Discussion assignment>>>> (Management Principles for Health Information Management)

 Subject: Management Principles for Health Information Management)

Research one of the following professional organizations; AAPC, ACHE, ACDIS, AHA, AHIMA, AMA, AMIA, HFMA, HIMSS, MGMA, NAHAM, NAHQ, NCRA, or another which applies to your current or future healthcare discipline.  Post Parts I & II in your initial response and respond/reply to at least one classmate in the discussion forum.

PART I – Within your initial discussion or post, comment on the following items:
• Provide insight on how this organization can provide guidance to your profession.
• Discuss whether or not you would join this organization and explain why.
• Explain how you think the members of this organization might be competitors for roles traditionally held by your profession/discipline.

PART II – Leadership in your profession means being involved.  Most of you are located in New Jersey, although some are in other states.

For those of you in the HIM program when you join AHIMA, you are automatically a member of your state association as well (NJHIMA for most).  There are also local/regional associations focused on different parts of each state.

For students in the Health Science program investigate local associations which apply to your healthcare discipline.

  • Find what local/regional association is closest to you
  • Give one idea of how you can get involved at the state or local/regional association

This activity will help you engage others with your vision of the future. Developing a compelling vision, one that is inspirational and makes people want to act, may seem impossible. This activity will help you see that you have the basic skills necessary to create a compelling vision. If you want to be successful, you only need to practice!

For this assignment, follow these steps:

  • Think about a place where you have gone on vacation and would love to return with friends.
  • Close your eyes and think about the place: what do you feel, hear, taste, or smell? What makes you smile about the place? Open your eyes and jot down some notes about what you experienced.
  • Record yourself presenting an impassioned invitation to join you on vacation in a two-minute video and share it in the discussion board in Blackboard. Do not read it; it should be extemporaneous! NOTE: You must use the YuJa Software Station to record and share your video recording. See Getting Started with YuJa for more information.
  • Review your peers’ videos and vote for the one who best convinced you to go on vacation with them by responding to their post, telling them why you would choose to go on vacation with them. Please do not vote for yourself.

Week 5 Discussions: Parenting older children

Week 5 Discussions: Parenting older children

Previous Next

Consider the following scenario:

You are a working single parent of a 16-year-old son and a 13-year-old daughter. Your son has an 11 PM curfew on weekends, but recently, he has been ignoring curfew and coming home after midnight. When you try to address this with him, he either ignores you or gets angry and starts screaming at you. When he’s at home, he tends to shut himself away in his room. His latest report card shows that his grades are slipping. You are getting very concerned, but you work full-time and parent by yourself, so you are getting frustrated as well.

At the same time, your daughter has been telling you that she doesn’t feel well and doesn’t want to go to school. After some prodding, she shared that she has been getting teased at school and bullied online.

After reviewing the learning resources for this week, come up with a strategy for dealing with your children that is supported by the literature on adolescent discipline. What are some of the things that you need to take into consideration? What actions would you implement to try and address the problematic behaviors you are witnessing? What actions would you avoid?

For this discussion, an excellent response will be well written and at least 2-3 paragraphs in length, incorporating at least 3 of the learning resources provided. You may also include other resources that you find outside of the classroom. Remember to use in-text citations and a reference list to identify the ideas that you learned from your sources. Any idea that came from something you read must be cited. When in doubt, cite it!

marketing plan

Throughout this course, you will compile a comprehensive marketing plan using one of the product/service scenarios listed below. (Note: You will use the same scenario throughout the course.) This scenario will be the basis of your start-up company and will be the catalyst for the three parts of the marketing plan that you will compose in Units II (Part I), IV (Part II), and VII (Part III). The company that you choose to submit a marketing plan for is a fictional start-up company (not an existing company). Scenarios for your start-up company are explained below. (Note that these descriptions are basic, and you will need to be creative and develop the business idea/model for your selected scenario.)

Scenario #1 Travel Supreme is a start-up travel organization with the mission of assisting customers with travel planning. While today’s customers enjoy developing their vacations themselves, Travel Supreme believes there are travel services that are still in demand. Initial research needs to develop what types of travel services are in demand by this target market. ( you will use this scenario)

Include an introduction/overview of the company. This section of the marketing plan should introduce the company and business model along with a brief description of the products/services. Discuss market research strategies. This section of the marketing plan should discuss the research strategies that will be used by your company to understand the target market(s), industry, competition, and/or any other aspects of the company that will provide valuable insight into profitable operations. Describe the macro environment through a political, economic, social, and technological (PEST) analysis. In this section, you will compile a PEST analysis of your company. You will analyze how the changes in the macro environment as described in the PEST will impact the company and, specifically, the marketing decisions. Ensure you provide an introduction for this assignment that is engaging and provides a clear background to the purpose of the assignment. The format of the submission should be in essay format using subheadings. Use APA format. Additionally, you need to include a minimum of five sources, three of which must be peer-reviewed, academic sources that are no more than 5 years old. The submission should be a minimum of three pages in length (not counting the title and reference pages)

Assignment: Immersion Project—Identify a Culture

This is the first Assignment of many in the coming weeks that will help you complete your Immersion Project. For this Assignment, you will identify a culture to focus on for your project. Keep in mind that the term “culture” is not limited to a particular race or ethnicity but is much broader and includes gender, age, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, physical ability, religion, political affiliations, immigration status, military membership, etc. It would be wise to select a culture that you know little about, one that you anticipate encountering often in your work as an advanced human services professional practitioner, and one that you are able to access through planned activities in your community (e.g., religious service, festival, exhibit, etc.).

To Prepare

  • Select a culture to focus on for your Immersion Project that is different from the culture(s) with which you identify. You may select a culture that is discussed in this week’s Learning Resources or one that is not.
  • Find an activity of the culture that you could observe before Day 7 of Week 4.
  • Consider how the culture you select is different from the culture(s) with which you identify.
  • Reflect on your current perceptions of the culture you selected.

Submit a 1- to 2-page paper that addresses the following:

  • Identify the culture you will focus on for your Immersion Project and the activity of the culture you plan on observing (e.g., attend a religious service; take a tour of the group’s community; or attend a gathering, festival, culture-themed play, tour, or exhibit). Explain how this culture is different from the culture(s) with which you identify. Differences should include both the obvious (visible differences, etc.) and the not so obvious (religious beliefs, sexual orientation, etc.).
  • Explain your current perceptions of this culture. Your perceptions should include what you were told about this culture as you were growing up (if anything), what your sources of information about this culture have been in the past, and why you have an interest in this culture.

Discussion 1: Coping With Grief and Loss

Discussion 1: Coping With Grief and Loss

In film, there are many depictions of war, loss, and grief, but it in no way can it encapsulate every aspect of loss. Military families are susceptible to loss and multiple losses at that (e.g., loss of a limb, loved one, or a relationship). Therefore, helping professionals need to understand the types and depths of losses military families can experience. In addition, they need to understand how to approach military families who are grieving.

Grief is the response to loss and it can be very intense and very painful; the more significant the loss the greater the grief. Smaller losses also can lead to grief, such as moving or retiring. Military families also can experience ambiguous loss, such as a family member who is missing in action.

For this Discussion, think for a moment about all the changes, experiences, and losses a military family may experience in military life. As a helping professional, consider what you should know about losses for military families and how you can best support them through the lens of your specialization.

Post a description of a type of loss specific to military families. Explain what you might need to consider in dealing with a military spouse or family members dealing with this type of loss. Provide one coping strategy you might recommend to deal with this type of loss. Cite a scholarly resource to support your response.

4-1 Final Project Milestone Four: Draft of Evaluation Plan

   Instructions

Submit your draft of Evaluation Plan (Section V). In this section, indicate the specific goals and milestones of implementation. Identify which quality measures and strategies will be used to indicate whether the solution is effective. Specify your data collection method and how data will be analyzed. Keep in mind that data will be recorded using Excel.

Steps for Development (Try to do at least one of these steps each day throughout the week to help you complete this milestone):

  • Begin by formulating a discussion on the specific goals and milestones of implementation of the initiative. Be sure to lay out your goals in a clear, obtainable fashion and to ensure that progress milestones are clear, reasonable, and consistent.
  • Provide specific definitions of measures of progress towards obtaining the intended goals and a description of the tools that you would use to measure progress. What strategies will be used to measure success, and how will adjustments be made should progress towards these goals fall short or change?
  • How do you intend to collect and analyze information to ascertain stakeholder satisfaction with the initiative? What information will be looked at, and who are the stakeholders that will be considered?

For additional details, please refer to the Milestone Four Guidelines and Rubric document and the Final Project Guidelines and Rubric document.

journal

 Find a recent article in the Wall Street Journal (or other reputable news source) that discusses an operational win or challenge that a company has gone through which has had a significant impact on its business. In selecting your article:

a. Do not limit your search to organizations in any particular sector. Remember that best practices are everywhere if you are willing to look for them.

 b. Identify the wins/challenges that connect to one of the topics we covered in the first four (4) weeks of the course for your first submission and then Weeks 5 through 8 for your second submission.

 c. You may select the same organization for both submissions, or you may select a different organization for your second submission.

 2. In the “Operations Management in Action” forum link found in Week 4 and Week 8 of the course, submit an original post in which you:

 a. Write a brief introductory “executive summary” identifying the organization, the challenge and the current state of affairs. Remember to include a link to the article for easy reference

b. Explain which Operations Management practice this article is most closely associated with

 c. Summarize the problem and the impact that the tools had (or could have had) in addressing it

d. Explain how this example can be used as a lesson in your organization to either point to an area of opportunity for a similar win, or to warn of a potential risk that could have significant impact on your business, if left unaddressed

  4. Remember, there is no “right” or “wrong” answer to this assignment, just your ability to articulate your opinion in the proper reaction paper format.

Reaction Paper FormatIntroductionThe purpose of responding to a reaction statement is to enhance critical thinking skills. Your objective in writing a response to the designated statement is to “…define an issue clearly and to formulate and clarify your position on that issue by reacting to a controversial statement” ( Johnson, Rettig, Scott, and Garrison, 2002, p. 127). In this exercise, there are four essential elements to be completed:

  1. Define the issue announced in the statement;
  2. Clearly state your position with regard to the statement;
  3. Defend your position; and
  4. Conclude your reaction.

Details

  1. Defining the Issue – As you examine the statement, what is the most critical element presented? In this case, is it equality of sentencing? Is it the gender of those being sentenced? Does it imply that women and men commit different types of crimes? Is it the scarcity of prison space that is the controlling condition? As you define the issue(s) in the statement, provide some clarity for yourself that allows you to establish a clear position.
  2. Clearly State your Position on the Issue – There should be no doubt where you stand on the issue. Perhaps you believe that “Scarce prison space is too valuable to expend on women prisoners convicted of only property crimes.” Or, you might believe “It is equal justice under the law that makes the U.S. criminal justice system work. Women offenders deserve equality of sentencing under all circumstances!” Your position should be capable of being stated in a short paragraph that includes a clear statement of your position such as those found above.
  3. Defend your Position – Here is where the “rubber hits the road.” The traction and credibility of your position rest in large measure on how well you support your stance. To best support your position:
  • Identify the most important arguments needed to support your position and state them clearly (if you are using another source, make sure you are citing it properly in your response so that it may be verified);
  • Facts, facts, facts win the day, so use plenty of facts and information to support your stand; and
  • Be logical, accurate, and clear in the presentation of your facts.

           4.  Conclude Concisely –  This exercise will conclude with one and no more than two paragraphs that will summarize your argument and position. It should be persuasive, clearly written, and concise.Reaction Paper Format IssuesHeadings: Upper left corner of your paper:

  • Name
  • Course number and title
  • Date

Title (centered on the page): Your reaction paper will begin with a title declaring where you stand on this statement: A Negative Reaction to the Statement “Women Should Not Be Sentenced Differently than Men” if you disagree with the statement, or A Positive Reaction to the Statement “Women Should Be Sentenced Differently Than Men” if you agree with this position.Length, Font, Spacing: The length of this paper is to be no less than 900 words double-spaced. Please word process your work using Times New Roman size 12 font. You are required to provide three properly cited references (APA or MLA), with a references page. You can use the paper in this assignment as one of your references. Must be submitted in Microsoft Word format. NO OTHER FORMAT WILL BE ACCEPTED!

Deliverable 7 – Financial Analysis for Master Budget Planning

Competencies

  • Interpret core managerial finance concepts and data.
  • Analyze operational budget drivers and variances.
  • Interpret financial decision-making criteria.
  • Evaluate financing strategies for business operations.
  • Evaluate operational performance using analytic and comparative techniques.
  • Devise risk mitigation strategies in financial management.

Scenario

     You are a department manager for a distribution team that packages  and ships products from a warehouse location to fulfill customer orders.  Your company has been acquired by a larger firm. The new owners are  requesting that each department manager prepare a master budget for the  upcoming year and submit it for approval. The submission must include a  written justification of the requested amount and at least one risk  mitigation action to control or reduce costs.            The information available to meet this request includes:

  • The department’s expenses, staffing, and output for the past 12 months;
  • Metrics,  financial and operational, that can be used to compare the department’s  performance and output to a department that provides similar  distribution support to another division of the company;
  • One potential efficiency project with two available financing options;
  • Data on the company’s historic employee practices such as annual raises and bonuses; and
  • The level of output that the department must meet in the upcoming year based on the new owners’ sales goals.

Instructions

     Using the information provided, as well as relevant economic data researched independently, make decisions about:

  • The staffing level required to meet the expected output requirements;
  • The annual raises and bonuses that should be included in the budget;
  • Whether the efficiency project option should be implemented, and if so, using which financing option; and
  • The cost control (i.e. risk mitigation) action(s) for implementation.

     From your decisions, prepare a master budget for the upcoming year  in Excel. Then, prepare a written justification, memo-style, for the  budget that discusses your decisions and the rationale for each. Include  support for your decisions from your analysis of the data and the  financial and operational metrics (historical and expected) as well as  at least one external economic or industry source.            In the justification memo, include one visual (chart, graph, etc.)  created from the data. The purpose and type of visual selected should be  based on the data being highlighted. Examples include a summary pie  chart of the total budget, a bar chart comparing the department’s  historical metrics to the expected metrics with the new budget, or costs  across time to implement the efficiency project using the recommended  financing options.            Submit an Excel file with the new master budget and a justification memo with embedded visual.
