week 3 database

  week 3 project

The case study retail store has provided a list of reports and data manipulation tasks that are needed in the processing of orders for their customers. Answer the following:

  • What structured query language (SQL) statement scripts are needed to create the database schema for the relational database system and manipulate the data in the solution that you are proposing to the company?
  • How does each of these scripts specifically support the goals and objectives of the company?

Examples are provided here to help with this assignment.

As indicated in Unit 1, it is assumed that Microsoft SQL Server Express Edition (with management tools) was chosen as the database platform. It can be downloaded for free at this Web site.

The project deliverables are as follows:

  • Data Manipulation Tasks
    • Insert 20 records into each table for testing purposes.
    • Delete an entire order by using the unique identifier for that order.
    • Update the price of a product by using the unique identifier for that product.
    • Add a minimum of 3 of your own data manipulation language (DML) scripts based on the needs and specifications of your retail store.
  • Report List
    • Total revenue (sales) per month, grouped by customer
    • Total revenue (sales) per month, grouped by product
    • Total count of products, grouped by category
    • Add minimum of 3 of your own report scripts based on the needs and specifications of your retail store (one must be a CROSSTAB)
  • SQL (4–5 pages)
    • Include the database definition language (DDL) scripts to CREATE to database schema as described in the entity–relationship (E–R) diagram (Unit 2).
    • Include the database manipulation scripts (DML) that will be used to INSERT, DELETE, and UPDATE data in the proposed database system.
    • Include the SELECT, CROSSTAB, and AGGREGATE FUNCTION statements that will be used to read data from the proposed database system.
    • Provide your analysis as to how this part of the project fulfills the mission and 1 or more goals of the case study organization.
    • Provide the following attachments (in addition to embedding in document):
      • DDL.sql (including CREATE and INSERT statements so that they execute in the correct order [top-down])
      • DML.sql (including DELETE and UPDATE statements so that they can be executed in any order as selected)
      • REPORT.sql (including SELECT, CROSSTAB, AGGREGATE FUNCTION statements so that they can be executed in any order as selected)
    • Note: You will embed each script in the Word document and also provide it as an attachment.
  • All sources should be cited both in-text and in References using APA format.

Primary Task Response: Within the Discussion Board area, write 400–600 words that respond to the following questions (listed below) with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas:

Before you start this assignment, please read the story entitled Joe’s Sporting Goods Reporting. This can be found in the Relational Database Languages MUSE. This can also be found in your text materials for Week 3.

This is a direct link to Joe’s Sporting Goods Reporting.

After reviewing the story, conduct research online into the various possibilities for analyzing and approaching the system documentation problems presented and propose possible solutions. Address the following:

  • Discuss the specific recommendations that you would make based on your personal experience and research.
  • Discuss the impact (from the perspective of various stakeholders) of the lack of documentation.
  • How can technology be used as an enabler and facilitator of effective documentation procedures and processes?
  • Provide specific examples of how you would solve the documentation problems, and provide a rationale for your suggestions.
  • How can you apply the lessons that you learned from the story to your own retail store problem?
  • Provide feedback on the recommendations that your classmates made.

Mr. M, a 42-year-old thin male with a history of schizophrenia, is brought to the emergency room from an assisted living facility because of worsening delusions along with hypertension. Staff at the assisted living home reported that he has been increasingly agitated and physically aggressive at times. His delusions consist of creatures from outer space who are trying to kill him. He appears to be experiencing visual hallucinations and states that he sees creatures in the corner of the room telling him to hide. He recently has withdrawn from others and has difficulty initiating activities of daily living (ADLs) such as washing his face and combing his hair. His affect is flat. Later, Mr. M is admitted to the Psychiatric Unit and is prescribed Haldol which is a first-generation antipsychotic. However, after a few days, Mr. M has some muscle stiffness and it is also determined that newer 2nd generation antipsychotic medication would be more helpful to address both positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia. Seroquel 100mg is ordered daily and the Haldol stopped. Soon, Mr. M is responding well to the medication with a decrease in hallucinations and agitation. He is being discharged back to the assisted living facility.

  1. Identify the positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia in the above case by highlighting the positive symptoms and underlining the negative symptoms
  2. Describe the nursing care plan for this patient using the nursing process; include aspects of the mental status exam in your plan
  3. State a therapeutic communication skill you could use with this patient and give an example of a question you would ask
  4. State 2 side effects other than muscle stiffness that could occur with Haldol
  5. List 2 side effects that can occur with Seroquel, a 2nd generation anti-psychotic
  6. Discuss 2 areas of education to teach the assisted living staff and provide rationale

 COLLAPSE

I chose to analyze Wade Winston Wilson, also known as Deadpool.  This interesting person has n array of personality qualities that are expressed in his behaviors that are amplified by cultural impacts and events that have occurred as crucial points in his life.  The military culture impacted Mr. Wilson’s ability to remove emotion from stressful situations and shut out negative thoughts so a mission can be accomplished.  This was prior to his depart from the services; since his departure Mr. Wilson fell in love but subsequently was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.  Fearing the emotional toll it would take on his fiancé, Mr. Wilson leaves without notice.  He was approached about a cure for his cancer and enticed with the ability to go back to his love, but this process resulted in biological changes and disfigurement that angered Mr. Wilson, now known as Deadpool. (Lovece, 2016) Using humor and disregard for his own life he sought the person that caused his changes for revenge and a possible cure.  Deep down and through his outward thought process, it is clear that Deadpool still has strong morals and emotional awareness that are the motivations behind his actions.

To best understand the personality development of Deadpool over time, the most appropriate theory is a Neo-Psychoanalytic theory by Carl Jung.  Within his theory, Jung focuses on evolution of personality over time, people seek identity and sense of meaning, and that the unconscious mind stays in tune with repressed memories and experiences.  (Cervone & Pervin, 2019) Mr. Wilson served in Special Forces in the military in which he learned to suppress emotion during stressful situations; this proves vital in his future endeavors. When presented with stressful and high tempo combat environments, emotional factors of the personality mature and self-awareness and control over emotions develop.

In this process, Jung addresses the battle with opposing forces within the brain, if an individual stresses one persona more than another, they can lose a sense of self. (Cervone & Pervin, 2019)  As Mr. Wilson becomes Deadpool, he struggles with who he has always been, and this new identity.  The need to balance this opposition is what allows Deadpool to maintain his emotional qualities.  The evolution of change within his biological self, and his external appearances, Deadpool seeks to find meaning for life.  He cannot die because biological changes within his body allow for self-healing, so he must find meaning to adapt to his new life.  Carl Jung annotates that finding meaning and identity assist in forward progression of personality vice only relying on experiences. (Cervone & Pervin, 2019) Deadpool suffers from hideous deformational burns that cover his entire body, when he goes out he wears a full body suit. CFrom the devastation caused by this deformity, Deadpool seeks to find the person that caused this, which becomes his meaning of life and motivation for forward progress.

Although Deadpool suffers with his new body and new life, he maintains his emotional awareness; this is a part of his personality that he seems to hold onto.  His love for his fiancé fuels his desire to find a cure, and motivates his efforts towards tracking down the individual responsible.  Some of the thoughts that usually run through individual’s minds as they decide how to act or approach a situation are clear and evident through his ability, through portrayal in media, to communicate thoughts directly to the audience. (Lovece, 2016)  The equivalent of this is having conversations in the mind to problem solve, analyze, or develop rationale in a situation.  This quality is what helps outsiders understand his rationale and mindset in his decision-making. Deadpool’s personality evolved over time due to events that affected his life direction.  He adapted to situations and altered his approach to his environment by finding new meaning within his current role.

You may have been familiar with Japanese ukiyo-e paintings and prints of the Edo period (1615-1868) from one of this week’s chapters. Let’s use this assignment to explore these works a bit more.

This is a two part post so please read the directions carefully. Both parts are due by Sunday night with late work accepted for one week after the due date.

PART 1
  1. Choose and embed two examples of ukiyo-e prints to talk about. One will be traditional (not contemporary) and from one of the collections listed below AND one will be a contemporary twist (try searching for ukiyo-e and pop culture/pop art/21st century or ‘ukiyo-e inspired’). These won’t be the same work and your contemporary example can be any in the style of ukiyo-e. I’ve included an example below.
  • No need to comment this week but feel free to if you’d like!
  • No need to write any text about the two works here, you’ll do that in part 2, but remember to:
    • Embed your images.
    • Include its info below the image. This info includes: name of the artist (if known), title, date, and medium.
    • You’ll need to post first to see other’s posts in your group.
PART 2

Here’s a contemporary example:

Signature Assignment- 700 words

Promoting international trade is not a zero-sum game. It is a win-win proposition; both parties gain from trade.

Consider the following:

  • Tariffs are paid by the citizens of the country imposing tariffs, not by the citizens of the country producing the products upon which the tariffs are levied.
  • The term “trade deficits” is a misnomer. Every country’s trade is always in balance.
  • Trade deficits do not mean the US no longer produces anything to export. The US is the world’s second largest manufacturer and the world’s second largest exporter of manufactured goods.
  • Trade deficits reflect a strong economy. Trade deficits rise during economic expansions and fall during economic contractions. Unemployment falls as trade deficits rise and rises as trade deficits fall.
  • Imports and exports are complements, not competitors. Both are necessary and both contribute to economic growth.
  • Roughly one-third of all US imports and exports is trade between US multinational companies and their overseas subsidiaries.
  • Foreign-owned companies operating in the US number in the thousands and provide directly or indirectly jobs for more than 13 million US workers (roughly, 10% of the US workforce).
  • US trade deficit in goods in 2018 (as a % of GDP) was the same as it was 5, 10 and 15 years earlier.
  • The rise in US goods trade deficit with China has not increased the US total goods trade deficit. It has been offset by reduced goods imports from other trading partners.
  • There is a strong correlation between the rise in world trade and:
  • The rise in world GDP
  • The dramatic fall in the world’s extreme poverty rate
  • The rise in world life expectancy
  • For every US manufacturing job lost to trade between 2000 and 2010, seven US jobs were lost to domestic productivity improvements. Those seven jobs cannot be brought back from overseas because they never left the US.

Write a 700- to 1,050-word evaluation of credible economists’ unbiased opinions on the benefits, costs, and results of current US trade and tariff policies. Complete the following in your evaluation:

  • Evaluate how US trade policy changes in the last 2 years affect global trade activities by multinational corporations.
  • Discuss credible economists’ opinions on the long-term effects of trade and tariff policies changes in the last 2 years.
  • Explain the effect of recent changes to trade and tariff policies have had on your employer, you, or someone you know.

Cite at least 2 academically credible sources.

Format your assignment according to APA guidelines.

MG401 Discussion Post 5

Initech versus the Coffee Bean

Consider Peter Gibbons, an employee of the fictional Initech Corporation from the movie Office Space. Peter has been asked to meet with efficiency experts (Bob and Bob) to discuss his work environment. One of the Bobs is curious about Peter’s tendency toward under performance and confronts him about his lack of attention to office policies and procedures. It seems Peter has been turning in his TPS reports late and without the company- mandated cover sheet:

Peter: You see, Bob, it’s not that I’m lazy, it’s that I just don’t care.

Bob: Don’t? Don’t care?

Peter: It’s a problem of motivation, all right? Now if I work my butt off and Initech ships a few extra units, I don’t see another dime, so where’s the motivation? And here’s another thing, I have eight different bosses right now.

Bob: Eight?

Peter: Eight, Bob. So that means when I make a mistake, I have eight different people coming by to tell me about it. That’s my only real motivation, not to be hassled, that and the fear of losing my job. But you know, Bob, that will only make someone work just hard enough not to get fired.

The environment at Initech is an all too familiar one to many office workers. It is an environment in which success is directly proportional to how busy you look, where questioning authority is taboo, and where meticulous attention to paperwork is the only way to get promoted.

Contrast Initech to The Coffee Bean—a chain of gourmet coffee shops. In an effort to boost employee morale and increase productivity, the management team at The Coffee Bean decided to pursue the FISH philosophy. FISH is a management training program that stresses fun in the work- place. It espouses four principles:

Play—“Work that is made fun gets done.”

Make Their Day—“When you make someone’s day through a small act of kindness or unforgettable engagement, you can turn even routine encounters into special memories.”

Be There—“Being there is a great way to practice wholeheartedness and fight burnout.”

Choose Your Attitude—“When you learn you have the power to choose your response to what life brings, you can look for the best and find opportunities you never imagined possible.”

Stores in The Coffee Bean chain were encouraged to use these principles to make the stores a fun place for employees and customers. The stores have created theme days where employees dress up for themes (NFL day, basketball day, pajama day)—and then give discounts to customers who dress the same. There are also trivia games in which customers who can answer trivia questions get discounts on their coffee purchases. Nancy Feilen, a Coffee Bean store manager, explains, “We tried to come up with something that would help strike up a conversation with guests and engage fun in the stores for team members and guests.” In other stores, customers play Coffee Craps. If a customer rolls a 7 or an 11, he gets a free drink. Some stores have used Fear Factor Fridays: if the store sells a certain number of drinks, one of the baristas will agree to some act—in one case a barista ate a cricket.

The results? One store increased the average check by 12 percent in six months; turnover has decreased significantly—general managers typically left after 22 months with the chain but now stay an average of 31 months; and the turnover rate for hourly employees dropped to 69 per- cent from more than 200 percent over a three-year period.

So where would you rather work?

This Unit’s Questions

  1. How would you gauge Peter’s achievement orientation? What are some of the needs not being met for Peter Gibbons at Initech? What changes might improve Peter’s motivation?
  2. Would you judge the leaders at Initech as more likely to invoke the Pygmalion or the Golem effect? What about the environment at The Coffee Bean—Pygmalion or Golem effect?
  3. Why has The Coffee Bean seen such a significant reduction in its turn- over?

Database Design & Management Project using MySQL

MySQL

MySQL is a database management system that allows you to manage relational databases. It is open source software backed by Oracle. It means you can use MySQL without paying a dime. Also, if you want, you can change its source code to suit your needs.

Even though MySQL is open source software, you can buy a commercial license version from Oracle to get premium support services.

MySQL is pretty easy to master in comparison with other database software like Oracle Database, or Microsoft SQL Server.

MySQL can run on various platforms UNIX, Linux, Windows, etc. You can install it on a server or even in a desktop. Besides, MySQL is reliable, scalable, and fast.

ABOUT THE MySQL FINAL

Use screen captures to document each step of the project.

1.  Describe the requirements for a database that will support a small online business. Makeup a small business scenario or use a real-life scenario familiar to you.  In this section you should also try to formulate the queries that you that you want to write for the database.

2.  Design the conceptual database behind the described requirements. This is the ER Diagram for the small database.

3.  Convert the conceptual design to a physical design. This is translating the ER Diagram into the relational schema and metadata describing the tables, attributes and relationships.

4.  Implement the Physical Database from the physical design. This is transposing the relational schema and metadata into the a series of CREATE TABLE statements with the appropriate CONSTRAINT modifiers.

Here are some helpful hints to get started with your design

You need to describe at least the following aspects of the Database:

1.  What products and/or services will the database hold, the categories of products/services, approximate number of product titles in each category, what (approximately) is the product information that the customers will be able to access

2.  What information is need from the database

1.  Create the ER diagram from the information gathered in parts 1

2.  Write out the schema and metadata of the database, including: a.  All the database tables.

The Metadata

For each table column please specify: the name and the type of the column, whether the value can be null or not, and whether the values are required to be unique.

For each table please specify which column (or columns) forms its primary key.

In the ER Diagram, show all relations between columns, specify the type of the relations (one-‐to-‐one or one-‐to-‐many), and what is the foreign key by which the tables are related.  You can do this in the diagram by placing an FK suffix at the end of the attribute that is a foreign key.

A few things to keep in mind when creating and finalizing the design

1.  Don’t try to be, too ambitious in planning your database.  As much as you would want to have a lot of features in your database, you have to keep in mind that they will be implemented later in the project! So please try to create a minimum design that will be easy to implement and test.

You may need to reduce the scope of the project to get a working version completed.  In IT, if you cannot deliver a list of features within a given schedule, you have two choices. You can either reduce the features in order to deliver on time, or you can extend the time of the project. We are at the end of the semester, so we cannot extend the time, we can only reduce the activity in the project. In a Database Project, reducing the scope means removing tables, data, and queries from the project.

1.  Create the database Container

2.  Create Entity Tables

3.  Create Relationship Tables

4.  Insert Test Data

Designing the ER Diagram, creating the Relational Schema, creating the Metadata and inserting the Test Data is part of the group assignment. Once the database structure is created and the test data has been inserted, the projects turns into individual assignments.  Individually the group members of a group are to write queries to test separate segments of the database

Project Overview

As you create a Database to support sometime of business activities, create the ER

Diagram, Relational Schema, Metadata and Test Data for the Database you have chosen.  Create the physical database in MySQL using the appropriate Create Database and Create Table DDL statements to create the database container and create the tables for the database.  Finally, insert the initial test data representing a current state of the test organization.

Perform the following types of queries using tables of the segment of the database that you are testing in your database project. Practice Union, Intersection and Difference operations on one entity table in the database. For this part of the assignment, choose a single table from the entity tables of your database project to work with.  Merge two databases, a number of tests have to be performed on similar data sets from both databases.  Create a duplicate table to mirror the entity table you are testing. Insert a few rows from the test data of your entity table into the duplicate table mirroring it. You should then insert one or two unique rows into the duplicate table mirroring your entity table. Once you get this type of environment setup in your database for this assignment, you will be able to perform varying relational algebra operations. You will be able to perform an intersection finding common records in both tables. You will be able to perform a difference operation from both directions. You will be able to perform a Union combining both tables into one result set. That is exactly what you are to do:

Write a query that performs an intersection on you main table and your duplicate mirroring table

Write a query that performs an Difference on you main table and your duplicate mirroring table

Write a query that performs an Union on you main table and your duplicate mirroring table

For the union, difference and intersect query, the other database table is a table structure made from the table that you have chosen to work with in your project.  It represents the data from another company merging with the data in your company.

You are to write a query using your table and a table that it has a relationship with

Remember a relationship is established when two table share a common attribute. One is the primary key table the other is the foreign key table.  For the multi-‐table select query, use the entity table as the one side of a 1-‐M relationship.  Use one of the relationship tables created earlier as the many side of a 1-‐M relationship.

Create a query that will alter the structure of your entity table:

Normally when integrating systems, there are a few data type compatibility issues and data alignment issues that need resolution.  To prepare for handling such problems, create an Alter Table command to demonstrate that you can handle these types of situations should they arise

Write a query that will update a row in your entity table

To demonstrate that you have an understanding of update queries, create an update process to update one or more existing records in your chosen table.  This could be accomplished by populating the new attributes added to the table. The final project

submission MUST inclue the following documents:

1.  Copy of the ER Diagram and Schema that was used to develop the table

2.  The Metadata for the database

3.  The SQL script file to create the database, tables and insert the data

4.  The SQL script file containing your individual queries

CASE STUDY: Active Labor: Susan Wong Mrs. Wong, a first-time mother, is admitted to the birthing suite in early labor after spontaneous rupture of membranes at home. She is at 38 weeks of gestation with a history of abnormal alpha-fetoprotein levels at 16 weeks of pregnancy. She was scheduled for ultrasonography to visualize the fetus to rule out an open spinal defect or Down syndrome, but never followed through. Mrs. Wong and her husband disagreed about what to do (keep or terminate the pregnancy) if the ultrasonography indicated a spinal problem, so they felt they did not want this information.

 Reflective Questions

 1. As the nurse, what priority data would you collect from this couple to help define relevant interventions to meet their needs?

 2. How can you help this couple if they experience a negative outcome in the birthing suite? What are your personal views on terminating or continuing a pregnancy with a risk of a potential anomaly? What factors may influence your views?

 3. With the influence of the recent Human Genome Project and the possibility of predicting open spinal defects earlier in pregnancy, how will maternity care change in the future?
