Analyzing/Proposing a Medical Office Information System Group Project Instructions

A large component of this course is to learn how to evaluate user requirements and select computer-based information systems from a management perspective.
In the case study, “The North East Medical Practice,” the doctor wishes to create new efficiencies and introduce new services by enabling customers to set their appointments over the internet.  Working in groups you are asked to:

  1. Select software for the medical practice to handle the practice’s requirements.  The software should handle front-end and back-end requirements, and may be cloud-based or onsite server-based.
  2. Select all computer hardware for the medical practice including computing platforms used by the listed doctors and other medical staff and the server(s), if used.  No parts of the current architecture may be used.
  3. Select networking hardware and services to support the communication requirements of the medical practice.
  4. Select the database architecture and data warehousing architecture to support the daily transactions and the data analytics requirements of the practice.
  5. Describe how the medical practice will use social media and integrate that into their data analytics effort.
  6. Produce a schematic that graphically shows the architecture of the new system i.e., hardware, software, data, people and networking components.
  7. Define the expected benefits of the new system and for intangible benefits, produce your assumptions using equivalent real-life case studies and/or best practices
  8. Prepare a report to explain your proposed system together with all of pertinent justifications including all of the items listed above. Your report must be no less than 12 pages long (1.5 spacing with font size 11). Please feel free to add of the relevant details with tables, figures and diagrams you find suitable.
  9. How do you view the role of social media in linking the Medical Office with patients, office partners and suppliers? Does the consideration of social media portal (i.e., Office CRM) affect an existing IT system in a company?
  10. What acquisition models do you propose for a Medical Office’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems? How can one assess the right acquisition model?
  11. Prepare a PowerPoint presentation of 10 to 12 slides to discuss key selling features of your proposed system.
  12. Your submission must include both your report and presentation.  You may load as many as 6 separate files as needed, but only one submission per group. Please do include the names of all contributors.

Response 1 DB 4 (75 words)

While the realist perspective focuses on the balance of power, the liberal perspective focuses on the role of institutions, and the identity perspective focuses on ideas over power, “the critical theory perspective emphasizes all the primary causes and levels of analysis at once and adopts a holistic interpretation of reality, one that cannot be broken down into separate causes and effects or tested by rationalist means against alternative hypotheses” (Nau, 2017). The critical perspective believes that all three of the other perspectives have an intertwined effect and are not mutually exclusive. This is the same thing I believe. When you look at the current world situation you can see all three of the primary levels at play. You can also see how each one impacts the other two. The conflict in Syria is a great example of the critical theory perspective. The realist perspective would point out that Syria is a landlocked country with both enemies and allies around it, so creating a balance of power is important to regional stability. The Syrian conflict is then also impacted by liberal ideals. The institutions that are primarily at play are the Asad regime, the United States, and Russia. These institutions are all acting on specific ideas as well as power which represents the identity perspective. Each institution has an idea about how things should be done, and these ideas do not really mesh well, so it has created an impossible conflict. When you see how all three factors contribute to the region’s conflict, that is the critical theory perspective in a nutshell.

Review the following original and plagiarized passages:

ORIGINAL AUTHOR’S THOUGHTS

The correlational method can be very useful, but it must be used with caution. If knowledge of one variable (age) helps predict another (buying), does that mean that one causes the other? Not necessarily. It is possible that the first variable caused the second, or that the second variable caused the first, or that some other variable caused both variables. Without further research we cannot know which possibility is true. For example, a researcher might find a negative correlation in schools between the number of teachers monitoring hallway behavior and the number of acts of aggression in the hallway. It is possible that more teachers in the hallway caused lower aggression, but it is also possible that there were fewer teachers in the hallway in the face of aggression because they had left to avoid it. Knowing that there is a correlation between two events does not tell us which, if either, is the cause. In fact, it is quite common to have a third variable cause a correlation between two other variables. For example, sunburn and outdoor temperature are correlated. Does this mean that hot weather causes sunburn or that sunburn causes hot weather? Of course not. The summer sun causes both sunburn and hot weather. Cum hoc propter hoc—correlation does not imply causation.

“The correlational method can be very useful, but it must be used with caution.” If knowledge of one variable (height) helps predict another (weight), does that mean that one causes the other? Not necessarily. It is possible that the primary variable caused the secondary, or that the secondary variable caused the primary, or that some additional variable caused both variables. We cannot understand what chance is true without further studies. For example, ice cream consumption and violent crime are correlated. Does this mean eating ice cream causes violent crime? Or, does a spike in violent crime cause consumption of ice cream? Probably neither… rather, a common factor (e.g., heat) may be to blame for both. “Cum hoc propter hoc—correlation does not imply causation.”

Digital marketing media

A case study is a diminutive account of a factual business situation. Examining case studies allows you to apply course concepts to an actual situation. Typically, there are no “precise or erroneous” answers. Instead, it is an opportunity to validate your understanding and ability to apply course concepts to real events.

Big Skinny CEO Kiril Alexandrov is an expert at selling his company’s product – ultrathin wallets – using in-person interactions and conventional media. However, his online marketing strategy is ad hoc. Your assignment is to evaluate Big Skinny’s online marketing strategy and establish Kiril’s priorities for future online expansion.

In a Microsoft Word document, write a paper in which you assess how effectively the various digital marketing methods discussed in the case promote sales of wallets, against the backdrop of differences between online marketing and conventional advertising. You should also evaluate Big Skinny’s online marketing strategy and establish Kiril’s priorities for future online expansion. Following are questions you should consider in your paper:

1. What should Kiril focus on next? What should his lowest priority? Why?

2. How effectively is Big Skinny using social media to sell its wallets?

3. Should Big Skinny expand its partnerships with online distributors?

Support your analysis using research (Internet or other forms) and the ideas and concepts presented in chapter 14-17.

Ensure that your paper incorporates the following:

• A minimum of six pages (not including cover page, table of contents, etc.)

• Double-spaced lines

• 12-point font size text

• APA writing style

Topic 2 DQ 1

Select an Internet or magazine advertisement. Determine the likely audience. Describe how microcultures are reflected within the advertisement. What impact might this advertisement have on the audience? How might the audience’s attitudes concerning microcultures be influenced by this advertisement?

 Dwayne R.

https://www.adsoftheworld.com/media/print/nivea_worry_lines_kids

This ad is to promote a line of Nivea’s skin care products for a men’s moisturizer. It shows a man with a lot of wrinkles on his forehead with a kid hanging off of the wrinkles with a tagline of ‘because life makes wrinkles’. The likely audience of this ad is for middle age men. It also reflects microcultures in this internet advertisement. A microculture is an “identifiable group of people who share a set of values, beliefs, and behaviors and who possess a common history and a verbal and nonverbal symbol system that is similar to but systematically varies from the larger, often dominant cultural milieu,” (Neuliep, 2020). This microculture would be the group of middle age parents who are men as this group all share the same common stresses of being a parent but they are also experiencing the effects of aging and stress at the same time and these effects are clear through the wrinkles or worry lines that develop on their foreheads. This ad would be informing their audience that wrinkles and skin aging caused by stress can be lessened or reduced through the use of skincare products, specifically this moisturizer and this advertisement may have the impact on the audience by convincing this audience to purchase this product and increase Nivea’s sales of this product. A lot of the members of this microculture do not use skin care products and this may change their attitudes on this product because skin care products and moisturizers are typically considered to be something that women generally use, rather than men, however this shows that what is going on in these members of the microculture’s lives is causing their problems and it is okay to be concerned with skincare and wrinkles even as an aging male. It shows that wrinkles are brought about by different life stresses and that it is acceptable to use skincare products to reduce the effects of stress and life. I feel like this ad is trying to change the general attitudes of these middle age men and what is considered to be manly because using moisturizers and other skincare products does not typically fall under “manly” behavior but given a chance, these items can help improve this group’s health and skin.

 Kendra A.

A TV advertisement from Proctor and Gamble that aired in 2017 represented microculture. This advertisement audience segment is African Americans. The purpose of this ad is to show, scenes of black parents openly sharing truths about bias their children will experience. “the talk”, that African Americans families have to have with their children growing up in a society that does not accept the color of our skin. That makes it hard for us to be who we are and go where we want and be what we want. In this advertisement it represents pain, and discrimination that African Americans face on an everyday basis. The scenes reflect certain issues and comments pertaining to, “you are pretty for a black girl”, “let’s talk about when you get pulled over”, “you have to work twice as hard and be twice as smart”, “come straight one after practice make sure you got your ID in case you get stopped”, and “but you are not gonna let that word hurt you”. This type of microculture is still very much relevant today and it does not discriminate based on race, it is happening everywhere. I have heard the, “you have to work twice as hard and be twice as smart” my whole life. My mother had this conversation with me before I left for undergrad and it instilled me and fueled me to make sure that I not only graduated but I did with honors. I wanted to make sure that my education would be furthered not because I am African American but because I am a women in this society that often tells us no and I wanted to show them that “YES I CAN”. The audience attitude towards this segment I true believe speaks for itself. The attitude represents pain, worry, concernment, strength, hardships, disrespect, and sadness. These attitudes come from a deep place since Africans Americans were first chained and thrown to the ground as slaves without meaning. The impact and purpose of this advertisement towards the audience is that no matter where you go in life or how you grow up, “the talk” will always happen for African American children and it will be the talk that will help you further your life in this society and let you know that yes the color of your skin is different but that doesn’t mean that you can’t be who you want and have the freedom you deserve, this is your home too. My message is, “Racial inequality is the inescapable reality of America. It didn’t begin with us, but it can end with us. If we choose to act” (talkaboutbias, 2020).

This particular advertisement is one I came across earlier this year. The audience targeted is anyone who may become pregnant. It is a message by Focus on the Family that is essentially speaking out against abortion. It proposes a Pro-Life agenda. With that in mind, I would expect the audience to be limited to those who consider abortion as an option. While that audience may seem counter-intuitive to the message, hear me out. Focus on the Family is an organization that looks to make a change in the world through their messages. So, their intent with a message like this would not be to solidify the minds of those already having a child. It would want to change the minds of those who would consider abortion.

The hope would be to change the mind of someone who recently discovered they are pregnant and doesn’t want to have the child. By convincing the expectant parent to have the child they would be allowing another baby to carry on the legacy by having a child of their own. Also, in a more subliminal way, they are stating “your parent gave you life, so give life to your baby also.” I know that is not the direct message, this could be an form of subliminal messaging. After all, sometimes “the subconscious mind is aware of the messages” (Mazzei, 2020). While maybe not completely subliminal, the message is certainly there, in my opinion.

Life is precious. This is an alternative message of the advertisement. This message is clear, as well. Since this message is a more universal message, it makes the advertisement possibly targeted to anyone who watches the advertisment. So, that may simply destroy everything I have written by making the target…Everyone. I like this particular advertisement, because it offers a few messages to a variety of intended target audiences.

1. Nice run down.  You state, “Nuclear threats are posed by bitter rivalry countries such as the Middle East, Asia, and several others, endanger global security. These bitter countries increase the risk of a nuclear weapon being utilized in a deliberate attack.”  There are new ones we can expect if Iran gets nukes for instance.  Which country just this week said they would get their own nukes if Iran is successful in developing their own?  What are the implications of this?

2. Thanks for your discussion post here in week 7 on intelligence oversight and ethics. For my follow up question on the topic for this week, I would like to ask you to please take a quick look at the DHS Intelligence Oversight interim guidance, and if have time to skim over Senator Coburn’s recommendations on this issue. In the Senator’s fourth point he states “DHS’s must focus on respecting American citizens’ constitutional rights and focusing on the proper role of the federal government to restore and earn their trust”. Then I would like you to briefly share your thoughts on the state of DHS intelligence enterprise oversight. If you like, you can share what improvements (if any) you would recommend for intelligence oversight of the DHS intelligence enterprise.

3. Nice run down.  You state, “Posse Comitatus Act is a law that does not allow the willful use of all parts of the army or air force in the execution of the law unless authorized by the constitution or a congress act. The constitution does not allow military involvement in the affair of civilians.”  Why does this not apply to the National Guard?  What is the difference?

Part 2: Hospital II – Organization Functions

Assignment Overview

After carefully reading through the Module background materials, and Section II – Organization-Focused Functions, please answer the following:

We all know that many individuals use the emergency room for non-emergent issues and that this might be the only source for health care that a person has. After reading the background material and doing your own research, discuss in a 5- to 6-page paper how we can limit the overcrowding that we see in the emergency room. Discuss what you would do to improve this situation.

1.  Please outline your points, and then explain them with your own added insight.

2.  Focus on Hospital aspects, not external factors.

3.  Explain how all of your recommendations should be implemented in the hospital ER.

4.  How would your recommendations fall within the Joint Commission standards?

_________________________________________________________________________________

THE IC STANDARD:

Standards, Rationales, Elements of Performance and Scoring

The IC PROGRAM AND ITS COMPONENTS:

Standard IC. 1. 10

-The risk of development of a health care-associated infection is minimized through a hospital infection control program.

Rational for IC.1.10

-The risk of HAIs exists throughout the hospital. An effective IC program that can systematically identify risks and respond appropriately must involve all relevant programs and settings with the hospital.

Elements of Performance for IC.1.10

1.  A hospital IC program is implemented

2.  Individuals and/or positions with the authority to take steps to prevent or control the acquisition and transmission of infectious agents are identified.

3.  All applicable organizational components and functions are integrated into the IC program.

4.  Systems are in place to communicate with licensed independent practitioners, staff, students/trainees, volunteers, and as appropriate, visitors, patients, and families about infection prevention and control issues, including their responsibilities in preventing the spread of infection within the hospital.

5.  The hospital has systems for reporting infection surveillance, prevention, and control information to the following:

a.  The appropriate staff with the hospital

b.  Federal, state, and local public health authorities in accordance with law and regulation

c.  Accrediting bodies (see Sentinel Event Reporting, pages SE-8-SE-9, and National Patient Safety Goals, pages APR8-APR10)

d.  The referring or receiving organization when a patient was transferred or referred and the presence of an HAI was not known at the time of transfer or referral

6.  Systems for the investigation of outbreaks of infectious diseases are in place.

7.  Applicable policies and procedures are in place throughout the hospital.

8.  Not applicable

9.  The hospital has a written IC plan* that includes the following:

a.  A description of prioritized risks

b.  A statement of the goals of the IC program

c.  A description of the hospital’s strategies to minimize, reduce, or eliminate the prioritized risks

d.  A description of how the strategies will be evaluated

*Written Plan– a succinct, useful document, formulated beforehand, that identifies needs, lists strategies to meet those needs, and sets goals and objectives. The format of the “plan” may

include narratives, policies and procedures, protocols, practice guidelines, clinical paths, care maps, or combinations of these. *

Standard IC.2.10

-The infection control program identifies risks for the acquisition and transmission of infectious agents on an ongoing basis.

Rationale for IC.2.10

-A hospital’s risks of infection will vary based on the hospital’s geographic location, the community environment, the types of programs/services provided, and the characteristics and behaviors of the population served. As these risks change over time- sometimes rapidly- risk assessment must be an ongoing process.

Elements of Performance for IC.2.10

1.  The hospital identified risk for the transmission and acquisition of infectious agents throughout the hospital based on the following factors:

a.  The geographic location and community environment of the hospital, program/service provided, and the characteristics of the population served.

b.  The results of the analysis of the hospital’s infection prevention and control data

c.  The care, treatment, and services provided

2.  The risk analysis is formally reviewed at least annually and whenever significant changes occur in ant of the above factors

3.  Surveillances activities, including data collection and analysis, are used to identify infection prevention and control risks pertaining to the following:

a.  Patients

b.  Licensed independent practitioners, staff, volunteers, and student/trainees

c.  Visitors and families, as warranted

Compliance program

Your health care organization has had several small compliance incidents in the past two years, and the organization is now motivated to update their compliance program. Your executive leadership team asked you to review two health care compliance programs from similar organizations to determine how they constructed their compliance program and what aspects your organization should adopt.

Select the type of health care organization you want represented in this assignment (e.g., family practice, hospital, urgent care, or nursing home).

Locate two compliance program documents from comparable health care organizations using your Internet search engine.

Read both compliance program documents and examine the similarities and differences between the two.

Create a matrix that compares how both organizations execute the following compliance components:

  • How internal monitoring and auditing is conducted
  • How compliance and practice standards are implemented
  • The designated compliance officer (or person designated to be the contact for compliance matters), who that person reports to, and their relationship to the organization’s governing board
  • How employees are trained and educated to model compliant behaviors
  • How violations or offenses are detected, reported, and corrected
  • How lines of communication with employees is developed
  • How disciplinary standards are enforced

Write a 525- to 700-word executive summary that informs your executive leadership about the matrix you created and offer your opinion as to which best practices the organization should adopt for its own compliance program.

Cite the 2 compliance program documents and any additional references that support your opinion (e.g., trade or industry publications, government or agency websites, scholarly works, or other sources of similar quality)
