Assignment #1: Annotated Bibliography

Instructions

Assignment 1: The Annotated Bibliography

Objective: Assess sources for your research for your final presentation (for credibility, reliability, and relevance) and list references in proper APA format

Assignment Instructions: The Research Project/Presentation for this class is divided into three major Assignments, 1) annotated bibliography, 2) outline and 3) final presentation. The first part is the annotated bibliography. An annotation is a summary and evaluation, and your annotated bibliography will include a summary and evaluation of some of the sources (or references) you will use for your presentation.

To prepare for this assignment, I recommend that you do the following:

  • Read these directions carefully.
  • Review the sample annotated bibliography provided to you below.
  • Message me using Classroom Support with any questions!

The reason the annotated bibliography is included as part of the research project is that writing an annotated bibliography is important in that it provides excellent preparation for the final presentation. One of the issues regarding any type of research, especially in chemistry, is the credibility of the sources used, particularly those obtained from various websites. By forcing you to evaluate each of your potential sources carefully, the annotated bibliography helps you determine if in fact the source you chose is credible and helps you determine how relevant it is to your topic and understand the topic better which will help you develop your presentation.

For this project, you will assess three sources to include:

1) a complete citation for each source,

2) a summary of each source, and

3) an evaluation of each source.

Three sources are required for this assignment (i.e., you are to write an annotation for each source). However, you must use five or more sources in your final presentation.

Use this TEMPLATE to summarize and evaluate each of your three sources.

  1. Citation:

Written in APA reference list format. For more help with formatting, see APA handout.

  1. Summary:

What is the purpose of the source, review article, original research? What topics are covered? This section is generally 4-6 sentences that summarize the author’s main point. For more help, see this link on paraphrasing sources.

  1. Evaluation:

After summarizing the article (or research paper or book), it is necessary to evaluate it and state where you found it – its source (e.g., journal, website, etc.). Briefly answer the following questions in 4-6 sentences:

What is the format or type of source (e.g., peer-reviewed journal paper, website, book)? How reliable is the information in the article, and how credible is the source (e.g., website’s sponsoring organization, journal or book publisher) and the author(s)?

For more help, see this handout on evaluating resources.

Module 02 Project-Analysis

Module 02 Content

  1. Barbara receives an email from her manager asking about the progress of the strategic plan. The manager informs Barbara that UCCO is wanting to implement a new electronic health record (EHR), to improve the overall process of providing quality patient care; and organizational challenges. After her discussion, Barbara realizes that she would need to complete a situational analysis. By performing a situational analysis, planners can help anticipate and manage change. Understanding the internal and external environment is also critical to an effective strategic plan. For the external environment, planners look at opportunities and threats. For the internal environment, planners look at strengths and weaknesses.

For this project assignment on UCCO, complete a minimum of a 1-2 page report and two SWOT tables to describe key opportunities, threats, strengths, and weaknesses in selecting an electronic record system. Your written report should address the following concepts:

Visit the Rasmussen online Library and search for a minimum of 2 articles covering the topics of electronic health record implementation. Conduct academic research using the library’s databases, like:

    • CINAHL
    • Discovery
    • Business Source Complete via EBSCO
    • Business via ProQuest
    • What is the current economic situation for UCCO? What suggestions can Barbara make to help mitigate financial issues? Use the financial review provided in the UCCO case.
    • What type of electronic record system should Barbara recommend for the company? What is her best option? What are the financial implications? Explain the choice based on what the system can provide in comparison to the organizational challenges?
    • Visit the Internet and search for a minimum of 2 electronic health record systems. Search for types of EHR systems.

To complete this assignment, construct two situational/SWOT analysis tables – one for each electronic record system being considered – that contains the following:

    • External influences – opportunities and threats.
    • Internal influences – strengths and weaknesses.
    • Trends that can impact clinic performance, market and financial position
    • EHR System functions and capabilities
    • EHR End-user requirements and ease of use
    • Remember to integrate citations accurately and appropriately for all resource types; use attribution (credit) as a method to avoid plagiarism. Use NoodleBib to document your sources and to complete your APA formatted reference page and in-text citations.

Transferable Skills for this Project Stage:

    • Digital Fluency
    • Critical Thinking

MGT 599 Module 2

Module 2 – Case

THE EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT, INTERNAL PROFILE, AND SWOT

Assignment Overview

Remember that the Case in this course is an ongoing exercise, meaning that we will be taking an intensive look at one company over the course of our four modules. This session, we will be conducting a strategic analysis of Pepsico.

The outcome of this Case is to use a completed external and internal analysis of Pepsico in the completion of a SWOT.

Case Assignment

In a 7- to 10-page paper, integrate your external and internal company analysis, completing a formal company SWOT.

Keys to the Assignment

· Step 1: Perform research, and complete an industry analysis using each of the Five Forces in Porter’s model. Support your analysis with current financial, operational, and marketing data.

· Step 2: Complete your external analysis using each of the four elements in the PEST analysis. When considering economic data, use the most current data you can find.

· Step 3: Write up the results of your external analysis, and be sure to label the impact of each of the Five Forces as high, moderate, or low. Taken together, the Five Forces analysis and the PEST analysis should lead to conclusions about the overall opportunities and threats facing Pepsico as revealed by your research. All data and factual information that you report in your Five Forces and PEST analysis must be properly cited using APA style.

· Step 4: Conduct a critical and thorough internal analysis of Pepsico, assessing as many of the company’s key internal strengths and weaknesses as you can. Consider the operations, customer service, finance, human resources management, and marketing functions. See the following website, as it will help you decide which strengths and weaknesses you might wish to evaluate: http://www.businessballs.com/swotanalysisfreetemplate.htm

· Step 5: Discuss the results of your internal analysis, including your conclusions concerning the strengths and weaknesses facing Pepsico.

· Step 6: Synthesize your internal analysis with your external environmental analysis, formulating a complete SWOT analysis. Provide a SWOT diagram (include as an Appendix – not as part of the written analysis) in which you show – in each of the four quadrants – the most important 3-4 company strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Each of these should be discussed thoroughly within your written analysis.

· Based on your SWOT, give very specific and informed recommendations as to what the company should do. Give your overall analysis—does the company have more strengths than weaknesses? More weaknesses than strengths? Whatever you decide, you need to recommend (with strong, convincing support) what you believe should be the company’s strategy — in response to your collective assessment of the organization’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. You must demonstrate evidence of critical thinking – do not simply restate facts you have learned about the company. Interpret the data and factual information you have found instead.

· Step 7: Consider the Case as a formal business report that you are developing for the Board of Directors and CEO as Pepsico’s external consultant. This is a professional document. Follow the format below:

· Executive summary: This is a synopsis of the main points, conclusions and recommendations made in the longer report. If you would like a refresher on writing an executive summary, check this website: http://www.csun.edu/~vcecn006/summary.html

· Introduction: State the main purpose of the paper (thesis statement), what you hope to accomplish, and how you will go about doing it.

· Main Body: The “meat” of the paper. Emphasize analysis, not just description. Delineate separate topics or sections with section headings.

· Conclusion: Summarize your paper in the light of your thesis statement.

Assignment Expectations

Your paper will be evaluated using the grading rubric.

Tips and Suggestions

Note the following tips and suggestions:

· Business school case-study assignments are meant to offer practice opportunities for future businesspeople who are earning their MBA degrees. Consider yourself a consultant hired by the company to make these critical assessments. There are no right or wrong answers to the Case questions – however, your position must be well-defended.

· Study the theoretical concepts provided in the Background materials section of the module, and identify main strategy concepts.

· Conduct additional research on the organization using IBISWorld in the TUI Library. IBISWorld is accessible through the Trident Library Access search located at the TLC Home Page. Under the Library Access search box, click on “Additional Library Sources.” IBISWorld is included in the list. For navigation help, click here: IBISWorld Navigation Tips.

· Include a cover page and reference page, in addition to the 7-10 pages of analysis described above.

· Include section headings in all papers.

· Cite and reference all sources, including those that you paraphrase. This means include citations and quotation marks for direct quotes, and citations for information you have “borrowed” or paraphrased from other sources.

· Follow Trident Guidelines for Well-Written Papers.

· Submit your analysis by the end of this module.

Module 2 – SLP

THE EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT, INTERNAL PROFILE, AND SWOT

Simulation

Wonder Company Simulation

Simulation

The Module 2 SLP requires that you continue with the scenario and simulation you began in the Module 1 SLP.

SCENARIO CONTINUATION

SLP2 – It is January 15, 2017. You have finished analyzing the performance of the Wonder Company, and you have submitted the report requested by your CEO, Sally Smothers. You are ready to move forward to 2017, but then…..

….as you turn on the TV, you notice something very strange. You recognize that the date is January 1, 2013, and that you get to make the decisions for the Wonder Company for the 4-year period beginning with 2013. Your challenge is to do better than Joe Thomas.

At the beginning of each year (2013-2016), you will determine your pricing, your R&D allocations, and whether or not to discontinue any products. You are required to make your decisions for each year, and to report your results to see what happened. You must keep track of your decisions, making specific notes supporting each of your decisions.

Run the Wonder Co. simulation through the end of 2016. When you are finished, the date will be December 31, 2016. What is your total Score? Did you do better than Joe Thomas?

You organize your notes about your decisions, your analysis, and your reasoning into a well-written report.

Session Long Project

Run the Wonder Company simulation with your strategy, making decisions year by year for prices and R&D allocations. Write a 6- to 7-page paper, not including cover and reference pages, in which you discuss the decisions and the results for each year. Discuss why you did better (or worse) than Joe Thomas.

KEYS TO THE ASSIGNMENT

The key aspects of this assignment that should be covered and taken into account in preparing your paper include:

· As you run the simulation, keep track of your decisions and the results – both financial and marketing. Copy and paste the results into Excel or into a Word document. You will also want to record the information that you get from the Advisor. Make a note of your Final Total Score.

· Include your Final Total Score, some tables, and/or graphs showing key results. Using sound logic, be sure to clearly explain the differences from Joe.

· Remember that the key here is quality of analysis.

· Time Line Summary:

SLP1

· 2016: You are hired on December 31, 2016.

· Turned in first report to the CEO on January 15, 2017.

SLP2

· You again find yourself in a Time Warp that takes you back to January 1, 2013.

· You revise the decisions made by Joe for 2013 – 2016. You make new decisions each year.

· December 31, 2016 – You have gone through all four years, and you write your second report to summarize how you did.

SLP Assignment Expectations

Your paper will be evaluated using the grading rubric.

TIPS AND SUGGESTIONS

Please note the following tips and suggestions:

· Include a cover page and reference page, in addition to the 6-7 pages of analysis described above:

o Use section headings as appropriate. Use graphs, charts, or figures strategically – but do not use these as “space fillers.” Include large graphs, etc., as an Appendix instead.

o Cite and reference all sources that you use in your work, including those that you paraphrase. This means include citations and quotation marks for direct quotes, and citations for that information which you have “borrowed” or paraphrased from other sources.

o Follow the Trident Guidelines for well-written papers.

to write a 800 word essay

n chapter two we covered several arguments that deal with whether or not there is mind or only a physical brain that directs thinking. Take a position whether you think there is a mind separate from the body (brain)and explain how, given your choice you think the two interact. Alternatively you may take the position that there is only a physical brain that directs thinking and explain how one would account for the operations usually ascribed to mind. You should begin by stating the position you want to defend and say whether or not you agree with this argument. If you disagree with this argument take any of the counter arguments for the opposing position and be sure to: (1) give a brief outline of this argument, (2) tell me what its strong points are, and (3) subject it to a thought experiment of your own design (that means, don’t copy from the book), to show why mind separate from the physical body is not a viable position.  Finally, discuss how this issue affects you at a personal level.

(Second Choice) In chapter 3 you learned about issues and arguments associated with the question of free will. The issue I would like you to discuss is whether you think free will and voluntary action is possible and how you would explain why we are free even though the universe around us operates according to a fixed and fully determined set of laws. In other words how is it possible, if in fact is possible, to act in a voluntary manner (meaning we all take full responsibility for our actions), while all the laws of nature seem to say otherwise. Take a position whether you think free will is possible. You should begin by stating the determinist position and say whether or not you agree with this argument. If you agree with this argument take any of the counter arguments for freedom of the will and be sure to: (1) give a brief outline of this argument, (2) tell me what its strong points are, and (3) subject it to a thought experiment of your own design (that means, don’t copy from the book), to show why free will is a viable position.  Finally, discuss how this issue affects you at a personal level.

instructions:

1. the minimum word count for these essays is 800. When you submit them please be sure to use the ecampus HTML link (associated with each paper assignment), feature to deliver the paper Please do not email them to me. The deadline for the submission of these papers is the last day of regularly scheduled class. The purpose of these papers is to focus on one argument or theory. The goal is not to do research (looking up stuff in the library) but to focus your thoughts on one argument or one position and dig deep. Your grade on these papers will be primarily based on the clarity of your writing, the command of the material and the “depth” of your explanations. (Which side of the issue you are on is completely irrelevant). You should also briefly explain the effect this assignment has had on your view of the subject.(i.e., has the assignment strengthened your initial position, or has it been altered as a result of doing the assignment, and explain how. You will also be graded according your ability to create an informed personal response to a philosophical problem by writing an essay in which you develop and defend your personal response to a selected philosophical problem.

wk 4 db Response

Outside of psychoanalytic and behaviorism theories, there is another factor that drives actions and behaviors; the desire to succeed and live a positive life.  Two movements aimed to focus more on the positive experiences and thoughts that drive behavior than the negative ones that Freud focused on.  (Cervone & Pervin, 2019) The Human potential movement looks at the potential of a human being and their drive to be and do good. The positive psychology movement aimed to use all people both those suffering from psychological issues and those that do not to create an understanding of how positive attitudes, behaviors, and feelings affect development.

Existentialism is a theory that there are factors such as religion, death, or phenomena that exists, but cannot be fully explained or understood, it relies on faith.  (Cervone & Pervin, 2019)    One aspect of existentialism is the view of the individual as a variable that only plays a small role in development but is defined to have free will and is unique.  Within this view it is understood that each individual experience es things differently than all others and therefore actions and behaviors derived from these experiences are different.

These two theories are related because they identify that positivity and potential are key factors in psychology.  In addition, not all things need to be explained.  Positive outlooks and hope are found within individuals and religion, for example. With unknown origin, hope and positivity help to guide humanistic strengths and aid in survival.  It is also interesting to examine the will to live in the face of imminent death that is also addressed with existentialism.  Positive psychology addresses this with quality of life, positive mental attitude that provides enjoyable progress and development until death.

Third-party logistic suppliers response

Requesting 200 words response to the following post using at least three substantive peer-reviewed scholarly journal articles (different than in the below post) to provide those substantive replies.   You may utilize only the main article as a reference.

The key term and why you are interested in it?

The key term that I have selected is third-party logistic suppliers, also known as the 3PL. (Satterlee, 2014) This term is interesting to me for one major reason. One week ago, I took over my organization’s 3PL, and am fully responsible for all product movement between my company and the purchasing customers. The company I work for not only utilizes 3PL for warehousing and transportation but also provides the following services order to cash, returns, and chargebacks. In the pharmaceutical industry, 3PLs are extremely common for middle to small-sized companies in order to decrease overhead, and gain access to shared services.

Explanation of the key term?

A third-party logistics supplier, “can contribute to nearly all aspects of an organization, including purchasing, finance, marketing, and operations” (Satterlee, 2014). Other service offerings that may be provided by a 3PL are warehouse, transportation, refrigeration, order to cash processing, returns, and destruction services. The third-party logistics suppliers’ global market was valued at $830 billion in 2019 and is forecasted to be approximate $1.7 trillion by 2027 (Grand View Research, 2020).

In an article by Antonio Rodriguez, he states that “economic growth increases the need for continuous improvement of logistics processes because customers seek better operational performance” (Rodrigues et al., 2018). This is a key link of the overall supply chain for most manufacturers.  If the warehouse is not performing to the optimal level of performance, it causes delay in product, or missed shipments.  An organization’s value in deploying a 3PL would lead to a primary focus on distribution operations. They also have the capability to provide shared services, decreasing the costs due to their efforts across multiple manufacturers.

Major Article Summary

In the article by Rodrigues et al., they look at the variables that play a role in the performance of a 3PL and their refrigerated services. Many 3PLs offer a variety of services and in order to remain competitive, they must improve the performance of their services for their customers. Technology and communication are important to service offerings of refrigerated or cold chain processes (Rodrigues et al., 2018). For a product to maintain its quality, the 3PL must retain the proper temperature throughout the storage, packaging, transportation, and delivery. Some of the technology that a 3PL may need to offer for a cold chain product includes temperature tales, refrigerated trucks, special coolers for shipping, and refrigerated pallet locations.

“Three reasons for outsourcing logistics are (1) service improvement, (2) cost reduction, and (3) a desire by the organizations that purchase logistics services to focus on their competencies” (Rodrigues et al., 2018). Though all three are respectable reasons for employing a 3PL, it can also have its drawbacks, which may include inconsistent staff, longer lead times for projects, lack of customization, or even disruptions due to other manufacturers in a shared space. Manufacturers must rely on KPIs, benchmark studies, and audits to maintain a high level of effectiveness and performance from their 3PL partner.

The outcome that Rodrigues et al. discovered was, “that in fact, pure, technical and scale efficiency levels are differently impacted by the type of technology adopted and the services offered” (Rodrigues et al., 2018). The specialization of the offerings that are necessary to meet manufacturer needs place the 3PL at a disadvantage because they are unable to standardize their service to decrease costs. This results in the 3PL not being able to offer efficient solutions to manufacturers. Rodrigues suggested specializing at a regional level to target efficiencies and cost savings.

Discussion

Evaluating and choosing to utilize a 3PL can be difficult.  How does one compare services from various providers that may or may not be identical in offerings? In research by Hadlar et al., they suggest utilizing the followings steps, “first DEA is used to segregate the 3PL vendors as efficient and inefficient; second, TOPSIS is implemented to rank the efficient 3PL vendors; and, finally, LP lets us calculate the quantities to be allocated to each selected 3PL vendor” (Haldar et al., 2017). By utilizing the three different models, a manufacturer can compare 3PL providers and make an informed selection for a provider.

In an article by Augusto Bianchini, he also suggests applying multi-criteria decision-making methodology (MCDM) when evaluating 3PL providers. His reasoning for this is, “finding an appropriate match can be challenging since every organization is unique, and sometimes, even a single, seemingly insignificant business requirement can make a huge difference in a particular provider’s ability to perform effectively” (Bianchini, 2018). An example may be the connectivity or compatibility of IT systems between the manufacturer and the 3PL, which could increase significant costs to the manufacturer or decrease efficiencies. He also suggests laying out specific criteria that will be weighted and compared for results, and then analyzed for the selection process.

During a research study, Shou et al. evaluated “relational resources’ influence on firm performance through the mediating mechanism of innovation capability” (Shou et al., 2017). They uncovered that relational resources did have a positive affect on innovation, due to the interactions with their suppliers and their customers. 3PLs have a goal to standardize offerings which decreases innovation. When a manufacturer requests a customization, the 3PL can provide that innovation to other manufacturers as an ongoing service to decrease its costs.

Lastly, not only are manufacturers looking to improve their efficiencies with their 3PL providers, but 3PLs are striving for efficiency as well. In an article by Baruffaldi et al., they research how to improve order picking within an Italian 3PL. Baruffaldi and team suggested that, “ the framework is articulated into five phases, extending from a preliminary data collection and manipulation to the assessment and benchmarking of improvement scenarios” (Baruffaldi et al., 2020). Through data collection, they could review how many times a worker went to a location in the warehouse to pick up an item order.  After analyzing the workers’ movements, they could realign the way the orders were provided to the employee to decrease the movements taken and increase efficiencies of picking items.

Capstone: Ethics Training Presentation

Capstone: Ethics Training Presentation

For the critical assignment, you will take the role of a human services senior employee who must create a powerpoint presentation that could be presented to other employees at your workplace at an Ethics Training Seminar. In consultation with the Ethical Standards for Human Services Professionals, you will create a creative and engaging powerpoint presentation. Your presentation should include the following:

  1. Select 4 ethical topics that you believe are most relevant to the day-to-day operations for a human services professional and present those to your audience. Be sure to describe the ethical standard and give a thorough rationale for the purpose of the standard and why a human services employee is required to fulfill the standard. Remember to write about these standards as a senior employee communicating to new employees who need to learn this information in order to conduct themselves appropriately in their role.
  2. You must incorporate one brief written vignette (original work, written by you) of a workplace situation involving at least 2 ethical problems. The purpose of this vignette is to serve as a group discussion activity for the training seminar. Therefore, following introduction of the vignette you should have one or more slides that discuss the ethical problems highlighted in the vignette and the potential solutions or actions to take in resolving the hypothetical scenario.
  3. The presentation should conclude with at least 3 recommendations for the new employees about practical steps they can take or suggestions you have to help increase the likelihood of conducting themselves in an ethical manner. These recommendations can be related to one-time actions or ongoing practices that an employee could implement for the purpose of practicing ethically.
  4. On the final slide(s), please discuss how you might approach these topics similarly or differently if you were working in an explicitly Christian organization. Would there be any biblical references (stories, verses, parables) that you would integrate into the presentation that could help make a strong case for the value of Christian, ethical behavior?

The presentation should include at least 3 academic references (one reference can be your textbook). The presentation should be a minimum of 12 slides of text, plus the title slide and reference slide. The presentation should be creative and engaging, as you would want if you were actually leading the seminar. Please be sure to cite your sources on each slide throughout the presentation for any content that you borrow from journal articles or books.
