Review Chapter 2 and then read the scenario below.

Scenario

Suzan has worked for Organization ABC for one year. During her 30-day review, Suzan received amazing scores from her supervisor. During her 60-day review, Suzan’s performance was deemed as acceptable, but her ability to communicate with her colleagues was lacking. During Suzan’s 90-day review, Suzan’s supervisor, at the time, expressed that her performance needed serious improvements. Unfortunately, Suzan’s supervisor noted the following:

1. Suzan      did not provide her colleagues with messages from customers and vendors.
2. Suzan’s      phone skills were ineffective, especially when interacting with customers.
3. Suzan’s      temper was a concern and she often raised her voice when she became      frustrated.

You have been hired to replace Suzan’s previous supervisor. Between Suzan’s 90-day review and presently (her annual review), you have noticed that Suzan’s performance still is a problem. Before her departure from the organization, Suzan’s past supervisor stated, “Suzan is nice; however, she is a horrible communicator. I cannot work with her, as she is such a challenge to deal with… Good luck, as Suzan is one of the worst employees of Organization ABC.”

During your first week in your new role as supervisor, you met with Suzan to understand more about her performance. She stated, “I am a hard worker; however, I only was told what I was doing wrong. I am willing to learn. Can you help me become the best employee for Organization ABC? I want to succeed in this role.”

As a supervisor, you know that you have various responsibilities. One of your responsibilities is to address performance deficiencies. Although Suzan was provided with a job description, which included detailed information about the critical nature of communication in her role, she needs additional support.

Examine pages 79 and 80 in your textbook. Then, create a plan, specific to Suzan’s needs, detailing how you will utilize the following to ensure improved performance:

1. Observation      and documentation
2. Updates
3. Feedback
4. Resources
5. Reinforcement

For example, when thinking about observation and documentation, what might you do to keep track of Suzan’s performance? Why? When thinking about updates, how will you keep Suzan updated? Explain and justify your rationale for each of the five components and why you made the recommendations that you provided.

Your well-written paper should meet the following requirements:

• 6      pages in length, which does not include the title and reference pages.
• APA      style guidelines.
• Support      your submission with course material concepts, principles and theories      from the textbook and at least two scholarly, peer-reviewed      journal articles.

• Government: mismanagement of funds, ethical violations, lack of response or preparedness, conflicting parties

Note. You must use your chosen critical event in all subsequent weekly assignments. 

Write a 1,150- to 1,400-word paper.

Select a real world organization that is similar to your selected organization that encountered a similar crisis. Describe how the real-world company/organization managed its crisis. 

Define each of the following concepts. Then explain how each would affect your organization ‘during a crisis.

• Interpersonal communication ethics
• Perceptions of power
• Communication during conflict
• Intercultural and diversity conflict
• Communication climate

Identify and describe two communication theories that would be relevant to your organization during its crisis. Explain how each one ties-in to your organization.

Describe what communication strategies would be most effective to overcome the negative consequences of the crisis and turn the situation into a positive outcome.

Include a minimum six sources, of which four are academic sources. Consider using textbooks/resources that you have used in your degree program. Most textbooks are not academic sources because they are not peer-reviewed.

Students must analyze the use of the following social media tools:

The best reports will be factual and analytical. There is no room for personal feelings or emotional response. Think of this report as the type of report created by a social media consultancy firm before a first meeting with a client. The goal is to assess where the client is in terms of their social media use while providing a sense of what the firm would/could do for them if they were to hire it.

The report should include the following sections (TIP: Follow the sections below as an outline and write your report with the specific sections!)

1. Introduction: Introduce the company and what it is that they do and why social media is important to their business; HINT: Look at the industry they operate within as well as norms/standards for social media use in that industry (1/2-1 page)
2. Overall summary of social media use: Briefly summarize the company’s history with social media and current use of social media along with the overall strategic focus from one or several of the above purposes: Can you identify who manages social media for the business (marketing department, outside social media advertising firm etc.)?  Are they using the different tools like Twitter, Instagram Pinterest etc. in ways that are unique or duplicative (of other companies or competitors or even of other platforms—in other words are they saying the same uninspired things over and over again across platform or are they unique voce that adapts to the platform/medium?
3. How are they leverage each tool for best effect/impression? (1/2-1 page)
4. Use of each listed tool (6): List how each tool is used; provide examples; infer the primary purpose from those listed above (1/2-3/4 page each tool; 3 pages total)
5. Assessment and recommendations: Assess overall social media use. Make at least three recommendations based upon your assessment and research; HINT: Consider a Social Media SWOT analysis that looks at strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats associated with the firm’s use of social media which might points towards recommendations. (2 pages)
6. References: Demonstrate that you used appropriate materials. I cannot imagine producing a report of this kind without citing at least 5-7 short trade publication or magazine articles/websites about social media marketing generally as well as the brand itself. (1/2 page)

 

For this assignment, you need to visit the National Archives DOCSTeach site. Historians typically use two types of materials, secondary source, and primary source documents. Secondary sources are typically books and articles written on a particular historical event, well after the fact. Primary source documents are usually generated by first-hand participants. Good historians rely heavily on original materials created at the time of the event. For this reason, historians spend a good deal of time at the archives. There are many types of archives, but by far, the largest in the United States, is the National Archives in Washington, D.C.

The National Archives contains more than 10 billion documents, and they have collected thousands of those in the National Archives DOCSTeach site. After you have opened the above link, click on “Menu” on the upper left, and then “Documents.” In the “Keyword” box type in the subject you wish to research. Please remember that your topic should fall within the period of history covered by this course. Typical keywords might be something like Jefferson, American Revolution, Madison, Civil War, Lincoln or any number of topics.

After your images have appeared, you need to select five (5) of them that are relevant to your topic. In the upper right hand corner, just above your image, there is an icon to save that image. You will also note that below each image there is some information about that document as well as full citation.

There are two ways that you can complete this assignment. Once you have collected your documents, you can create a PowerPoint, or use them as evidence for writing a 3-5 page essay. Naturally, you will need some other information, and you can gather that through the internet, or other books and articles. As a precaution, avoid using textbooks.

1.  PowerPoint Presentation: To complete the powerpoint you will need to collect your documents from the site. All documents must be cited, so be certain to note the citation at the bottom of each image.

1. Must include a minimum of five slides.
2. Presentation must include a narrative that explains the historical significance. There are a few ways to do this, but Powerpoint does have a dialogue box that is available at the bottom of each slide. You can also do this in the slide itself. It is not sufficient to have five slides with an unrelated narrative. Instead, your slides should follow a well-organized argument that begins with a thesis statement on the first slide.
