In my work with clients, while I have most often used topography-based definitions of behavior, function-based definitions have definitely been a useful tool as well. According to Cooper et al. (2020), it is important for the behavior analyst to understand the difference between these two ways of defining behavior, and what the particular strengths and limitations are for each. Additionally, these authors caution against using topography alone to target behaviors for change (Cooper et al., 2020). According to the Professional and Ethical Code for Behavior Analysts (BACB, 2020), behavior analysts must first conduct a functional assessment (Code 3.01 Behavior-Analytic Assessment). This requires behavior analysts to consider contextual variables in determining socially significant behaviors of concern as the targets for intervention and treatment; code 2.09 which requires treatment and intervention efficacy supports this as well as other codes such as 4.03 (BACB, 2020).

In contrast to function-based definitions, topographical definitions describe how behaviors look (describe their topography) in objective and measurable terms that identify behaviors by their shape or form, by the way they look and appear to the outside observer (Cooper et al., 2020). Topography-based definitions are most useful to describe all instances of a response class by its form when the behavior’s impact on the environment varies, is unknown, or when other behaviors produce the same impact on the environment (Cooper et al., 2020). A topographical definition could be used to describe a client’s avoidant behaviors by the way it looks: “Avoidant behaviors are denoted by any instance of Johnny looking away from the paper, interrupting contact of the pencil from the paper for more than 3 seconds, engaging in alternative behaviors where his line of vision wanders from the page and rests on an alternative object for more than 2 seconds, yelling, screaming, rocking, and getting up from his desk.” In this description, various forms the behavior can take are described, based on the way the behaviors look. Fisher et al. (2020), in their study teaching ABA skills to parents of children with autism, operationally defined target behaviors topographically. For example, they defined aggression as “lightly hitting or kicking the parent with their body or objects.”

Function-based definitions of behavior describe behaviors by their consequences on the environment (Cooper et al., 2020). Function-based definitions are useful to describe behaviors when the consequence of the behavior on the environment is understood and when it remains consistent across all targeted responses (Cooper et al., 2020). In a functional definition, the outcome or function of the behavior is the most relevant detail to discern the behavior from other alternatives. For example, a functional definition of avoidant behavior might describe it as follows: “Avoidant behavior is defined by every instance where a request or prompt is not attempted or executed to completion.” In this example, the behavior in question is defined by its function and its consequences on the environment, rather than its form or how it looks. As this example demonstrates, a benefit of a functional definition is its conciseness relative to a topographical definition.

“Analyzing complex ethics cases require special consideration by behavior analysts (Baliey&Burch, 2016).” Scenario one explains ABA practitioner dilemma of understanding the ethical codes of ABA in seeking what is right or wrong. She explained that the agency she worked for billed for behavioral services but performed a different type of service. She also stated that family did not report wrongful billing due to service provider continuing another service with client. In using the seven-step model to help this practitioner in viewing properly what to do in her case is step one: identifying if the incidents is covered by the ethics which is defined in codes (1.0-1.04, 2.05,2.09, 2.12 and 2.13)- responsibility to clients (BACB. 2020).

Step two involves the “players” which include the practitioner, client, family, and company. This team involves everyone that is organized in the client’s situation. Third step is the contingency plan, “a thoughtful and strategic analysis of what to do in the event that your first action was unsuccessful (Bailey & Burch, 2016).” Plan A is considered that the ABA practitioner to notify BCBA about wrongful documentation. Plan B is considered to possibly inform the family of their child’s rights and their rights as advocates for their child in receiving in proper therapy as well as, correct billing information. Step fourth mentions skills and clot, which allows behavior analyst to hold a set of essential skills and makes them happen. The fifth step is the risk; this explains the possibility of the practitioner failing to act in doing what right or wrong in following respectful content with self, client, and others. The sixth step is describes the implementation; which means be to continue to execute information efficiently as possible. The last step to assist with this scenario is the evaluation. Note taking information on ethical cases that have been confronted can help with future ethical dilemmas. (Bailey & Burch, 2016)

Assignment – Plagiarism, Research Methods, and Citation

Assignment – Plagiarism, Research Methods, and Citation

Submit Assignment

READ:

Many of you are taking this course because you plan to attend college or university. It is important to avoid plagiarism at all levels of school, but it is extremely important to avoid it in college. Colleges/universities will give you a zero for the entire course when you plagiarize, even if you’ve done it by accident, and some will expel you or leave a permanent comment on your academic record.

Why is plagiarism taken so seriously? It is theft from the original author, which is unethical and sometimes illegal. And it prevents the person who is plagiarizing from having the intended learning experience. If you plagiarize, you are robbing others of their work and you are robbing yourself of a full education.

In this lesson, you will learn exactly what plagiarism is, and you will learn some research and study techniques to help you avoid it.

What is plagiarism?

Adapted from UCDenver. Read more (Links to an external site.).

Plagiarism is the use of another person’s ideas or words without acknowledgment. It is important to understand that even ideas can be plagiarized – changing the wording of someone else’s work is not enough to avoid plagiarism.

The incorporation of another person’s work into one’s own requires appropriate identification and acknowledgment, called citation. All of the following are considered plagiarism, if there is no citation:

· Word-for-word copying of another person’s ideas or words.

· Adding or changing some words from another person’s work and submitting it as your own.

· Rewriting another person’s work, yet still using their fundamental idea or theory.

· Submitting another person’s work as one’s own.

When you have been asked to do research and to use that research in forming your own response, how then can you avoid plagiarism?

1. By following proper research methods

2. By providing citations for every use of another person’s ideas or writing

Proper research methods:

When you are doing research, you should have two documents open: the one you are reading and one where you can write. These can be electronic or paper documents, as you prefer.

As you read from the source you have chosen, you should be thinking about its main points. It can be helpful to stop after every few paragraphs and ask yourself, “what is being said?” Those main points are what you should be writing down in your own document. For example, if you read the paragraph included in the left column below, you might take the notes that you see in the right column:

HI150 Automation of Health Information

This is a graded Discussion. To review the grading rubric, go to Course Resources/Grading Rubrics.

Globalization and Information Research

Purpose

This assignment is intended to give you an opportunity to strengthen your skills in gathering and analyzing business-related information. It provides a deeper understanding of how companies can look at globalization as part of their strategic and operational plans. The assignment has two parts: one focused on information research and analysis, and the other is on applied analytics.

Resources:

Part 1: Globalization and Information Research

Context: Companies that perform well in their country of origin usually consider expanding operations in new international markets. Deciding where, how, and when to expand is not an easy task, though.

Many issues need to be considered before crafting an expansion strategy and investing significant resources to this end, including:

  • the level of demand to be expected for the company’s products/services
  • presence of local competitors
  • the regulatory, economic, demographic, and political environments

Carefully researching and analyzing these and other factors can help mitigate the inherent risk associated with an overseas expansion strategy, thus increasing the likelihood of success.

As a data analyst in your company’s business development department, you’ve been tasked with the responsibility of recommending countries for international expansion. You’ll write a report to the company’s executive team with your research, analysis, and recommendations.

Instructions:

Write a 525-word summary covering the following items:

  • According to the article listed above, what were the most important strategic moves that propelled Netflix’s successful international expansion?
  • The article mentions investments in big data and analytics as one of the elements accompanying the second phase of overseas expansion. Why was this investment important? What type of information did Netflix derive from the data collected?
  • According to the article, what is exponential globalization?
  • Not all international expansion strategies are a resounding success, however. Research an article or video that discusses an instance in which an American company’s expansion efforts in another country failed. According to the article/video you selected, what were the main reasons for this failure? Do you agree with this assessment?
  • Explain some of the reasons why certain companies’ expansion plans have failed in the past.

Part 2: Hypothesis testing

Context: Your organization is evaluating the quality of its call center operations. One of the most important metrics in a call center is Time in Queue (TiQ), which is the time a customer has to wait before he/she is serviced by a Customer Service Representative (CSR). If a customer has to wait for too long, he/she is more likely to get discouraged and hang up. Furthermore, customers who have to wait too long in the queue typically report a negative overall experience with the call. You’ve conducted an exhaustive literature review and found that the average TiQ in your industry is 2.5 minutes (150 seconds).

Another important metric is Service Time (ST), also known as Handle Time, which is the time a CSR spends servicing the customer. CSR’s with more experience and deeper knowledge tend to resolve customer calls faster. Companies can improve average ST by providing more training to their CSR’s or even by channeling calls according to area of expertise. Last month your company had an average ST of approximately 3.5 minutes (210 seconds). In an effort to improve this metric, the company has implemented a new protocol that channels calls to CSR’s based on area of expertise. The new protocol (PE) is being tested side-by-side with the traditional (PT) protocol.

Instructions:

Access the Call Center Waiting Time file. Each row in the database corresponds to a different call. The column variables are as follows:

  • ProtocolType: indicates protocol type, either PT or PE
  • QueueTime: Time in Queue, in seconds
  • ServiceTime: Service Time, in seconds
  • Perform a test of hypothesis to determine whether the average TiQ is lower than the industry standard of 2.5 minutes (150 seconds). Use a significance level of α=0.05.
  • Evaluate if the company should allocate more resources to improve its average TiQ.
  • Perform a test of hypothesis to determine whether the average ST with service protocol PE is lower than with the PT protocol. Use a significance level of α=0.05.
  • Assess if the new protocol served its purpose. (Hint: this should be a test of means for 2 independent groups.)
  • Submit your calculations and a 175-word summary of your conclusions.

Assessing and Treating Pediatric Patients With Mood Disorders

When pediatric patients present with mood disorders, the process of assessing, diagnosing, and treating them can be quite complex. Children not only present with different signs and symptoms than adult patients with the same disorders, they also metabolize medications much differently. Yet, there may be times when the same psychopharmacologic treatments may be used in both pediatric and adult cases with major depressive disorders. As a result, psychiatric nurse practitioners must exercise caution when prescribing psychotropic medications to these patients. For this Assignment, as you examine the patient case study in this week’s Learning Resources, consider how you might assess and treat pediatric patients presenting with mood disorders.

To prepare for this Assignment:

  • Review this week’s Learning Resources, including the Medication Resources indicated for this week.
  • Reflect on the psychopharmacologic treatments you might recommend for the assessment and treatment of pediatric patients requiring antidepressant therapy.

Defining goals

Learning Objectives

  • Explain how time management plays a factor in goal setting, leading to short-term, medium-term, and long-term objectives

Directions

  • Review the worksheet below, and fill in the blank sections to the best of your ability.

Guidelines

  • Phrase goals as positive statements: Affirm your excitement and enthusiasm about attaining a goal by using positive language and expectations.
  • Be exacting: Set a precise goal that includes dates, times, and amounts, so that you have a basis for measuring how closely you achieve your goals.
  • Prioritize: Select your top goals, and put them in order of importance. This helps you understand the degree to which you value each of them. It will also help you better manage related tasks and not feel overwhelmed.
  • Assume you are the captain of your ship: Identify goals that are linked to your own performance, not dependent on the actions of other people or situations beyond your control.
  • Be realistic but optimistic and ambitious: The goals you set should be achievable, but sometimes it pays to reach a little higher than what you may think is possible. Certainly don’t set your goals too low.
  • Be hopeful, excited, and committed: Your enthusiasm and perseverance can open many doors!

Examples of Long-Term Academic Goals

  • I plan to graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. My major will be Radio-Television-Film, and my minor will be Spanish.
  • I plan to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service degree with a major in international history.
  • I plan to attain an associate’s degree in nursing (ADN).

Examples of Medium-Term or Short-Term Academic Goals:

  • I would like to study abroad in Spain before I graduate.
  • I want to get involved in a service-learning project in my community, as part of my preparation for eventual service work.
  • I plan to join the student government organization so that I can gain some experience at the community college where I take classes part-time.

Additional immediate goals might be applying for financial aid, getting a part-time job, taking a short leave of absence, speaking with a counselor, etc.

You may wish to use an academic planning worksheet to help you identify courses and terms. Here is a sample from the Penn State Eberly College of Science: Blank Academic Plan.

Assignment 4 – Forecasting Methods

1. (6 points) Moving Average Forecasting

– In Excel, create three different moving average forecasts with periods of 2, 3, and 5 (k = 2, 3, 5). Compute the mean squared error (MSE) from each of these forecasts.

– Create a simple table that reports the MSEs and the forecasted stock price for May 2021 for each of the variations (k = 2, 3, 5). Discuss what the results tell us about the accuracy of these forecasts, and which forecast you have the most confidence in.

2. (6 points) Exponential Smoothing

– In Excel, create two different exponential smoothing forecasts, one with α = 0.25 and one with α = 0.75. Compute the MSE from each of these forecasts.

– Create a simple table that reports the MSEs and the forecasted stock price for May 2021 for each of the variations (α = 0.25, 0.75). Discuss what the results tell us about the accuracy of these forecasts, and which forecast you have more confidence in.

– Compare the moving average and exponential smoothing results.

3. (6 points) Forecasting with a Linear Trend

– Create a trend variable (t) that has a value of 1 in January 2016, 2 in February 2016, and so on.

– Run a regression with t as your independent variable and Netflix’s stock price as the dependent variable.

– Interpret the coefficient on the trend variable.

– Compare the accuracy of this linear trend model with the models from questions 1 and 2.

– What does the trend model forecast Netflix’s stock price will be at the end of 2021 (December 2021)?

4. (5 points) Graphing your Trend Forecast

– Using the results from your linear trend model in question 3, create a forecast through the end of 2022.

– Create a line graph that shows the actual data through April 2021, and then the forecast through 2022. Make sure the forecast portion is differentiated on the graph (by color and/or dashed line).

– Discuss how you feel about the accuracy of the linear trend model based on the graph.

5. (7 points) Seasonality in Netflix Stock Price?

– Create dummy variables for Quarters 2, 3, and 4 in the year. Quarter 2 is April to June, 3 is July to September, and 4 is October to December.

– Run a regression with the dummies for quarters 2, 3, and 4 and the linear trend (t) variable that we used in questions 3 and 4.

– Interpret the coefficients on the quarter dummy variables. Is there evidence that there is seasonality in Netflix’s stock price?

– What does this trend with the seasonality model forecast Netflix’s stock price will be at the end of 2021 (December 2021)?

– Overall, was it a good idea to include the seasonal component in our forecasting model (as compared to the model with just the trend in Question 3)?

6. (6 points) Autoregression

– Run a regression where you use a 1-period lag of the Netflix stock price as the independent variable.

– What does this model predict the price will be at the end of May 2021?

– Discuss the results of this regression model. How does the forecast accuracy of this model compare to the previous models?

7. (4 points) Summarize your work to this point

– Discuss the various methods used to try and forecast the price of Netflix stock going forward. Which do you place more trust in, which do you disregard?

– Based on your analysis so far, and anything else you want to incorporate, if you are forced to forecast one number for the price of Netflix stock at the end of May 2021, what would that number be? Explain briefly.

Note: for the rest of the assignment, you should cut the sample to the period of January 2019 through April 2021 (28 observations)

8. (8 points) Using the data from January 2019 to April 2021 (28 observations), examine the fit of different trend models.

– First, run a simple linear trend model in which t = 1 in January 2019, 2 in February 2019, and so on.

– Using the prediction equation from the linear trend model, create a graph that shows the actual and predicted values (trend line) for the period of January 2019 to April 2021.

– Next, run a cubic trend model. This model should include the linear trend variable (t), as well as the squared and cubed versions of t.

– Using the prediction equation from the cubic trend model, create a graph that shows the actual and predicted values (trend line) for the period of January 2019 to April 2021.

– Based on the statistical results and the graphs you created discuss the fit of these two models. Which does a better job of matching the actual trends in the data?

9. (7 points) Forecasting with our different trend models

– Use the prediction equations for the linear and cubic trend models to forecast each through the end of 2022. On one chart shows the actual Netflix stock price from January 2019 through April 2021, then the forecast paths for each of the trend models. (NOTE: this graph should not have the predicted trend lines from January 2019 to April 2021 like the graphs in question 8 had. This should be a “forecast” graph as we did in question 4).

– What does each model predict the price will be at the end of 2021 (December 2021)?

– Between the accuracy measures and your graphs in questions 8 and 9, which of the two models do you feel more comfortable using to forecast the price of Netflix stock going forward? Explain.

Case Project 13-7: Lake Point Security Consulting

“Lake Point Consulting Services (LPCS) provides security consulting and assurance services to over 500 clients across a wide range of enterprises in more than 20 states. A new initiative at LPCS is for each of its seven regional offices to provide internships to students who are in their final year of the security degree program at the local college.

Predish Real Estate and Auction (PREA) buys and sells high-end residential and commercial real estate across a multistate region. One of the tools that PREA offers is a sophisticated online website that allows potential buyers to take virtual tours of properties. However, PREA’s site was recently compromised by attackers who defaced the site with malicious messages, causing several customers to threaten to withdraw their listings. PREA’s senior management has demanded a top-to-bottom review of their security by an independent third party. LPCS has been hired to perform the review, and they have contracted with you to work on this project.

  1. The first task is to perform a vulnerability assessment of PREA. Create a PowerPoint presentation for the president and his staff about the steps in a vulnerability assessment. List in detail the actions under each step and what PREA should expect in the assessment. Your presentation should contain at least 10 slides” (Ciampa, 605).

Carefully read the case project statement and step number 1 to ensure you cover all of the requested topics. Refer to the information given in the Module 4 assignment that was similar to this for reminders about how to create good presentations. Remember to use the speaker’s notes (this is especially important as I will not see you give this presentation. I need to know what you will say if you were in front of an audience), few bulleted items on the screen, and applicable graphics (charts, graphs, clipart) to make the presentation interesting. You should have an introduction slide, a conclusion slide, and a slide for the list of your sources, along with any content slides needed to get your point across. Information technology specialists always need to be prepared to talk about technology to those who are not versed in the subject. This assignment gives you practice in doing just that.
