1. Using the case study below, prepare a 2 – 3-page paper.

   A 21-year old female (A.M.) presents to the urgent care clinic with symptoms of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and a fever for 3 days. She states that she has Type I diabetes and has not been managing her blood sugars since she’s been ill and unable to keep any food down. She’s only tolerated sips of water and juices. Since she’s also been unable to eat, she hasn’t taken any insulin as directed. While helping A.M. from the lobby to the examining room you note that she’s unsteady, her skin is warm and flushed, and that she’s drowsy. You also note that she’s breathing rapidly and smell a slight sweet/fruity odor. A.M. has a challenge answering questions but keeps asking for water to drink.

   You get more information from A.M. and learn the following:

   • She had some readings on her glucometer which were reading ‘high’
   • She vomits almost every time she takes in fluid
   • She hasn’t voided for a day but voided a great deal the day before
   • She’s been sleeping long hours and finally woke up this morning and decided to seek care

Current labs and vital signs:

1. What is the disorder and its pathophysiology that you expect the health care provider to diagnose and treat?
2. Describe the etiology of the disorder A.M is experiencing.
3. Identify and describe the clinical manifestations of the disorder A.M. is experiencing.
4. Identify and describe the expected treatment options for A.M. based on the disorder and clinical manifestations.

Summarize the questions above and formulate what may be happening with A.M. and how you would improve her condition.

1. Purpose of Assignment
   The goal of creating a newborn nutrition teaching presentation is to prepare the nursing student to provide evidenced based education to the pre and postpartum client on lactation.
   Competency
   Select safe, effective nursing interventions for the postpartum client and newborn.
   Instructions
   Create a teaching tool to promote breastfeeding. The material created to educate new mothers on breastfeeding will influence the mother’s decision to breastfeed, including duration, based on the quality and content of the teaching.
   Assignment Requirements
   Your teaching tool will be a trifold and must include this relevant content for a mother considering the risks and benefits of breastfeeding a newborn.

Assignment Overview

For this research-based paper, you will be required to develop a specific thesis and organize a sustained argument around it.  Source material to be used for this paper can be found partly by using library databases and at least one of your sources must be a peer-reviewed academic article.

You must focus your paper on the topic of “local communities” and identify one problem that your community might face. Some examples are crime, violence, poverty, homelessness, immigration, housing, and flooding that people in Houston and or its surrounding areas face.

Assignment Outcomes

• Identify and explain a specific and compelling issue within the parameters of the rhetorical situation outlined on the assignment prompt.
• Organized a sustained argument that is sensitive to a particular rhetorical situation.
• Use library databases to find appropriate source material.
• Distinguish between academic and non-academic sources and use different types of sources in appropriate ways.
• Integrate source references, including direct quotations, using signal phrases (attributive tags) and parenthetical in-text citations (MLA format).

Requirements

Source Usage: Three sources, at least one academic.  The paper must demonstrate effective summary, paraphrase, and quotation using signal phrases and parenthetical citations for attribution.  The paper must include a properly formatted works cited page with at least three full bibliographical citations.

Overview:

Now that you have submitted your article review, you will submit Your Final Project Data Analysis. The Final Project Article Review was an opportunity to demonstrate your ability to interpret statistics included in an article. The Final Project Data Analysis is a chance to show that you know how to choose the correct statistics to analyze a set of data and calculate these using software. Regardless of their field of interest, health professionals across disciplines need to be able to run basic biostatistical calculations to describe a set of data. The Final Project Data Analysis reinforces these critical skills by asking you to conduct your own analysis of a small data set, explain the basic parameters of the data, graph it, and run simple tests. You will present this data analysis in a brief statistical report, using language appropriate to a non-technical audience. The Final Project Data Analysis consists of four milestones, submitted in Modules Two, Three, Five, and Seven. The final submission occurs in Module Nine.

Prompt: 

Biostatisticians are constantly called upon to analyze data in order to help researchers and health officials answer critical questions about populations’ health. For this assessment, you will imagine you are a biostatistical consultant on a small study for a local health organization. In the Assignments Guidelines and Rubrics area of the course, you will use the Data Analysis Data Set and Data Analysis Data Description, along with some background information on how and when the data was collected and the general research question the organization is interested in answering. This is often the way you will receive data in the real world. Your task is to help the organization answer their question by critically analyzing the data. You will compute your chosen statistics, interpret the results, and present the results and recommendations to non-technical decision makers in the form of a data analysis. Keep in mind that it is your job to do this from a statistical standpoint. Be sure to justify your conclusions and recommendations with appropriate statistical support.

Milestones 

Milestone One: Select Health Question In Module Two, you will identify the health question you will be researching for instructor feedback and approval. Milestone One should be several sentences in length. This milestone is graded with the Milestone One Rubric. 

Milestone Two: Describe the Data In Module Three, you will describe the key features of the data set, including limitations that might exist. Milestone Two should be one or two paragraphs in length. This milestone is graded with the Milestone Two Rubric. 

Milestone Three: Process and Calculations In Module Five, you will create a table in which you propose the calculations (descriptive statistics and statistical test) and graph(s) you will need to perform to answer the health question you are investigating. Then you will complete the table. For Milestone Three, you will submit this completed table. This milestone is graded with the Milestone Three Rubric. 

Milestone Four: Data Analysis In Module Seven, you will submit the data analysis section of Final Project Data Analysis. This section includes the graph(s) and statistics you conducted on the data set to answer the health question. This milestone is graded with the Milestone Four Rubric. 

Final Project Data Analysis In Module Nine, complete the conclusions section and the rest of the completed data analysis (including graph(s), statistical output for chosen test, or Excel spreadsheet with calculations). You have been working on this analysis in Milestones One through Four. Before submitting, revise each section of the analysis based on the feedback you received from your instructor and peers. It should be a complete, polished artifact containing all of the critical elements of the final product. It should reflect the incorporation of feedback gained throughout the course. This submission will be graded using the Final Project Data Analysis Rubric.

Initial Post Instructions
Rather than living in chaos, danger, and the hostility of our neighbors, we find ways to live together. It isn’t easy, but can we avoid doing so?

If everybody has self-interest in their own welfare and safety, then everybody also has self-interest in the welfare and safety of others. Self-interest involves community interest, and we must think about what we are willing to give up in order to get that safety and stability for ourselves, our families, our community, our nation, and even the world.

Thomas Hobbes and John Locke are just two examples of social contract moralists. Locke’s philosophy helped Thomas Jefferson formulate the United States Declaration of Independence. We are interested in what it means to live together in an orderly way under a social contract.

Initial Post Instructions
For the initial post, address one of the following sets of questions:

What is a time when you or someone you know of experienced a conflict between duty to self and loyalty to the community? What would logical reasoning say should be done in that case? Why that? What would an Ethical Egoist say to do? Why would they say to do that? Note what you feel is the best course of action.
What is a time when you or someone you know experienced a clash between professional duties and familial duties? Reference a professional code such as that of the American Nurses Association or American Bar Association in explaining the clash. What moral values should have been used in that case? Why those values? What would social contract ethics have said to have done? Why would social contract ethics say that? Note what you feel is the best course of action.
Articulate and evaluate a time when you or someone you know saw personal obligations collide with national obligations. How did that tension involve differing positions on a moral debate? Did those positions rely on any key moral theories? If so, how so? If not, why not? Note what you feel is the best course of action.
