.1400 WORD Min. at least 4 scholarly sources due 5/23

This week, you will write a comprehensive APA analysis paper using all the knowledge you

have gained in HIS 2100. Use what you have learned from the READ and ATTEND sections

throughout the course (including Unit 5) and at least three scholarly sources to address the

topics mentioned below. Use in text quotes and do not self plagiarize from the previous

weeks. If you need support on how to formulate your APA analysis paper, you may refer to

your APA template under the Resource tab or contact the CPS librarians. Please refer to your

Rubric for guidance. Upon completion you will click on the Dropbox tab to submit

your paper for grading.

In our contemporary digital world, facts and data are everywhere. A study of our past is truly

valuable when we strive to gain, beyond rote facts, a deeper meaning from what has occurred

before our time in order to give understanding to the present. Considering the topics you

addressed in Units 1-4, along with topics from Unit 5 (economic challenges of the 1970s and

80s, the end of the Cold War, plans for democracy in the Middle East, and the “two Americas”),

analyze three topics in light of their value to our time.

Tips for Unit V and Closing Thoughts

Hello All,

We have reached the end of the race. I hope you have enjoyed the material. I have certainly enjoyed reading your insights and getting to know a number of you via texts, phone calls and emails.

As for Unit V Complete, I suggest reading your essay over before posting to ensure that you have “compared and contrasted” past and present with persistent themes in American history.

Here are some topic tips.

Unit I calls for a discussion of Reconstruction, a period famous for both very hopeful examples of American ideals such as the14th and 15th Amendments as well as examples of America at its worst; the birth of the KKK comes to mind here, for example.  One theme of “compare and contrast” could be between the conditions and challenges faced by freedmen in the late 1860s with the conditions and challenges faced by many Americans of African descent today.

Another “compare and contrast” between Unit I themes and today would be the rise of labor unions.  Just recently, the workers at an Alabama Amazon location voted down the formation of a union.  Why?  How does their view differ with the views of many workers from the 1870s?

In Unit II we delved into the Progressive Era, a time of reforms to address social ills and capitalism’s excesses.  How do modern day progressive movements such as environmentalism or Black Lives Matter differ from earlier incarnations of American progressivism?

In Unit III, we looked into the America First Committee and their desire for isolationism.  Here, the compare and contrast with contemporary American politics is obvious; the former president explicitly took on some of the same language as the first America First movement.

Unit III also focused on the Cold War. As most of you noted in your essays, that one came to an end in 1991 with the dissolution of the Soviet Union. However, are we facing a new Cold War? Current relations between the United States and China are not good, and relations between the US and Russia are even worse.

Any of the five topics above would be a rich source of material to compare and contrast the American past with the American present.  Further, it is by no means an exhaustive list.  There are at least a dozen other topics we have touched upon that would be relevant.  Remember, however, that you need to focus on three. For the highest scores, make sure to bring in relevant historical context and support general points with specific facts along with your own analysis.

It has been an honor to be your facilitator for US history, and I wish you all the best in your endeavors.

3 Pages: Pay for performance research paper

“Pay for Performance” has made inroads in business, but has remained a hard sell in public school systems. There are some successful examples where teacher pay has been linked to student test scores. For example, in Minnesota, some districts have stopped giving automatic raises for seniority and base 60% of all pay increases on performance. In Denver, unions and school districts designed an incentive program where teachers receive bonuses for student achievement and for earning national teaching certificates. However, some plans have not worked. For example, Cincinnati teachers voted against a merit pay proposal and Philadelphia teachers gave their bonus checks to charity rather than cashing them. It appears that having teachers involved in planning the incentive system is one key factor to success. The same can be said for all incentive plans – if employees don’t buy into them, they will not work.

Your paper may be based on a business entity of your choosing from the public or private sector and must answer the following Research Questions:

1. How could an organization measure the effectiveness of its pay-for-performance plan(s)?

2. From an employee’s perspective, what are the advantages and disadvantages of using a pay-for-performance plan?

3. From an employer’s perspective, what are the advantages and disadvantages of using a pay-for-performance plan?

Perspective, Resources and the Future Responses

Provide (2) 150 words substantive response with a minimum of 1 APA references for RESPONSES 1 AND 2 below. Response provided should further discuss the subject or provide more insight. To further understand the response, below is the discussion post that’s discusses the responses. 100% original work and not plagiarized. Must meet deadline.

RESPONSE 1:

Threats targeting remote workers will increase, particularly if the work from home movement continues post-COVID. This in turn raises the threat against VPNs and cloud-based usage, such as overall misconfigurations, login/username/passwords issues, data retention and deletion concerns, etc. (StealthLabs, 2020).

Also, while not specifically network-focused, insider threats will potentially increase as well (which then takes advantage of network vulnerabilities). This includes unauthorized remote access (connecting unsecured mobile devices, for instance), utilizing misconfigured network weaknesses, and other vulnerabilities which lead to compromises and/or attacks (Hendry, 2021).

To remedy these two threats (and others), evolving technologies may be able to assist. For instance, artificial intelligence and machine learning can be used to analyze network traffic or user movements, and quickly alert security officials to anything unusual. Machine learning may also be able to proactively identify any threats prior to compromises even occurring (Brooks, 2020). Super computing or quantum computing will also eventually be used to better encrypt connections, files, etc. NIST is currently evaluating 65+ methods of post-quantum cryptography which may be used to secure systems in the future (Denning, 2019). On the flip slide, though, this technology can also be used by malicious actors to decrypt and attack systems.

Also, governance, risk and compliance (GRC) will help with all of these above, in that GRC outlines a way forward to protect systems from compromises. For instance, governance includes drafting policies and procedures to ensure data and network security. Risk is when an organization identifies specific threats and how to best remedy those vulnerabilities. And compliance works to ensure all users are adhering to the requirements implemented by the organization.

RESPONSE 2:

1. List your thoughts on what the future holds for network security threats (what they are, will they increase, decline, etc.).

Bigger and better Malware and botnets that attack in more sophisticated ways. Starting in the “Cloud” as businesses increasingly rely on various cloud services for managing their customer data, internal project plans and financial assets, we expect to see an emergence of attacks targeting endpoints, mobile devices and credentials as means to gaining access to corporate or personal clouds. It’s hard to predict what form future attacks will take – but we can imagine ransomware taking hostage not just your local documents, but any type of cloud-hosted data. These attacks may not require data encryption and could take the form of blackmail – threats of going public with your confidential data. Strong password and cloud data access policies are more important than ever, your security is only as good as your weakest point!

2. List any evolving technologies (new) that you are aware of that can help with the threats you listed.

The next generation of firewalls is a hardware or software-based network security system that is able to detect and block sophisticated attacks by enforcing security policies at the application level, as well as at the port and protocol level. Next-generation firewalls integrate three key assets: enterprise firewall capabilities, an intrusion prevention system (IPS) and application control. Like the introduction of stateful inspection in first-generation firewalls, NGFWs bring additional context to the firewall’s decision-making process by providing it with the ability to understand the details of the Web application traffic passing through it and taking action to block traffic that might exploit vulnerabilities. This is the single best example of what is evolving for network security a more intuitive firewall that has multi-levels of protection.

3. Explain how Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) will help with these matters, what part will they play (Chapter 15).

GCR when broken down its part plays an effective role in helpin shore up your network security. Governance makes sure that everyone from admins to users is following the security policy rules. Compliance makes sure your company is following all laws that apply to your business’s network, and finally Risk management. One of the foundations of any information security programs is a robust risk management practice. If you don’t identify your risks, how do you know which security technologies to deploy and where. All these put together create an equilibrium that keeps the network in good order.

Instructions
Now that you have selected a topic for your final presentation, this week you will need to construct your annotated bibliography using APA style. For this assignment, you need to select a minimum of 8 sources that you plan on using for your presentation and then construct the annotations for each source. The concept of constructing a bibliography is certainly not new for most students, but you may not be as comfortable adding annotations to the bibliography entries.

After you select a source and reference it in APA format, construct the annotation for the source. The annotation is really just answering a few questions about the sources itself and once you answer these questions this part of the assignment almost creates itself. Answer the following 6 questions for each source:

  1. Main purpose of the source
  2. Intended audience for the source
  3. Relevance to your topic (or explain why it was not relevant to your topic)
  4. Author’s background and credibility
  5. Author’s conclusions or observations
  6. Your conclusions or observations

Data Analytics Life Cycle

Overview

In this assignment, you will describe the role of a data analyst in each phase of the data analytics lifecycle (DAL). The DAL is an iterative cycle of phases used by analysts and organizations to address organizational challenges. The DAL tells us how to approach an analytical problem by providing a well-defined process, breaking large projects into smaller pieces, and spending time to plan and determine the size of the work. Through exploration of the DAL, you will understand the impact and importance of leveraging data in organizational decision making.

Scenario

You are a data analyst for a business organization that serves local nonprofit organizations with products and services. Your supervisor has assigned you to work with a client that has a business problem.

A nonprofit partnership, Two Sisters, Inc., is looking to determine where a majority of their donors live. They have asked questions such as the following:

  • Which geographical areas within the United States do most of our donors come from?
  • Are there areas of the country from which we don’t see any donors?
  • Do our social media posts or fundraisers calling for donations reach these areas with few or no donors?

In this case, the stakeholders are your supervisor and Two Sisters, Inc., which is providing insight and feedback on the business problem.

Prompt

The stakeholders have asked you to outline your approach to addressing this business problem.

  • Begin by creating a diagram, or visual, of the phases of the DAL. Your diagram must include clear labels and the appropriate arrows.
    • Please note: You may choose to use whichever tool you wish to create your diagram. Save a copy of your diagram to your computer by taking a picture, taking a screenshot, or saving a copy of the image.
  • In your diagram, briefly describe the key points of what occurs during each phase.
  • Next, consider your role as a data analyst in this scenario. Select one phase of the DAL and describe a data analyst’s role in this phase. Be sure to explicitly state which phase you chose.

This assignment must be 1 to 3 pages in length. All references must be cited in APA format.

NURS5061-WEEK6-DISCUSSION-REPLY1

Data is indeed everywhere today, and we are expected to get a glut of data more with the coming development in technologies like the Internet of things.  So far, we, in our everyday lives, are familiar with data collected by our cellphones and computers.  However, in the medical field even more data is collected by different devices every time a patient goes for a test, his biometric data, data from health records, pharmaceutical research, public records, EHR and so on (Durcevic, 2020).  The collection and analysis of this big data is a complex task and the data needs to be stored with care.

However, this big data can be utilized in innumerous ways from finding new cures to aiding R.D. to streamlining operations to reducing the price in healthcare administration (Glassman, 2017).  For instance, big data can improve patient care through operational efficiency.  Hospitals can use big data to figure out when patients are more likely to be admitted to hospitals or when the hospitals will be very busy (Glassman, 2017).  This information will help them plan their near-term future and decide when they should call the staff and when they can afford to let them leave (Glassman, 2017).  Similarly, big data can also help manage information related to hospital facilities, which can thus be used for cost reduction.  The savings can then be reinvested back in the healthcare facility for improved care.  Moreover, big data can help providers provide more individualized care by helping them respond to conditions more accurately.  This reduces errors (Glassman, 2017).

However, there are many challenges and risks also associated with the advent of informatics based on big data.  The most obvious risk is the privacy concerns associated with sharing all kinds of information related to patients and staff members (Rn, 2016).  Closely connected to the issue of privacy is the issue of security (Rn, 2016).  There is a good chance that patient information can be hacked in and stolen if it is not protected properly.

Given the obvious and numerous benefits of big data, it is likely that organizations are not going to desire to get rid of its potential in their workplace.  Rather, they will have to find a way around arresting its main sources of concern.  For instance, the providers can invest in the security of patient data and be paranoid about implementing it daily.  Moreover, all employees who handle big data need to be trained extensively in using it the right way so that they do not misuse it or leak it by mistake.
