    Continuing Your Professional Development
    Throughout the course, the importance of locating, evaluating, and applying research in both your professional practice and your work as a graduate learner was stressed. To stay current in the research and literature related to your passions and interests in psychology, complete the following:
  • Use the Journal Alerts page of the Psychology Library Research Guide to learn how to set up a journal alert for the important journals relevant to your interests in psychology. See the specialization tabs for links to individual important journals in your specialization.
  • Retake the Library Research Knowledge Assessment to see how you are developing proficiency in research and information literacy skills and to identify additional support for continuing your competency in this area.

    Throughout the course, you worked toward developing the following professional competencies:
  1. Analyze the role of the practitioner-scholar model in guiding professional development.
  2. Evaluate psychological literature in terms of reliability, credibility, ethics, and value.
  3. Analyze the functions, responsibilities, and ethics required of a psychology professional.
  4. Apply critical thinking and effective decision making.
  5. Communicate in a manner that is scholarly, professional, and consistent with expectations for professionals in the field of psychology.
  6. Take some time to reflect on how you have grown in your knowledge and ability to perform these competencies in the past 10 weeks. Also, consider how you will take these competencies forward with you and apply them in your future courses.
     Master’s Capstone and Integrative Project
     At the end of your program, you will be asked to complete an integrative project, which will provide you with an opportunity to bring all the learning and mastery you will acquire throughout your academic program journey into a single artifact. While you are not required to do any work toward your capstone in this course, keep it in mind as you progress through your academic journey. Write down ideas for potential topics, save journal articles that might be helpful for a literature review, and pay attention to the areas of study that excite you. Doing just a little bit to help prepare yourself as you move through your program will help you when it comes time to work on your integrative project at the end of your program.

  • Note on Special Courses
    As you advance in your master’s program in psychology, you should be aware of some variation in the design of your courses. While most Capella courses are designed in a consistent manner, it has been found advantageous to vary course design for a small number of special courses. For example, certain high-enrollment courses have been designed to take advantage of the larger number of learners to provide a different kind of learning experience.
    In these courses, the instructor, while fully present, takes a back seat to learners’ peer interactions. This type of course will provide you with greater opportunities to refine your professional communication skills. Peer-to-peer assessment can play a major role in helping you develop these skills. Such a course can be a challenging, but very rewarding, learning experience—one in which your success depends upon your wholehearted participation in a shared learning process.

In this lesson we learned some key differences between digital and analog photography and some applications of each.

This unit has two separate tracks of projects depending on your access to a digital camera.

If you have access to a digital camera (even if you don’t own one you may borrow one from a friend or family member) we STRONGLY recommend that you take some digital photos. There is no substitute for actually creating digital art. You will surprise yourself with some of the great photos you capture.

If you have access to a digital camera, follow track 1. We recommend that you take a look at the other projects in track 1 for this unit as they build on each other and you can work at your own pace.

TRACK 1

Find a digital camera and get comfortable

The first step is to find a digital camera that you can borrow to use for this unit. Don’t worry about the technical quality of the camera. For our purposes, even an inexpensive camera can help you take great photos. Ask to also borrow the camera manual. If the original is not available, there’s still a good chance you’ll be able to find it online. The manual will highlight some of the camera’s best features that you might have trouble accessing on your own. Get comfortable with the camera by practicing. Take some photos in various settings.

Write any questions or discussions you have.

TRACK 2

Identify quality photos online

If you don’t have access to a digital camera or choose not to participate in taking photos you can search the web for five photos that you believe have artistic merit.

Post the photos and write a few lines under each photo about why you think it is an example of good quality photography.

Assignment Guidelines:

REMEMBER: You have to follow one track of assignments; either shoot photos or write about photos. You can not mix the tracks.

Submission Requirements:

Track 1: A log of questions or comments about the process of familiarizing yourself with a digital camera.

Track 2: Photos and a description of why they appeal to you.

When submitting written assignments please remember to:

1. Submit the assignment question(s) and your responses.
2. Proof read for spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
3. Remember to use complete sentence structure.
4. Paragraphs need to have a minimum of six sentences.

 Upload your Digital Photography project for the track that you chose to explore. 

Individually, you will complete an “Extended” Executive Summary of 500-750 words.  Extended in that you must offer detailed comments on each element of the Strategic Case Analysis, while the team’s Executive Summary will be the “highlights” (key points) of each section.  The intent here is to allow you enough opportunity to prove your grasp of the tools and concepts as you present, both in writing and in a 6-9 minute video, your findings and recommendations for the case you and your colleagues spent the last seven weeks developing.  While it is not necessary for you to spend time explaining the points of differentiation between you and your team members, it is very important that you do explain how you came to the conclusions and recommendations you are submitting. *Weeks 1 – 7 are below in this paper*

Do the following:

Complete an “Extended” Executive Summary by providing detailed comments on each element of the Strategic Case Analysis you completed with your CLC group. Where appropriate among the various elements of the Strategic Case Analysis, address the following points:

1. Recommend strategic plans to improve the company’s competitive advantage. 

2. Explain how leadership skills can be used to encourage innovation to improve the company. 

3. Recommend specific decisions company leadership can make in order to capitalize on untapped business opportunities. 

4. List the sources you used to inform the development of your strategic case analysis as well as the sources that inform your suggestions in points a-c above. 

This is for you to upload the first draft of your essay. This assignment will be worth 50 points, and will be graded using the rubric posted as if it were your final submission so that you can fine tune your final submission. Your TA and Instructor will provide feedback and comments on your essay within 2-3 business days of your submission.

Your essay needs to meet the following criteria.

• At least 1500 words in length. This word count does not count your Works Cited section.
• At least four (4) sources that do not include Wikipedia. These sources must be cited in your essay using appropriate in-text citations. You may use whatever citation style is comfortable for you (MLA, APA, Chicago Style, ACS, etc.). The key here is to cite your information and provide sources.
  • Wikipedia is a wonderful resource to start your research. When preparing a research paper, I generally start with Wikipedia and then refer to the sources listed there for direct referencing.
  • You may NOT cite, personal websites or blogs, or unsubstantiated newspaper claims.
• Plagiarism will be evaluated using TurnItIn. You will have access to your Similarity Report immediately after submission. If your Similarity Report is more than 20%, you will automatically receive a grade of zero for this assignment and it will be investigated for Academic Integrity violations.
• If uploading a document, it must be a DOCX, DOC, or PDF file. (Canvas and TurnItin do not support PAGES documents or GoogleDocs.)
  • You are allowed to copy your essay directly in to Canvas as direct text.
• All answers to the Starting Point Questionnaire need to be answered in your essay.

Your score will be broken down as follows.

• 32 points based on attached rubric.
  • The rubric score will be multiplied by 2.
• 10 points for meeting the 1500 word count minimum.
• 5 points for having at least four unique sources with proper in-text citations.
• 3 points for submitting the essay.
