Business statistics lab assignment 4

looking for someone to do the lab work for business statistics. Using (R)

see Labwork 4 for instructions

Here is some clarification on lab-4.

  1. In problem 1, this is a multiple regression model. You are supposed to run a regression of Price (dependent variable) with other independents variables (Food, Décor, Service, and East).
  2. when you run the regression model, make sure you report coefficient of the independent variables are significant or not.
  3. Problem-2-part(a), you are supposed to make a correlation matrix. Use R code cor(data name) to get the correlation matrix.
  4. Problem-2-part(b), simple linear regression, regress Price (dependent variable) on Rooms (independent variable), observe whether rooms is significant or not.
  5. Problem-2-part(c), multiple linear regression, regress Price on Home size, Lot size, Rooms, and Bathroom. Now Room is significant or not check that-To check the significance look at P-value (if P-value is less than 0.05, it is significant at 95% confidence level otherwise it is not significant)
  6. Problem-3-part(a) descriptive statistics, use summary (data name) Rcode.
  7. Problem-3-part(b), run two simple linear regression

    (i)regress Amount charge on income

  1. Regress Amount charge on household size. Now which is better, you can compare R^2 and slope.

      (8) In problem-3 part(c), now use multiple regression regress amount charge on income and household size.

      (9) In problem-4, You are supposed to regress sales on 11 dummies ( Jan through Nov). You don’t need to create dummies. I have uploaded the new data set Vintage_new in the data folder in Blackboard.

Now regress Sales on 11 dummies.

lm(Sales~D1+D2+…..+D11), find the predicted value for Jan

Also, the actual value for Jan is given 295,000

Forecast error= Actual value – Predicted value

Online Forum Discussion:

Staci Sutter works as an analyst for Independent Investment Bank Shares (IIBS), which is a large investment banking organization. She has been evaluating an initial public offering (IPO) that IIBS is handling for a technology company named ProTech Incorporated.  Staci is essentially finished with her analysis, and she is ready to estimate the price for which the stock should be offered when it is issued next week. According to her analysis, Staci has concluded that ProTech is financially strong and is expected to remain financially strong long into the future. In fact, the figures provided by ProTech suggest that the firm’s growth will exceed 30% during the next 5 years. For these reasons, Staci is considering assigning a value of $35 per share to ProTech’s stock.

Staci, however, has an uneasy feeling about the validity of the financial figures she has been evaluating. She believes that Protech’s CFO has given her what he believes are “quality financial statements”. Yesterday Staci received an email from a friend, who was an executive at ProTech until he was fired a few months ago, that suggests that the company has been artificially inflating its sales by selling products to an affiliate company and then repurchasing the same items a few months later. At the same time, Staci received a memo from her boss, Mr. Baker, who has made it clear that he thinks the ProTech IPO can be extremely profitable to top management “if it is handled correctly.” In his memo, Mr. Baker indicates that the issue price of ProTech’s stock must be at least $34 per share for the IPO to be considered successful by IIBS.

Part of Staci’s uneasiness stems from the fact that a coworker confided that she had seen the CEO of ProTech and his wife at an amusement park with Mr. Baker and his wife last month. If she discovers that ProTech’s sales figures are inflated, Staci surely would assign a different value to the company’s stock for the IPO. But it will take her at least two weeks to completely reevaluate the company using different data. Staci knows that if she stays with her current analysis and she is wrong, the consequences can destroy IIBS because reputation is important in the investment banking business.

If you were in Staci’s situation, what would you do? (Please address in your initial post the following: (1) What is the ethical dilemma?  (2) Should IIBS delay the Protech’s IPO until more information can be gathered about “information” Staci received recently and (3) What action do you think Staci, IIBS, or both should take?

Computer Assessment

This project lets you look at the computer you are using to determine its’ capabilities and abilities, as there is a lot of variation available. Read this all through to the end once before you try it.

2. First, determine and write down the following hardware information about your computer:

  1. What type –  WIndows, Mac or Chromebook is it? Who was the manufacturer and what is the model?
  2. What is the type of processor (CPU) and what is the CPU speed and number of cores?
  3. How much RAM is on your computer?
  4. How large is the hard drive (or SSD, if you have one instead)?
  5. Does it have an optical storage device? What type?
  6. How large is the monitor screen? What is the maximum video resolution available? What graphics processor or card is used?
  7. Does it have a touchscreen? A webcam? Bluetooth?
  8. What sound/audio hardware does your computer have?
  9. How many external ports (where you can plug things in) does it have, and what types are they?
  10. What OS is it running?

3. Now, consider all of the above and write a detailed, several sentence answer to each of the following, stating a position and defending it with arguments/evidence. These are worth 10 points each, so be thorough!
  * You may have to do some research on the Internet to find useful information for these.
  * These questions refer to your hardware “right now, as is” – not if you get some extra parts or upgrades. You may need to add software but that’s NOT a part of the question.

  A. Can your computer be used for everyday average operations such as writing a paper, surfing the web and purchasing items and sending E-Mails?
  B. Can your computer be used for video conferencing with a group?
  C. Can your computer be used to play the latest, high performance, most powerful video game available?
  D. You’re in a band and you have fellow musicians and equipment and even cameras. Can your computer be used to create a professional music video track (“song”)  for sale?
(More then just point a phone cam at a performance and post it on YouTube.)

4. Your project will be graded according to the following rubric:

Requirements
Max Points Possible
10 numbered questions each answered completely, reasonably and accurately, 2 point each
20
4 lettered questions, each answered completely, reasonably and accurately, 10 points each

Assignment: Teamwork at Salty Pawz

Wanda has been running Salty Pawz out of her home with the help of just a few friends. She is now considering expanding the business, which means hiring new people and delegating tasks. She read a magazine article about the effectiveness of teams in the workplace, and she has decided to create teams as soon as she hires her new staff. However, the only teams Wanda knows much about are NFL teams.

She has provided you with a list of the positions she is thinking of adding as she expands Salty Pawz:

  • 1 full-time treat baker
  • 2 part-time baking assistants
  • 1 full-time sales manager
  • 2 part-time retail clerks
  • 1 part-time bookkeeper
  • 1 full-time office/administrative assistant
  • 1 customer service representative
  • 1 part-time marketing and promotions manager
  • 1 part-time shipping/receiving clerk
  • 1 part-time Web master/tech support person

She asks you to recommend a structure and organize her employees into teams, since she doesn’t think letting them pick which team they want to be on is a good idea.

Your Task

  1. Explain to Wanda the team structure options she can consider once she expands the business, and make specific suggestions about how you would organize her workforce based on the type/structure of teams you recommend.
  2. Give Wanda concrete and specific information about the developmental stages she should expect her new teams to go through once they are established. Be sure to consider the types of work each employee will be performing and, when describing the stages of team development, explain how he or she will need to interact to become a high-functioning team member.
  3. When providing Wanda with the information above, also be certain to point out the consequences of poor teamwork and give her specific ways she can support these teams to make them successful.

In this week’s lecture we discussed the communication process. The communication process is a dynamic two-way exchange of information requiring both parties to seek meaning, sending and receiving, providing ongoing feedback through various channels while paying attention to the barriers to communication in the form of noise.

When communication is clearly sent and received working and personal relationships are able to function at optimal levels. When communication breaks down, for a variety of different reasons, the door to conflict opens wide.

Noise gets in the way of clarity. As discussed, noise comes in many forms, both obvious and subtle. In the communication process, we need to pay attention to noise and seek ways to reduce, minimize or eliminate it if we want to improve the communication process.

For your initial post, find and share a communication example that produced less than desirable outcomes, i.e. a bad example of communication. This example can be personal or sourced from the media, TV or the internet.

 1.  Describe the setting, the persons involved, what was said or not said and analyze what you think caused the miscommunication.

2.  What examples of noise (perceptions, beliefs, volume of information, miss information) can you identify in this example? Explain.

3.  What would you recommend to the persons involved to get a different, positive result?

4.  From this example and this week’s lecture, how might you approach communicating differently in the future?

Use articles or your textbook to cite support for your approach for the future.

Make sure you move beyond opinion and towards supported assertions.

Educational Psychology – Teaching Movie Analysis

Find a movie that has a teacher as one of the main protagonists..and the plot involves teaching in some capacity.

Here are a few suggestions…

Mr. Holland’s Opus

Stand and Deliver

Dead Poet’s Society

Dangerous Minds

(I’m sure you can find many others)

Discuss the relationship between the main characters, the events, and the plot of the movie to the concepts and theorists we have discussed in Module 1.

Here is an outline:

  • Cognitive Development
  • The Self, Social, and Moral Development
  • Learner Differences and Learning Needs
  • Language Development, Language Diversity, and Immigrant Education
  • Culture and Diversity

There are many theorists and theories presented therein.

Grab some popcorn and think about these questions:

In relation to these above concepts…..

What concepts/theories can you identify?   How?  Why?

What is happening pedagogically?
What is effective, meaningful learning?  Why?

If you see a scenario in which the teaching is less than stellar…what advice can you offer?  ( you need not include actual in-text citations and reference list but do explain your rationale).

You should sound as if you are a professional educator discussing this movie (smile).

Name drop…if you know what I mean (smile).

Keep your response to two pages.

Compose as a WORD document or PDF and upload in the assignment link.  Do not submit as text.

Please have a look at the grading rubric for this assignment.

But above all…..HAVE FUN!!   These movies will never be the same….

Proposed Capstone Topic

XXXXX

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

Proposed Topic: Aviation safety data sharing.

What is the significance of your proposed topic? Shared aviation safety data can be aggregated and analyzed and the results used to enhance safety. In an effort to promote an open exchange of safety information to continuously improve aviation safety, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the aviation industry developed the Aviation Safety Information Analysis and Sharing (ASIAS)program. ASIAS has drawn together a wide variety of safety data and information sources across Government and industry, including voluntarily provided safety data. Confidentiality and non-punitive reporting are foundational values of ASIAS. Data is gathered from participants, then de-identified. This has encouraged participation in the program. Participants include Part 121 member air carriers, corporate/business operators, universities, manufacturers, and maintenance, repair, and overhaul organizations. In the example to follow aviation safety data sharing helped solve a problem; In the course of a routine inspection, Airline C discovered a cracked engine mounting bolt that could have led to an overstress of the engine mounting and an in-flight loss of the engine. A check of incident reports on a safety information sharing system in which the airline participated revealed that two other operators had experienced the same problem and had concluded that the procedure for engine removal and replacement had the potential to overstress the mounting bolt if the engine was misaligned during replacement. These airlines had devised and adopted a different procedure for engine removal and replacement that avoided the potential problem. Airline C then adopted the new procedure and notified other operators of the same equipment participating in the safety information sharing system of the potential problem.

What are you trying to do with the capstone? Knowing the importance and benefits of sharing aviation safety data helps promote and encourage data sharing to improve safety and mitigate risks in aviation. The benefits derived from sharing safety information depend on the nature of the information that is shared. To be useful, it is necessary for an airline or participant to be able to tell whether the circumstances that generated the information being shared are relevant to its operations. If data shared is useful and relevant it can be used for proactive safety measures to prevent similar occurrences.

Are the resources available to do a substantial literature review? Do I need special permission to use these resources? There are enough resources are available from the FAA, IATA, Flight Safety to mention but a few and I do not need special permission to use them.

Hypothesis

Null hypothesis: Safety data sharing has not benefited aviation safety

Alternative hypothesis: Safety data sharing has benefited aviation safety
