T2

Overview

You will craft an individual essay in response to the provided prompt. You must use current APA style with default margins and 12-pt Times New Roman font. The essay must include a title page and a reference page, also in current APA format. You must include citations to a sufficient number of appropriate scholarly sources to fully support your assertions and conclusions (which will likely require more than the minimum number of citations). Each paper must contain at least 57 scholarly sources original to this paper, not including the course textbooks, presentations, or Bible.

Instructions

Considering the readings, video presentations, and your own research, draft a quality 5–7-page research paper on the role, legitimacy, and authority of the UN according to the following prompts, answering in a separate or integrated manner as you wish:

  • What is the relationship of the UN to the current international system of states? Considering the reasons for the creation of the UN after WWII, does it seem driven by political necessity or political utility? In plainer English, do states need the UN more than the UN needs the states? Or do states both large and small find the UN a useful tool for improving their relative power and legitimacy vis-à-vis other states and global institutions? Is there some position in-between?
  • Identify at least 3 reasons that states might defend the intrinsic legitimacy of the UN as a governing authority. In reverse, identify at least 3 reasons that states might criticize its legitimacy and authority. In short, make an argument for the limits and possibilities of the UN as a legitimate governing authority in a world of sovereign states.
  • Using biblical and extra-biblical sources (The Bible, commentaries, teachings, other writings, etc.) to inform your own reasoning, comment on the compatibility of a Christian Worldview with the idea of World Government. [Attention: The Instructor does not view the question as rhetorical, nor the answer self-evident. So, reason carefully.] For example, if the logic of collective action under the Articles of Confederation—the logic of state sovereignty—failed to secure American liberties as well as the ‘more perfect union’, the new Constitution established by the Framers in 1787 to replace it, effectively requiring states to cede sovereignty to a larger collective authority, why would the same logic of collective action not justify the UN as a ‘more perfect union’ to replace an anarchic system of sovereign states putting the world at risk in a nuclear age?
  • Length of assignment: 5-7 pages
  • Format: APA
  • Number of citations: at least 5-7 scholarly sources
  • Acceptable sources: scholarly articles, books, current affairs events, Bible, etc.

  2. The video clip goes on to describe “It might also be said that the history of what we call art is a conversation that continues on, as our contemporary present passes on to become some future generation’s classical past.” It further states that “if we are so inclined, we might even start to see every work of art as a complementary part of some undefined, unified whole of past human experience, a trail that leads right to our doorstep, and continues on with us and is open to anyone who wants to explore it.”

Week 6 Final

Final Paper and Folio

You will create a Folio that includes redesigned activities from prior coursework in your program (MACI, MAECEL, MAED, MASE, or MATLT)  that demonstrate your competency with your Programs Learning Outcomes, which are also the Course Learning Outcomes for EDU 696. Additionally, you will write a narrative reflection of your experience with the program and the Folio construction. The overarching goal of this Final Paper and Folio assignment is to showcase learning from your Master’s Program in a consolidated, web-based format that can easily be shared with anyone: colleagues, potential or current employers, friends, family members, and others. Within this Folio, you will tell the story of your educational journey and value of your personal Master’s experience as it applies to the labor market. Remember, the Folio is your chance to show what you know and are able to do in the practice of teaching and learning with technology. You will submit a link to your Folio and attach your paper portion of the assignment in a Week Six discussion for preliminary feedback by peers and the instructor before the final submission. The earlier you submit in the Week Six discussion the more opportunity you have for input from your peers and instructor to improve your work before the final submission of this assignment.

Creating the Final Paper and Folio

Please include a link to the Folio within the paper portion of this assignment. As needed, refer to your Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) list (MACI, MAECEL, MAED, MASE, or MATLT). Then, create your final assignment to meet the content and written communication expectations below.

Content Expectations

  • Folio Components (5 Points): Include at least one artifact demonstrating mastery for each of your Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) (MACI, MAECEL, MASE, or MATLT).

  • Narrative – Ranking (5 Points): In no more than one paragraph for each Program Learning Outcomes, rank and discuss the importance of each PLOs to your individual work setting, including an explanation of each ranking and its value to you in your learning environment or your position. Discuss how you currently use each PLO in your work setting and, if PLOs are not used, discuss ways you might begin to use them in your current or future work setting. If you are unemployed or otherwise do not work in a teaching role, you can either (a) use a previous work location, or (b) imagine the perfect work location (e.g., your dream job), and use that fictional work center to rank and discuss each PLO. The overall goal of this section of the narrative is to rank each PLO according to its importance to you as an educator or potential educator, starting by listing the most important PLO to you first.
  • Narrative – Challenges and Solutions (5 Points): In no more than two paragraphs discusses the design and development challenges experienced while creating the Folio and how challenges were overcome.

Written Communication Expectations

  • Page Requirement (.5 points): Include one paragraph for each of the Program Learning Outcomes for a total of two to three pages (not including the title and reference pages).

Review the Center for Teaching (n.d.) resource that provides tips for creating an effective PowerPoint presentation. Then, revisit the scenario presented for this Assignment, which prompts you to assume the role of an instructor in a community college setting. Next, reflect on all that you have explored in this module with regard to language acquisition theory, as well as the key principles and major contributions by the field’s most notable theorists: Piaget, Vygotsky, Skinner, and Chomsky. Last, consider why it is vital for early childhood professionals to possess knowledge of language acquisition and development.

Imagine that you are a community college instructor who has taught in the Early Childhood department for 3 years. In this time, you have observed your students’ difficulty in fully grasping the importance of language theory as it relates to the healthy development of young children. To overcome this struggle, you have created a lesson that will prompt students to explore how young children learn language. You are excited, because you believe this will provide students with foundational knowledge in language theory and acquisition. You decide to begin your lesson with a PowerPoint presentation that outlines the contributions of key language theorists and the principles that define their theories.

For this course, you are to consider yourself as a police detective. You are about to be engaged in a very stressful situation. The following are the facts:

  • You and your partner are working the afternoon shift and are at your duty station—the detective bureau—when you receive a call from the communications center.
  • Uniformed police officers on the crime scene have requested that a missing persons investigator respond for a critical missing persosn case. You ask the communications officer on the phone for any additional facts, and all she knows is that it is a child missing from her home.
  • As you leave the detective bureau to respond to the scene, you ask for the juvenile detective working your shift to accompany you.
  • As you respond to the scene, you learn via police radio that the missing child is a female, age 11. She did not return home from school.
  • You arrive at the residential neighborhood of individual houses and are greeted by the first officers on the scene. They brief you on what they know.
    • First, they announce that the missing child is the daughter of a police lieutenant from your agency.
    • Next, they have learned from the school that the child never arrived at school that day.
    • Neighbors, volunteer firefighters, and uniformed police are gathering to begin searching the adjacent wooded area for the missing child.
  • You ask several uniformed officers to begin conducting neighborhood interviews to see if anyone saw anything during the morning as the child left for school. Quickly, an officer identifies a neighbor returning home from work that provides information.
  • As the neighbor left for work, he observed an adult subject walking behind the missing child on the sidewalk. This neighbor did not recognize this adult male as being from the neighborhood, but he provides you with a physical description of the individual.
  • By narrowing the scope of the investigation by focusing on a handful of neighbors, you are able to locate a family that has had a visiting family member from a nearby city. Now, the focus of the investigation has narrowed on locating and speaking with this subject, referred to as Sam.
  • You learn that Sam is returning from his home in the nearby city by transit bus in a few hours. As the primary investigator on the case, you decide to meet the bus and to bring Sam to the detective bureau for an interrogation.

Refer to the main scenario. As you engage the subject (Sam) in discussion of more general questions surrounding the disappearance of the child at the detective bureau, you ask general questions of Sam’s actions during the morning hours. At this point, you continue to become suspicious of Sam’s vague answers and denials.

Write a memorandum from your notes to the file, detailing your suspicion of the subject under questioning. Include the following:

  • His vague answers and initial denial of knowing the missing child
  • His reluctance to fully cooperate with you during the questioning
  • How you would convince him to reveal more information about this case
    • Will you reveal evidence in the case? Explain.
    • Will you utilize open or closed questioning? Why?

In this assignment, include your understanding of physiological and psychological aspects of interviews and interrogations. To complete your assignment, please use your book, phase resources, and all course materials.
