Professional Written Communications Due 05.21.2021

Primary Response: Within the Discussion Board area, write 200–250 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas.

For this Discussion Board, please complete the following:

A main benefit of using research in your writing is to strengthen your argument. When you are trying to persuade your reader, especially about a topic on which you are not an expert, including research can add weight to your argument and help to convince them that you have “done your homework” and know what you are talking about.

In your post, discuss a time when you made an argument and research helped or would have helped you to convince your audience of your point. Your example could relate to a personal or professional setting.

  • What type of research did you include (or would you include)?
  • Did the source for your information help to convince the other person?

Tips for Completing Your Post

Consider in-person situations where you have made an argument and referenced some piece of research, something you looked up, or something that you already knew. Perhaps you were making a point to a friend or family member and stated an interesting fact to make your point, or perhaps you were making a post on social media and referenced a statistic that you looked up. If you cannot think of a situation where you used research, try to think of one where you might need to use research to make your point.

Need an example?

Here’s an example of what your primary post should look like:

When I was expecting my daughter, who is now 11 years old, I had to make a decision about what doctor to see and what hospital I would go to when it was time for her to be born. We had recently moved to a new city, so I didn’t know any of the hospitals or doctors, and recommendations from friends weren’t helpful. I ended up doing a lot of research online about birth options, and that led me to a clinical study in a journal of medicine that concluded planned home births may be statistically safer than hospital births for uncomplicated deliveries, which I had always had. The more research I did, the more I realized that this was the best choice for my baby, my family, and me. The problem was I had to convince my family, including my husband, who was very against home births at that time. It was important to me that we be on the same page with such an important decision. I was able to show him the research I had found, which was from a reputable medical journal and based on a large clinical study with over 2000 participants, and that convinced him to at least be open to the idea. We did more research together, interviewed several nurse midwives, and ultimately decided to plan for a home birth. Our healthy daughter arrived safely – at home – shortly after her due date.

Book: The making of a manager by julie zhou

+I also attached the powerpoint for 4 theory in the book+

As a manager, you often need to analyze the ideas of others as well as effectively convey your own thoughts and insights.  Managers also need to stay current with management approaches and literature.  This “book club” assignment provides you the opportunity to expand your management horizon and sharpen your critical thinking and communication skills.  As the capstone assignment for our semester, this is also your opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of, and ability to apply, many of the key concepts we’ve addressed this semester.

During Module 4, you’ll be asked to share with members of your reading group in the Module 4 discussion the key insights you gained from this book, your overall comments about the book, questions you might have, etc.   Those discussions are designed to help expand your understanding, share ideas, and learn from your classmates.  You will also need to incorporate what you learned from those discussions into your written Module 4 assignment.

Carefully proofread your Module 4 written assignment (formatted as a Word document) prior to submitting it on Canvas.  While writing styles vary, most students will need 2500-3500 words (typically 4-5 single-spaced typewritten pages) to fully address all the required aspects with the expected level of depth required for this assignment. Your grade on this assignment will be determined by the content, organization, originality, and clarity of your writing.  Note: this  capstone assignment has a different format than your prior assignments.

To help clarify expectations of what I’ll be looking for in your Module 4 assignment I strongly encourage you to refer to the grading guidelines listed below and this grading sheet  downloadthat I’ll use.   If you have questions, let me know.

Your Module 4 ” book club” written assignment will be graded according to the following guidelines:

Proper use of titles and section headings (worth 5 points)

An opening executive summary paragraph that highlights the main points of your overall analysis (worth 10 points).   Note:  this executive summary should not “preview” what you will be covering in your paper, but instead, concisely state the key points of your analysis (and then the rest of your paper will provide more expanded discussion of each of those key points).  See the example below for additional guidance on how to write an effective executive summary.

Brief discussion of the author’s purpose and intended audience for the book (what is the overarching message the author wants to convey to the reader, and who does the author hope reads and gains value from the book?)   (worth 5 points)

Analysis of how the book relates to the field of management and how well the author’s main arguments fit 4 of the specific theories and/or management concepts discussed in your textbook. (worth 40 points)  This is a very important part of your analysis, as it will demonstrate to me your understanding of, and ability to apply, the theories and concepts we’ve covered this month. You will likely identify lots more than specific 4 connections while you are reading your book…but for purposes of this assignment, choose 4 and provide  in-depth, well supported analysis of those aspects…don’t just offer a cursory overview of 10 connections without any real substance or depth

Discussion of your personal reaction to the book, how your reactions and insights were similar to (or different from) your classmates, and what you learned from discussing the book with your classmates (worth 15 points)

Discussion of the connections you see between the author’s main ideas and what you learned from each of the managers you interviewed for the Module 3 assignment (worth 15 points)

Concluding paragraph that offers closure to the reader and re-affirms the key ideas of your overall analysis  (worth 5 points)

Overall quality/clarity of writing that reflects careful proofreading and minimal (if any) errors in spelling, grammar, and sentence structure  (worth 5 points)

Tips for Writing an Effective Executive Summary:  In the U.S. business community, readers of reports, memos, etc. expect to be able to quickly identify the writer’s key points.  So an executive summary is a critical part of any business writing, and may be structured differently from the writing style you’re most accustomed to using.  This executive summary (which should be the first paragraph of your paper) should clearly and concisely highlight all the key arguments of your paper, so that if a person only read this paragraph, he/she would understand all your key points.   Do not make this a “preview paragraph” — that is, do not write it like this: “first I will tell you about the author’s main ideas, then I’ll tell you about how some of those ideas connect to the theories in the textbook, then I’ll finish by telling you what I thought about the book and what I learned from discussing the book with my classmates”.   In the world of business, we are impatient readers who don’t want suspense…so that ‘preview’ approach offers no real value to the business reader.  Instead, structure your opening paragraph to offer real value to the reader and convey your own ‘voice’, providing something like: “Initially I dreaded having to read The First Time Manager as I expected it to be a dull book, with little practical value.  Instead, the author’s key arguments were interesting, practical, and helped me better understand the theories and concepts in the textbook.  By offering real life examples of active listening, situational leadership theory, and much more, the authors of First Time Manager confirmed the challenge of trying to effectively motivate and lead others.  Discussing the book with my classmates also helped highlight the need for a manager to be self-aware and open to continuous improvement.  My initial dread of reading the book has turned into motivation for putting into practice the advice provided by the authors.  I also have a new-found appreciation for the challenges managers face, and a desire to strengthen my own managerial capabilities.”   That type of opening paragraph provides a brief summary of your main insights and hopefully entices the reader to want to read more about each of those key insights.   While this opening summary paragraph should be the first part of your finished paper, you’ll find it much easier if you actually write this summary AFTER you’ve written the rest of the paper.

The financial aspect of the change project will have little to no impact on the finances of stakeholders and the healthcare organization. With the availability of internet service, many older adults have phones with internet access. With this internet, health-related applications can be downloaded on the phones, and reminders can be set up on these phone apps that will remind the patient to take their medications. Another financial aspect of the change project will focus on the Healthcare organization; this may cost the organization some financial implications as the organization develops and sends out short messaging services (SMS) to patients to remind them about taking their prescribed medications.

Quality aspects promote health education on setting reminders for medications to improve medication adherence and prevent the exacerbation of chronic illnesses commonly seen among older patients. Improving quality encompasses quality of nursing care and quality of patient life. Quality improvements involve a continuous process of collecting and analyzing data to improve nursing care delivery (Risch, n.d).

The clinical aspect is assessing the patients’ reasons for medication nonadherence and monitoring patients’ medication intake. The steps of evidence-based practice involve multiple processes; this requires nurses to have sufficient time to identify clinical problems that evidence-based practice can be implemented. Also, nurses need to research relevant literature, perform a necessary appraisal of the retrieved information, frame and utilize an intervention and evaluate the efficacy of the applied intervention (Majid, Foo, & Mokhtar, 2011).

Delivering high-quality patient care involves the implementation of evidence-based practice (EBP). (Kueny, et al., 2015). When speaking with my preceptor, we discussed the financial, quality, and clinical aspects of developing the change proposal. When implementing my project, one important financial aspect is budgeting for more staff and interventions to help support nurses. One of the biggest causes of nurses’ mental health issues is burnout caused by inadequate staffing ratios. To show the value of the importance of providing appropriate interventions to aid nurses is to show the savings the facility will generate, having decreased staff turnover and increased patient and staff satisfaction and safety.

One quality aspect is to provide interventions that promote a healthier work environment. These interventions need to show nurses they are supported by the facility and to improve their mental health. Improving nurses’ mental health should increase staff morale, retention, give them the tools to improve their mental health, and decrease the long-term effects of depression, anxiety, and insomnia on nurses.

The clinical aspect is the time and resources available to help support the EBP project. Gaining managerial support to implement the project is extremely important in its success. Nurse burnout can lead to poor mental health amongst nurses causing emotional exhaustion and apathy, which can cause long-term effects. Amongst the nursing shortage, facilities need to work on supporting and retaining nurses. According to the AACN, nurses who left the profession were 40,000 in 2010 to nearly 80,000 by 2020, and most nurses have left due to inadequate staffing and a stressful work environment. Two states that have shown the lowest nurse burnout rates were California and Massachusetts, which have legislation regulating nurse staffing ratios. So facilities need to work on preventing burnout and using resources within their health care systems to help their patients and nurses, i.e., mental health counselors, spiritual health, etc.

Name Lengths

Introduction

Do people with long last names also tend to have long first names? In this assignment, you will analyze data to investigate this question, construct and analyze a linear regression model based on the relationship between the length of the first and last names in the dataset that you collected, and draw insights into the phenomenon within the limitations of the model. You will count the alphabet letters used to write the name of 100 individuals from this dataset   arabic_first_last_name _1_.csv

e  .

Part I: Exploratory Analysis

a) Download the arabic_first_last_name.csv file which contains Arabic first and last name columns.

b) Construct a dot plot of the last name lengths and comment on any interesting features of this plot.

c) Construct a dot plot of the first name lengths and comment on any interesting features. Describe how the distribution of first name lengths compares to that of last name lengths.

Part II: Regression Model

a) Construct a scatterplot of x and y.

b) Explain if this is the plot consistent with the theory that people with long last names tend to also have long first names?

c) What is the value of the correlation coefficient for this data set?

Part III: Reporting

a) Discuss if your first and last name are included in the context of the model.

b) Discuss the limitations of the data, the model, and the analysis.

c) Write a 100-200 words meaningful paragraph summarizing the findings from the analysis.

Once you have developed responses to the task prompts, you will organize them in a professional 3-5-page report, not including the title and reference pages, that summarizes your actions, calculations, and findings. You will upload a zipped file that includes your response and all supporting files.

Use Saudi Electronic University academic writing standards and APA style guidelines, citing at least two references in support of your work, in addition to your text and assigned readings.

You are strongly encouraged to submit all assignments to the Turnitin Originality Check prior to submitting them to your instructor for grading. If you are unsure how to submit an assignment to the Originality Check tool, review the Turnitin Originality Check Student Guide.

Training Needs Assessment,

Select or create an organization for the authentic assessment. In this first assignment, you will begin to develop a training needs analysis (TNA) for your chosen organization . I chose PROSEGUR. Note: It is recommended that you choose your own organization (where you are currently employed). If you are not employed, reach out to the professor to help with selection of an organization. DO NOT use Walmart, Target, or Starbucks as your organization.

For this assignment #1, you will work on the Training Needs Assessment items 1-5 only.

  1. Provide information about the organization and its needs regarding the training issue:
    1. This should include general, high level information about the company in terms of product/services, size, geography, workforce attributes, etc.  The training issue is the problem or challenge (could be deficiency OR need based on a predicted change in the operation, workforce, etc.).  Here this should be “high level”, focused on the organization (not specifically the individual workers yet).
  2. Determine the group or individuals who will receive the training:
    1. This should include information about the target audience as it will impact the training developed – including demographic information, type of work, location of work, etc.
  3. Identify the training issue:
    1. This is a continuation from item 1.  Here you will focus more on the individual workers and/or teams.
    2. NOTE: the training issue should NOT be that they lack training.  It should be tied to a performance deficiency or need.
  4. Provide a training needs assessment questionnaire:
    1. The questionnaire should provide insight into the training need/gap; therefore it should focus on the training issue itself – choose questions that provide insight to the issue.  In a sense, the questionnaire helps you identify and analyze the “why” (e.g., if you are addressing a performance issue, the questionnaire would help you hone in on the real issue).
    2. SUGGESTION: consider what kinds of questions of the audience are most relevant as you will want to obtain the most tangible and useful information.
    3. NOTE: you do NOT have to administer the questionnaire due to time considerations, however, you must develop the questions to be asked of your audience!
    4. Your questionnaire should be included as an appendix to your paper – inserting questions within the narrative of your paper does not suffice.
  5. Explain how the questionnaire will be utilized and will lead to the development of training outcomes/learning objectives within your written report:
    1. Here you will essentially validate the questions posed in your questionnaire – if you can’t do that, you should probably revisit your questions.
      1. You will probably not have the time or resources to implement the questionnaire or compile all the organizational and training-specific information necessary to complete the TNA. (Note: If you were able to get real data and results from your questionnaire, great! Otherwise, be creative and fabricate results.) The goal is to understand how a TNA is done effectively and to practice completing one

Assemble Reflective Journal

Instructions

Add a culminating entry in your journal.  This final entry should reflect your thoughts about differentiated instruction for diverse learners, especially in your specific, local context regarding tolerance versus affirmation. Be sure to write about the past, present, and future. Also, discuss how you might encourage others to reflect in a similar way to what you have done in this course so that they can explore diversity and cultural competence and sensitivity.

After you have composed this final journal entry, combine all of your journal entries from Weeks 1, 4, 6, and 7 into a single document (if written). If you have chosen to create videos for any of your journals note within that document which weeks were video entries instead of written entries. If you composed all journal entries as videos, you will submit a Word document reminding your instructor that all four journals were submitted as videos.

Be sure to consider your instructor’s comments on your previous journal entries and integrate that feedback as appropriate.

Length: an additional 1 to 3-minute video or 1-2 pages in the journal you have built. The compilation of your journals should include a title page (if written) with a cumulative minimum length of four pages, excluding the title page.

References: References are not required for the journal.  While no references are required, any sources used should be cited and referenced in APA style. Reference pages do not count in minimum page requirements.

Unit 3 Assignment

Assignment 2: Crisis Case Handling

Review the following scenarios and then address each of them:

Case 1

You have been called out to a scene in which a 35-year-old woman is experiencing a crisis. Her husband just committed suicide and she is distraught about her circumstances. What information would you want to know before intervening? After finding out the necessary information, how would you handle this case?

Case 2

You have been called to a scene where a person is running around in the street without any clothes on, looking unkempt, and ranting about how the UFOs are coming down to get him. How would you assess the mental state of this individual? How would you begin to interact with him? How would you secure his safety?

Your paper should be 5 to 6 pages in length, and address each of the questions asked. For each scenario, you should also state how you would apply and address each step of the Six-Step Model of Crisis Intervention and provide examples.

Directions

In addition to fulfilling the specifics of the Assignment, a successful paper must also meet the following criteria:

  • Include a cover page and references page in 10–12 point font (Arial, Courier, and Times New Roman are acceptable)
  • Viewpoint and purpose should be clearly established and sustained
  • Assignment should follow the conventions of Standard American English (correct grammar, punctuation, etc.)
  • Writing should be well ordered, logical, and unified, as well as original and insightful
  • Your work should display superior content, organization, style, and mechanics
  • Appropriate citation style should be followed

You should also make sure to:

  • Include a title page with full name, class name, section number, and date
  • Include an introductory and concluding paragraph and demonstrate college-level communication through the composition of original materials in Standard American English
  • Use examples to support your discussion
  • Cite all sources on a separate reference page at the end of your paper and cited within the body of your paper using APA format

Developing research questions

Developing Research Questions Instructions

This paper requires you to create
research questions based upon the literature review and annotated bibliography
research.

1.      Think about your current
understanding (working theory) of a research issue of interest to you in the
criminal justice field (here again is where the previous Literature Review and
Annotated Bibliography assignments will help you). What important concepts are
part of this research interest and how do they relate? Begin a search of the
relevant literature.

2.      Develop
three to five research questions that help to focus your topic. List possible
aspects of the conceptual context that would guide a literature review if you
were to do one.

3.      Create
a research statement (if you have not done so already) and create five to ten
open-ended interview questions for your own research project. Pilot the
questions with a classmate, asking her or him to pretend that she or he is one
of your participants. Work together to reshape the questions. Then pilot the
questions with someone who has had experiences similar to your research
population or ask the questions of a research participant who is willing to
collaborate with you on developing your questions. Reshape the questions again
after reflecting upon what worked, what did not, and what new questions arose.

4.      Be
sure to write down the answers to those questions (you will need them for
another upcoming assignment).

Assignment Specifics:

1.
Write an introduction about the assignment

2.
Write at least two paragraphs with their
research statement embedded. These paragraphs should also be supported with
credible academic sources

3.
Write at least one supportive paragraph before
listing the research questions

4.
Write at least one supportive paragraph before listing
the interviewing questions

5.
Write at least a one paragraph conclusion

A Purpose and Values Statement for Mines R Us

 – Explain what impact this purpose is to have in transforming the organisation’s impact  in the world beyond profit – discuss at the societal, organisational, and individual  level. – Using Schwartz Value Theory, identify three (3) core values and their assumptions.  Explain how these values can be enacted by the board to shape an organisational  culture that extends beyond the shareholder primacy and towards restoring  stakeholder trust .

For the task, imagine that the members of your group have recently been appointed as the board of directors  of the case company (“Mines R Us”) that is seeking to re-position and re-brand itself as a Responsible Business (i.e., A Responsible Business Mindset) after being held responsible for two major incidents. Firstly, the collapse of  a mine tailings dam that devastated the local community and environment in a mining town in Peru, and secondly, the destruction of 36,000 year old sacred indigenous caves in a Canadian heritage site. These incidents have left the Mines R Us’s reputation in tatters and had a significant negative impact on the company’s share price. In  the past the case company has embarked on a traditional business strategy focused solely on the pursuit of  shareholder profit (i.e., A Shareholder Primacy Mindset). Mines R Us is a large multinational company and was  considered a leader in the sector until these devastating incidents occurred that took several lives and destroyed  significant communities and natural environments. The important company details are as follows

Case Company Name :Mines R Us

 Industry/Sector: Mining and metals

Head Office Location: London

Operational Sites: 43 countries around the world including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile,  Iceland, Peru, South Africa
