This project consists of:
1) An artwork that connects a topic from this semester with your own values and ethics.
2) An artist statement: A 1 page (max) write-up of the topical issue, a reflection of how your own values connect to this topic.
We will hold an art gallery-style exhibition online for the first part of the session in Week 14. We will then continue into an open Q&A session for final projects and presentations for the remainder of class time.

From the list of class topics, think about a specific topic/concern that resonated with you. How might you showcase your personal values in relation to this topic? How might you represent this topic, and create a personally meaningful work of art?

Part 1: Part one is an artistic representation of your professional values statement. This piece of art should be a reflection on our class activities/topics so far and should include a manifestation of your moral philosophy. This assignment can take many forms and be as complex as you’d like to make it.

By creating an artistic rending of your professional values, you give your workplace values more thought and take the exercise seriously. The end result can be whatever you’d like it to be. 

You may create: Poems, drawings/paintings (From charcoal, watercolors, crayon, to pencil sketches), collages, digital artwork, sculpture, etc.

Note: Please use any materials you have at home, at your disposal. You are in no way required to go to a store or to purchase additional materials. You can certainly create digital artworks, spoken word pieces, poems, collages, or other forms of art that utilize the tools at hand.

Deliverable 1: A picture /video/ file of your artwork to be uploaded to iLearn by Week 13.

Grading Rubric for Part 1: 5: Creativity and time well spent. | 3: solid effort, low in creativity. | 1-2: half-spirited effort.

Part 2: The second part is a reflection of your art piece. The assignment is a succinct 1-page personal values statement. You should cite a specific topic in the text and at least 2 other legitimate reference sources in your reflection. Please use APA format for the citations. 

The format of the statement can vary: it could be (1) a label or accompanying explanation of your art; 2) “All-employee” memos from a CEO; (3) Newspaper editorials; (4) Public speeches; (5) Values statements for your actual business, (6) Others

Deliverable 2: Your artist statement will be due on iLearn by Week 13.

5: Professionally written with no spelling/grammar errors. Clear references with citations. Identifies & convincingly articulates 2 or more moral frameworks to guide decisions.

In the United States, both the federal government and the states have authority to indict for criminal wrongdoing. The federal government and each state have their own criminal statutes, court system, prosecutors, and police agencies. Use your textbook, the Internet, and/or Strayer University Online Library (https://research.strayer.edu) to research articles from within the past three years on crime trial, prosecutor, and criminal investigator.
 

Write a 3-page paper in which you:

1. Put yourself in the role of a prosecutor and explain the importance of the final report to the prosecution of a case. Further, analyze the possible impact of poorly completed final reports on the prosecution of a case.

2. Review Figure 21.1, The Use of Evidence in the Stages of the Criminal Justice Process, in Chapter 21 of the text and specify the manner in which each stage of the criminal justice process helps to build a successfully litigated action. Provide a rationale to support the response.

3. Identify the three areas that Detective Richard Gautsch, a seasoned investigator, recommends an investigator focus on when giving courtroom testimony and discuss the importance of each area. 1.  One recent change on some nursing units has been the establishment of walking rounds to patient rooms during change of shift report. Using this model, the nurses, patient, and family members (if the patient wishes) are all involved in the exchange of information during the transition of care to the nurse coming on shift. Can you think of any other changes that you have observed in the healthcare setting that help to facilitate a PCC environment?

2.  Think about your own life. Do you act to prevent a disease or accident when you perceive that you are not susceptible to the disease or at risk for the accident?

3.  Have you ever been assigned to read a book that had so many big words in it that you had to keep the dictionary by your side? If it was assigned for school, you probably struggled through it for the sake of not failing the test, but what about if you were not being graded? Would you bother to read it? If you did read it because you knew it would help you, would you have enough understanding to actually apply the information?

Learning Objective:

Explain the ethical, cultural, economic, and social issues impacting the care women receive before, during, and after pregnancy. Understand how these issues can affect the health of women of childbearing age and their fetus in the United States.

Overview of Assignment:

Write a paper exploring the ethical, economic, cultural, and social issues that women of childbearing age face today in the United States. You can pick a topic that affects women in the childbearing stage of their lives and how it impacts the care received, their lives, their health, or the health of their fetus. Or you can explain each topic individually based on different topics. Overall, research how the ethical, economic, cultural, and social issues can impact women living in the United States. 

You may use your text and the Herzing library, however, you MUST USE at least 4 scholarly sources to support your ideas, at least one for each consideration you are discussing.

Paper Requirements:

Length and Elements: The length of this essay should only be 3-4 written pages and should include:

1) Introduction with specific thesis statement (i.e. The purpose of this paper is to…Make sure to introduce the four issues you will be discussing in your paper)

2) Body of Paper: discuss each of the following considerations in separate sections with the following headings:

a. Ethical Issues—explore the ethical issues that surround and confront the childbearing women in the United States (DO NOT discuss informed consent as this is not the type of ethical issue I am looking for, look for issues related to abortion, IVF, genetic testing, ect.)

b. Economic Issues—consider the economic (money related) barriers women face, including such topics as: insurance coverage or lack thereof, WIC, money for food, Medicaid, rural access to childbearing services, etc.

c. Cultural Issues—discuss the various cultural norms that can be found among the different cultures of people in Minnesota and how these different cultural norms can impact the care received during pregnancy 

d. Social Issues—consider health disparities a person experiences due to their social environment such as women of poverty, women of color, Amish women, being an immigrant (legal or illegal), being rich, teenagers experiencing pregnancy, ect  in the United States. Relate these specific social considerations to childbearing women and how it affects maternal morbidity and mortality.

3) Conclusion: Summarize your findings; re-emphasize the thesis of the paper without simply repeating it; and do not introduce new ideas here

4) Use proper grammar, spelling, and APA 6th edition formatting including a title and reference page (the title and reference pages do not count toward the page total).
