The Psychomotor Domain

14. The Psychomotor Domain

Behaviors in this domain involve a wide variety of motor skills dependent upon physical ability and the coordination of movement.

Verbs for use in the psychomotor domain of learning include action, such as:

Fold

Open

Rotate

Spread

Close

Turn

Place

Unfold

Throw

Use

Draw

Coordinate

Insert

Align

Walk

Squeeze

Ambulate

Modify

Push/pull

Arrange

Weigh

The hierarchical sequence, from lowest to highest, are:

1.         Reflex Movements:

Reflex movement is concerned with involuntary movements in response to a stimuli.

2.         Basic Fundamental Movements:

Reflex movements appear to be instinctive and are not usually taught.  Movements found in babies:  reaching, grasping, crawling,

walking are all basic movements.

3.         Perceptual Abilities:

This level includes ability to feel and move, body awareness, visual and auditory discrimination.  These abilities are

effectively established when a student enters nursing.

4.         Physical Abilities:

This level relates to the body functioning properly in order for movements to be made easily and effectively.  Physical

abilities also include aspects such as endurance, strength, flexibility and dexterity.  Agility in movements begins to

develop with practice.  Learning to coordinate body movements when making a bed is a practiced skill.

5.         Skills Movements:

This level pertains to proficiency in performing a task.  It evolves from a simple to a complex level.  The skill level

progresses to an excellent performance. While classified as a psychomotor domain, the movements at this level

actually include both cognitive and affective behavior. Many nursing skills involve skilled movements:  The mixing

of medications in a syringe may involve cognitive understanding of the drugs ordered as well as complex mathematical

calculations and the psychomotor skills to draw up and administer the medication.

Question:

14.       Cite 2 verbs and 2 levels included in the Psychomotor domain of learning.

A.        Write two learning objectives for your primary specialty area, using 2 different levels of learning in this domain and 2 different verbs.

            1.

Express how the processes of curriculum alignment, curriculum audit, and curriculum mapping are separate – but all interplay.

REPLY TO MY CLASSMATE’S RESPONSE TO THE ABOVE QUESTION AND EXPLAIN WHY YOU AGREE? (A MINIMUM OF 125 WORDS EACH)

                                         CLASSMATE’S POST

Curriculum Alignment is the process where educators from across all levels make sure the stay within all the guidelines according to the rules, also the educational initiative is to address the ever changing needs of the students.

Curriculum Audit to assess ways of learning in a collaborative way, the big procedure that makes a school and a school system to show how the amount of work being done is all a part of the rules (guidelines).

Curriculum Mapping is where educators who are able to examine and break down the inconsistencies between the planned, advertised curriculum and curriculum and give out a clear understanding to classroom.

Curriculum Alignment, Curriculum Mapping and Curriculum Audit they are all lean towards analytical tools that are used for providing data and structure to educators whose all have the common goal of providing what is in the best interest of teaching the students. In most systems the Curriculums are mandated by the state or school district and the teachers are to implement the one that have been selected.

Work-Life Balance for Modern Parents

Based on your weekly readings from the course and any other credible sources that you find, answer the following questions:

1) Are modern parents doing a good job of raising their children?

This is a much trickier question that it seems at first glance. In order to respond, you need to ask yourself two crucial questions. First, what does it mean to be a “modern” parent – what are the challenges that modern parents face that make parenting especially hard in the 21st century? Second, you need to define what “good parenting” is. What is the metric we use to define success as parents?

The responses to this question are likely to be quite diverse, but that’s okay. An excellent response will address the two crucial questions, which lead to an answer that incorporates at least 3 of the weekly learning resources (include citations and references). In addition, find and incorporate at least one credible news article or journal article that supports your response. This article should be no more than 2 years old.

2) Refer back to the Week 1 discussion where you identified 2 or 3 questions about parenting that you wanted to have answered. Copy your questions into this discussion. Were your questions answered in this course? If yes, how? If not, how would you go about finding the answers to your questions?

Discussion Question Responses

Discussion Question #1

Describe the cultural diversity, level of technology, and communication channels at your current (or previous) organization or organizational unit (team). You may also consider within the context of an organization with which you are familiar.

As a retired Army veteran, I had the opportunity to work in a large cultural diverse organization. Since the United States Army was very well diverse, this created an opportunity for different backgrounds to learn to work together as a team to define our country. Soldiers were introduced to cultural diversity during basic training. At this time soldiers are taught by their Drill Sergeants to motivate each other and bond based on different training tactics no matter what the race, creed or origin may be. The level of technology used was well updated with the use of modern day equipment that enhanced our ability to conduct daily missions and administrative duties. Communication was the utmost importance due to the level of security and classified information that was distributed throughout our organization.

Reflect on some of the past change initiatives. Based on the information you have accumulated in this course thus far and your understanding of the change process, assess and discuss to what extent these factors might have played in the level of success of change initiatives at your organization (or in your team). You may also consider within the context of an organization with which you are familiar.

Based on my knowledge obtained throughout this course, the change initiatives in my past military organizations were conducted by Senior military leadership and higher. There weren’t any opportunities for Soldiers to provide any feedback on any missions. Basically, everyone had to adapt and overcome any changes implemented. Being flexible was a daily trend. However, the change initiatives that we experienced, built a stronger bond between team members that resulted in many successful outcomes

If more than one factor had an influence, identify the one that you believe had the greatest impact. Explain.

The one factor I believe that had the greatest impact within my past organizations was communication. Communication flow is the key to any successful change initiative. Communication among leaders and employees will create a smooth transition for the organization. The consensus is that leadership communication is vital to organizations (Mayfield et. al, 2016).

Discussion Question #2

In my current unit, there is so much diversity that range from different age groups, ethnicity and education level.  Due to the different age groups, there are communication issues where some employees do not clearly.  There are times were my supervisor will give instructions to complete a task one way but she will get upset when the task is completed due to her poor communication skills. She will give instructions to do one thing but will expect different results.  If she would take her time and thoroughly get an understanding of the task to complete it timely.  Also, my supervisor is not a people person so she will tend to not engage with employees and may avoid them due to her not wanting to address conflict.  If she would try to engage more with employees then some of the communication issues would decrease and a more productive workplace would be developed.  According to Frendika et al 2018 there was a signification increase in cultural competency and work productivity improved.

So far, the communication issues are addressed through emails and additional questions are being asked to gain clarity. More team building activities were incorporated so my unit can work together on a different level to gain group cohesion and strengthen communication within the unit which is very important to build a good rapport within the unit.

When working in a group of employees that vary in age, ethnicity and educational level there must be a change in mindset to not limit employees due to diversity.  For instance, there were more investigations assigned to younger employees than tenured employees.  The tenured employees have more experience in investigations and can offer mentoring to younger employees to assure they know how to conduct investigations timely.

In RCCL each employee uses a laptop, cell phone and mobile printer to complete work. Sometimes employees can experience computer issues due to connectivity issues and software used to complete investigation. The main issue occurs due to the laptop and cell phone being force to use software that are not typically used with the device.  Last year the writer had computer issues that cause my laptop to shut off randomly and had to complete all electronic forms at an office location.

Additional changes that occurred to RCCL when it was under DFPS and went to HHSC where budget restraints were enforced such as using rental cars more, no raises and stricter policies because HHSC does not understand what RCCL program is.  The budget restraints caused employees to have less funds through travel but cost more out of the pocket for employees to pay for gas for a rental car.  By getting a rental car for travel it can cause an employee to back track by having to locate a rental car facility nearby when some can be a far distance from the employee’s home.  No raises were given for the past two year and caused employees to quit.  Additional policies were created to restrict activities such as not having team building activities which affect the moral of the workplace.

Read/review the following resources for this activity:

  • Textbook: Review chapter(s) applicable to your presentation
  • Lesson
  • Headset microphone (If your computer does not already have a built-in microphone, then you can find this item under the Additional Items section in the bookstore).
  • Link (website): Narrated PowerPoint Tutorial (Make sure to review this tutorial before you begin recording.)
  • Minimum of 4 scholarly sources (from Weeks 5 & 6)

E-Book: McLean Scott, (2018). Exploring Interpersonal Communication (2nd ed.) Boston, MA: Flatworld

Instructions
The following are the best practices for creating your speech presentation: (Write the speech to add notes)

  • Title Slide: Include the title, audience (who you prepared the presentation for school or institution), the presenter who prepared and narrated, and the date.
  • Attention-Getter: Give the audience a reason to pay attention. Make them want to listen to your speech.
  • Thesis: Clearly state the purpose of your presentation
    • (On this slide, establish the tone of the presentation and include any questions you think your audience might have about your topic – questions you will answer during your presentation).

  • Body of the Presentation (multiple slides): Include the information you found during your research and organize it in a visually pleasing manner.
    • Use some type of division like levels of headers or titles.
    • Use words and phrases to clarify key points.
    • Provide researched evidence for each point.
    • Cite your evidence, quotes, and statistics within your presentation using
    • in-text citations ( ) on the slides as well as full reference citations on the
    • last slide.
    • Include images to add visual appeal to the slides.

  • Summary and Conclusion: Summarizing is similar to paraphrasing but presents the gist of the material in fewer words than the original. An effective summary identifies the main ideas and major support points from the body of your outline or presentation. Minor details are left out. Summarize the benefits of the ideas and how they affect the thesis statement of the outline and main objective of the presentation. End with a final strong statement regarding the intent of the presentation.

  • References: Use the APA citation format. The illustrations should be included with your resources. APA tutorials are available in the Chamberlain University library. Keep in mind the following:
    • At least 4 authoritative, outside scholarly sources are required from Week 6 outline. (Anonymous authors or web pages are not acceptable.)
    • Appropriate citations within the presentation are required on the last slide. Just copy and paste this from the last page of your outline – the References page. References should be in APA format.
    • Each resource should be entirely double spaced.
    • All entries must use hanging indents – the first line is flush left, and all the rest are indented.

Additional Hints

  • Use a minimum of 5 visual aids to further clarify and support the written part of your presentation. You could use example graphs, diagrams, photographs, flowcharts, maps, drawings, pictograms, tables, and Gantt charts. If a slide appears boring, then strongly consider adding a visual. It is the blend of text and images that make the slides engaging for the audience.
  • Animation and video clips should not be used for this speech. YouTube is not allowed.
  • Do not type out text onto the slide and then read it during your presentation. Remember, you are the teacher, so teach, don’t read!
  • Click on the following link to view a presentation of sample slides. Click on the arrows to scroll through the slide show (See attached below)

Presentation Requirements (APA format)

Leadership Case Study

The Big Five Personality Test

How true is each of the following characteristics in describing me?

Interpretation:

Scale O: Openness to Experience [high score of 34](curious versus consistent). People with high scores are described as adventurous, daring, imaginative, and variety loving.

Scale C: Conscientiousness  [high score of 34] (organized versus careless). People with high scores are described as well organized, scrupulous, responsible, and reliable.

Scale E: Extroversion   [second highest score of 33](social versus reserved). People with high scores are described as outgoing, sociable, friendly, and people oriented.

Scale A: Agreeableness   [third highest score of 32](compassionate versus contentious). People with high scores are described as good-natured, considerate, cooperative, and kind.

Scale N: Neuroticism  [lowest score of 22](nervous versus calm). People with high scores are described as anxious, emotional, temperamental, and highly strung.

Case Study:

Your CEO is looking for someone to head up the Potato-Smashing department. This person must be highly critical, and a bit pessimistic. They also need to be dutiful and willing to follow instructions at all cost. High attention to detail, and more focus on the tasks of potato smashing than the people doing the smashing! Potato smashing is a big deal. In the city of Spud, mashed potatoes make up 45% of the GDP; and Potatoes ‘R’ Us is a monopoly. The CEO needs to see your Big Five Personality scores, and a brief explanation as to why you are, or are not a good fit.

Based on your Big Five Personality scores, and what you know from the readings, would you make a good fit for the new Manager of Potato Smashing role?

Be sure to do the following:

  1. Report how you scored for each scale. (Listed above)
  2. Explain how you would interpret each score.
  3. Provide an overall conclusion of why you are or are not a good fit for the case study.

GUIDELINES

  • Length: 1.5-2 pages (not including title page or references page)
  • 1-inch margins
  • Double spaced
  • 12-point Times New Roman font
  • Title page
  • References page (minimum of 1 scholarly source in addition to your textbook… Manning. (2021). ISE EBOOK ONLINE ACCESS FOR THE ART OF LEADERSHIP (Sixth ed.). New York, NY: MCGRAW-HILL US HIGHER ED.)

Internal Report

Complete an analysis of the key internal factors that have implications for successful implementation of your General Dynamics strategy and goals/objectives. Submit your work in your assignment folder in the form of a 2,000-word double-spaced APA-formatted paper. The title page, reference list, and any appendices are not included in this suggested word count. You do not need to include an abstract.

Your paper should address these topics:

  1. Given the company’s Vision, Mission and Objectives (VMO), identify the company’s core competencies and assess which ones are rare, costly, or not easily imitated. Discuss how they are related to and critical to the VMO execution.
  2. Present a summary of your organization’s strengths and weaknesses. Submit the SWOT format in Table form and add in some narrative to discuss the strengths and weaknesses in more detail. Explain in your discussion (not in the table) why you selected them and how they relate to the VMO and organization strategy. (Note: You will have an opportunity to complete a full SWOT analysis, including threats and opportunities, as part of your week 6 paper.)
  3. Apply the Resource-Based View (RBV) to help you identify both the tangible and intangible assets your organization may be able to use to accomplish its intended strategies. You can list them in a table form and then follow with a discussion of the assets, why you selected them and how they relate to the VMO and strategy.
  4. Consider and discuss the things that may make your organization’s resources and capabilities difficult for others to imitate. Use Value Chain Analysis to help you deepen your understanding of the relative value of the resources and capabilities you have identified. Seek objective and independently verifiable evidence of potential rarity of the resources and capabilities.IMPORTANT: Do not just use someone else’s SWOT or other analysis. We want you to think for yourself. Critically analyze your firm and write about your original conclusions. Imagine you have been asked by the organization’s CEO or top leader to offer an assessment of the organization and how well it is positioned (or not) to deliver on the VMO and strategy. This is a critical element, stand back and offer thoughtful criticism and recommendations.
Add in a strong conclusion that ensures the reader leaves your paper with a clear recap of your key points.
