Plato and Hobbes both have some strong criticisms of democracy and of humanity.

INSTRUCTIONS:

For all your Reflection Assignments, you will need to show an understanding of the material presented on Canvas and I will be looking for your own analysis.  Your analysis should show some critical thinking (using your own words) and you should make sure to fully explain your responses.  Please answer ALL of the following questions and answer ALL parts of each question.

1.) Plato and Hobbes both have some strong criticisms of democracy and of humanity. What do you think about what they both had to say about the flaws in democracy and the flaws in society?  Do you think there is anything happening now that reflects their concerns?

2.) Locke and Rousseau both have very different views of humanity, society, and the possibilities of democracy from Hobbes and Plato. Which set of ideas and perspectives do you find more convincing?  Meaning, which view of humanity and democracy do you agree with the most: the views of Locke which are more optimistic or the views of Hobbes which are most pessimistic?  Make sure you specifically address the material covered on Canvas in your answer.

3.) Make sure to watch the video on the Allegory of the Cave. What is YOUR interpretation of the allegory and how do YOU think the allegory relates to our current society and government?

You do not need to write this is an essay-style format.  You can simply number each response #1-3.

HSA5200 Deliverable 7 – Develop a Proposal for Healthcare Reform

Scenario

The United States continues to experience challenges with respect to health reform. There is considerable agreement on the need for health reform; however, there is an appreciable divide with respect to how to best achieve reform. Discussions on strategies for reform include a repeal of current legislation (the ACA), the implementation of a universal plan, and various “fixes” to the ACA.

Many would suggest that a repeal of the current system would be most appropriate, while others support efforts to “fix” the current ACA. The health organization you work for has asked you to develop a comprehensive proposal for healthcare reform.

The U.S. expends more of its Gross Domestic Product on healthcare than any other developed nation. However, the superior amount of spending has not resulted in superior outcomes when compared to other countries. In addition to higher costs, the U.S. is the only developed country that does not offer universal health to its citizens. There has been a significant amount of discourse with respect to the pros and cons of universal coverage. Those who oppose universal coverage often refer to the Canadian, single-payer system and its challenges, such as high tax liabilities for citizens, its long wait times, and the perception of the single payer system as socialized medicine. However, those in favor of universal coverage argue that the single payer system is not socialized medicine and its costs relative to the current system in the U.S. is more cost effective. Moreover, the single payer system is only one form of universal coverage. Countries that consistently rank high in terms of positive health outcomes often employ a multi-payer universal system as opposed to a single-payer system.

Instructions

You will analyze the current literature on the health system in the U.S. Your final project will include a paper, a voiceover PowerPoint presentation, and an infographic of your proposed solution. Possible solutions include a single payer universal plan, a multi-payer universal plan, a potential enhancement to the ACA such as adding a public option, Medicare for all, or a complete repeal of the current law.

The three (3) deliverables are:

  1. A paper that includes the challenges facing the U.S. in terms of balancing the iron triangle of health – Costs, Access, and Quality. Please address the following:
  2. An examination of current policy
  3. A discussion of whether healthcare should be considered a right or a privilege
  4. A discussion of the role of special interest groups on health reform
  5. Articulate the significance of the involvement the Congressional Budget Office in determining the cost effectiveness of reform
  6. Explain the importance of considering existing privacy laws in reform efforts
  7. Describe and justify your potential solution to current challenges facing the U.S., including resource allocation
  8. A voiceover PowerPoint presentation that summarizes the major challenges facing the U.S. in terms of balancing the iron triangle of health, a comparison of various possible solutions, and your proposed solutions.
  9. An infographic that outlines your final proposed solution to the current challenges facing the U.S. in terms of balancing the iron triangle of health.

biography

Biographical Inventory guidelines: Find an individual currently working in the field that you are planning to go into. Reach out via email to see if they would be receptive to doing an interview with you. Once you find a suitable candidate, set up a time for the interview (phone is okay). You will then write a biographical inventory of the individual’s life and career. Your paper must be 5 – 7 double spaced pages(11 pt font) and include the following:  A brief introductory section describing your career goals and your reasons for choosing the individual (1/2 – 1 page)  A section detailing the life and career of the individual focusing on key decisions and choices that led to their current position. (1 ½ – 2 pages)  A section describing the organization that he/she currently works for and their position within that organization. (2 – 3 pages)  Your conclusions from the interview. Describe what you learned that will help you on your own career path. What changes will you make? (1/2 – 1 page) Before conducting the interview, you need to research the individual and the company beforehand to come up with set of interview questions. You are free to deviate and ask follow-up questions. These questions must be turned in with your paper. The date, time and location of the interview must also be included in your paper

Task #4 Instructions Review Task #3 for an overview of the topics if needed, but you should be able to use your outline from Task #3 as your guide for writing this assignment. In your analysis, focus on five of the literary devices listed below:Tone DictionImageryComparisons (Simile and metaphor)Other figures of speech (hyperbole, personification, pun)IronySymbolismAllusionSound (alliteration, rhyme)FormFor the five areas you choose, identify each device in the poem you selected and discuss in detail how each affects the poem’s overall meaning.  For example, if you choose to talk about comparisons, then you need to identify at least one simile or metaphor in the poem and explain how the simile or metaphor contributes to the meaning of the poem.  Suppose a poem entitled “Dating Woes” contains the metaphor “George is a hog”; you would explain how this metaphor implies that George is sloppy and does not take care of himself or his surroundings, which in turn serves to support the poem’s overall idea that sloppy people have trouble finding dates. Do NOT pick a device that is missing from the poem!  For instance, if the poem does not contain allusions, then you should not choose this area. Complete your work in a .doc or .docx file. At the top of the page, give a header as follows:Student name (Your name here)(Instructor’s name here)ENG 102Date (put the actual date here)Then center the title of the poem and its corresponding page number.  Number #1-5, listing one literary device beside each number.  Follow by giving your identification and discussion.  See the example below:1. Comparison–“Dating Woes” contains many similes and metaphors.  One metaphor is “George is a hog.”  This metaphor implies that George’s characteristics resemble those of a pig.  He is sloppy in appearance and in surroundings.  A pig relishes in a mud bath, so George must not be bothered by a lack of cleanliness.  The metaphor supports the overall message of the poem by indicating that sloppiness is one deterrent to finding a date.    All papers must be formatted according to these guidelinesPreview the document.Submit your paper for Task #4 here.

English 101 Essay- Compare and Contrast

Essay Prompt

Throughout the semester we have discussed the various techniques used to present arguments about topics that really matter to us. We have learned that in order to be persuasive, we need to present facts (logos), appeal to our audience’s emotions (pathos), and gain the trust of our readers (ethos). We have also discussed literary devices/techniques used by authors to craft their work. For your last essay assignment, I would like for you to pick two stories/essays from the book One World and compare and contrast them.

The thesis should come up with a compelling argument as to why one author’s story is better than the other based on a literary technique and examine a relationship between the two stories. The comparisons should focus on something like:

Discuss the relationship between the two stories/characters and what the reader is meant to learn from the characters/stories. Then discuss which author’s story is better than the other based on a literary technique (like imagery (Links to an external site.), allegory (Links to an external site.), foreshadowing (Links to an external site.), bildungsroman (Links to an external site.) (conflicts related to coming of age) or irony (Links to an external site.) [you may also pick your own literary device/technique as well].

A character comparison that discusses the similarities and differences between two characters and what this comparison means to us as a society (what can we learn from it?).

For the essay, you may choose two stories on your own, or you can pick ONE of the following to compare:

1. Explore the issues of abandonment in Lauri Kubuitsile’s “The Rich People’s School” and Vanessa Gebbie’s “The Kettle on the Boat”

2. Female identity and gender roles in Molara Wood’s “Kelemo’s Woman” and Chika Unigwe “Growing My Hair Again”.

3. Male identity and coming of age in Martin A. Ramos’ “The Way of the Machete” and Shabnam Nadiya’s “Ishwari’s Children”.

Please note that you may use the point-by-point or block comparison methods to structure your essay.

A. Purpose:

To write a comparison (compare and contrast) essay that clearly communicates a main point or thesis that supports the point(s) and connects the support.

B. Format:

Please be sure to use the  MLA 8 Essay Template download to create your essay. Your essay should include:

1. Introduction – one or two sentences that take the reader from the big picture to the specific topic. Discuss why it is important to read stories written by people in other cultures.

2. Thesis statement (multi-part). Tell the reader what the relationship is between the stories and which author’s technique is better and why. PLEASE UNDERLINE THE THESIS.

3. At least six quotations and examples for each of the terms that support the thesis.

4. Transitional techniques between thoughts and paragraphs to make the essay flow.

5. Conclusion – restate the thesis and recap the support.

6. Works Cited page – lists all the sources that were quoted/cited in the essay, alphabetically by author’s last name. Note that the entry will depend on the format you used (video/article).

The essay should be at least six paragraphs long, and each paragraph should contain 8- 10 sentences. In each of the paragraphs, one of the sentences should be a topic sentence.

In order to accomplish this assignment, learners should conduct research on the models and build the PowerPoint based on that research (properly referencing) credible sources.  The Executive Summary is a formal written document from you, the VP of Strategy to the CEO and Board Chair giving background, your research, and recommendations based on their request.  The Community Newsletter is based on how you might market to the communities you recommend targeting.

Purpose of Assignment:  As an executive or future executive you may be tapped to work on issues related to strategic projects.  Strategic projects take on many but usually begin with an investigation of potential benefits and return on investment for the organization.  This assignment will help you with those skills by having you investigate, analyze options, and put forth recommendations for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and/or Board of Directors to consider.

Scenario: You were recently hired as Vice-President of Strategy at the California Sun healthcare system with revenues in excess of $2 billion dollars.  Your organization is an 8 hospital system in a geographically clustered urban Southern California county and includes 3 primary care centers, 2 ambulatory surgical centers, 1 post-acute long-term care center, and 2 nursing homes.  Increasing pressure for quality as well as revenue are the origins for your role (to lead strategy and marketing) as the organization seeks to diversity and manage risk for patients.  Your CEO and Board Chair heard about the Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model through National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and the Next Generation Accountable Care Organization (ACO) model a Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) initiative.  Your task as the new VP of Strategy is to research the efficacy of these models, prepare a 1 page Executive Summary, PowerPoint Presentation (with narrative in the notes section) to the Governing Board and a Community Newsletter for your selected model recommendation.
