You will choose a business to observe either as an employee or as a customer/client. During this course, you will observe and evaluate the organization based on information you have learned about organizational culture. Be sure to refer to the articles you have read during this unit as well as the multimedia presentation about Company Culture in the Learning Activities area for Unit 6.

The Assignment will be comprised of a PowerPoint with narration about your experiences in the observation and your analysis of the organization. In addition, a transcript of the narration will also be needed to be included.

NOTE: The narration is a required element of this assignment and must be included to earn a grade for this assignment.

Bulleted Points on each slide should include brief points that identify the areas that will be addressed in the narration.

Your PowerPoint presentation should include a total of six slides using the following format:

Slide 1: Cover page that includes assignment title, your name, course, section number, and date.

Slide 2: Introduction of Company (1–2 minutes of narration)

The ‘New Normal’?

ARTICLE: David Gutiérrez, “The ‘New Normal’? Reflecting on the Shifting Politics of the Immigration Debate,” International Labor and Working-Class History, Fall 2010

In this article Gutiérrez writes about what policy makers in Washington fail to see (most likely because they are blinded in their discussions about things like family reunification, what to do about “illegal” immigration, DACA, and things of that nature). The real issue, writes Gutiérrez, is “the ongoing destructive trend of the hyper-exploitation of all workers in an increasingly integrated global economy, regardless of citizenship of specific workers – and therefore, also, the erosion of the institution of citizenship as a source of political power and guarantor of rights” (121).

On the first page of the article, Gutiérrez writes that discussions about things like expulsion of “illegal” immigrants and who gets to be a citizen (“paths to citizenship”) obscures the underlying issue of “capitalist economic development.”  He expands on his argument about capitalist economic development when he writes that “the driving dynamic in today’s political economy is the constant pressure on American employers to find sources of labor from which they can wring profits at a rate comparable to foreign employers”(120). Which foreign employers does he mean? And what does he mean in his last sentence in the paragraph — “In this world a worker is a worker however you dress her up.” – and what is the only logical conclusion?

prison education discussion 7

In 1994, Bill Clinton signed a law that placed a ban on people in state and federal prisons from receiving Pell Grants.   President Obama authorized an experimental program to allow certain  colleges to apply on behalf of individuals in prison for Pell  Grants and attend college courses while incarcerated.  Trump continued  the program.  On December 21, 2020 Congress moved to lift the  long-standing ban on federal student aid – specifically, the Pell grant  – for those who are incarcerated. See the article below:

Assignment Content

  1. Purpose
This assignment is intended to give you an opportunity to strengthen your skills in gathering and analyzing business-related information. It provides a deeper understanding of how companies can look at globalization as part of their strategic and operational plans. The assignment has two parts: one focused on information research and analysis, and the other is on applied analytics.

    Resources:

    • Microsoft Excel®
    • How Netflix Expanded to 190 Countries in 7 Years” from Harvard Business Review
    • Call Center Waiting Time
    • Part 1: Globalization and Information Research
Context: Companies that perform well in their country of origin usually consider expanding operations in new international markets. Deciding where, how, and when to expand is not an easy task, though.

Many issues need to be considered before crafting an expansion strategy and investing significant resources to this end, including:

    • the level of demand to be expected for the company’s products/services
    • presence of local competitors
    • the regulatory, economic, demographic, and political environments
    • Carefully researching and analyzing these and other factors can help mitigate the inherent risk associated with an overseas expansion strategy, thus increasing the likelihood of success.

As a data analyst in your company’s business development department, you’ve been tasked with the responsibility of recommending countries for international expansion. You’ll write a report to the company’s executive team with your research, analysis, and recommendations.

      Instructions:
Write a 525-word summary covering the following items:

    • According to the article listed above, what were the most important strategic moves that propelled Netflix’s successful international expansion?
    • The article mentions investments in big data and analytics as one of the elements accompanying the second phase of overseas expansion. Why was this investment important? What type of information did Netflix derive from the data collected?
    • According to the article, what is exponential globalization?
    • Not all international expansion strategies are a resounding success, however. Research an article or video that discusses an instance in which an American company’s expansion efforts in another country failed. According to the article/video you selected, what were the main reasons for this failure? Do you agree with this assessment?
    • Explain some of the reasons why certain companies’ expansion plans have failed in the past.
    • Part 2: Hypothesis testing
Context: Your organization is evaluating the quality of its call center operations. One of the most important metrics in a call center is Time in Queue (TiQ), which is the time a customer has to wait before he/she is serviced by a Customer Service Representative (CSR). If a customer has to wait for too long, he/she is more likely to get discouraged and hang up. Furthermore, customers who have to wait too long in the queue typically report a negative overall experience with the call. You’ve conducted an exhaustive literature review and found that the average TiQ in your industry is 2.5 minutes (150 seconds).

Another important metric is Service Time (ST), also known as Handle Time, which is the time a CSR spends servicing the customer. CSR’s with more experience and deeper knowledge tend to resolve customer calls faster. Companies can improve average ST by providing more training to their CSR’s or even by channeling calls according to area of expertise. Last month your company had an average ST of approximately 3.5 minutes (210 seconds). In an effort to improve this metric, the company has implemented a new protocol that channels calls to CSR’s based on area of expertise. The new protocol (PE) is being tested side-by-side with the traditional (PT) protocol.

      Instructions:
Access the Call Center Waiting Time file. Each row in the database corresponds to a different call. The column variables are as follows:

    • ProtocolType: indicates protocol type, either PT or PE
    • QueueTime: Time in Queue, in seconds
    • ServiceTime: Service Time, in seconds
    • Perform a test of hypothesis to determine whether the average TiQ is lower than the industry standard of 2.5 minutes (150 seconds). Use a significance level of α=0.05.
    • Evaluate if the company should allocate more resources to improve its average TiQ.
    • Perform a test of hypothesis to determine whether the average ST with service protocol PE is lower than with the PT protocol. Use a significance level of α=0.05.
    • Assess if the new protocol served its purpose. (Hint: this should be a test of means for 2 independent groups.)
    • Submit your calculations and a 175-word summary of your conclusions.
    • Submit your assignment.

Deliverable 6 – Deviance Video Collage POWER POINT NO VIDEO (9-12 SLIDES)

 INCLUDE SPEAKER NOTES

Competency

This competency will allow you to demonstrate your understanding of deviance in the digital world and the changes to deviance that we see due to technological advances.

Instructions

You are working for a local department store in the Operations Department. Since you began working with this organization, you have noticed that your team members are more comfortable with technology. However, the available technology in the store has not been updated. It is also apparent to you that as technology has improved in our society, so has the types of deviant behaviors that occur, and you’re aware that deviant behaviors in both the physical world and in digital environments can impact business practices.

With the observations that you have made, you approach your boss who has also noticed an increase in deviant behaviors within society and has an overall concern about how the store can be impacted.

Because of his increasing concern about the impact of deviant behaviors on the store, and his knowledge of your familiarity with the subject, you are asked by your supervisor to create a video collage that will demonstrate your interpretation of deviance in the digital world and the impact it can have on the store you are working in. Your supervisor informs you that this video collage will be presented to your supervisor and colleagues in order to help you and the business determine the types of deviance that need to be addressed, and how to effectively manage it through daily operations. Your supervisor encourages you to use a variety of visual representations in order to captivate your audience and get your message across.

For this video collage, you are to reflect and address the following questions and information.

  • What is defined as deviant in the physical world?
  • What is defined as deviant in the digital or online world?
  • Compare and contrast deviance between the two environments.
  • Consider various forms of deviance in both the physical and virtual worlds, and explain how they impact society.
  • How would Conflict Theory define deviance?
  • How would Symbolic Interaction Theory define deviance?
  • How do the theories discussed impact the meaning or interpretation of deviance in a digital or online environment?
  • How do you envision that deviance in the virtual world, or deviance due to technological advances, can impact your store?
  • What are some ways to manage various forms of deviance in the day-to-day operations of your store?

INFANT DEVELOPMENT

The growth, development, and learned behaviours that occur during the first year of infancy have a direct effect on the individual throughout a lifetime. For this assignment, research an environmental factor that poses a threat to the health or safety of infants and develop a health promotion that can be presented to caregivers.

Create a 10-12 slide PowerPoint health promotion, with speaker notes, that outlines a teaching plan. For the presentation of your PowerPoint, use Loom to create a voice-over or a video. Include an additional slide for the Loom link at the beginning, and an additional slide for references at the end.

In developing your PowerPoint, take into consideration the health care literacy level of your target audience, as well as the demographic of the caregiver/patient (socioeconomic level, language, culture, and any other relevant characteristic of the caregiver) for which the presentation is tailored.

Include the following in your presentation:

1.  Describe the selected environmental factor. Explain how the environmental factor you selected can potentially affect the health or safety of infants.

2.  Create a health promotion plan that can be presented to caregivers to address the environmental factor and improve the overall health and well-being of infants.

3.  Offer recommendations on accident prevention and safety promotion as they relate to the selected environmental factor and the health or safety of infants.

4.  Offer examples, interventions, and suggestions from evidence-based research. At least three scholarly resources are required. Two of the three resources must be peer-reviewed and no more than 6 years old.

5.  Provide readers with two community resources, a national resource, and a Web-based resource. Include a brief description and contact information for each resource.

M2 Assignment 2 Submission

Assignment 2: Interview Methodologies

A good interviewer uses interview methodologies and techniques that not only help him or her build rapport with the interviewee but also drive the interview in a favorable direction. This assignment tests your understanding of various interview methodologies. It also focuses on the components of statement analysis—an important skill that helps detect deceit in an interviewee’s statements.

Tasks:

Using the Argosy University online library resources, prepare a 4- to 5-slide, APA-formatted Microsoft PowerPoint presentation that includes responses to Part 1 and Part 2.

Part 1

Use scholarly sources to compare any two of the following interviewing methodologies:

  • Structural interviews
  • Inferential interviews
  • Behavioral interviews
  • Cognitive interviews

Clearly define each methodology chosen and examine in what situations it may be appropriate.

Part 2

Explore the components of statement analysis—a complex skill that can help you determine the level of deception in a witness’s or a suspect’s statement. Identifying deception leads one to dig deeper, investigate further, and ask more, often difficult, direct questions.

Instructions

Consider the following example of a statement and its component:

StatementStatement Component”Decided to go for a walk. Got out there. Umm . . . stood for a few moments and received a page from home. Something was going on at home. Let’s go back and make a phone call and see what’s going on.Parts of speech, specifically missing pronouns

Analyze the following statements and identify as many applicable components of statement analysis as you can attribute to the deception:

  • “Got approached by a gentleman asking for money. When I addressed him, I was struck in the rear and knocked to the ground. Struggled with him. There was a shot that went off. Struggled with him, and there was another shot that went off. That was the shot that hit me.”
  • “On July 4, 2011, at about 4:00 p.m., came home from work and took a shower. Was getting ready to head out to some friends’ barbeque and party. My friends Jerry and Paul were having some people over for the Fourth of July. Sat down for a few minutes to watch television and relax. Had two beers until about 5:30 p.m.

“Put my feet up on the table when the doorbell rang. It was an ex-girlfriend, Sally. She sat down with me for a few minutes. They wanted to tell me about their new boyfriend. I wasn’t so happy about it; I didn’t really want to break up with her. I watched the race and argued some, and she left, at six or so.

“At about 7:00 p.m. drove to my friends’ place. They live in the country and it took me an hour to get there, arrived at eight or so. When we got to the party, there were about ten or twelve people there; they were pretty wasted already, and they were drinking most of the day. Sat down outside and had a few shots and several beers. It was hot, so I went inside, and I watched television to cool off. Drank about two more beers and talked with two girls that were friends of Jerry; they were friends of my ex-girlfriend as well. They stated that my ex had found another boyfriend and they were already talking marriage and children. I watched the car race for a while, by myself, and then went back outside to play horseshoes. I played a few games and had an argument with one of the other guys, and they wanted to fight, so went inside to cool down again.

“At about ten or eleven, one of the people at the party came to me to tell me that my ex, Sally, had been found outside her house, hurt and barely alive. She was taken to the hospital.

“I watched the end of the race, close to midnight, had a few more beers and left. Went directly home.”

NO PLAGIARISM. Due Tuesday May 29, 2018

pulmonary edema

Competency

Explain care for the client with lower respiratory disorders.

Instructions

Read the scenarios below and answer the questions. If you use sources, site them using APA format.

Case # 1

An elderly woman comes into the ER with severe dehydration after spending the day at the beach. The client is weak and feels like she is going to faint. An IV is started, and the RN hangs 0.9% Normal Saline. There are no IV pumps available. The client begins to feel better after 500 mL’s are infused, and the rest of the IV bag is infused. The client begins to have difficulty breathing. Auscultation of the lungs reveals crackles to ½ of the lower lung fields. The provider diagnoses pulmonary edema, and the client is treated with Lasix. She is stabilized but needs to be admitted to the ICU.

Question # 1: What nursing action could have prevented the client from having pulmonary edema? (5-10 sentences)

Question # 2: What makes this client at risk for pulmonary edema? (5-10 sentences)

Case # 2

A 22-year-old special-needs client comes to the ER with fever and difficulty breathing. The client weighs 66 LBS. The client is admitted with pneumonia and IV fluids, antibiotics, and respiratory treatments are started. The client is dehydrated, so she receives several bags of IV fluids over three days. On the third day, the client has worsening shortness of breath, and an X-ray is ordered which shows pulmonary edema. An echocardiogram is ordered. It shows normal cardiac function. The client is given Lasix, and the shortness of breath resolves.

Question # 3: How did the client’s size (body weight) put her at risk for pulmonary edema? (5-10 sentences)

Question # 4: How could pulmonary edema have been prevented in this client? (5-10 sentences)

Case # 3

A 32-year-old male with a history of cardiomyopathy is admitted to the medical-surgical floor with a diagnosis of flu. The client has a high fever and receives multiple bags of 0.9%NS. One day into the admission the client develops severe shortness of breath. An X-ray shows pulmonary edema.
