Discussion Humn 6150

Policy advocacy is one of the key roles of human services professionals. It differs from advocating for clients in that it looks to inform those who are responsible for policy formation, such as politicians and leaders of large-scale organizations. Whether at a national, regional, or state level, policy advocacy efforts will have broad implications for how and when human services are delivered. In today’s world of diminished resources, policy advocacy can be the difference between being funded and not having the funds needed to help your clients. By engaging in opportunities with programs and organizations that receive federal or state funding, you may further support your advocacy effects and gain greater access to necessary resources. By watching the media presentation in the Weekly Resources you will get a feeling about how community organizations can engage in advocacy.

Chahana Fisher has applied for a part-time position in this Community Center in the role of advocacy support person. In this role she is going to identify the needs for advocacy for the populations served by the Center and draft information that will be used in advocacy for the Community Center. For this Discussion, review Chapter 7, “Visit The New Harbor Community” in the Weekly Resources. Then explore the Community Center in the Weekly Resources and read the description of the Community Center and the people who work there currently.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post a brief description of what you see as possible advocacy needs for this Community Center. Examples may be the needs for youth programming, immigrant language skills support, or recreational facilities for latchkey children after school. Explain how this Community Center could be involved in policy advocacy. Then, from the perspective of the community center and one organization from your area of interest, explain one benefit and one limitation of engaging in policy advocacy. Be specific and provide examples.

Employer and Employee Roles

As referenced in the cases and articles assigned this week, the definition of the employer-employee relationship is subject to interpretation. Moreover, the way employers and employees interact in the workplace initiates productivity, conflict, and controversy.

How can HRM professionals help define roles and responsibilities associated with the employer-employee relationship to enable a productive workplace? Use real-life examples, if at all possible.

Cases

It is recommended that you identify the main argument and decision of all of these cases by reading the abstract for each case. Then select one case to analyze using the IRAC method.

Definition of Employee

These articles are less than two pages each and illustrate different scenarios that are used to determine the definition of who is an employee.

revise the paper ( do not write a new paper). Using the below notes. due 5 hours.

 introduction shorter. Second develop
the two replies. Third develop the theoretical observation further. Fourth
put in a “significance” section relating the point to a concrete case in
the world today.

For the purposes of our class the response paper is 5 pages.

What you need to do in order to fulfill this assignment is:

Create a summary sheet on the fictive piece that includes: characters, plot, themes, and

evaluation (for an example see: michaelboylan.net, blog, book reviews)—this will help

you start your paper; it is not a part of your paper.

Isolate a single passage in the book that you feel is pivotal to the theme of the book (this

passage can be consecutive, for example pages 10-22, or it can be constructed on a

common theme, for example pages 135-137 & 192-195 & 238-240.

Briefly go through the scene highlighting character, plot, and tropes (metaphors, motifs,

description, etc.)

Try to discern a particular point of view within the passage that mirrors the book

Decide whether you agree or disagree with this point of view

Set out the relevant practical and theoretical philosophical principles at stake and apply

them to the problem.

Use 3 philosophical principles to help you create a positive or negative reaction to the

author’s theme (in the small and the large realm).  If it is positive, think of bringing up

objectors and refute them.  If it is negative, engage in a dialog with the author—ending

up by rejecting position.  The theme should be readily understandable from the scene you

have chosen.

Reflect on the significance of your position.  What abstract general points about the

world have now been elucidated?  * most important point. At least a page.

Rubric.  If you represent all eight points sequentially in your paper you will earn some kind of

“B” grade (so long as you are also close to 5 pages, i.e., within a half-page under or a full page

over).  To get a high “B” or an “A-“ or “A” grade you will have to do well on the reflection

bullet.

There are various cultural groups and sub-groups in the United States that should be taken into consideration when interacting with a patient. According to Collins (2015) values, beliefs, and traditions of the specific cultures must be thoroughly evaluated through a cultural assessment in order to provide the best care possible for a patient. Three of the cultural groups in particular are: African Americans, American Indians, and Hispanics. The cultural variation in these groups becomes obvious when looking at educational, and economic factors, as well as illnesses that are more prevalent in certain groups (Jensen, 2015). African Americans have high poverty and unemployment rates, many are uninsured, and they also tend to have low immunization rates (Jensen, 2015). They are more likely to develop certain types of cancer, diabetes, and high blood pressure, whereas, many American Indians tend to be obese and suffer from diabetes, and high blood pressure. Hispanics, on the other hand, are the biggest minority group, and are more likely to have diabetes, end-stage renal disease, or cancer. The older Hispanic generation tends to decline the flu shot, and they are more likely to have heart disease. Overall, the three groups share some common advantages, but there can also be disease which they are all more likely to get,

The Future of HRM

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read Chapter 10 from the course text and the report Future Insights: Top Trends Affecting the Workplace and the HR Profession According to SHRM Special Expertise Panels (Links to an external site.) and the articles The 2018 Human Resources Trends to Keep on Your Radar (Links to an external site.) and Protected Classes in Employment Discrimination (Links to an external site.). Emerging trends have defined and affected the future of HRM in terms of competencies, demographics, and practices. Some of the emerging trends in HRM include globalization, generational diversity, skills gap, sustainability, technology, social media, big data, and legislation.

Select one of the emerging trends above and discuss the effect on

  • managers and HR professionals (functions and practices),
  • talent acquisition (recruiting, developing, and retaining employees), and
  • performance management (training and development).

Your initial post must be a minimum of 300 words. Cite at least one scholarly source to support your response.

Guided Response: Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts by Day 7. Respond to at least one peer that selected an emerging trend different from yours. In your response, discuss additional impact the trend has on one of the bulleted items.

Ford Case Analysis

Refer to the following guidelines to complete the case. Complete and submit the case individually. This is not a team assignment.

MANA 4322

Individual Case Assignment

Case: Ford: An Auto Company in Transition

(page C277 in the Textbook)

Purpose

The individual written case analysis exercise is meant to assess:

1. Your critical thinking

2. Your understanding of businesses as interdisciplinary units

3. Your problem solving and decisional abilities, and

4. Your effective communication and writing skills

5. Your core business knowledge

To this end, students will be required to individually analyze a case and submit a written report for evaluation by the due date indicated in the syllabus.

Assignment

You have been hired as a consultant to help Ford Motor Company return to its glory days, when either Henry Ford or Alan Mulally ran the company. In doing so, you must produce a short report to Jim Hackett, Ford’s CEO, that conveys your observations of Ford’s current situation (situational analysis), and a proposal of strategic actions Ford should take to be the model automotive company of the 21st century. Thus, your task is to answer the following questions based solely on the information provided in the case:

1.Perform an analysis of Ford’s external and internal environments. As you do this, please make sure you organize your response by classifying external trends as opportunities and threats, and by classifying Ford’s internal environment as strengths and weaknesses. Because of the length of the report, select the most salient issues in your eyes. In addition, you must include at least three functional areas/value chain activities in your analysis of Ford’s internal environment (e.g., operations, marketing, and finance), and you must include issues regarding Ford’s financial situation.

2.Based on the external challenges (threats), positive external trends (opportunities), Ford’s limitations (weaknesses), and Ford’s strong suits (strengths) identified in point #1, provide 4 strategic suggestions for Ford’s executives to implement. In other words, combine opportunities/threats you identified, with Ford’s strengths/weaknesses in order to make suggestions on what decisions CEO Hackett needs to make. In your response, make sure you include both strategic actions related to business level strategy (how to compete) and corporate -level strategy (where to compete). Provide strong rationale for your choices.

Expectations

The analysis of the case should reflect both your understanding of the material covered in the text as well as other insights you have gained from other functional area courses. You are encouraged to approach the case with an integrated multi-functional perspective of the organization and to explicate recommendations clearly and concisely in writing. There are multiple possible answers to the questions provided. Use the critical thinking and problem solving skills you have developed through your university career.

Individual case analysis write-ups should be well thought out and not trivial. Answers should stick to the facts in the case and analysis. Provide strong reasoning and evidence from the case.

All individual case analysis reports are due through the Assignments tab on Canvas. All case reports will be put through Unicheck, a plagiarism tool. The expectation is that you submit your own work. Any plagiarism will be punished to the greatest extent. If your analysis is found to be a copy of someone else’s work, you will earn a ZERO in your individual case analysis grade and you will be sent to the Office of Student Conduct.

Format

The case analysis report should be prepared using single-spacing (NOT double-spacing), Times New Roman 12-point font, and a 1-inch all-around margin. The case analysis report should be 3 to 4 pages in length.

NOTE : Aim for 3 pages. This is roughly 1,000 – 1,200 words, so aim for this target.

Please provide a cover page (not counted in the 3 pages) with your name, the title of the case, the name of the course, the course section, and the date.

Any direct quotes from the case should appear in quotes and the page number should appear in parentheses.

NOTE: I have uploaded the rubric as an attachment please see and do it by following the guidelines. Thank you.

Discussion and response

DISCUSSION: (1 TO 2 PARAGRAPHS)

Creating ethical and effective information security policies can be a very challenging and time-consuming task in organizations.

  • Describe three reasons why organizations might not prioritize ethical concerns when creating policies. Choose the factor that you believe is most challenging for an organization to overcome and provide your rationale.
  • Determine what you believe are best practices for establishing an ethical and effective policy development process. Explain why you have taken this position.

RESPONSE: (1 PARAGRAPH)

Many companies have policies and procedures for employees to abide by, as they are part of the company handbook. Some of the policies they have are Code of Conduct or Code of Ethics that some organizations have employees sign as part of their employment. When implementing these policies, there could be some challenges when implementing an effective ethics policy. Some challenges could be resistance for employees, the cost or the payment related to training, and the capacity to regulate the ROI (return on investment) of the ethics policy(1).  Choosing which factor is the most challenging for an organization is the resistance from employees. Some employees are unwilling to adapt to change or may feel the information for implementing the change is not being communicated clearly or not at all. So, therefore, communication is the key.

The best way to establish an ethical and practical policy process is for the organization to implement proper training and reinforcement. Also, everyone would be held accountable because when the policies and procedures are no way carried out correctly, this can be a cause for disciplinary actions.

The initiative I chose is the World Health Organization’s Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) program (WHO, n.d.). This initiative works with the CDC, ministries of health, and other international agencies to combat inadequate access to clean water and proper sanitation and hygiene practices in economically challenged areas around the world (CDC, n.d.). This initiative has six focus areas aimed at the long-term goals of decreasing poverty and increasing good health around the world (CDC, n.d.). The six goals include: making water safe to drink and use, improving hygiene and sanitation, responding to complex international emergencies and outbreaks, controlling and eliminating disease, identifying and characterizing disease, educating and training about global water, sanitation and hygiene (CDC, n.d.).

Recently, the initiative worked to address the issue of Cholera in the country of Haiti. Cholera is an illness brought on by vibrio cholerea bacteria and it is transmitted through infected feces that makes contact with drinking water or food (CDC, n.d.). Symptoms include diarrhea and dehydration and can lead to death (CDC, n.d). Haiti not only has faced severe poverty and natural disasters, but the cholera outbreak has affected over 800,000 people and killed nearly 10,000 people. WASH combined the effort of WHO, USAID, CDC and UNICEF to bring relief to the area.

NUR504-REPLT YO NICOLE

WEEK 6

This week discussion involves a 68 -year-old Caucasian male who complained of burning when urinating.  He admits to the pain increasing with the more he urinates and it has been going on for the past 5 days.  His past medical history includes prostatic hyperplasia, high cholesterol and hypertension. The medications he is prescribes are Olmesartan 20mg and Crestor 20 mg. He has been diagnosed with nocturia and dysuria. The subjective data I would inquire is his diet. How much water does he consumes daily? Was there an odor present when urinating?  Due to your history of UTI’s, are you taking any probiotics as needed and were you prescribed with antibiotics, if so, how long? With his systolic Blood pressure in the 150’s, when is the last time you took the Olmesartan. Did the fever occur before or after the Burning started, and did you take any acetaminophen or Motrin to break it?

The Labs that I would order is a urine culture with sensitive, CBC, BMP and lipid panel. A kidney, ureter, and bladder (KUB) X-ray may be performed to assess the abdominal area for causes of abdominal pain, or to assess the organs and structures of the urinary and/or gastrointestinal (GI) system. A KUB X-ray may be the first diagnostic procedure used to assess the urinary system.

A few diagnoses that can relate to the symptoms will include Bladder infection. They are the most common type of urinary tract infection caused by bacteria and can lead to problems like pain in your lower belly and having to pee way more often than usual (Rhoads, 2021). Symptoms may include Pain in the bladder, groin, lower abdomen, or pelvis that can occur during urination or during sexual intercourse.  The body may experience fatigue, fever, or malaise. Chronic Kidney Disease is a condition in which the kidneys are damaged and cannot filter blood as well as they should. Because of this, excess fluid and waste from blood remain in the body and may cause other health problems, such as heart disease and stroke (CDC,2019) CKD can cause Anemia, increased infections, abnormal electrolytes, loss of appetite or depression.

A Kidney infection (pyelonephritis) is a type of urinary tract infection (UTI) that generally begins in your urethra or bladder and travels to one or both of your kidney. Symptoms observed in a kidney infection are Fever, Chills, Back, side (flank) or groin pain, Abdominal pain, Frequent urination, Strong, persistent urge to urinate and Burning sensation or pain when urinating.

Furthermore, patient teaching would include increasing intake of water and/or cranberry juice. Fluids can help remove bacteria from your body when you urinate. Kidney scarring can lead to chronic kidney disease, high blood pressure and kidney failure. When the infection remains in the blood, septicemia can occur.  Your kidneys filter waste from your blood and return your filtered blood to the rest of your body.  Urinate as soon as you need to. Avoid delaying urination when you feel the urge to urinate. It is important to empty the bladder after intercourse. Urinating as soon as possible after intercourse helps clear bacteria from the urethra, reducing your risk of infection (CDC, 2019).
