For this assignment, you will write an annotated bibliography on three sources. For detailed information on how to create your Annotated Bibliography, see the Sample Annotated Bibliography and the Annotated Bibliography Template (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..

For the Annotated Bibliography, you will write annotations for three sources. One source should be a primary source. Though a primary source can be different things depending on the research project, for your Literary Analysis Final Paper in Week 5, the primary source is the literary work you selected for your Week 1 Proposal for Final Paper assignment.

Next, choose two secondary sources that are additional to the course textbook. Secondary sources are publications like textbooks, magazine articles, histories, criticisms, commentaries, encyclopedias, and so forth. An appropriate secondary source to use for your literary analysis is a scholarly source that interprets and offers analysis of a literary work.

The sources you locate must be academic sources and come from peer-reviewed journals or other scholarly publications. Your two secondary sources could come from the sources located in this week’s Performing Literary Research discussion.

Copy and paste the writing prompt you chose to explore in the Week 1 Proposal for Final Paper into a blank Word document.

In your Annotated Bibliography,

  • Revise the working thesis you created in the Week 1 Proposal for Final Paper assignment (include it below your writing prompt).
  • Identify your primary source (your selected literary work) and two secondary, academic sources in this same document.
  • Summarize each source. (Each summary should be 100 to 150 words.)
  • Explain how each source supports your working thesis.

The Annotated Bibliography

  • Must be 100 to 150 words in length (not including title and references pages and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center’s APA Style (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.
  • Must include a separate title page with the following:
    • Title of paper
    • Student’s name
    • Course name and number
    • Instructor’s name
    • Date submitted

For further assistance with the formatting and the title page, refer to APA Formatting for Word 2013 (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..

Chapter 2

Chapter 2: Discussion

Please read the section “Crime Data from Law Enforcement Agencies,” especially the following sections: Uniform Crime Reports (UCR), National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), and Crime Data from Victims of Crime: The National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS). Please answer the questions below:

  1. Define the terms UCR, NIBRS, and NCVS. What is the purpose of each?
  2. If you could pick only one measure of crime, which one would you choose? Defend your answer?

Make sure to:

  • Write a short essay or paragraph of at least 300 words.
  • Use concrete examples/details and avoid generalities.
  • Address all questions.
  • Use proper grammar and punctuation.
  • If you researched your topic and are using information from what you learned, remember to cite your sources.
  • Do not plagiarize.
  • You will not be able to edit your assignment once you post, so please proofread and spell check before hitting post!
  • As part of the assignment, you must also reply to ONE of your classmates with at least 150 words. You will have to POST FIRST to see your classmates’ postings. Make sure your replies are a thoughtful and relevant to what your classmate has posted. Try to build the discussion and keep it going.
  • YOU must post your word count at the end of your discussion and the word count at the end of your reply.  Your references cannot be included in your word count.

respond to this:

In the US, law enforcement agencies gather information and statistics on crime through various forms of reporting. A few examples would be the use of the UCR, NIBRS, and the NCVS. The UCR stands for Uniformed Crime Reports, which its goal is to gather consistent set of crime statistics that can be used in the everyday environment of law enforcement. The UCR is a summary-based system which collects a total count of crime at a city/ county level. The information brought out by the UCR use typically used as an indicator to lawmakers, criminologist, and the media of the type and levels of crime that are current for present time. Often the information gathered from the UCR is used for research and future planning for the community. The NIBRS is the National Incident-Based Reporting System. This type of reporting enhances the work provided by the UCR by providing quantity, quality, and timeliness of crime statistics. Simultaneously it improves the method used to gather, analyze, and review, and publish crime.  The NIBRS does a better job at including important details in reporting this is because it uses an incident-based reporting system instead. Both the UCR and NIBRS include information only on crimes that have been reported to law enforcement. The NCVS is the National Crime Victimization Survey which provided additional insight into dark figure of crime. Law enforcement agencies use this type of reporting to enhance citizen cooperation with officials. If I could pick only one measure of crime it would be the National Incident Based Reporting System. This is because with the NIBRS of the level of work provided with the NIBRS. Since it takes its time to provide more detailed statistics by default the quantity and quality are 100% better. With this kind of information law enforcement agencies can make better and smarter decisions within the community.

Final Problem-Solving Paper

This final paper asks you to apply at least ONE topic from the course to attempt to solve a specific problem that exists in an organization with which you are familiar. That problem should center on either a job performance issue or an organizational commitment issue. The final paper should be 1000 words in length (all inclusive).

Your paper can focus on either a current or past employer of yours, or some other company with which you have significant familiarity. What’s needed is some knowledge of the inner workings of the company–its struggles, its strengths, its climate, and so forth. The paper should include the following four sections:

1. Organization – Provide just enough details on the company for me to be able to understand the problem that will be described. Resist the urge to provide irrelevant details and feel free to omit or disguise any details that might be sensitive in nature.

2. Problem – Describe, specifically, one problem that the company is struggling with that will serve as the focus of the paper. Resist the urge to discuss multiple problems–focus on one specific issue with which the organization is struggling. Be sure to focus on a problem that can be impacted by the relevant topics.

3. Topic – Choose at least ONE topics from the list below and apply those topics to the problem. Describe very specifically how the concepts, principles, and findings represented in the topic matter to the problem, and how they can be leveraged to articulate a solution.

  • Value-precept theory
  • Job characteristics theory
  • Challenge-hindrance stressors
  • Expectancy theory
  • Goal setting theory
  • Equity theory
  • Psychological empowerment
  • Cognition-based trust
  • Justice
  • Ethical decision making
  • Cognitive ability
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Team processes
  • Types of power
  • Transformational leadership

4.  Recommendations – Provide a list of very specific recommendations/action steps that flow out of the discussion of the topics and that can help solve the problem. In thinking about how to craft the topics into those recommendations, strike a balance between being practical and being bold. Every organization has key constraints that need to be taken into account when designing interventions.  Although those should be considered, resist the urge to “play it safe”, as that tendency often leads to modest interventions that are ultimately ineffective.

Beyond the parameters above, please bring your own self-expression, initiative, and creativity to the content and style of the paper. 80% of the paper grade will revolve around content issues, with 20% revolving around writing style issues–please see rubric for additional details.

Please review the grading rubric below before submitting your assignment.

Comment 1

Science and religion is ongoing controversy that will remain in society as people’s beliefs are tested and trialed.  Science is a belief that if it cannot be proven, then it does not exist, and that all other beliefs that cannot be proven are merely false (Clark, 2015).  This can create many tense moments when someone’s loved one is in a hospital and maybe the end of life for them.  Their faith is tested and many turn away from God and ask, “Why are doing this to me, what did I do to deserve this?”  As stated, doctors are not saviors and they cannot heal all people, therefore to accept and understand the process may bring religion closer to the individuals (Meliaender, 2013).  Medicine has been more scientific than it has been religious in modern day, but more like older days, medicine has made a come around to become a more holistic approach to caring for individuals, which also includes religion in the practice.  I believe that there is a balance between science and religion when caring for patients.  If a patient or family member wishes to have a sentimental item or belief within a picture, rosary, or specific items, then the medical staff should honor those wishes as it will create a calming effect over the family to allow the medical professionals to care for the patient.

Comment 2

The perceived tension between science and religion stems from William Passavant’s description of the differences between the roles of deaconesses and nurses in 1899. Passavant defined the care provided by a deaconess as eternal service, providing care through love, and caring for the body to reach the soul (Shelly & Miller, 2009, p. 21). He defined the care provided by a nurse as service for financial compensation, with a motive based on a system rather than love, and a concern for the present welfare of a patient instead of their eternal future (Shelly & Miller, 2009, p. 21). The tension between these two concepts with regards to nursing care is ironic because regardless of the foundational discipline under which a provider has earned or accepted the responsibility to care for the ill or injured, the primary goal is the same; return the patient to the best state of well-being as physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually possible. Although the primary goal is the same, the philosophical and cultural differences between science and religion have the capability of pushing each discipline further from the other. With a scientific approach lacking a spiritual focus and a religious approach lacking a pathophysiologic focus, it is evident that a combination of the two is necessary to achieve the best possible outcome for our patients.

Apple Vs Android

The two companies I choose where Apple vs. Android. The guide lines for the paper is posted below.

The end-term-paper should be no more than three pages single spaced (Time New Roman 12 point) using APA writing style. Your reference page is separate from the body of the paper. Always have someone else proof read to avoid problems associated with flow, grammar and organization. Be sure to cite all sources. Your paper will be scanned by turnitin.com services, which is supported by the college.

Your task is to choose two companies competing in the same market (ie. Retailers- Walmart vs. Target) and contrast aspects of their SCM strategies. Who is winning and who is losing market-share? What do you expect to see in 5-years from either company given market trends etc…Walmart has already begun closing many doors of some of its low producing super centers across the country.

According to the review I provided, “The basic components of SCM are strategy, procurement, supply management, demand management, and logistics. The goal of supply chain management is to match supply to demand as effectively and efficiently as possible.” When thinking about content within your paper, you can relate key aspects to:

1.    Determining the appropriate level of outsourcing.

2.    Managing procurement.

3.    Managing suppliers.

4.    Managing customer relationships.

5.    Being able to quickly identify problems and respond to them.

Some SCM trends include but notwithstanding”

•   Measuring supply chain ROI.
•   “Greening” the supply chain.
•   Reevaluating outsourcing.
•   Integrating IT- ERP.
•   Adopting lean principles.
•   Managing risks.

Executive Skills Development

HBR Reading Discussion Post #1

HBR Articles can be found in the week’s module.

Syllabus Description:

HBR Readings in Executive Development: The HBR discussion will center on a focal Harvard Business Review article that I have carefully selected and curated for this course. EVERYONE MUST READ THE ARTICLE!

All student must provide one response to the posting. You will need to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate the article’s importance to our understanding of current trends in executive development and workplace dynamics.  DO NOT SUMMARIZE! Use the readings form the class (i.e., text, PDFs, and videos) to help provide a vocabulary for understanding executive development.

You will be assessed on your ability to clearly identify the problems of the case, provide clear solutions, and generally apply the material from this course to understanding and solving issues in executive development and management more generally.

In addition, you will need to comment on the responses of at least two others (three postings minimum). The purpose of the response is to demonstrate your ability to explain and apply the topics of this course (readings, videos, etc.). Therefore, if all you say is something to the effect of, “I agree!” “She has a point” or “I don’t agree” and fail to provide any further explanation or context, well, then you can expect NOT to get any points for that type of response…sorry, not sorry.

Purpose: The purpose of the HBR reading is to get you acquainted with what the brightest minds in the world of management are saying. To connect the readings and discussions with real-life applications and to see the difficulties and intricacies of implementation and application.

The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate your ability to explain and apply the topics being discussed in class and in the readings

Finally, this assignment is given with the purpose of helping you to develop your critical thinking. It is meant to help you to look deeper at the world around you and to not take what you see at face value as the “truth”. I want you to approach problems with an open mind and consider all the possibilities when devising a solution. As the Irish Playwright, Oscar Wilde said, “the pure and simple truth is rarely pure and never simple.”

Skills: Skills are behaviors we perform (i.e., things we can do) and that can be learned. With time, they can be refined, and we can become better at executing them. The purpose of this assignment is to help practice the following skills that are essential to developing your Executive Edge:

  • Thinking critically about current issues in management
    • Analysis: breaking down ideas into smaller parts
    • Synthesis: assembling and arranging and rearranging ideas
    • Evaluation: making and defending judgments based on evidence
    • Application: thinking of the consequences of decision and how pros/cons on implementation, etc.
  • Effective discussion board participation
    • Effectively communicating your message to a broad audience
    • Effectively explain your ideas and offer critical commentary to peers

Knowledge: Knowledge refers to the recollection of facts and information. This assignment will help you to become familiar with the following:

  • Recalling and applying facts and information from the readings, videos, and class discussions
  • Information about how what is learned in the classroom applies to real-world contexts
  • Knowledge of the interconnectedness of work life
  • Knowledge of the crucial role of leadership and management behaviors in affecting employee morale and productivity

Task: All student must provide one response to the posting. Remember, analysis is more than just summary (i.e., describing). Analysis involves breaking down ideas into smaller parts, synthesis involves assembling and arranging ideas, and evaluation involves making and defending judgments based on evidence. The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate your ability to explain and apply the topics being discussed in class.

  • Read the article
    • Then read it again
    • Did you understand what you read? Try reading it one more time
    • Take notes…make sure that you’ve got a handle on what the basic ideas are of the article
  • Identify the key pieces of information…how are they related to each other?
  • Identify some theory or idea from the reading that connects to other ideas we’ve discussed in class.
    • Does it support or contradict the idea?
    • Not everything we read and learn about can be easily applied
  • What are some of the problems and solutions?
    • Do you all agree with the solutions, explain yourself
  • More importantly, your discussion response will need to focus on four skills:
    • Analyzing can involve some or all of the following
      • Identifying the most important information in the article (facts, experiences, data the author(s) used to support their conclusions).
      • Identifying the key conclusions and inferences presented by the author.
      • Identifying the key concepts needed to understand the article (figuring out the most important ideas needed to understand the author’s line of reasoning).
      • Identifying assumptions underlying the author’s thinking (what’s been taken for granted).
      • Identifying the implications of the author’s line of reasoning (consequences of findings).
    • Synthesizing is the process of putting all those elements of the analysis together with other ideas and thoughts
      • It’s okay if you go outside of the article
      • What other information, ideas, findings, are relevant to understanding the current article?
      • Synthesizing involves integrating various facts and pieces of information.
    • Evaluating is the process of decisions using evidence
      • Based on what has been analyzed and synthesized, what is your evaluation?
      • Are there any other implications the article may have missed? If so, what are they and why are they important?
      • Why are the findings of the article important? What consequences (seen or unforeseen) might they have?
      • What is an unanswered question that came to you from having analyzed and synthesized this article?
    • Application involves thinking about how the information presented can be used and implemented and in many ways is a part of Evaluating
      • If you were in a leadership position and found yourself in this predicament, what would you do?
      • How would you apply (use) what you’ve learned from this class given what the article is about or discusses?
      • Use your own personal work experience, give examples, or use examples of others (if you don’t have much work experience)
  • In addition, you will need to comment on the responses of at least two others (three postings minimum).
    • The purpose of the response is to engage your peers in a discussion, provide critical analysis of what they’ve said, and defend your points.
      • Therefore, if all you say is something to the effect of, “I agree!” “She has a point” or “I don’t agree” and fail to provide any further explanation or context, well, then you can expect NOT to get any points for that type of response…sorry, not sorry.

Criteria for Success: Excellent work is characterized by depth of analysis. This means that you took some time to think about the implications of what you read. You tried to connect different aspects of what you’ve learned and provided an explanation. In addition, you did more than just reiterate what was in the article; you connected, contrasted, and evaluated.

I want to you to show me that you understand and can apply the material from this course. Successful assignments (and those earning a higher grade) will have made an attempt to understand and explain all of the course material and demonstrate application of the course material.

Successful work will have the following characteristics:

  • Thoughtful responses that explain how you have understood the course material and you don’t just rewrite what the book or article said.
  • Provide depth of analysis and evaluation of the major issues raised by the article
    • It needs to be clear you took some time to think about the implications of your analysis and spent time trying to understand and explain yourself.
