Disscussion 3

  •   Assignment 1: Discussion—Forecasting and Preparing Financial Statements
Tina, one of your friends, approached you and proposed a  partnership in a new venture that she is planning to start—a fashion  boutique that will sell women’s clothing and accessories. She told you  that she leafed through several books on how to prepare forecasts and  pro forma financial statements, but the books were geared toward  existing firms that have several years of historical financial  statements on which to base their projections.
In this assignment, you will review the accounting  concepts and financial statements presented in this module to critically  evaluate the challenges faced by your friend in her new business  venture.
    Tasks:
    Respond to the following points:

  • If your friend asked you for advice on how to prepare forecasts for a new fashion boutique for women, what would you tell her?
  • As a potential partner, what would be the important financial  statements to be in place for an initial assessment of the venture?  Provide details and justification of each choice.
  • Submission Details:

  • By the due date assigned, in about 300 words, post your responses to this Discussion Area.
  • Through the end of module, respond to at least two  of your classmates’ posts who chose terms different from yours. While  responding, address issues brought up in your classmates’ posts and  compare them with yours.
  • Write your initial response in 300–500 words. Your response should be  thorough and address all components of the discussion question in  detail, include citations of all sources, where needed, according to the  APA Style, and demonstrate accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation

Do the following when responding to your peers:

  • Read your peers’ answers.
  • Provide substantive comments by
    • contributing new, relevant information from course readings, Web sites, or other sources;
    • building on the remarks or questions of others; or
    • sharing practical examples of key concepts from your professional or personal experiences
  • Respond to feedback on your posting and provide feedback to other students on their ideas.
  • Make sure your writing
    • is clear, concise, and organized;

Winsome Manufacturing Company produces plastic storage containers and sells them to the home consumer through home sales events. At the company’s quarterly meeting, the head of marketing described a new product to be introduced in the first quarter of the next fiscal year, approximately 9 months from now. The product will be a room-sized plastic storage unit suitable to the outside of the home; it is similar to a competitor’s product but will have significantly more features. This product will open new markets for the sales channel, lay the foundation for add-on products, and generate new revenues. Management has only seen preliminary sketches of the potential product but they are very excited by the new product.

The project will require participation from the design, production, purchasing, shipping, sales, and marketing departments. Winsome Manufacturing owns a line of suitable injection molds, so all manufacturing will be done in-house. The project manager for this project has not yet been selected, but that decision is expected to be made in the next week.

A preliminary project initiation meeting will result in the identification of the project sponsor, selection of a project manager, and creation of the project charter. A manager in the production department who knows you are taking a college project management course asks you to prepare a brief report to help him prepare for the meeting by answering the following questions:

  • Who are the project stakeholders? How will they be involved in the project?
  • Who should be the project sponsor? Why?
  • From which department should the project manager come? Why?
  • What skills and experience are likely needed by the project manager for each phase in the project life cycle, and how do they differ between the various phases?
  • What type of communication plan will likely be needed during the project?
    • What information should be shared with the project stakeholders?
    • What is the mechanism that could be used for each type of information?
    • What is the frequency with which information should be shared?
    • What should be done if project communications are not proving to be effective?
    • What technology could be used for project communications?
    • At what point could communication about the project become an ethical or legal issue?
  • What information should be included in the following elements of the project charter:
    • What is the problem the project proposes to address?
    • What business opportunity might project completion create?
    • What is the business case for undertaking the project?
    • What is the financial impact of the project?
    • What are the expected results of the project?
    • What value will the project add?
    • What are risks that might be involved with undertaking the project?
    • What is the potential impact to the company if the project is not undertaken?

Present your findings as a Word document of 4–5 pages (not including title and reference pages) formatted in APA style.

Financial Statement Analysis

Follow three public companies traded in the NYSE that you would like to invest in, analyze the last financial statements available of each company (income statements, cash flow statements and balance sheets), and answer the following questions:

  1. At a first sight through the income statement, how are the results of each company (profits vs losses)?
  2. How do you think, in your opinion, that the P&L results of each company could be improved after analyzing its income
statement, taking into account the net sales and all costs and expenses incurred by the company?
  3. Have a look on the three financial statements available for each company. Analyze and answer the following questions:
    1. The liquidity of each company through the liquidity ratios and explain your findings.
    2. The profitability of each company through the profitability ratios and explain your findings.
    3. The market value of each company through the market ratios and explain your findings.
  4. Explain your conclusions of each one of the three chosen companies taking into account the analysis made above.
  5. Would you invest in each one of these companies? Why?
  6. Finally, have a look on the main financial journals. Which investment/s would you like to make and why?
  • The Assignment is an individual task.
  • It shall be submitted in a word document format. If you need to attach some graphics or calculations you can do it as an appendix.
  • Wordcount: 3,000 words.
  • Cover, Table of Contents, References and Appendix are excluded of the total wordcount.
  • Font: Arial 11 pts.
  • Text alignment: Justified.
  • The in-text References and the Bibliography have to be in Harvard’s citation style.

music written assignment

Directions:

This end-of-term written assignment (600 – 800 words, typewritten) will be an examination and analysis of a selected film clip, and the role of music—and more broadly, the role of sound—within that clip, as it interacts with the film’s visual track.  Each student will select a clip between one and three minutes in length (with perhaps some flexibility in length, one way or the other, depending on the clip).  A “first-come, first-claimed” set of sign-up boards is now available.  Each student must select a film clip (by title and times) that has not already been claimed.  An extensive list of films is provided (below) from which to select a clip.

Your paper provides an opportunity to apply the O.A.R.S model of examination (Observation, Analysis, Reflection, Synthesis), which has been practiced in the discussion boards, and which has been repeatedly modeled in the lessons of this course.  The key is to focus, and to examine in detail.

Here are some more tips about writing your paper:  You can assume the reader has seen the film, but you still want to orient your reader with a brief introduction of your topic.  Similarly, at the end of your paper, you want a conclusion that provides insight and synthesis–stating the sorts of things that come from reflecting on the observations and analysis that make up the “meat” of your paper.

Peruse the film list, and select a film from the list and identify a clip between 1 and 3 minutes in length that will be the subject of your paper.  It’s possible that the clip could be shorter or longer—but check with your instructor about any exceptions.

Some examples of clips that have already been “claimed” (by virtue of their having been the subject of examination within our lessons) provide a model for your sign-up “posts.”
example: A Star is Born (2018) 23:20-25:47

Jurassic Park (1993)

Superman

The Shining

Sunset Blvd.

Suicide Squad

Develop a disaster recovery plan for an organization. There are many different templates available online for you to use as reference and guidance. Your plan should cover the following sections (these sections detail the elements in a DR plan in the sequence defined by industry compliance standards ISO 27031 and ISO 24762):

  1. Important: This section should summarize key action steps (such as where to assemble employees if forced to evacuate the building) and list key contacts with contact information for ease of authorizing and launching the plan.
  2. Introduction
  3. Roles and Responsibilities
  4. Incident Response
  5. Plan Activation
  6. Document History
  7. Procedures

Your paper should meet the following requirements:

  • Be approximately six to eight pages in length, not including the required cover page and reference page. (Remember, APA is double spaced)
  • Follow APA 7 guidelines. Your paper should include an introduction, a body with fully developed content, and a conclusion.
  • Support your answers with the readings from the course and at least four scholarly journal articles to support your positions, claims, and observations, in addition to your textbook. The UC Library is a great place to find resources.
  • Be clearly and well-written, concise, and logical, using excellent grammar and style techniques. You are being graded in part on the quality of your writing.

Book Review of Simply Christian by N. T. Wright.

 CRITICAL BOOK REVIEW

The student will write a 7–8 page review of Simply Christian by N. T. Wright. Your goal in

reviewing this book is to provide a brief summary and careful evaluation. A good review should

include the following components.

1. Identify the purpose and overall structure.

2. Briefly explain some of the main points.

3. Briefly evaluate the clarity and organization of the book.

4. Evaluate whether this book has provided insight into Christianity and achieved its stated

purpose. Does the author satisfy my curiosity about the subject with the questions he raises

and the answers he gives to them? Is the author’s research sound and has it drawn valid

conclusions? Is the author consistent and logical? Do biases (and be sure to realize that you,

the reader, also have biases) influence the author’s conclusions? Be sure to critically evaluate

the book, giving specific examples from the book with detailed argumentation.

Format for Critical Book Review: Double-spaced, 1-inch margins, Times New Roman 12-point font.

Submissions must be Microsoft Word documents only. The choice of formatting style (e.g., SBL, APA,

MLA, Turabian) is at the student’s discretion, so long as there is consistency. Use inclusive language.

The title page must contain the following: title; student’s name, email address, course name and

number. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that the instructor receives an electronic submission

of the research paper correctly uploaded to Moodle.

your results.

·
Final
report should be formatted using APA current edition, and in a Word
document.

·
4-5
double-spaced pages of content in length (not counting the title page or
references).

This assignment
uses the Productivity. sav dataset.  Address the following research question using
a multiple regression (MR) model.
Provide all assumptions for the MR test:

RQ 8: Is there a significant
predictive relationship of employee productivity (productivity) from levels of
Teamwork (teamwork), Technical Knowledge (jobknowl), Adequate Authority to do
job well (jobauthr), Fair Treatment (wkrtrtmt), and Sick Days (wrkdyssk)?

·
H08:
There is no statistically significant predictive relationship of employee
productivity (productivity) from
levels of Teamwork (teamwork),
Technical Knowledge (jobknowl),
Adequate Authority to do job well (jobauthr),
Fair Treatment (wkrtrtmt), and Sick Days
(wrkdyssk).

·
Ha8:
There is a statistically significant predictive relationship of employee
productivity (productivity) from
levels of Teamwork (teamwork),
Technical Knowledge (jobknowl),
Adequate Authority to do job well (jobauthr),
Fair Treatment (wkrtrtmt), and Sick
Days (wrkdyssk).

There are
several assumptions for a multiple regression that must be met:

1.      First, the dependent variable must
be normally distributed.  If not, it must
be converted to z scores (see page 32-33 in Cronk).

2.      To test for normal distribution,
run the Shapiro-Wilk test (See Testing
Normality of Dataset.pdf
).

3.      When you run the Multiple
Regression, ensure you select options for multicollinearity and residual plots
(see Cronk).

General
Instructions

As
doctoral students, your assignments are expected to follow the principles of
high-quality scientific standards and promote knowledge and understanding in
the field of public administration. You should apply a rigorous and critical
assessment of a body of theory and empirical research, articulating what is
known about the phenomenon and ways to advance research about the topic under
review. Research syntheses should identify significant variables, a systematic
and reproducible search strategy, and a clear framework for studies included in
the larger analysis.

Manuscripts
should not be written in first person (“I”). All material should be 12-point,
Times New Roman type, double-spaced with margins of one inch.

All
manuscripts should be clearly and concisely written, with technical material
set off. Please do not use jargon, slang, idioms, colloquialisms, or
bureaucratese. Use acronyms sparingly and spell them out the first time you use
them. Please do not construct acronyms from phrases you repeat frequently in
the text.

Structure
of Assignment Paper

1.
Use
the following structure for your research article: Abstract, Introduction,
Literature Review/Theory, Methods, Results, Discussion,
and Conclusion.
Include a robust discussion section distinct from your conclusion.

2.
Give
your article a Title that is both descriptive and inviting to
prospective readers. Your article title should appeal to both scholars and
practitioners. Use a shortened version of the main idea of your article in the
title.

3.
Your
Abstract should inform readers what your article is about and its most
important findings. Readers, including scholars and practitioners, should be
able to understand your topic, argument, and conclusions. Make your abstract
straightforward and do not use technical language or jargon.

4.
In
the Lit Review/Theory, cite only literature and theory pertinent to the
specific issue and not those that are of only tangential or general
significance. When summarizing earlier works, avoid nonessential details;
instead, emphasize pertinent findings, relevant methodological issues, and
major conclusions. Citation of relevant earlier literature is a  sign of scholarly responsibility and it is
critical for the growth of a doctoral student in public administration.

5.
Methods: The Methods section “describes in
detail how the study was conducted, including conceptual and operational
definitions of the variables used in the study. Different types of studies will
rely on different methodologies; however, a complete description of the methods
used enables the reader to evaluate the appropriateness of your methods and the
reliability and the validity of your results” (APA current edition).  Include a description of your sample size and
procedure, participants, how data collected, and research design.

6.
Results include data analysis used,
results of the analysis including tables and figures.

7.
Discussion section includes interpretations
from the analysis. How do your analyses relate to the results found by scholars
in your lit review/theory section. In this section, evaluate and interpret
their implications, especially with respect to your original hypotheses.

8.
Provide
a distinct Conclusion that tells readers what you found, why it is
important, and what difference it will make for research and practice. Ensure
you separate your discussion section from the conclusion of the article.
Synthesize your article; do not summarize it. Show readers how the pieces of
your article fit together. Answer the question “So what?” Why is your article
significant, and how is it relevant?

Assignment Details

Create a Java application called “RateCalculator.” In this application, create a custom class named “Calculator.” In the Calculator class, create a method called “Multiply” which accepts two incoming integer variables. Within the Multiply method, create an integer variable to store the total, then calculate the total based on the two incoming variables. Return the total.

In the project class, within the main() method, declare integer variables named “firstNum” and “secondNum” and set their initial values to any number between 1 and 9. Create an additional integer variable called “output.” Then write code to declare a member of the Calculator class called “myCalc” and then utilize myCalc to call the Multiply method to calculate the result of firstNum times secondNum. Store the result in “output”, and present the result on screen.

Within the Calculator class, create methods similar to Multiply called “Add”, “Subtract”, and “Divide.” Create appropriate logic within these methods, and display their use in the main method of the project class. (These methods will not be utilized when the program runs, but the code must be present.)

Write appropriate in-line comments in both the project class and the Calculator class to explain each line of code in your program.

Summary:

  • Create an application called “RateCalculator”
  • Create a custom class with the name and features listed above
  • Create methods within the Calculator class to perform the calculations
  • Write code in the Calculator class (in the main() method) to execute the methods from the Calculator class

Your deliverable for this assignment is the NetBeans project you created using the steps above (ZIP the whole folder that contains the project).

Note: There is no user input in this program. The values that will be calculated are the values that you state when you declare “firstNum” and “secondNum”.

Research paper: ISO 27001 Standard

The required article readings this week give a good discussion and look at some of the frameworks that are used to manage risk within organizations and enterprises. One of the readings this week provided an introduction and comparison of different frameworks. As with anything, there are going to be strengths and weaknesses to all approaches. For your week 6 research paper, please address the following in a properly formatted research paper:

  • Do you think that ISO 27001 standard would work well in the organization that you currently or previously have worked for? If you are currently using ISO 27001 as an ISMS framework, analyze its effectiveness as you perceive it in the organization.
  • Are there other frameworks mentioned has been discussed in the article that might be more effective?
  • Has any other research you uncover suggested there are better frameworks to use for addressing risks?

Your paper should meet the following requirements:

  • Be approximately four to six pages in length, not including the required cover page and reference page.
  • Follow APA 7 guidelines. Your paper should include an introduction, a body with fully developed content, and a conclusion.
  • Support your answers with the readings from the course and at least two scholarly journal articles to support your positions, claims, and observations, in addition to your textbook. The UC Library is a great place to find resources.
  • Be clearly and well-written, concise, and logical, using excellent grammar and style techniques. You are being graded in part on the quality of your writing.

Intelligence Types

Chapter 8 goes over many of the different theories that show how intelligence is understood. Describe the differences between the theories of Binet and Gardner in terms of intelligence. Which theorist do you believe is right in the way they think about intelligence? Why?

Teaching Problem Solving

In much of our adult lives, we are forced to use problem-solving skills to help us to make decisions and to make sense of the information we are trying to interpret. Not having good problem-solving skills can greatly impact how we live our lives.
How can a parent encourage their child to learn to use problem-solving skills? How do games and sports help with this? How does making mistakes help to build problem-solving skills? How does a parent’s reaction to a child making a poor decision impact their ability to learn from the mistake they made?

Check in – 3 Types of Memory Stores

There are three types of ways that we store memories. For participation credit, explain each of them and explain what might impact our ability to store information in those ways?
