A barrier that causes concerns and prevents the application of evidence-based practice within a school setting is the lack of cooperation, noncompliance, and communication. This is a truth that corresponds when working with school professionals, parents, and children. When individuals have poor interest in applying practice that is relevant in the child’s health needs, it domino’s their school work, poor grades, high absences, frequent hospital or doctor visits. As well as financial burdens on working parents who have to take time out from work to care for their ill ones. School nurses are a vital part of a school team, they help identify and reduce health, safety, and social risk factors that affect school attendance. Research shows that almost 93% of absences are related to health issues (NASN, 2018). The health problems seen in the school setting are asthma, allergies, diabetes, obesity, seizure disorders, anxiety, and attention deficit disorder that are responsible for child chronic absenteeism. This is why it is important to eliminate barriers that interrupt the application of evidence-based practice. Creating a cohesive environment for the student both in school and at home, can help the child maintain wellness, and improve attendance, therefore their learning. A student with diabetes must be educated on the diagnosis, the causes for both low and high blood sugars, teach the signs and symptoms and the consequences of not having their insulin administered. Teaching also applies to those in direct care of the child, whether it is a para, social workers, teachers, and parents.

Resistance to change has been an issue and a barrier in attempting to introduce evidence-based nursing practices. Unfortunately, there have been instances when employees were alerted to evidence-based practices which would ensure the patient’s health was not at risk, only to have a supervisor ignore the need. From past experiences, allowing staff to continue performing unsafe procedures was easier for the supervisor than addressing the situation. Therefore, having nurses fully engaged and willing to implement an evidence-based practice (EBP) is ineffective without a culture that supports it (Stillwell, Fineout-Overholt, Melnyk & Williamson, 2010).

One of the first steps in addressing any issue begins with communication at the administrative level. This step is critical to avoid putting patient’s care at risk. All communication should be documented with examples of the evidence-based practice and changes needed for successful implementation. It is also important to remain diligent with follow-up meetings to ensure the issue is being addressed with steps outlined for resolution.

Field Experience B: Mathematical Discourse and Academic Vocabulary

The importance of engaging students in meaningful mathematical discourse is an essential component of students’ mathematical learning experiences. Math involves a variety of academic terms essential to understanding math concepts. Proficiency in an academic language in all content areas is key to learning and achievement.

Part 1: Mathematical Discourse and Academic Vocabulary

Observe your mentor teach at least two mathematics lessons. During the observations, take note of the following:

Instructional strategies that develop student’s verbal and nonverbal skills

Mathematical discourse, or math talk, used in the classroom. (Math talk can be used in verbal, nonverbal, and spoken and written communication. Observe the classroom environment and notice evidence of mathematical discourse found on classroom walls, desks, supplies, but also in teacher-student and student-student conversations).

Using the “Vocabulary Strategies Chart,” in 250-500 words:

Identify five key academic vocabulary terms from the lessons observed during the clinical field experience

Describe the instructional strategies you observed the mentor using that provide ongoing academic vocabulary development.

Select three instructional strategies that could be used in the lesson to provide opportunities for students to justify and explain their mathematical thinking. The opportunities should include one or more interpersonal communication activities, such as pairs or small groups, and at least one that involves writing and using the math vocabulary being taught.

Part 2: Reflection

Write a 250-500 word reflection that includes the following:

Effective strategies for promoting mathematical discourse citing at least two scholarly sources to support your claims.

Description of how you will promote mathematical discourse and how this supports academic vocabulary development in your classroom students.

Theo Chocolate Makes a Sweet Difference

Please provide a one to two-page paper on the topic. This work should include an opening paragraph clearly restating the questions (DO Not simply copy the questions). Then apply at least one complete paragraph on each of the topics, followed by a closing or summary paragraph. Cites and structure should comply with APA v6 style.

Theo Chocolate Makes a Sweet Difference

“I want to build a model that other companies can look at and emulate. A model that’s based on strong ethics and financial success,” Joe Whinney, founder of Theo Chocolate, says when describing his company.

Seattle-based Theo Chocolate uses the cocoa bean to make the world a better place. The company has become known for its organic, Fair Trade bean-to-bar chocolate. Theo takes cocoa beans and manages the entire process to turn them into high-quality chocolate. The concept for Theo Chocolate came two decades ago when Whinney was traveling through Central America and Africa. He witnessed farmers being exploited by multinational companies and wanted to develop a firm that would sell a high-quality product and benefit the farmers that supplied the ingredients. In 2006, Whinney and his ex-wife Debra Music, who is now chief marketing officer, founded Theo Chocolate. They later relocated to Seattle and built a factory that began producing chocolate in 2006.

Originally, Theo wanted to develop flavors it was excited about, such as coconut curry. However, Whinney and Music realized that they also needed to listen to the consumer and develop more traditional flavors such as chocolate and mint. Their attention to consumer needs is not only ethical but also is an important part of a successful marketing strategy.

The firm decided it wanted to do everything it could to ensure the quality and integrity of its products. This is why it not only sources Fair Trade products but also oversees the production of the chocolate from bean to bar. Its ability to oversee the entire process allows it to control for any disruptions that might compromise the chocolate’s integrity.

“Just being organic and Fair Trade isn’t enough. You will spark consumers’ interest because of our certifications and the integrity of our product, but if it doesn’t taste good, if people don’t enjoy it, then it really doesn’t matter,” Whinney says. “So we put as much or more of an emphasis on quality because without that, then nothing else really matters.”

Today the firm employs 100 people and produces a successful line of chocolate bars, confections, caramels, and specialty items. Although the chocolate bars are priced higher than competitors, consumers know that they are supporting fair trade and organic practices that benefit the farmers. One of Theo’s greatest marketing tools is the tours it provides to visitors of its facilities. From the beginning, Theo’s founders wanted to educate consumers about Fair Trade and tell the story behind its chocolate to give consumers an appreciation for the work that goes into it and the farmers who supply the beans.

These stories have become even more important with an initiative Theo has embarked upon to help farmers from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Theo has launched a line of chocolate bars from the DRC. These bars cost a little bit extra at $5 a bar, but the extra money goes toward improving the farmers’ lives. Whinney pays the farmers in the DRC from whom he sources chocolate two to three times the market rate.

In addition to purchasing cocoa and paying farmers higher wages, the partnership has also provided education to 2,000 farmers on how to improve cocoa crop yields. Whinney is committed to developing trust and mutually beneficial relationships among suppliers, companies, and consumers.

Theo Chocolate embodies all four levels of social responsibility as it is profitable, obeys relevant laws, acts ethically, and engages in philanthropic activities. Although some believe that a company should focus on profits over community relations or stakeholder well-being, Theo Chocolate demonstrates that a firm can create positive change and be profitable at the same time.

Questions

  1. How has Theo Chocolate incorporated its model of philanthropy and social responsibility into a successful business concept?
  2. What advantages does Theo Chocolate have by sourcing cocoa from the Congo, even though the chocolates ends up costing consumers more?

Discussion for Henry Adams’s, “The Dynamo and the Virgin”

Discussion for Henry Adams’s, “The Dynamo and the Virgin”

Henry Adams remains, even now, an important figure for literary and historical study. Adams’s The Education of Henry Adams is a key historical text to understand the end of the 19th century and the dawn of the “modern” era of the 20th century. His history/autobiography is important, not for the facts that it records, but for Adams’s descriptions of his reactions to the incredible changes and scientific discoveries occurring during that era.

One of those key events was the World’s Fair of 1900 at Paris. The Fair offered the first public display of mechanical engines able to harness electricity. The vision of technology able to control such invisible forces made a deep and disturbing impression upon Adams. He records these impressions in the most famous chapter of his autobiography: “The Dynamo and the Virgin.”

Adams uses the terms “Dynamo” and “Virgin” as symbols to represent different forces working their way through history.

1. Find 2 key passages from the text where Adams describes what the “Virgin” symbolizes to him. What was the influence of this force?

(Hint: “Virgin” refers to the image of women in religion and art. Throughout ancient history, women were the inspiration to make men achieve things, like make great art, music, sculpture, architecture—even more.)

2. Find 2 key passages from the text where Adams describes what the “Dynamo” symbolizes to him. What kind of force does the Dynamo symbolize?

(Hint: Look up some old black and white photos of electric dynamos. They were these towering machines with large antennae that had electricity running up and down them. These original electricity-harnessing machines are what Adams saw. They symbolize the new power of science and technology.)

3. Adams sees the world moving slowly away from the power of the Virgin and toward the power of the Dynamo. Why does this movement disturb Adams, especially as a historian? Find 2 passages to support your answer.

(Hint: Do you think Adams is comfortable with the new rising power of science? Does he understand how these new electric machines work?

ANSWER SHOULD BE IN  the Sandwich method and add the page numbers for the passages. You should use this method of writing the short essays for my discussion questions .pls add the page numbers for the quotes.

mental health eassy

Grammarly plagiarism report must be submitted with this assignment.

Submit an evidence-based practice paper about cultural competency in mental health nursing. An evidence-based practice paper allows you to explore best practice and help improve client outcomes on a psychiatric unit. Your paper should describe how you, as a nurse, will include – or have included – cultural awareness in a client diagnosed with a mental illness. The person you describe could be someone in your clinical setting, someone you have worked with in the past, or a theoretical client.

Remember that culture can also include gender equality, sexual orientation, and other cultures besides race and religion – including cultures unique to one particular family. Your paper should be at least 3 pages (double-spaced, not including the title or reference pages) in APA Format and include:

  • Assessment: Discuss what you would assess in regard to a client’s culture. For example, are there specific dietary requirements? Are schedule changes necessary to avoid conflicts with religious practices? Who is the spokesperson for the family? What would you assess?
  • Diagnosis: List any mental health nursing diagnoses this person has or may be at risk for. Include at least one cultural diagnosis.
  • Planning: What planning needs to be done to ensure the cultural and emotional safety of the client?
  • Implementation: What are interventions that would ensure the safety of your client in regard to culture? Include at least two interventions. For example, if your client has religious beliefs that affect the ability to take medications, what interventions would you create to ensure the client’s safety? What can you do to make sure the client’s cultural needs are met?
  • Evaluation: How will you evaluate whether your implementation was effective? Make sure the parameters are objective and measurable.
  • In your summary, discuss whether any completed interventions were successful. What could be done differently in the future? If the interventions have not yet been carried out, you might discuss some institutional changes that could be made to ensure cultural safety for all clients in that setting.

Below is the Rubric guideline

Interview Experience and Synthesis Paper

  1. For this paper, your task is to seek out and interview a manager and prepare a paper based on what you learn. The manager should not be a family member but could be your own manager. It does not have to be your own manager.
Create a broad question derived from a topic from the textbook that interests you (E.g., How can a manager best keep employees motivated?). Prepare an interview protocol consisting of 5-10 smaller questions that address this broader theme. Given that the paper is due mid-way through this 7-week course (see the Course Schedule for the due date), you might need to read ahead a bit to locate and learn about a topic that is of particular interest to you. Skimming the textbook’s table of contents can help to initially direct you to a topic of interest.
Use your interview protocol in an hour-long interview with a manager and prepare a paper based on what you have learned through the interview with the manager, in terms of your topic of interest. Your paper should be 5-6 pages (1-inch margins, double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font). You can use whichever other formatting you choose, as long as it meets these specifications.
    (1) Start your paper by naming and describing the manager you interviewed in a few sentences.
    (2) State the broad interview question you crafted.
    (3) Compare what you have learned through your interview to what you have learned in the course/textbook. Explicitly reference course concepts.
    (4) The manager you interview will likely bring up problems they regularly experience. Think upon those problems and indicate in your paper how, if you were a management consultant, you might draw from the course material to suggest potential solutions.
    (5) Include your 5-10 question interview protocol, as well as the contact information for the manager, at the end of the paper in a single Appendix. The Appendix does not contribute toward your page limit. No special formatting is required for the Appendix – please keep font size and spacing and margins consistent with what is listed above. Simply put the title ‘Appendix’ at the top center of the page.
Do not waste space within the actual paper repeating your 5-10 interview questions – this should not read like a Q&A. If you need to give context by referencing an interview question, you might wish to number your interview questions in your Appendix and then reference the question number in the text of your paper.
When referencing concepts in the textbook, you can simply say “In the textbook, we learn that…” or “Williams says that…” (Williams is the textbook author). You do not need to provide citations for the textbook.
Since you only need to relate your interview content to the textbook content, a bibliography (references section) is not required. If you wish to relate to outside sources (this is not required), please cite those in text and append a bibliography to your paper [citations and bibliography in the consistent style/format (e.g., APA, MLA) of your choosing]. This bibliography does not count toward the page limit.
    A highly-graded paper will:
    (1) Provide an appropriate, broad question that is inspired by the textbook material (e.g., How can a manager inspire high levels of productivity among subordinates?) and that serves as the theme for the interview.
    (2) Contain well-designed interview questions that effectively address this broader question. Well-designed questions are concise, easy to understand, and address a single issue at a time. Some example questions that would help get at the broader question above: “In your experience, what are the biggest hindrances to your subordinates’ productivity?” and “What are the incentives that you use – if any – to enhance productivity among subordinates?”
    (3) Draw explicit connections between the course material and the responses provided by the manager. Does the manager provide answers that confirm what you’ve learned in this course or do they challenge what you’ve been learning? If it’s the latter, why do you think that might be? Be specific here. Name the textbook concepts/constructs that you are comparing the manager’s responses to. So, going back to the example I’ve been using, you might compare the manager’s responses about incentives to the concepts of intrinsic and extrinsic rewards in the textbook chapter on motivation.
    (4) If applicable, make suggestions – using course concepts – to problems that the manager being interviewed discloses. This might not be applicable if the manager does not disclose any struggles when they’re providing answers to your questions. But I expect that they will. I do not expect you to give these suggestions directly to the manager (though of course you’re free to!), but you would simply include them in your paper. Going back to the example I’ve been using, this might look something like this: “Melissa indicated limited success using extrinsic rewards, such as commission, to sustain productivity. Based on what I have learned in this course, I believe she might have more success if she learns what her employees find intrinsically rewarding in their work, and restructure their work where possible so that it offers more intrinsic rewards.”
    (5) Be free of spelling and grammatical errors.
