The Discussion Board is part of the core of online learning. The purpose of the Discussion Board is to allow you to learn through sharing ideas and experiences as they relate to course content and the Discussion Board question. Classroom discussion in an online environment requires your active participation with classmates and your instructor to create robust interaction and dialogue. Students are highly encouraged to engage on the Discussion Board early and often, as that is the primary way the university tracks class attendance and participation. Because it is not possible to engage in two-way dialogue after a conversation has ended, no posts to the DB will be accepted after the end of each unit.

At a minimum, you will be expected to complete 3 posts during the unit: 1 original response to the Discussion Board question and 2 posts responding to classmates, following these guidelines:

Your original post must be at least 200 words in length. It must reference the text or course learning materials at least once. Please note that even if the question asks for an opinion, you are still expected to support opinions with references to course materials and any other credible academic sources to support your opinions. Do not use Internet sources other than those provided in the course materials. APA format is not necessary for your Discussion Board when citing references, but you are required to acknowledge your resources: In the narrative, describe where information was obtained. For example, “As mentioned in Chapter 2 of the course textbook, prioritizing tasks is…” or “As mentioned in the intellipath lesson for Unit 2…”

Your two response posts must be at least 75 words in length. Responses should contribute to the conversation by being reflective, specific, and engaging. Quick responses (such as “I agree” or “Thank you!”) will not be counted as adequate.

Your first contribution must be posted before midnight CST (Central time) on Friday of each week. You must make 2 additional posts—on separate days between Saturday and Tuesday—before midnight CST. The original response and the peer responses can be completed in any order.

Assignment Details

A self-assessment and skill evaluation is essential to creating a career plan that will lead to a fulfilling career. Conduct a self-assessment and personal skills inventory on yourself (as described in the M.U.S.E. assets and the intellipath assignment).

Choose 2 attributes, desires, or skills that you have, and discuss how they have shaped or could shape the type of career you would like to pursue.  This could be a desire to live in a certain location, earn a certain amount of money, use certain skills, or engage in certain activities.

Review the posts of other students, and respond to their list and chosen career path. State how the skills, desires, or attributes that they described are a good match for the career path they have chosen. Provide recommendations for career paths that utilize the same skills, desires, and attributes.

In your own words, post a response to the Discussion Board, and comment on at least 2 other postings. You will be graded on both level of engagement and the quality of the contribution to the discussion.

Have you ever been frustrated in making decisions on the job? This Discussion allows you to practice making a decision in a work situation by using various decision-making models. These models are intended to make the decision-making process easier by providing a framework for arriving at a wise solution.

Case Study: The Problem of Untimely Performance Evaluations

You are the manager of a department in a health care organization that has undergone significant closing of units and departments and redeployment of employees to other areas. Several staff members have been redeployed to your department within the past three months. It was your understanding that managers who had employees redeploying to other departments were to complete performance evaluations on the employees they were losing prior to their moving to another department in order to be fair to the employees. During the last accreditation visit from The Joint Commission, your health care organization was cited for lack of timeliness in completing employee performance evaluations. Following that visit, two and a half years ago, Human Resources and all of the system managers were taken to task and told that employee performance evaluations will be completed on time.

In preparation for an anticipated reaccreditation survey visit from The Joint Commission, the Human Resources Department has done an audit of personnel files and determined that four of the five staff members who were redeployed to your department did not have performance evaluations completed by their previous supervisors. Three of those four evaluations are now overdue, and the HR staff is coming to you as the current supervisor to resolve the problem. If those files are requested for review by the surveyors, the lack of timeliness in the completion of those evaluations will reflect poorly on you, as well as on the organization as a whole.

The options that immediately came to mind are that you could:

• Complete a performance evaluation now.
• Have the previous supervisor(s) complete the performance evaluation since the employees have been in your department only for a few months.

• What decision-making model did you use?
• Using that model, how did you arrive at the decision?
• Name one benefit and one challenge to the type of decision-making process you used.

a.  Argue one point of support for thesis (clearly stated in a strong topic sentence) with cited research data that supports the point

WHY:   The Recommendation Report, an informative, analytical business document, uses facts from research to persuade an audience to take action in response to a defined issue or need.  Recommendation Reports:

·  communicate a recommended solution or plan of action from one organization to another;

·  communicate a recommended solution or plan of action from an individual to an organization;

·  solve an internal problem.

This assignment allows you to demonstrate understanding of rhetorical appeals and definitions used in business communication through a formal, written report.  It reinforces knowledge of writing as a process in which you use personal and collaborative revision and editing skills in service of substantive revision.

A question that I am interested in investigating is what is the task that most nurses find difficulty working on in the ICU unit?

There are  four major types of qualitative research: phenomenology, grounded theory, ethnography, and historical (Mauk, 2019) Phenomenology consists of qualitative research that describes the lived experience to acquire understanding of an experience from the perspective of the participants (Mauk, 2019). On the other hand, grounded theory is a type of qualitative research that examines the process of a phenomenon and concludes in the generation of a theory. A question that can describe this design is “What is the process of recovery following breast cancer?” (Mauk, 2019). In addition, Ethnography emphasizes on the basis of culture such as different practices for different cultures (Mauk, 2019). Lastly, Historical design examines events or people to explain and understand the past to guide the present and future, for example they ask questions about ancient beliefs about diseases and the impact it has had on the medical field.

Grounded theory is the most appropriate for my qualitative research question because this method is most commonly used in areas where there is little or no previous research (Mauk, 2019). Grounded theory can be used by nurses to explore a phenomenon about which little is known.
