Strategic Value of Employee Benefits Programs

Instructions

To  attract, motivate, and retain good workers, companies need to define  what an employee wants from the employment relationship. One way to  define employee needs is to consider “total rewards,” which are  everything an employee perceives to be of value resulting from working  for the company. Benefits are a core element of total rewards and the  ever-growing package of offerings have evolved. You must now work with  the company to define precisely where the various programs will be  categorized.

Write a six- to seven-page paper in which you do the following:

  • Identify  and discuss at least three important variables that almost always  should be considered by organizations when providing employee benefits  programs. Be sure the response is specific and relevant.
  • Compare  and contrast income protection programs and pay for time not worked  programs, both of which are usual elements of benefits programs. How are  the programs similar? Are they mandatory?
  • Research  and discuss at least four to five of what may be referred as “Other  Benefits” that you could recommend to the management team as necessary  elements for the benefits package. Hint: Flextime and product or service  discounts are good examples.
  • Develop  an employee benefits package for any exempt or non-exempt position  level of your choosing, making sure you support the selection of your  program elements. Note: The  preferred method for presenting your benefits package information is  using a table or exhibit, but either approach is not  mandatory. Examples:US Bank Benefits at a Glance and UW-Madison New Employee Benefits Summary

Select a Topic for Your Critical Review

Select the topic for your Critical Review, which is due in Week Six, and briefly analyze its key features and pathophysiology. You may select from any of the following psychiatric disorders: schizophrenia (or schizotypal disorders), bipolar disorder, depression, any of the anxiety disorders, PTSD, chronic pain disorders, Alzheimer’s disease,  Parkinson’s disease or other movement disorder, seizures, ADD/ADHD, autism, OCD, any personality disorder, brain trauma, stroke, encephalitis, meningitis, or migraines.  Other topics may be chosen, with approval of your instructor.

Other topics may be considered but require prior approval by the instructor. However, addiction is not the emphasis of the course. Critical Reviews focusing on addiction, or drugs of addiction, will not be accepted. Your paper must focus on drug treatment and not on other modes of treatment. Papers that discuss psychotherapy, other than in passing, will not be given credit. Ask your instructor for clarification.

Explain your chosen psychiatric disorder in terms of neurotransmitter and receptor theories. Describe the symptomology of the disorder and its relationship with the neurotransmitters involved. Discuss the anatomic changes seen with the disorder. Explain the relationship between neurotransmitter and anatomic features and resultant symptoms. Summarize the interaction(s) between the behavioral, neuroanatomical, and neurotransmitter changes seen within the selected disorder.

The paper:

  • Must be three to five double-spaced pages in length (not including title and references pages) and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. (Links to an external site.)
  • Must include a separate title page with the following:
    • Title of paper

Complete Project

Project Description:

You are the recruiter for a company (this could be a company you would like to work for in the

future.) You will research the company and positions within the company that are of interest to

you. Based on your research, create a report in Word that gives thorough information on the

information you find. For example, you could write a report that describes the company’s

history/background, structure/organization, departments, products/services, positions/job titles,

employees’ qualifications, job benefits, or job outlook/trend. Create an Excel workbook based

on data you believe the company would want to compile and perform calculations on.

Information must be relevant to the type of business/industry you choose. Create a PowerPoint

presentation summarizing your Word report and information in your Excel workbook. You will

also be integrating information between these files.

Part 1 – Microsoft WORD

1. After doing your research on the company, create a Word report that thoroughly and

clearly explains the information you find – for example an overview of your company,

background information, employment trends. (You can use the Internet and various job

sites to help in your research.)

Your report should be at least two pages but no more than four pages (before you add

other objects to it).

2. You should format the report (using APA guidelines or format)

a. Type your report. Include placeholders for objects that you will insert/integrate from

Excel. Your report should include at least two Excel objects (ex: chart or

worksheet).

b. Ensure that your paper includes at least two citations to credit sources you quoted

in the report (using APA format for the citations).

c. Your report should have a formatted title.

d. Your name should appear to the left in the footer. The date should appear in the

right of the footer.

3. Save you report using an appropriate filename.

Part 2 – Microsoft EXCEL

1. Think of the types of calculations that your company will need to do. Think about what

data will be needed to perform those calculations. Create an Excel workbook with

information that is relative to your Word report. For example, you can create a workbook

showing items ordered, or weekly sales, or weekly services. Make sure to include a

worksheet heading along with appropriate column and row headings.

2. Add the following as a minimum to your workbook:

o The worksheet title should be formatted and merged and centered across the

columns in your worksheet.

o Format all column headings/titles to be Bold and Centered.

o There should be calculations using relative references.

o There should be calculations using absolute references.

o There should be calculations using 5 of these functions: SUM, AVERAGE, MIN,

MAX, COUNT, COUNTA, ROUND.

o Format all monetary values to show appropriately.

o Create at least 2 charts to depict information on your worksheet. Include

appropriate chart titles.

o Attention to detail and design will be considered in scoring.

3. Include your name in the left section of the header and the filename and date in the left

and right sections respectively of the footer. Set the worksheet to vertical and horizontal

centering, and landscape orientation for printing.

4. Save your workbook using an appropriate name of your choice.

Part 3 – MS POWERPOINT

Create a PowerPoint Presentation highlighting the information included in your Word document

and Excel workbook (minimum of 8 slides):

1. The presentation should have a title slide with the name of your company’s, your name,

name of course, professor’s name, and the current date.

2. Create slides summarizing the information in your Word Report. The presentation slides

should be very concise highlighting points in your report.

3. Make sure to have a conclusion slide.

4. Integrate at least 1 Excel object into one of your slides.

5. Your slides should include text boxes and pictures.

6. There should be between 8 – 10 slides.

7. The entire presentation should have a slide design/theme, transitions, animations, and

timings.

8. Save the file using an appropriate file name.

Critical Analysis Portfolio JC

Overview: For the first part of your final project, the critical analysis portfolio, you will select an issue or event in diversity and critically analyze it through the four general education lenses: history, humanities, natural and applied sciences, and social sciences. By viewing the issue/event through these lenses, you will gain insight into how the intersectional nature of diversity affects society, as well as both your own individual framework of perception and the choices, attitudes, and behaviors of others in the world around you.

For this first milestone, due in Module Two, you will select an issue/event to analyze through the four general education lenses. You will explain the issue/event and its relationship to diversity, as well as describe its connection to all four lenses.

Prompt: First, review the module resources you have so far encountered, as well as your work in Module One. In addition, it is suggested that you visit the IDS 400 LibGuide for guidance on how to select a topic. Select one issue/event in diversity and write a paper that addresses how this issue/event fits into the framework of diversity, and then addresses how each lens influences perceptions and attitudes toward the issue/event, diversity, and society. The paper should outline each lens’s impact and framing of the issue/event. Be sure to provide a working thesis statement and clear definitions for your key terms.

Specifically, you must address the critical elements listed below.

I. Introduction: You will compile a series of critical analyses of a single issue/event in diversity through the four general education lenses: history, humanities, natural and applied sciences, and social sciences.

A. Topic: Using the four lenses, explain how an issue/event within diversity has or has not influenced modern society.
II. Lens Connections: In this section of your assignment, you will describe the connections between your issue/event and each of the four general education

lenses.

  1. What is the connection of your issue/event to the lens of history for determining its impact on various institutions? Utilize evidence from theory
and research to support your analysis.
  2. What is the connection of your issue/event to the lens of the humanities for determining its impact on various institutions? Utilize evidence from
theory and research to support your analysis.
  3. What is the connection of your issue/event to the lens of the natural sciences for determining its impact on various institutions? Utilize evidence
from theory and research to support your analysis.
  4. What is the connection of your issue/event to the lens of the social sciences for determining its impact on various institutions? Utilize evidence
from theory and research to support your analysis.

page1image1307346640

Be sure to begin the research process early and use evidence from your research to support your responses. Refer to course resources, the LibGuide for this class, and any other pertinent resources to support your responses. Although at least two sources are required for each lens, note that you may use the same source for more than one lens if applicable. Relevant current news sources may be used with instructor approval. Incorporate instructor feedback into your final project.

Rubric

Guidelines for Submission: Milestone One should be submitted as a 2- to 3-page Word document. Use double-spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins. Begin building your references list for Final Project Part One, which requires you to support your responses with at least two sources for each lens from the assigned course resources or other scholarly sources located independently via the Shapiro Library. Note that you may use the same source for more than one lens if applicable. Cite your supporting sources in APA style.
