you stay on topic. Do so in one of the following formats (do only one of these options):

  1. Give rational objections to the argument/theory, state why it is faulty
  2. Defend the argument from possible objections
  3. Explain how the argument can be improved, how you would change it and why
  4. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses, then your overall position

EHRs Benefits and Drawbacks

Requirements:

As discussed in the lesson and assigned reading for this week, EHRs provide both benefits and drawbacks. Create a “Pros” versus “Cons” table and include at least 3 items for each list. Next to each item, provide a brief rationale as to why you selected to include it on the respective list.

  1. Refer to the Stage 3 objectives for Meaningful Use located in this week’s lesson under the heading Meaningful Use and the HITECH Act. Select two objectives to research further. In your own words, provide a brief discussion as to how the objective may impact your role as an APN in clinical practice.

Adhere to the following guidelines regarding quality for the threaded discussions in Canvas:

  • Application of Course Knowledge: Demonstrate the ability to analyze, synthesize, and/or apply principles and concepts learned in the course lesson and outside readings.
  • Scholarliness and Scholarly Sources: Demonstrates achievement of scholarly inquiry for professional and academic decisions using valid, relevant, and reliable outside scholarly source to contribute to the discussion thread.
  • Writing Mechanics: Grammar, spelling, syntax, and punctuation are accurate. In-text and reference citations should be formatted using correct APA guidelines.
  • Direct Quotes: Good writing calls for the limited use of direct quotes. Direct quotes in discussions are to be limited to one short quotation (not to exceed 15 words). The quote must add substantively to the discussion. Points will be deducted under the grammar, syntax, APA category.

For each threaded discussion per week, the student will select no less than TWO scholarly sources to support the initial discussion post.

Scholarly Sources: Only scholarly sources are acceptable for citation and reference in this course. These include peer-reviewed publications, government reports, or sources written by a professional or scholar in the field. The textbooks and lessons are NOT considered to be outside scholarly sources. For the threaded discussions and reflection posts, reputable internet sources such as websites by government agencies (URL ends in .gov) and respected organizations (often ends in .org) can be counted as scholarly sources. The best outside scholarly source to use is a peer-reviewed nursing journal.  You are encouraged to use the Chamberlain library and search one of the available databases for a peer-reviewed journal article.  The following sources should not be used: Wikipedia, Wikis, or blogs.  These websites are not considered scholarly as anyone can add to these. Please be aware that .com websites can vary in scholarship and quality.  For example, the American Heart Association is a .com site with scholarship and quality.  It is the responsibility of the student to determine the scholarship and quality of any .com site.  Ask your instructor before using any site if you are unsure. Points will be deducted from the rubric if the site does not demonstrate scholarship or quality. Current outside scholarly sources must be published with the last 5 years.  Instructor permission must be obtained BEFORE the assignment is due if using a source that is older than 5 years.

Keep it simple

So far, we have studied what strategy is and the two major pillars. Also, we have learned generics strategies, a diamond model, and other theories (e.g., industry life cycle, economies of scale/scope…etc.).

Now, it is time to think about how we use our knowledge.

Writing questions.

Choose a firm that you are familiar with, analyze the firm’s current status, and suggest a future strategy.

Detail.

I want to see your knowledge that you have learned from this class as much as possible.

For example, when you analyze the firm and/or suggest a future strategy, you are recommended to use theories and tools that you learned. You can analyze by using the industrial level model (e.g., 5 forces model) and firm-level model (VRIO or VRIN). And other models and theories as well (e.g., types of generics strategies, industry life cycle, economies of scale/scope…etc.)

And based on this current analysis, you can suggest a future strategy, and “why”.

Also.

You can refer to a news article or the firm’s annual report, but you have to translate it into your own language/writing (simple copy and paste is not allowed).
Please leave your reference list.
For example, if you use an online news article, please leave the web address.

Important rules.

  1. All answers should address “WHY.”
  2. The minimum number of pages is 3 except for the reference list (If your writing is less than three pages, your maximum score cannot be over 15.)

The font is Times New Roman, and the size is 11 with a double space.

week 6-2

Draft Description of Target Population

In this section of the methodology, you will describe the study participants, how they provide data, how they will be recruited into the study, and any ethical considerations important to the planning of the proposed investigation.

Write your research question at the top of the post. Include the following sections:

Target Population:

  1. Describe identifying characteristics and number of individuals, dyads, groups, or units in the study.
  2. Describe your inclusion and exclusion criteria.
  3. Describe your recruitment strategy.
  4. Describe your sampling strategy.
  5. Describe ethical considerations pertinent to the protection of subject or participant vulnerabilities.
Tips:
  1. When writing about the target population, imagine that you are trying to convince a panel of experts to fund your proposed research. Have you thought about contingencies regarding the nature of the population? Do you have criteria that will support your effort to get data that is clean, free of unnecessary variables or distractions? For instance, if you are collecting data from single mothers, will it help or hinder your study to include single mothers who have a history of major depression? This kind of decision making characterizes the planning of inclusion and exclusion strategies.
  2. Quantitative and qualitative studies have different sampling designs: randomized sampling strategies are typically quantitative; purposive strategies are typically qualitative. Be sure that you know which strategies suit your research question.
  3. Recruitment refers to how participants are invited into the study. Explain your plans in a way that other researchers could follow; if the study is quantitative, others should be able to replicate your study like a recipe. If the study is qualitative, the goal is to provide a trail of evidence that another researcher could follow. The trail is presented as a resource that takes subsequent researchers through the steps that led to interpretations of findings.
  4. Ethical considerations are built on the principle that a researcher must do no harm. Privacy needs of participants, including secure data storage, must be addressed. Depending on the type of research planned, contingencies must be considered. Employees’ jobs must not be jeopardized; pseudonyms are recommended and other support strategies may be needed.

3 pages due by 12 hrs

Hi. This is just a reminder that your term paper is due on 11/27. Please don’t forget it and please don’t wait to write it at the last minute. This one carries a lot of weight in your total course score. You’ll need to thoroughly explain Deontological Ethics and Utilitarianism and explicitly apply both the categorical imperative and the hedonistic calculus. Please don’t wait!

Term Paper or Film Assignment

You may either write a paper or film yourself explaining your resolution to the moral dilemma. Both papers and films must meet the following criteria.

The Term Paper or video that you create is Due on November 25 at 11 pm.

Introduction to the Short Reading for the Term Paper

For your term paper, you’ll need to read at least the first two chapters of Jon Ronson’s book, “So You’ve been Publicly Shamed.” Your paper centers around the scenario described in Chapter 2, between Jonah Lehrer and Michael Moynihan. If you do some research, you’ll find several videos, interviews and articles about this dilemma, and, with proper citations, you are welcome to bring that information into your term paper assignment. However, no research is necessary whatsoever. You can write your term paper based solely upon the information provided in Chapter 2 of Jon Ronson’s book. In fact, there is a danger involved with doing further research and that is that you may find a lot of extraneous information that you feel compelled to bring into your term paper that actually distracts you from the purpose/focus of the term paper itself and you’ll be graded based upon the purpose/focus of the term paper as found in the grading rubric below. My advice–and I feel like Willy Wonka when I write this because Veruka still turns into a blueberry despite my protestations—is not to do any research until after you submit the term paper. This book will make you want to look up the actual videos and interviews. It is a train wreck.

Paper Topic: Was Michael Moynihan’s submission of his article morally correct or morally incorrect according to Kantian Deontological Ethics (The Categorical Imperative) and Utilitarianism (Act and Rule: Principle of Utility)?

What do you need to do for this assignment?

Papers must be typed, double spaced, size 12 font and no more than 3 pages in length. Films must be a maximum of 5 minutes long. You will not be graded based upon grammar, punctuation, oral presentation skills but you will be graded based upon the ideas communicated.

Paper Topic: Was Michael Moynihan’s submission of his article morally correct or morally incorrect according to Kantian Deontological Ethics (The Categorical Imperative) and Utilitarianism (Act and Rule: Principle of Utility)?

Tips for completing the paper or film:

Papers or films must have a clearly defined thesis statement, e.g. Michael Moynihan performs the morally correct action when he sends in his article according to ______________________ (Deontology, Utilitarianism, Act or Rule) and, yet, fails to perform the morally correct action according to ________________________ (Deontology, Utilitarianism, Act or Rule) and, ultimately, the author of this paper agrees with the _______________________ assessment of his actions. (Feel free to copy and paste this thesis into your paper or fill in the blanks and use it in your film.)

A potential template for your paper or film would be as follows:

Introduction–including thesis
Paragraph describing the dilemma (Chapter 2 in “So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed”)
Paragraph describing Utilitarianism and reasoning
Paragraph applying Utilitarian reasoning to the dilemma
Paragraph describing Kantian ethics and reasoning
Paragraph applying Kantian reasoning to the dilemma
Paragraph comparing and contrasting Utilitarianism with Kantian ethics and how they apply to the dilemma
Short paragraph stating with which reasoning do you agree and at least one GOOD reason why
Conclusion–including a restatement of the thesis and how you supported it in this paper.

Grading Rubric for Formal Essay or film:

  • Accurate description of the events of the story.
  • Accurate and thorough/non-superficial explanation of the moral theories
  • Accurate and non-superficial application of the moral theories to the events of the chapter.
  • Content and Development: Content of the paper is thorough, complete, deep and informed by the semester’s course material and by the reading from the first two chapters of “So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed.”
  • Papers are between 3 pages maximum and Films are no longer than five minutes in length.

To Record your video:

Click on “Submit Assignment” and then click “media.” Canvas will open your camera button to record. Please note: you need to be working on a computer with a camera. (I once became very frustrated trying to record a film on a computer without a camera—it don’t work. ha ha)

Grading Rubric for Formal Essay or Video Submission

**While the lower row of the grading rubric addresses issues of paper construction (Paper structure, sentence construction, grammar, spelling, etc.) this class has no content, prerequisites or corequisites for paper writing. Since this is the case, the bottom row of the grading rubic will not affect your grade. I may, as your instructor, provide some notes regarding paper structure, grammar, and spelling but these notes are merely coaching for future classes. I want you to be successful not only in my class but also in your overall academic goals. The same grading rubric will be used for grading video submissions making the necessary adjustments from written to oral work.
