 DUE IN 36 HOURS

Metacognition (ASSIGNMENT 1)

Describe metacognition in your own words. What are some metacognitive skills that you utilize when learning something new? Why do you think it is important for students to have these skills? How can students be taught to think? Provide at least two examples. Utilize the text and any additional resources to support your response.

IDEAL Strategy (ASSIGNMENT 2)

Metacognitive skills allow students to become aware of their own learning process and choose among various cognitive strategies that will allow them to be self-regulated learners. One such cognitive skill is modeling for students how to effectively problem solve. You will model this cognitive tool by using the IDEAL problem-solving strategy found in Chapter 6.5: Approaches to Teaching Thinking.

Bobby is a student in your fifth grade class with autism. Bobby is extremely bright and can fully engage in assignments with much independence, except activities that involve group work. In most instances, he has difficulty working with others and tends to get angry when students don’t listen to him. Often times, you find him in the corner of the room pouting.

  1. Using the IDEAL strategy, develop a possible solution to this problem. Describe your solution and how you employed the IDEAL strategy, clearly listing the five steps.
  2. Reflecting on the IDEAL strategy, did you find the process helpful in solving a particular classroom dilemma? Why or why not?

Imagine that you have the perfect teaching job (you are teaching the grade level and content that you desire). Describe how you might teach the IDEAL strategy to your own students. Why would doing so be beneficial? What might reasonably go wrong?

Be sure to use the textbook with at least one other scholarly source to support your responses and include both an introduction and conclusion to your written assignment. Your paper should follow APA formatting guidelines as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center, be double spaced, three to five pages in length (not including title and reference pages), and written in Times New Roman 12 pt.

Please read chapter 17 from Daniel Kahneman’s book, Thinking, Fast and Slow, available on Blackboard. This chapter discusses the phenomenon of “regression to the mean” in depth. Next, review the following exercise, located on pg. 184 of the chapter:

Complete the table, accounting for regression to the mean. Do you understand why adding 10% to each store’s sales is not the correct forecast? If not, re-read chapter 17. This site can also help. Repeat this step until you arrive at the correct answers, and you can explain why they are correct

Part 1

1. Recruit five friends, family members, or acquaintances.

2. Ask them to complete the table, using the instructions provided above the table only (in other words, do not provide any other guidance, instructions, or hints).

3. Ask them to explain how they arrived at their answers. In other words, ask them for a commentary or a play-by-play of how they went from “read the instructions” to “filled out numbers in the table.”

4. Compile their data into one single spreadsheet, and include their responses (how they arrived at their answers). This spreadsheet will be submitted (see Part II, question b, below). See template here.

5. Interpret each respondent’s data. Make a new column and enter into this column a dichotomous categorical variable labeled Regression. A value of ‘0’ indicates respondent did not consider regression to the mean. A value of ‘1’ indicates respondent did consider regression to the mean. Tally the percentage that considered regression to the mean and hold on to this value (you’ll be reporting it later

Part 2

a. A definition of regression to the mean.

b. A copy of the spreadsheet containing your complete results for all five participants (data + responses). You should copy and paste the spreadsheet directly into your .doc or .pdf file.

c. The percentage value you derived in question #5 from Part I. From this value, extrapolate and report a conclusion about whether regression to the mean tends to be ignored or not when the average consumer predicts future performance from past behavior.

d. In this class, we have assumed that System 1 does not by default consider regression to the mean (i.e., we assume that if regression to the mean is considered, then System 2 must have jumped in). Using respondents’ verbal reports as evidence, discuss the merits of this assumption. For example, did anybody’s reports show evidence of System 2 overriding System 1? Did those respondents who failed to consider regression to the mean show evidence of System 2 thinking? Did those respondents who considered regression to the mean show evidence of arriving at these answers by default? Be sure to clearly define System 1 and System 2 in your discussion. We are looking for a reasoned and thoughtful response here; there are no right or wrong answers (except for the definitions of System 1 and System 2).

Critical Thinking Journal #5

Each chapter 1-5 of the common reader,  “A More Beautiful Question” by Warren Berger, has its independent titles, yet within each,  there is a question that addresses a different question.  The general initial questions (in this book) requesting a response or being responded to are  What If, Why, Why Not, How ?

So, what if ? why ? why not?, how ? is your Beautiful Question? Upon reading each chapter’s content, WHAT challenge does the content raise for you and what question(s) does it challenge you to seek information and an answer for?

It could be your own question, it could be a  question  proposed by the author. You decided.

TASK:  Journal 5 : ” Questioning for Life “

After reading pages 175 – 216  of A More Beautiful Question, Warren Berger, talk about  any thoughts, experiences, knowledge you have that corresponds to those of the author. What insights do you have about his information? What has peaked your interest on these pages ?

Write up to (2) pages, DOUBLE SPACED in TIMES NEW ROMAN, 12 FONT “ONLY” !!   This is NOT A Book Report. Do not regurgitate the author’s information ( unless you are using it to express a point ). Apply your thoughts, experiences, etc… Critically think  it out and write it out.  No judgements !

Importance of communication in a workplace

Please respond by agreeing with the writer

Every day, and at almost every minute, our work flow changes and so many roles must work together to make it a positive and healthy experience for our patients. Since my workplace ranked as a mildly healthy, there is some civility to the organization. I believe civility is present when management is involved in conflict. For example, if there is an issue between a nurse and a doctor, the manager of my unit will work with both parties to come up with a solution. When it comes to direct co-workers, less civility is present. For example, if a day shift RN is upset over the workload left behind by a night shift RN, staff are known to complain to one another and never directly speak with the other staff member in order to resolve the situation. From there, it creates an environment of hostility and gossip. For me, this incivility is being handled by the co-workers, like myself, who are taking the initiative to stop and redirect the management of those feelings. For example, recently a nurse was upset over medications not being given and interventions not being done by an off going RN. It was also an observed pattern of that staff member. I spoke with the frustrated RN and told them how I would handle that situation and it would be best to address it, away from other staff, when the returning nurse came back to the floor. Luckily, the nurse took my advice and handled the situation with respect. Both nurses came out of the situation in a better place.

8 Designing Qualitative Research Article 2

Please read instructions thoroughly!

This week, you will submit the annotation of a qualitative research article on a topic of your interest. Narrative, ethnographic, grounded theory, case study, and phenomenology are examples of types of research designs or approaches used in qualitative research.

An annotation consists of three separate paragraphs that cover three respective components: summary, analysis, and application. These three components convey the relevance and value of the source. As such, an annotation demonstrates your critical thinking about, and authority on, the source topic.

  • Before you read the full article and begin your annotation, locate the methodology section in the article to be sure that the article describes a qualitative study. Confirm that one of the types of qualitative research designs or approaches, such as narrative, ethnographic, grounded theory, case study, or phenomenology, was used in the study.
  • Annotate one qualitative research article from a peer-reviewed journal on a topic of your interest.
  • Provide the reference list entry for this article in APA Style followed by a three-paragraph annotation that includes:
  • Format your annotation in Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced. A separate References list page is not needed for this assignment.

project management with make

 the question is

The code in project2 is for a program that plays a simple game called Chomp.

The programmers of this project have opted to package some of their code in a “module” called chomp.adt, from which the related files cookie.h and cookie.cpp files can be generated.

The steps necessary to produce this program are:

  1. Run the command
    csplit chomp.adt "/Split Here/"
and copy the resulting file xx00 to cookie.h.
  2. Run the command
    csplit chomp.adt "/Split Here/"
and copy the resulting file xx01 to cookie.cpp.
  3. Compile cookie.cpp to produce cookie.o.
  4. Compile mainProg.cpp to produce mainProg.o.
  5. Link the the .o files to produce an executable program named playChomp

Write a makefile that will carry out these steps. Your makefile should result in only the minimum required amount of steps when any input file to this process is changed. (Note: you will probably not be able to base this makefile upon my self-updating makefile as in the earlier part of the assignment. Instead, you will probably find it necessary to write this one from scratch.

_________________________________________________

I am currently having an issuewith the question above. I am meant to create a makefile that runsthe program like stated above, and currently this is mymakefile:

all: cookie.h cookie.cpp playChomp cookie.o mainProg.o

cookie.h: chomp.adt
csplit chomp.adt “/Split Here/”
cp xx00 cookie.h
cp xx01 cookie.cpp

playChomp: cookie.o mainProg.o
g++ -o playChomp cookie.o mainProg.o

cookie.o: cookie.cpp
g++ -c cookie.cpp

mainProg.o: mainProg.cpp
g++ -c mainProg.cpp

However, I am receiving this error code:

Your makefile does not build playChomp in 3 distinct g++ stepswhen chomp.adt has been changed:
csplit chomp.adt “/Split Here/”
1372
8632
cp xx00 cookie.h
cp xx01 cookie.cpp
g++ -c cookie.cpp
g++ -o playChomp cookie.o mainProg.o

is there anything that I can do to fix my makefile?

Blog

Imagine you are a political writer with your own blog. You write about current events and what they mean for the U.S. government and its citizens. For this blog post you will choose an event from the last three months involving U.S. political issues or policies related to one of the following:

  • The U.S. President.
  • Congress.
  • Administrative departments.
  • Political activists.
  • Judicial rulings.
  • A campaign.
  • An election.

Next, choose one reputable news source that has reported on your chosen event. Be sure it is a news source that offers well-written and well-researched news. It is recommended that you choose from one of the following news sources:

  • Liberal leaning news: The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, Vox, HuffPost, Politico, CNN, Time Magazine.
  • Conservative leaning news: National Review, The Washington Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Federalist, Fox Online News, Washington Examiner.
  • Centrist News: NPR Online News (National Public Radio), Reuters, BBC, CNBC News, USA Today, Christian Science Monitor, Pew Research Center.

To see ratings of news sources, visit Media Bias Ratings.

For the first part of your blog post, provide a brief summary of your chosen current event. You should be conscious of your own bias and make every effort to avoid biased, opinionated, emotional, or judgmental language in this summary. That means avoiding words such as “always,” “obviously,” “clearly,” etc.

This PDF contains helpful tips for avoiding judgment statements: Objective Language [PDF].

In addition to providing a brief summary of your chosen current event, your blog post should answer each of the following questions:

  1. What specific branch of the U.S. government is involved in this current event?
  2. Who or which groups are affected by this event?
  3. What biases or leanings exist in the media source you chose? Give examples. Were these counterbalanced in any way?
  4. What are your opinions on the issue?

Your blog post should be typed in a Word document and meet the following requirements:

  • A one- to two-paragraph summary of your chosen current event.
  • One to two paragraphs for each of the four questions provided (see above), for a total of at least four paragraphs.
  • Content of the blog is based on information from your selected news source or other reputable sources.
  • Two to three pages in length.
  • At least one quality reference (your selected news article) cited using the Strayer Writing Standards.

English Assignment 9

Week 9 Assignment – Professional Experience: Promotional Message

Overview

The Professional Experience assignments have been designed to help prepare you for communicating in a professional work setting. When you are writing in the workplace, it is essential to make sure that you carefully follow any specific directions you receive. Sending poorly formatted or poorly written communications to managers or coworkers is not something you want to do! To earn full credit, make sure you complete all elements and follow the instructions exactly as written. Assignments that follow directions as written will receive full credit.

If you submit your Professional Experience assignment before the due date and you are not satisfied with your grade, you may resubmit it one time before the due date for a new grade.

For this Professional Experience, you will develop a promotional message. This can be an e-mail, letter, infographic, image, or any other relevant material that explains why students should take a professional communications course.

Instructions

  • Choose the application you want to use to develop your promotional message (Word, PowerPoint, etc.). Your message should take the form of a block letter, e-mail, flyer, poster, or similar and not just be a paragraph on a page with no context.
