Presentation on Threats to the Global Environment

Presentation on Threats to the Global Environment

Overview

Congratulations! The members of the United Nations found great value in the two analyses you provided. They are now asking you to develop a PowerPoint presentation that addresses four of the most critical threats to the global environment. Critical threats include:

  • Energy sources.
  • Globalization.
  • Lack of educational opportunities.
  • Inappropriate use of technology.
  • Civil war.
  • Poor health of entire population.
  • Cultural taboos.
  • Climate change.

Instructions

Step I. Narrow the List from Eight to the Four Most Critical Threats

To complete this step, complete the following tasks in order:

  1. Review research on each of the eight threats.
  2. Determine what you believe to be the current and potential future impacts of each threat on the global environment.
  3. Choose the four threats that you see as the most critical by considering which pose the greatest or most immediate risk.
Step II. Create the PowerPoint Presentation

The completed version of this presentation will include a minimum of 16 slides. Your audience consists of the United Nations General Assembly.

PPT Content and Structure
  1. Title Slide: Include your name, course title, current date, and the name of your instructor.
  2. Introduction Slide: List the four threats you chose, and in the Notes section offer a brief narrative justifying these choices
  3. Body Slides: The slide content is listed in the outline below. For each body slide you develop, please include a paragraph in the Notes section explaining how the details you have provided in the slide are pertinent to the United Nations’ discussion on selecting and prioritizing goals.
    1. For your first threat (this is the threat you consider to be the greatest risk/highest priority):
      • One slide on a brief history and assessment of the threat.
      • One slide on the countries most affected by the threat, and how those countries are affected (please give examples).
      • One slide on the effects of this threat on the world population as a whole.
      • One slide including a chart, graph, or compelling visual that relates to the content you present in body slides a–c.
    2. For your second threat (this is the threat you consider to be the second greatest risk/second highest priority):
      • One slide on a brief history and assessment of the threat.
      • One slide on the countries most affected by the threat, and how those countries are affected (please give examples).
      • One slide on the effects of this threat on the world population as a whole.
      • One slide including a chart, graph, or compelling visual that relates to the content you present in body slides a–c.
    3. For your third threat (this is the threat you consider to be the third greatest threat/highest priority):
      • One slide on a brief history and assessment of the threat.
      • One slide on the countries most affected by the threat, and how those countries are affected (please give examples).
      • One slide on the effects of this threat on the world population as a whole.
      • One slide including a chart, graph, or compelling visual that relates to the content you present in body slides a–c.
    4. For your fourth threat (this is the threat you consider to be the fourth greatest threat/highest priority):
      • One slide on a brief history and assessment of the threat.
      • One slide on the countries most affected by the threat, and how those countries are affected (please give examples).
      • One slide on the effects of this threat on the world population as a whole.
      • One slide including a chart, graph, or compelling visual that relates to the content you present in body slides a–c.
  4. Conclusion Slide: Summarize your findings for the Assembly.
  5. (Optional) Reference Slide: You can include full-text citations in the Notes section of each slide or provide a reference slide at the end of the presentation with the full citations of your sources.

Note:

  • Please discuss the threats in order of priority as described above, so the threat you consider the greatest should be discussed first in the presentation and so on.
  • Please use at least five credible sources to back up your discussion.
  • The body slides should summarize your key takeaways, whereas the notes section of each body slide should discuss the evidence and the details that support your takeaways. The content in both the notes and body sections requires citations and sources.

Week 2 Discussion 3 HIS206

We anticipate that this assignment will take you 2 hours to complete (this may vary by student). This includes time for research, reading of outside materials, critical thinking, writing, revision of text, and reflection on the topic. You should expect the assignment to be graded and returned with feedback from your instructor no later than Thursday at 11:59PM following the due date.

Prepare: Take a few minutes to think about the material that we’ve covered in this course so far.

Reflect Icon Reflect: Reflect on what you found interesting, surprising, or confusing in this past week. Did anything that you learned cause you to understand an issue and event differently? Have you discovered any habits or tips that help you to complete your course work more effectively or efficiently?

Write Icon

Write: This discussion forum is an opportunity for you to explore topics that interest you, share critical insights and questions that you are working with, share your struggles and triumphs, and discuss difficulties that may have arisen this week, hopefully finding solutions. Your initial post should describe your experiences in the course this past week, prompting further discussion. You should address at least two of the following questions:

  • What struck you in particular as you explored the course materials this week?
  • What insights have you had?
  • What have you been struggling with?
  • What questions have come up for you at this point?
  • Do you have any helpful tips that you’ve picked up in this course or in a past course?
  • Do you have questions about the assignment that your classmates might be able to help with? (If you have a question for the instructor, be sure to contact your instructor through email or in the Ask Your Instructor Forum).

You are required to post at least 100 total words in this forum this week. You can post one time or ten times, the only requirements are that you post at least 100 words total and that you engage in conversation related to course content. Ask questions, answer questions, provide extra resources you found that are interesting, or engage in a debate about something you learned this week. The only requirement is that your comments have to relate to the course content.

Provide a full explanation of the issues that you discuss in your posts. For example, if you write that you had difficulty finding sources for your Final Project, explain where in the process of finding sources you had difficulty. Was it choosing a database to search? Thinking of search terms? Did your search return too many sources that were not relevant to your topic? Did your search return too few results?

Taxation

The simulation problem requires you to fill out of the IRS required forms and/or schedules for a complete and accurate processable form. On these forms and/or schedules are 203 line entries or boxes that must be checked. These must be made to fill out the forms correctly. Each line is worth 1 point for a total of 203 possible points. You grade is calculated on the number of correct line entries over 203. Example (your score) 174 divided by (possible points) 203 = 85%. This will get you a 3.2 B+.

Paul J. and Judy L. Vance are married and file a joint return. Paul is self- employed as a dentist, and Judy is a college professor. Paul and Judy have two children. Paul elected to compute his cost recovery allowance using MACRS. He did not elect to use §179 immediate expensing and he chose not to claim any bonus depreciation.

Judy’s mother, Sarah, died on July 2, 2018, leaving Judy her entire estate. Included in the estate was Sarah’s residence (325 Oak Street, Cincinnati, OH 45211). Sarah’s basis in the residence was $30,000. The fair market value of the residence on July 2, 2018, was $155,000. The property was distributed to Judy on July 2, 2018. The Vances have held the property and have managed it themselves and they started renting the house to the same tenant starting January 1, 2019.To compute depreciation on the house, the Vances had allocated $15,000 of the property’s basis to the land on which the house is located. The Vances collected rent of $1,000 a month during the months the house was rented during the year.

They incurred the following related expenses during this period:

Judy is required by Xavier University to visit several high schools in the Cincinnati area to evaluate Xavier University students who are doing their practice teaching. However, she is not reimbursed for the expenses she incurs in doing this. During the spring semester (January through April 2019), she drove her personal automobile 6,800 miles in fulfilling this obligation. Judy drove an additional 6,700 personal miles during 2019. She has been using the car since June 30, 2011. Judy uses the standard mileage method to calculate her car expenses.

Paul and Judy have given you a file containing the following receipts for expenditures during the year:

Prescription medicine and drugs (net of insurance reimbursement) $376

Doctor and hospital bills (net of insurance reimbursement) $2,468

Penalty for underpayment of last year’s state income tax $15

Real estate taxes on personal residence $4,762

Interest on home mortgage (paid to Home State Savings & Loan) $8,250

Interest on credit cards (consumer purchases) $595

Physical Geography Discussion (85 words)

Topic: UV Index

As you have learned from reading this chapter. UV radiation can be very harmful to humans, regardless of your skin tone. The ozone layer helps protect us against the harmful UV rays, which is why it is so important that we protect it from CFC’s and other pollutants that deplete it.

For this discussion, you are going to determine what the UV index is for your city, review the guidelines for exposure, and reflect on if your actions are in line with the guidelines. See the specific directions below.  You only need to make one discussion post; you do not need to respond to any of your classmates.

Directions:

  1. To begin, go to the following website from the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency): https://www.epa.gov/sunsafety/uv-index-1 (Links to an external site.).
  2. Enter your zip code in the blue box at the top of the page (directions are on the page) to find out what your UV Index is. If you are not currently living in the United States, feel free to use Huntington Beach’s zip code (90742) or the zip code of your favorite location in the US.

Primary Post:

  1. Write the city and zip code of the location you entered
  2. Write the UV score you received for that day/time (1-11+)
  3. Write the corresponding Exposure Risk Category i.e., Low, Moderate, High, etc…
  4. Summarize the comments or sun protection messages associated with this UV score (located in the table provided on the website).
  5. Reflect on if you normally follow the above recommendations or not (this should be substantive: do you wear sunscreen? Are you conscious about what time of day you are outside? Do you purposely wear a hat to shade you from the sun? and if not, why not?)

No Secondary Post:

You do not need to respond to any of your classmates for this discussion.

Your response must be substantive and a minimum of 85 words for full credit. See the rubric for this discussion in the Discussion Requirements section of the orientation module.

100 words Discussion Question with # reference Due 06/8/2021 TOMORROW at 11 am sharp

G couple proteins are specialized proteins that act as a messaging system once activated inside the cells G coupled proteins can deliver messages from outside the cell to its interior. G Coupled proteins are known as guanine nucleotide-binding proteins. When G-coupled proteins are activated or in the “ON” position they are known as guanosine triphosphate (GTP), when they are disabled, they are known as guanosine diphosphate (GDP) (“GPCR | Learn science at Scitable,” n.d.). Ion gated channels are opening within the cell membrane that allow movement of ions to pass in or out of the cell delivering a rapid postsynaptic response. G coupled proteins react at a slower speed. G coupled proteins are from the largest protein family consisting of 600-1000 protein members while ion gated channels deal with about 400 genes within the human genetic make-up (“Neurotransmitter receptors – Molecular cell biology – NCBI bookshelf,” n.d.).

Explain how the role of epigenetics may contribute to pharmacologic action.

Epigenetics is the study of how genes change due the environment or behaviors epigenetics play a valuable contribution to pharmacology because it can help detect certain diseases early and through changes in gene expression epigenetics can manipulated how your body reads a DNA sequence by turning certain protein productions off or on. Allowing certain proteins to be blocked changing the chemical groups that make-up specific diseases (“What is epigenetics?” 2020).

Explain how this information may impact the way you prescribe medications to patients. Include a specific example of a situation or case with a patient in which the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner must be aware of the medication’s action.

This knowledge will greatly impact how an individual prescribes medication. It by provides information regarding the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes that are essential to provide patients with the best outcome. As an advance practice nurse, you must have knowledge in how a specific medication works, having the ability to determine how medication affect specific receptors in the body helps the practitioner with prescribing appropriate medications and dosages. Understanding that certain gene responses due to disease and illness can affect the way a medication works in the body is crucial. For instance, if you are prescribing a medication for a patient who has increased anxiety, having a full understanding that the amygdala deep inside the brain is what causes feelings of anxiety and fear will help providers prescribe medications that targets this area and slowing hyperactivity in this area of the brain in return decreasing the level of anxiety in the individual (“Pharmacogenetics: An important part of drug development with a focus on its application,” n.d.).

t Tests and ANOVA in Clinical Practice

Inferential statistics enable researchers to apply the data they gather and the conclusions they draw from a particular sample to a larger population. As the name implies, inferential statistics focus on inferring whether there is a relationship between two or more variables. These statistical analyses include t tests and analysis of variance (ANOVA). t Tests are part of a group of statistical tests that test hypotheses; in fact, it is necessary to formulate a hypothesis in order to use a t test, because the results of the test can only be interpreted in the context of a scientific hypothesis.

Inferential statistics such as t tests work well for comparing two groups. Although mathematically equivalent to the t test, ANOVA allows for the comparison of more than two groups. Therefore, when three or more groups are involved, the ANOVA should be used.

In this week’s Discussion, you are asked to locate a current research article that utilizes either a ttest or ANOVA analysis. You provide a summary of the research study and of the study’s application to evidence-based practice. You also examine the article’s use of a t test or ANOVA and how either of those statistical analysis tools helped to inform the article’s conclusions and recommendations.

To prepare:

  • Consider some of the important issues in health care delivery or nursing practice today. Bring to mind the topics to which you have been exposed through previous courses in your program of study, as well as any news items that have caught your attention recently. Select one topic to consider for this Discussion.
  • Next, review journal, newspaper, and Internet articles that provide credible information on your topic. Then, select one research article on which to focus that used inferential statistical analysis (either a t test or ANOVA) to study the topic.
  • With information from the Learning Resources in mind, evaluate the purpose and value of the research study discussed in your selected article and consider the following questions:
    • Who comprised the sample in this study?
    • What were the sources of data?
    • What inferential statistic was used to analyze the data collected (t test or ANOVA)?
    • What were the findings?
  • Ask yourself: How did using an inferential statistic bring value to the research study? Did it increase the study’s application to evidence-based practice?

By Day 3

Post a cohesive response that addresses the following:

  • Identify the topic you selected in the first line of your posting.
  • Summarize the study discussed in your selected research article and provide a complete APA citation. Include in your summary the sample, data sources, inferential statistic utilized, and findings.
  • Evaluate the purpose and value of this particular research study to the topic.
  • Did using inferential statistics strengthen or weaken the study’s application to evidence-based practice?
