IT345: Impact of IT on Individuals, Organizations, and Society

Throughout this course we are going to critically assess the institutional forces that shape and create the demand for information technology. When responding to discussion boards, try to incorporate, when possible, your view as a student and your view as an employer. For example, how does social media impact you on a personal level and how would it impact your employer? They are both two very different answers.

Q1) Select one of the topics listed below and find a recent article that relates to this topic and post a summary of that article and express your views as well.

Listed Topics:

  • What is disruptive technology? Cite one example of a technology that has emerged in the last decade and what impact it has had. Who/what was affected?
  • What are some concerns that a typical cell phone user should have regarding privacy and how can they mitigate those concerns?
  • In your opinion, how was Facebook able to dethrone MySpace as the most popular social media site? What did Facebook offer that MySpace did not?
  • What technological improvement/invention has had the most impact on modern day business? Why?

Not more than 350 words total. Respond to at least two other students (150 words each peer)!!

2. Two (2) paragraphs (350 Words total) discussion response to main DQ questions. In addition, respond with two (2) students/Peers to Peer (identify peers) or two classmates. The responses should 150 words each and must focus on the discussion topic above. Examine related issues, ask questions, provide hypothesis and/or situation(s). A peer response may not be to a peer already responded to more than twice.

Note: plagiarism is not tolerated in this course. Everything must be in your own words with sources! Failure to do so will result in failing grade.

Determine System Requirements

CASE Questions

  1.  What do you think are the sources of the information Jim and his team collected? How do you think they collected all of that information?
  2. Examine PE Table 6-1. Are there any requirements or constraints that you can think of that were overlooked? List them. Create a list of functional and non-functional requirementsfor the case as part of a detailed requirements statement (see notes).
  3. If you were looking for alternative approaches for Petrie’s customer loyalty program, where would you look for information? Where would you start? How would you know when you were done?
  4. Using the web, find three customizable customer loyalty program systems being sold by vendors. Create a table like PE Table 6-2 that compares them.
  5. Why shouldn’t Petrie’s staff build their own unique system in-house?

HINTS: See the notes for unit 5 notes regarding functional and non-functional requirements. What is functional depends on user requirements. Non-functional requirements are all the technical, financial, security, control requirements that are essential for the system operation. Create a table with two columns (one for functional and the other for non-functional requirements) and then list all the functional and nonfunctional requirements under those two columns. You need to consider everything you did and read about the case so far and come up with functional and non-functional requirements for the new system.

Statistics

3. The accompanying table describes results from groups of 10 births from 10 different sets of parents. The random variable x represents the number of girls among 10 children. Use the range rule of thumb to determine whether 1 girl in 10 births is a significantly low number of girls.

Use the range rule of thumb to identify a range of values that are not significant.

The maximum value in this range is?
(Round to one decimal place as needed.)

6. Assume that when adults with smartphones are randomly selected, 49%
use them in meetings or classes. If 7
adult smartphone users are randomly selected, find the probability that exactly 3
of them use their smartphones in meetings or classes.

The probability is?
(Round to four decimal places as needed.)

7. Assume that hybridization experiments are conducted with peas having the property that for offspring, there is a 0.75
probability that a pea has green pods. Assume that the offspring peas are randomly selected in groups of 20.
Complete parts (a) through (c) below.

a. Find the mean and the standard deviation for the numbers of peas with green pods in the groups of 20.

The value of the mean is μ=?
peas.
(Type an integer or a decimal. Do not round.)

8. When purchasing bulk orders of batteries, a toy manufacturer uses this acceptance sampling plan: Randomly select and test 40
batteries and determine whether each is within specifications. The entire shipment is accepted if at most 3
batteries do not meet specifications. A shipment contains 7000
batteries, and 3%
of them do not meet specifications. What is the probability that this whole shipment will be accepted? Will almost all such shipments be accepted, or will many be rejected?

The probability that this whole shipment will be accepted is?
(Round to four decimal places as needed.)

9.If a procedure meets all of the conditions of a binomial distribution except the number of trials is not fixed, then the geometric distribution can be used. The probability of getting the first success on the xth trial is given by P(x)=p(1−p)x−1,
where p is the probability of success on any one trial. Subjects are randomly selected for a health survey. The probability that someone is a universal donor (with group O and type Rh negative blood) is 0.07.
Find the probability that the first subject to be a universal blood donor is the eighth
person selected.

The probability is?
(Round to four decimal places as needed.)

10. A rare form of malignant tumor occurs in 11 children in a million, so its probability is 0.000011. Four cases of this tumor occurred in a certain town, which had 12,800
children.

a. Assuming that this tumor occurs as usual, find the mean number of cases in groups of
12,800
children.
b. Using the unrounded mean from part (a),
find the probability that the number of tumor cases in a group of 12,800
children is 0 or 1.
c. What is the probability of more than one case?
d. Does the cluster of four cases appear to be attributable to random chance? Why or why not?

a. The mean number of cases is?
(Type an integer or decimal rounded to three decimal places as needed.)

11. Match these values of r with the accompanying scatterplots: 0.994,

Health Science Questions

Please answer the following short essay questions:

Question 1

Visit the website of the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc.

1. What are the requirements to take the credentialing exam? What is the current cost and schedule for the exam? Would you take the exam to obtain the Certified Health Education Specialist credential? Why or why not?

2. Speak with a CHES. Determine his or her perceptions on the benefits of the certification. Determine the costs, including time and money, to maintain the credential.

3. Examine the Responsibilities and Competencies for Health Educators in Appendix B. They are supposed to be generic competencies, meaning they are practiced by health educators in all settings. Do you believe that they are truly generic? If not, identify sub competencies that you feel are not used in all settings. Are there competencies that may be practiced by health educators in a given setting which are omitted.

4. There are no specific references in the Responsibilities and Competencies for Health Educators knowledge about health content (e.g., sexuality, drugs, disease prevention, and nutrition). Many professionals feel that content is “embedded” in the sub competencies. How do you feel about this issue: should specific content be included; is knowledge a competency; can you determine if and where content is “embedded” in the sub competencies?

Question 2

What are the standards and processes for a community health program to receive the SOPHE/AAHE Baccalaureate Program Approval Committee accreditation? Compare the two in rigor, standards, and effects on the programs.

Question 3

Look ten years into the future and predict how educational technology will be developed and used. Remember to include satellites, fiber optics, Internet, personal recognition devices, and the vast array of personal devices available. Include applications to classrooms, worksite, and distance learning. Consider the effects of technology and accreditation requirements on the future of education.

Question 4

Study the population trends in your state. For example, what are the rates of increase or decrease in minority populations, various age groups, and immigrants? What problems and opportunities do these trends suggest for health educators/promoters? Suggest some programming ideas to meet the needs of the shifting population.

Question 5

Identify a current health controversy that is being addressed by the governing body of your state or city (i.e., health insurance for illegal immigrants). Consider the perspectives of both the opponents and supporters of this issue, state the reasons for their positions, and provide your own personal opinion as to how the overall health of the community would be best served. From a health education and promotion perspective, what strategies could you use to promote the benefits of your point of view?

Question 6

Conventional marketing stresses the 4 P’s. Read about the 4 P’s and explain how they could be applied to social marketing for health educators/promoters.
