M2 Assignment 2: The Time Value of Money—Preparing for Home Ownership

Assignment 2: The Time Value of Money—Preparing for Home Ownership

Upon graduating from Argosy University with a degree in Finance, John Simple found a great job as a banking officer with Capital Two Bank in Dallas. Although he and his partner Joan had several college loans that required payments, their goal was to set aside funds for the next five years so that they could get out of the small apartment in Irving, Texas. After reviewing the listings in the areas surrounding DFW and speaking to their bosses about possible transfers, John and Joan decided upon Plano as their desired future location for a home.

Based on house prices they received from a local realtor, they determined that the home they needed currently costs around $178,000 which includes 2% closing costs. To avoid paying Private Mortgage Insurance, John and Joan need to make a down payment of 20%. Since they are saving for the potential purchase, it will be five years before they buy the home. This gives them time to save for the down payment, moving, and furniture costs, which they estimate will be 10% more than the required down payment. They also expect home prices in Plano to continue to increase each year at 2.5% per annum rate as presented by their realtor.

John, being the finance graduate, wanted to adequately prepare for their future purchase and told Joan that he would take all this information and present an overview of how much would be required once their estimated purchase date became a reality. In addition, John would show how much money they needed to save each month in their house investment account at E-Trade, which averages 5% annual return.

Tasks:

Write a 2–3-page paper where you answer the questions above. Make sure you identify the question and then respond showing all calculations using math or Excel functions.

  1. What is the estimated purchase price of the home in 5 years?
  2. How much would need to be saved for the down payment?
  3. How much would need to be saved for closing, moving, and furniture costs?
  4. Considering that they have $10,000 already saved (half of which was provided by Joan’s parents as a wedding gift), how much money do they need to save each month to reach their goal?
  5. Suppose John could change investment plans at E-Trade and earn an additional 1.5% per annum without additional risk, how much money do they need to save each month to reach their goal? How much in investment dollars would they save by increasing their investment percentage?

Hello Class,

The film I chose is Moonlight. The actors in this film that I chose to write about are Alex Hibbert, who played the younger version of Chiron, Jharrel Jerome, who played Kevin at the age of 16, and Mahershala Ali, who played Juan. The style of Alex Hibbert in this film is a vulnerable, scared little boy who is lost, trying to find who he was and his identity in this world. He was bullied throughout his life and felt alone, trying to fit in, in different phases of his life. Jharrel Jerome style in this film was a confident, tough, and fearless teenager who shared an intimate relationship with the main character (Chiron). Mahershala Ali played a drug dealer who became a father figure for Chiron, a wise, caring man with a strong character. Relating their performance to other films, they all play important roles in other films, using the platform for change and opening sympathy through films, relating to real-life situations that can impact other people’s life to spread awareness of it. For example, Alex Hibbert played in The Chi, also trying to find his identity and trying to do the right thing, Jharrel Jerome played in When they see us, as one of the young teenagers who got falsely accused of a crime, showing his strength, courage, and determination throughout the film. Each of the actors played realistic acting, showing genuine human action and reaction, allowing the audience to feel and understand real-life events. Each of the actor’s choices impacted the development of each character because each stage of growing up required a different version of each character, and the actor’s fit well in the sense of showing vulnerability, fitting in as teenagers, and trying to figure out the world around them, acting tough, or scared to defend themselves.

( This scene is realistic acting when Mahershala Ali (Juan) actually teaching Alex Hibbert (Little Chiron) how to swim in real life. )

The movie I chose is Saving Private Ryan. This movie had an excellent cast line up including Tom Hanks, Matt Damen, and Vin Deisel. In this film, Tom Hanks is the strong leader, a role he plays in most of his movies. Some other examples are Apollo 13 and Captain Phillips. Matt Damen is usually a wise older man in the body of a baby-faced young male. A great example is Good Will Hunting. Finally, Vin Deisel following in his usual role of a tough, big-muscled, non-listening character who tends to do what he wants no matter the consequences. Their casting fits well as we are used to the characters having similar roles, and as viewers, we know what to expect from their casted part.

The costuming and makeup in the film are realistic and accurate to the period the movie is taking place. In addition, all of the actors have very similar attire as they are all soldiers with the same uniforms, other than their specif rank markings. Each character may have an extra item or short an item depending on their personality and what they would have brought with them during the travel. This costume approach also helps us get to know the characters without them even speaking and shows that even the slightest change in attire can change our view of the characters.

Vin Deisel sticks out as a type-casted actor. He is a big guy who is strong, with large muscles, and can typically beat up anyone who gets in his way. As stated before, almost all of his characters’ roles tend to break the rules and do their own thing. Other movie examples include the Fast and the Furious series, xXx, and The Chronicles of Riddick.

Module 05 Written Assignment – Payroll Transactions

QB Cloud has become quite successful over the past months, so you’ve decided to hire two part-time employees to assist you with sales and office duties. In researching your computerized accounting program, you’ve found that it doesn’t include the options to perform payroll calculations and print paychecks. To computerize the payroll calculations and assist you in drafting the journal entries, you decide to use Microsoft Excel for the necessary payroll functions.

  1. Calculate payroll for Karen Rodriguez and Adam Seyd for the June 14th and June 28th payrolls. These employees are paid bi-weekly, meaning every other week.
  2. Journalize the transactions necessary to record the payroll.
    • Address the following questions:
    • What is the total cost to the company of having these two employees for the month of June?
    • What additional costs would be associated with adding one more employee for 10 hours per week at $15 per hour? Would it be more beneficial to add an additional part time employee or distribute the additional hours needed to the current part time employees? Explain.

student response. ONLY Paragraph in length

All parties in America have a central element and that is their ability to attract thousands of small contributions through mass mailings to likely party supporters, Hershey(75). Hershey then points out that this ability allowed the national party an independent financial base. (75) Then in the 1960s the two parties wanted to increase every aspect of their parties from contributions to finding the most qualified candidates.

The first was the service party path followed first by the RNC. The foundation of this strategy was implemented in the 1960s by RNC chair Ray Bliss and was continued later by chairman Brock until the 1970s as a means to reviving the party post water-gate. (75) There were two keys to success in performing this new service role: money and campaign technology. (76) The republicans used direct-mail appeals that brought in larger levels of income. The example the book provides is that the RNC fund-raising jumped from $29 million to $105.9 million within the next few years.(76) This strategy offered a broad array of services from candidates to local party organizations. State and local party leaders were glad to accept the help since the party worked closely to identify with the business community. A great example of this strategy was the 1980 presidential election. The republicans suffered huge losses in the house and senate after water-gate and eventually cost them the White House. After only four years the republicans were able to take back the White House in the 1980 election largely due to the service party path.

Like the service party the democrats came up with there own plan to grow and expand their parties role in the 1960s. The democrats had a larger problem due to the diversity within their own party. You had reformers supporting the civil rights and opposing American involvement in Vietnam pushing the democratic party to change their view on these issues. This strategy was an effort to more “democratic” in the nominating process and in particular more representative of people like themselves such as: blacks, women, and young people.(76) The 1968 election was the first of the series of reforms which limited the autonomy of state parties and more authority to the national party for reason in my previous sentence. This change was not limited to democrats due to key court decisions that upheld these actions in certain states. State legislatures passed bills that implemented these reforms that applied to all parties within that state. By the 1970s the problems with this strategy became evident with several democrats staying home during conventions for the reason of feeling alienated. A great example would be the elections of 1980. After gaining large majorities in the house and senate the democrats lose control of the senate. Part of this was due to the republicans raising large sums of money and allowing the state parties use it in ways they deem necessary. The other part was have divided the democratic party was over their new Procedural-reform path. Democrats having the White House and both chambers of congress and not accomplishing much didn’t help either. The democratic party eventually adopted the service path.

Its pretty evident to which path worked. The service path allowed the state and local party to have something to say in decisions, while the procedural-reform path put the majority of the decisions in the hands of the national party. Who knows best in state and local elections? Who knows more about the way people think and behave? The people that are there, the people that are closer and on the ground. The service path offered support to local and state elections. The procedural-reform path offered solutions, but what works in one area of the country will not work in another. Todays elections require more money than ever to be raised and the service path proved that it was better at raising money. I believe results speak for themselves, and the democrats adopted their own form of the service party strategy.

Oral Language Development or Phonemic Awareness Lesson Plan

Special education teachers must be well versed in using performance data to identify students whose literacy skills are below grade level. Gaining insight into students’ academic strengths and needs will help educators plan appropriate instruction to assist students in making positive academic growth.

Using the “Class Profile,” identify a group of 3-4 elementary students who would benefit from an oral language development or phonemic awareness lesson. Determine a K-2 grade level for your group of fictional students, select an ELA standard from your state related to Oral Language Development or Phonemic Awareness, and then select a corresponding grade-level text appropriate for use in a lesson plan for the determined group. You may use Appendix B of the Common Core English Language Arts Standards to help you determine an appropriate text for the lesson.

With your choices in mind, use the “COE Lesson Plan Template” to design a lesson on oral language development or phonemic awareness, utilizing storytelling, dramatic play, or a read-aloud as an instructional strategy. Thoroughly script the “Multiple Means of Engagement” section, emphasizing the use of questions to access student’s background knowledge and abilities to build new skills and develop common understanding through shared, concrete experiences.

Upon completion of your lesson plan, compose a 250-500 word summary, rationalizing how your instructional decisions help your group students to flourish in the classroom, as opposed to just survive. Be sure to address how you will use your findings in your future professional practice.

 complete the work sheet plagiarism

Respond to the following scenario with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. Be substantive and clear, and use research to reinforce your ideas.

Over lunch, you and Mary meet to discuss next steps with the expansion project.

“Do we have everything we need on sales and costs?” you ask. ”It must be time to compute the net present value (NPV) and internal rate of return (IRR) of the Apix expansion project.”
“We have the data from James and Luke regarding projected sales and costs, respectively, for the food packaging project,” says Mary. “It is feasible to project that we will receive a tax break from this implementation. I have information from our audit firm that indicates that future depreciation methods for taxes will be straight-line; however, the corporate rates will be reduced to 35% as we assumed in our weighted average cost of capital (WACC) calculation.”
“That sounds good,” you say.
“Right,” says Mary. “You can use a WACC of 10% for the computation of the NPV and comparison for IRR.”
“I’ve got the information I need from Luke and James,” you say. “Does this look right to you? Here’s what they gave me,” you say, as you hand a sheet of paper to Mary.“Let’s look at this now while we’re together,” she says.

The information you hand to Mary shows the following:

  • Initial investment outlay of $30 million, consisting of $25 million for equipment and $5 million for net working capital (NWC) (plastic substrate and ink inventory); NWC recoverable in terminal year
  • Project and equipment life: 5 years
  • Sales: $25 million per year for five years
  • Assume gross margin of 60% (exclusive of depreciation)
  • Depreciation: Straight-line for tax purposes
  • Selling, general, and administrative expenses: 10% of sales
  • Tax rate: 35%

You continue your conversation.

“It looks good,” says Mary. “Use this information from Luke and James to compute the cash flows for the project.”
“No problem,” you say.
“Then, compute NPV and IRR of the project using the Excel spreadsheet I sent earlier today,” says Mary. “Use the IRR financial function for the computation of IRR.”
“Okay,” you say. “I’ll submit my Excel file showing the computation of cash flows, NPV, and IRR by the end of week so you can look at it over the weekend.”
“Thanks,” says Mary.

Complete the above worksheet for this assignment.
