Participate in the discussion by asking a question, providing a statement of clarification, providing a point of view with a rationale, challenging an aspect of the discussion, or indicating a relationship between two or more lines of reasoning in the discussion. Cite sources in your responses to other peers. Complete your participation for this assignment by the end of the week.

Should America Fire Ronald McDonald?

There are ethical issues and potential ramifications to consider in marketing when unhealthy products (or those that would be unhealthy when consumed in excess) are sold. Examples could include some of the advertising used for sodas and sugary drinks, alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, and high-calorie “junk food.” A particularly sensitive topic is the issue of marketing to children. Think about how perceptions of “healthy,” what business practices are socially acceptable, and where responsibilities lie have changed over time.

Several articles on this subject have been identified for you in the South University Online Library and are listed below. Review those and conduct your own research on this topic. Then respond to the following:

  • Ronald McDonald has been a staple in advertising McDonald’s fast-food restaurants since the 1960s. What ethical issues do you see in using Ronald McDonald or McDonald’s new mascot, Happy, to market to children?
  • Is it ethical to use either Ronald or Happy in McDonald’s charitable efforts? What issues concern you?
  • Should McDonald’s and other food sellers do more to make their menus healthy?
  • What changes do you think should be made to try and resolve some of these issues, and how would you go about implementing them?

Be sure to cite appropriately from your reading/research in your post and responses. As you respond to your peers, debate the resolution of ethical dilemmas based upon your reading, research, and experience; consider the issues from multiple perspectives and the problems that can arise when trying to resolve these issues.

Essay phl

When faced with a problem, what do you do to solve it? This assignment asks you to apply a six-step to problem solving process to a specific problem scenario. You will write a paper that presents a synthesis of your ideas about solving the problem using this systematic approach. As Voltaire said, “No problem can withstand the assault of sustained thinking.”

Choose one (1) of the problem scenarios as a topic choice for your paper (Note: Your professor must approve your topic choice before you begin work on the assignment.)

Scenario 1: You have worked at your company for eleven (11) years. You have returned to college to earn a Bachelor’s degree in order to increase your chances for a promotion. You are nearly finished with your degree, when a supervisor’s position in a competing company becomes available in another state. The start date is in two (2) weeks, during your final exam period for your courses. The position offers a $15,000 per year salary increase, a car allowance, and relocation expenses. Your former supervisor works for the company and is recommending you for the position based on your outstanding job performance; if you want the job, it’s yours. All of the other supervisors at this level in the company have Master’s degrees, so you know that you would be expected to earn your Bachelor’s degree and continue on to a Master’s degree. Your present company offers tuition reimbursement, but the new company does not.

Scenario 2: Your child comes home from school with an assignment sheet for a school project. He / she is very excited about the project and begins work immediately, doing research on the Internet and gathering materials. You read over the assignment sheet and notice that your child is not including all of the required items in the project, and you have some ideas for how to improve the quality of the presentation. You recently read an article in a parenting magazine about the importance of a child developing responsibility for his/ her own learning. You recall the many ways in which your parents took over your school projects. You, on the other hand, want to encourage your child’s confidence in his / her ability to complete a project independently. The next day, you are at the grocery store when you see a parent of a student in your child’s class. That parent has spent over $30 in supplies for the science project and is taking a day off of work to put the pieces of the project together.

Scenario 3: You have two jobs, one during the week from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, and one on Saturday from 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm. You are taking two classes, one that meets from 6:00 to 10:00 pm, and one class online. You have two kids, one who plays soccer, and one who is in band. You have two elderly parents who no longer drive. You have two siblings, one who lives two (2) miles away, and one who lives in another state. You have two (2) papers due in your classes the same week that one (1) of your children has a soccer tournament, and the other child has a band concert. You are coaching the soccer team, and you are in charge of fundraising for the band. You have a goal to complete your degree in two (2) years. Your doctor tells you that your blood pressure, your cholesterol, and your weight are too high and recommends several medications that cost you nearly $200 per month after your insurance co-pay.

Scenario 4: You are a sales representative for a company that encourages staff to log time in the field and away from the office. You are expected to begin and end your day at the office. You notice that each day when you arrive and return another co-worker is already there, and you wonder whether this person spends most of his / her time at the office. At your weekly sales meeting, you are informed of your co-workers’ outstanding sales performance. You suspect that this co-worker is spending more time flattering the boss instead of working leads in the field, and as a result is getting the best client referrals. Your own sales numbers have steadily decreased since this other sales representative was hired.

Scenario 5: Professor’s Choice – problem scenario presented by your professor.

Scenario 6: Student’s Choice – Problem scenario presented by you.

Review the six-step problem solving process outlined in the webtext, based on the article “The Problem Solving Process” located at http://www.gdrc.org/decision/problem-solve.html:

  • Step One: Define the problem
  • Step Two: Analyze the problem
  • Step Three: Generate options
  • Step Four: Evaluate options
  • Step Five: Make your decision
  • Step Six: Implement and reflect

Write a four to five (4-5) page paper in which you:

  1. Define the problem in the scenario that you have chosen.
  2. Analyze the problem in the scenario.
  3. Generate options for solving the problem in the scenario.
  4. Evaluate the options for solving the problem.
  5. Decide on the best option for solving the problem.
  6. Explain how you will implement the decision made and reflect on whether this option was the most effective.

The paper should follow guidelines for clear and organized writing:

  • Include an introductory paragraph and concluding paragraph.
  • Address main ideas in body paragraphs with a topic sentence and supporting sentences.
  • Adhere to standard rules of English grammar, punctuation, mechanics, and spelling.

COMMENT1

Heart failure is a clinical syndrome caused by structural and functional defects in the myocardium which results in the impaired ventricular filling and the ejection of blood (Inamdar &Inamdar,2016). Based on the functional status of the heart, heart failure can be classified as heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF).

Based on the cardiac output, HF can also be classified as a high-output failure and low-output failure (Inamdar &Inamdar,2016). High-output failure can be caused by anemia, vascular shunting, hyperthyroidism and vitamin B1 deficiency. Low-output heart failure is characterized by insufficient forward cardiac output and is much more common than the high-output heart failure. Mrs. J has clinical symptoms of biventricular heart failure which is characterized by poor cardiac output-forward failure, and congestion of the blood behind the pumping chamber-backward failure (Copstead-Kirkhorn,& Banasik, 2014).

COMMENT2

The patient is very anxious at this time based on the kind of questions that she is asking, and her oxygen saturation level at 82% is increasing the workload of the heart. Supplemental oxygen therapy should be started to compensate by decreasing the heart’s workload, increase oxygen delivery to the body tissues to prevent serious damage to the brain and other vital organs. Patient need to be reassured that the medical team is making every effort necessary to take care of her symptoms. This first interventions will help reduce her anxiety and get her mind focused on getting better. This should be followed with continuous monitoring of her vital signs, paying close attention to ECG readings, heart rate and rhythm, blood pressure,  intake and output, further lab works and results as ordered and following other prescribed therapies as ordered. (Amakali, 2015).

The patient’s smoking issue need to be addressed as well starting from admission. Patient admits to smoking 40 cigarettes a day. She need to know that she may not be allowed to smoke while admitted in the hospital.Tthe doctor may order alternative to smoking such as nicotine patch to provide some support for the patient and start the process of smoking cessation. The dangerous effects of her smoking would need to be explained to her through a comprehensive teaching program prepared while in the hospital and prior to discharge.

Due Saturday by 5 pm

In 1960, there were approximately 11.7 million girls between the ages of 12 to 17 in the United States. These young women earned, through allowance and babysitting, on average four dollars a week in discretionary income; they spent it on magazines, movies, records, clothing and make-up.

Also in 1960, The Shirelles’ “Tonight’s the Night” broke on to the Billboard Top 40 chart. A few months later, in January of 1961, The Shirelles would spend two weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart with their hit “Will You Love Me Tomorrow.” It was the first time an African American all-female group would hit the number one spot. From the early to mid-1960s more than 1500 all-female groups would try to follow in the Shirelles’ footsteps. Some of the most successful of these groups would be: The Ronettes, The Crystals, The Shangri-Las, Martha and the Vandellas, The Chiffons, and (The Supremes).

Research a few of these girl groups. Gather important details including: titles of songs, names of groups, and lyrics from songs. Think about why the girl group The Supremes were so popular. What could be seen as troubling to parents? Were the girl groups of the 1960s a reflection of traditional female roles or voices of empowerment?

Watch a few clips of these groups (using YouTube or other sources). (Important) Be sure to include these clips in your works cited list.

Write an essay using the information and details you gathered from your research above to answer the following questions.

  • During the early to mid-1960s, female pop music groups became wildly popular with American teenagers. Why do you think this was so?
  • When you look at what they were singing about, what does that implies, think of what the parents of that time period was trying to prevent. For example (Rebellion, sex before marriage, etc.) Make some connections with the song and what was going on in the time period. Why was this music seen as dangerous to parents during this time?
  • Were the girl groups of the 1960s a reflection of traditional female roles or voices of empowerment? Example, ) the teen’s dress attire, make up, etc.)

Please answer all questions and follow the directions as listed, Support your answers with specifics gathered from your research above. This paper should be 2=3 pages, and in APA style. When using in-text citations, please reference your sources. Please use reliable sources from google scholarly, text books, or from the school library. I will check.  Do Not Use Wikipedia it is not a reliable source.

6053 Discussion 1

As you strive to grow in your leadership skills and abilities, you will find that the context in which you work influences your motivation and areas of focus. In a similar vein, your commitment to developing professionally can contribute toward organizational effectiveness.

To that end, it is critical to recognize the importance of organizational culture and climate. In particular, through this week’s Learning Resources, you may consider several questions: How do an organization’s mission, vision, and values relate to its culture? What is the difference between culture and climate? Moreover, how are culture and climate manifested within the organization?

For this Discussion, you explore the culture and climate of your current organization or one with which you are familiar. You also consider decisions and day-to-day practices and the way they relate to the organization’s mission, vision, and values.

To prepare:

  • Review the information related to planning and decision making in health care organizations presented in the textbook, Leadership Roles and Management Functions in Nursing: Theory and Application. Consider how planning and decision making relate to an organization’s mission, vision, and values, as well as its culture and its climate.
  • Familiarize yourself with the mission, vision, and values of your organization or one with which you are familiar. Consider how the statements and actions of leaders and others within the organization support or demonstrate the organizational mission, vision, and values. In addition, note any apparent discrepancies between word and deed. Think about how this translates into expectations for direct service providers. Note any data or artifacts that seem to indicate whether behaviors within the organization are congruent with its mission, vision, and values.
  • Begin to examine and reflect on the culture and climate of the organization. How do culture and climate differ?
  • Why is it important for you, as a master’s-prepared nurse leader, to be cognizant of these matters?

Post a description of your selected organization’s mission, vision, and values. Describe relevant data, or artifacts, words, and actions of leaders and others in the organization that support, or perhaps appear to contradict the organization’s mission, vision, and values statement. In addition, discuss the organization’s culture and its climate, differentiating between the two. Explain why examining these matters is significant to your role as a nurse leader.
