discussion question response

Question: Chapter 3 in Rosenstand’s The Moral of the Story deals with the issue of moral truth—what is the morally right thing to do in a particular situation and what are the correct principles or guidelines for a living a morally good life? Moral subjectivism is the view that moral propositions are true only relative to the particular beliefs of a particular person or subject of experience; ethical relativism is the view that what is good, right, and morally correct is true relative to a particular cultural tradition and set of behavioral practices; and moral absolutism (this is what Rosenstand calls “hard universalism” is the view that there are universal moral truths or principles that hold for everyone, everywhere, at all times and under any circumstances.

The most common viewpoint adopted by college students today is ethical relativism, and this is probably because it seems to be the most tolerant and fair-minded position, in that it respects diversity and individuality. However, Rosenstand points to a number of problems with ethical relativism. Where do you place yourself on this spectrum of moral stances? Are you a moral skeptic or a moral subjectivist? an ethical relativist? a moral absolutist? If you have never thought about this before, now is the time to do so. Explain why you hold the viewpoint you do, and defend that view from what might be seen as at least one major difficulty with adopting that ethical stance. Alice Walker’s novel, Possessing the Secret of Joy (1992), presents a strong case against ethical relativism by denouncing the practice of female circumcision, or perhaps more accurately termed, female genital mutilation, a traditional practice of certain cultures that is seen as morally correct, as not only the right thing to do, but something that one is morally obligated to do. If you are an ethical relativist, you should be able to show why Walker is wrong for condemning this practice as morally wrong. If those who carry out the practice believe that it is the morally right thing to do, who is Walker, or who is anyone with different beliefs, to tell them they are wrong?

Project Progress

The PCNet Project (B) **Dynamically Managing Residual Risk**

Assignment is based on the case study

This case was written by Christoph H. Loch, Professor of Technology and Operations Management at INSEAD. It is based on real events, but the names of all companies and participants have been disguised. Any similarity with existing companies is accidental. The case is intended to be used as a basis for class discussion rather than to illustrate the effective or ineffective handling of an administrative situation.

Note: The assignments depend on one another. During the project life cycle, project risk reviews and reports are required, as previously identified in the risk management plan. Two months after the project started, the following events have taken place:

  • The top two threats have occurred.
  • The top opportunity has been realized.
  • The project’s risk budget is already exhausted.
  • The risk management schedule has been shortened by two months.

Write a 4–6 page paper in which you:

  1. Analyze the impact of the events on the project.
  2. Determine if any mitigation activities are required and explain why.
  3. Determine if budget or schedule changes are necessary and explain why.
  4. Update the risk register and highlight the changes made. Provide the justification for the changes.
  5. Use at least four quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar websites do not qualify as quality resources.

This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards. For assistance and information, please refer to the Strayer Writing Standards link in the left-hand menu of your course. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.

The specific course learning outcome associated with this assignment is:

  • Assess the impact of events on the project’s progress      in order to determine an appropriate risk response plan.

Discussion Response – Algorithms and Their Apps

Please respond with 150 words or more to the discussion below with your own opinion on algorithms, sorting, and the concepts that go along with it.

After reading and doing my own research about arrays in programing, I  thought it made sense and I understood it. I was familiar with GUI as I  have worked with VM Ware before. I’m a visual learner, so after  watching hours and hours of Youtube videos I did not think it would be  hard to incorporate into my program. Module 3 was the module I struggled  with the most. Not with understanding, but more so with writing the  actual program. I had such a hard time figuring out the proper commands  to put in to make the program do what I wanted it to do. I will keep  watching videos and asking peers and colleagues I have in the I.T world  for help.

We use sorting in the real world more than we know. In the  programming world, sorting is a set of instructions that take an array  or list as an input and arrange the items into a particular  order. Sortings are mostly done in numerical order or alphabetical  order. Sortings can be done in ascending (A-Z, 0-9) or descending (Z-A,  9-0) order. In the real world, we use sorting when doing things such as  online shopping. We can filter results by sorting based on ascending  prices (low to high) or descending prices (high to low). We can also  sort y color, material, size, etc depending on what you are shopping  for. Another example of when we use sorting is when we are looking at  music we have downloaded on our smartphones, songs and/or artists are  usually sorted out alphabetically in ascending order.

4 pages Explication Essay

The assignment is to write an essay, which shows, from an objective/neutral standpoint, how a series of ideas substantiate a basic thesis. You may choose from any of the non-fiction texts assigned thus far—including McRaney.

The goal here is to carefully breakdown a number of concepts the author poses in the development of their essay, which feed into his/her thesis statement. That is, locate specific concepts raised in the article, explain what the idea is, why it is important for the thesis— in the particular analysis. Essentially, in your analysis, work through a set of main ideas raised by the author: you should communicate the meaning and impact of particular ideas introduced by the author, while then also showing how these particular ideas begin to form the basis of the thesis claim.

You need to choose a minimum of 4 main ideas that the author puts forward. This means that the paper requires a minimum of 4 substantial quotes that will be explained by you. The particular ideas you choose should be clear enough that they can be tied to the larger thesis of the author’s piece. Also, you should be able to transition between the paragraphs and ideas, showing the basic connections/relations between the various concepts, which culminate into the thesis.

The requirement of this form of analytic approach is to show the author’s thought process at work, objectively—to explore what ideas seemed vital to them, in relation to the author’s presentation of his/her thesis. By explaining the crux of the concepts they introduce, in terms of significance, your writing should display the inner working of their analysis and how ideas lead to the fundamental argument.

Discussion board

You are invited to a friend’s house for Thanksgiving dinner. After dinner, your friend’s father complains of “heartburn,” saying his left arm is tingling and he feels short of breath. You are pretty sure he’s having a heart attack and recommend he call 911. He says, “No, it will go away in a minute. I just ate too much.”

Do you override his wishes and call 911 anyway?

What do you do?

Please include the name of the person or question to which you are replying in the subject line. For example, “Tom’s response to Susan’s comment.” ALSO PLEASE RESPOND TO ANOTHER STUDENT COMMENT BELOW ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

I would override his wishes and call 911. All of his symptoms are signs of a heart attack. If he only had heartburn I wouldn’t worry but because he has heartburn along with a tingling in his arm and shortness of breath I would believe it was a heart attack. A heart attack is serious and the time he has to get to the hospital could be life or death. I will say I was with my mother when she had a heart attack and she never felt pain or discomfort in her arm. She felt nauseous and fatigue at first then, she started to feel pressure in her chest. She said it felt like an elephant was sitting on her chest. Signs and symptoms of a heart attack may differ from person to person. When one symptom of a heart attack is followed by others then it’s best to assume it’s a heart attack and seek medical attention to be safe. In this case, I can only assume the guy may be mad at first that I didn’t respect his wishes but I suspect he would thank me later.
