Risk Management Plan Outline and Research

This project is divided into several parts, each with a deliverable. The first four parts are drafts. These documents should resemble business reports in that they are organized by headings, include source citations (if any), be readable, and be free from typos and grammatical errors. However, they are not final, polished reports. Please see the attached requirements.

Project Part 1: Risk Management Plan Outline and Research

For the first part of the assigned project, you will create a partial draft of the risk management plan. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Research risk management plans.
  2. Create an outline for a basic risk management plan with anticipated section headings (as indicated in this numbered list). This plan will include a qualitative risk assessment, which is addressed later in the project.
  3. Write an introduction to the plan by explaining its purpose and importance.
  4. Define the scope and boundaries of the plan.
  5. Research and summarize compliance laws and regulations that pertain to the organization. Keep track of sources you use for citation purposes.
  6. Identify the key roles and responsibilities of individuals and departments within the organization as they pertain to risk management.
  7. Develop a proposed schedule for the risk management planning process.
  8. Create a draft risk management plan detailing the information above. Format the plan similar to a professional business report and cite any sources you used.

Submission Requirements

  • Format: Microsoft Word (or compatible)
  • Font: Arial, size 12, double-space
  • Citation style: Your school’s preferred style guide

Estimated length: 4–6 pages

Clinical Field Experience A: Using Technology and Media in the Classroom

Using technology-based resources within the English language arts classroom supports real-world applications and helps to inspire teachers in their lesson planning and instructional practices. Continually exploring technology resources that can be utilized within the classroom demonstrates a teaching best practice.

Allocate at least 4 hours in the field to support this field experience.

Observe an English language arts lesson taught by a certified K-8 teacher that integrates educational technology to enhance instruction. During the observation, take note of how technology was used and its effectiveness.

Following your observation, collaborate with your mentor teacher to discuss the integration of technology in the ELA classroom. Specifically discuss with your mentor teacher his or her practices related to ensuring the safe, legal, and ethical use of technology in the classroom.

Use any remaining field experience hours to assist the teacher in providing instruction and support to the class.

In 500-750 words, reflect on your observation and discussion by addressing the following:

· During the lesson you observed, what technology resources did your mentor teacher use?

· Describe the ways in which the observed technology positively or negatively contributed to instruction and engagement.

· What specific additional technology could have been used within the lesson and how would you have used them?

· How does your mentor teacher ensure the safe, legal, and ethical use of technology and information accessed from the technological resources?

· Explain how you will use your findings related to the use of technology in ELA instruction in your future professional practice.

Attach video you observed.

Touchstone 2.1: Comparison/Contrast Essay

ASSIGNMENT: Write a 3-4 page (approximately 700-1000 words) comparison/contrast essay in the informative mode. In addition, you must answer the “Think About Your Writing” questions, described below, beneath your essay.

Sample Comparison/Contrast Essay In order to foster learning and growth, all essays you submit must be newly written specifically for this course. Any recycled work will be sent back with a 0, and you will be given one attempt to redo the Touchstone.

A. Instructions

Begin by choosing a topic for your comparison/contrast essay. You are free to select your own topic, or you may use one of the sample topics listed below. However, you should choose a topic that you have knowledge of so that you have sufficient points of comparison or contrast to discuss in your essay. You will need to compare or contrast two or three primary points about the two subjects you choose to write about, resulting in an essay with either four or six body paragraphs, an introductory paragraph, and a conclusion.

  • Compare or contrast two cities you’ve visited or that you’ve lived in
  • Compare or contrast two members of your family
  • Compare or contrast two sources of news
  • Compare or contrast two singers in different music genres
  • Compare or contrast two historical figures
  • Compare or contrast two artists (for example, Vincent van Gogh and Pablo Picasso or Keith Haring and Andy Warhol)
  • Compare or contrast two eras in time
  • Compare or contrast two television series
  • Compare or contrast two types of technologies (for example, Android and Apple phones or PlayStation and Xbox)
  • Compare or contrast two medical topics (for example, traditional medicine and modern medicine or doctors and midwives)

Remember that the two subjects you choose should have a meaningful connection so that you can draw comparisons or contrasts between the two.

Your thesis should convey the main idea of the essay and clearly articulate what two topics you are comparing/contrasting. Because you are writing in the informative mode for this essay, you should use objective language. Remember that for this essay, you are not trying to persuade or convince the audience that one thing is better or worse than the other; you are instead informing the reader about the similarities or differences between the two subjects in an objective manner.

B. Think About Your Writing

After you’ve drafted your essay, answer the following questions about your writing. Include answers to all of the questions below your essay.

1. Did you use the point-by-point or block method to organize your body paragraphs? What made you decide to organize your essay in this way (3-4 sentences)? Sophia says: Consider the ways a comparison/contrast essay can be organized. Which organization did you choose and why?

2. In what ways did writing a comparison/contrast essay differ from the Narrative essay you wrote in Touchstone 1? Give specific examples (3-4 sentences). Sophia says: Consider how the structure, point of view, and purpose of the two essays differ.

3. Remember that the writing process is a recursive process, and your first draft of an essay is rarely your last. What part of the draft did you struggle with (3-4 sentences)? Sophia says: Think about how you could improve the draft if you continued the writing process with revision and editing.

C. Comparison/Contrast Guidelines

Refer to the checklist below throughout the writing process. Do not submit your Touchstone until your draft meets all of the guidelines.

Elements of a Comparison/Contrast Essay

❒ Are the body paragraphs organized either by point or by subject?
❒ Have you used transitional words or phrases to indicate points being compared or contrasted?
❒ Does the essay have a clear and consistent focus of comparing and contrasting two subjects?

Thesis Statement

❒ Have you included a clear, focused, and detailed thesis statement?
❒ Does your thesis state the subjects to be compared or contrasted and include the two or three points of comparison or contrast?
❒ Is your thesis a single sentence located in the introductory paragraph?

Organization

❒ Is there an introductory paragraph that contains your thesis statement?
❒ Are there four or six total body paragraphs, each with a clear topic sentence?
❒ Is there a conclusion paragraph with a concluding statement?
❒ Have you used transitions to connect ideas between sentences and paragraphs?

Style and Tone

❒ Is the tone of the essay objective and informative?
❒ Have you carefully considered your word choices?
❒ Is the purpose of your essay clearly to inform the reader about the similarities or differences between the two subjects?

Conventions

❒ Have you checked your essay for grammatical and mechanical errors?
❒ Have you used spell check or another method to check spelling?

Before you Submit

❒ Have you included your name, date, and course at the top left of the page?
❒ Have you completed the “Think About Your Writing” questions?
❒ Is your essay between 3-4 pages (approximately 700-1000 words)?

D. Scoring

Your essay will be scored according to the Touchstone 2.1 Rubric, which considers required elements for a comparison/contrast essay, the thesis statement, focus, organization, style and tone, conventions, and answers to the “Think About your Writing” questions above.

Case Analysis: Sacramento City School Board of Education v. Rachel H.

Case Analysis: Sacramento City School Board of Education v. Rachel H.

This assignment assesses your ability to:

  • Evaluate how the foundations of the legal concept Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) currently influence students and educators in classrooms in the United States, and
  • Summarize how the IDEA legislation can promote a collaborative decision-making process about special education placement and services in the United States.

This assignment also supports your achievement of Course Learning Outcome 4, 6, and 7 and the MASE Program Learning Outcome 1, 4, 5, 6, and 8.

The parents of Rachel Holland, an 11-year old girl, wanted their daughter educated in a general classroom with her non-disabled peers. Rachel was labeled as “mentally retarded” (Intellectually Disabled), with an Intelligence Quotient (IQ) of 44. The school district proposed an alternative schedule where she would attend separate, self-contained classes for the academic subjects and participate in non-academic classes with her non-disabled peers. Rachel’s parents were not satisfied with this option so they enrolled her in a private school while they sought mediation (Kids Together, Inc., 2010).

This dispute, which became a major court case, is based on how the concept of the “Least Restrictive Environment” is defined and interpreted as intended by the IDEA. According to legislation:

The maximum extent appropriate, children with disabilities… are educated with children who are not disabled and special classes [or] separate schooling… [only] occurs only when the nature or severity of the disability… is such that education in regular classes with the use of supplementary aids and services cannot be achieved satisfactorily. (U.S. Department of Education, n.d., para A)

Rachel’s parents believed that educating their daughter in the general classroom, with her non-disabled peers, was her least restrictive environment. The school felt that they could not satisfactorily meet her needs even with supplementary aids and services. Your required reading for this week describes the details of the case, the findings of the court and how this case has impacted the reasonable attempts that educators must make to place students with disabilities in fully inclusive settings to ensure their success.

Having heard unclear information through the school gossip chain, some of the teachers at your school have expressed questions regarding the issue of LRE. Since you have become a source of information your principal has requested that your make a presentation to the teachers at the next staff meeting.

Instructions
Read the article entitled, “Where to Evaluate Rachel Holland? Does Least Restrictive Environment Mean No Restrictions?” (DeMitchell & Kearns, 1997) which is accessible from the EBSCOhost database. Using support from this article, your course textbook, the Instructor Guidance, and supplemental information derived from the discussions you will create a presentation using Google Slides (Links to an external site.), Prezi (Links to an external site.), or PowerPoint that addresses the following components:

Content Expectations

  • Summarize the court case including each party’s perspective.
  • Explain the four factors, known as the “Rachel H. test.”
  • Describe how the “Rachel H. Test” is a collaborative decision-making process in determining special education placement decisions.
  • Justify or dispute the court’s final ruling.
  • Consider from your own experience what constitutes an appropriate setting for a student with a profile similar to Rachel H’s.
  • Clarify how this decision influences today’s determination of appropriate educational settings for students with disabilities?

Written Expectations

  • Syntax and Mechanics: Exhibit meticulous use of grammar, spelling, organization, and usage throughout your submission.
  • Source Requirement: Reference at least the two required reading sources in order to provide compelling evidence to support your ideas.
  • Slide Requirement: Your submission must be between 12-14 slides in length not including a title and reference page.
  • Graphics: Include creative use of graphics and colors to enhance your presentation.
  • APA format: All in text citations, page format and references must be written in APA 6th edition format.

Health Care Affecting Developing World

The paper should state and defend an argument (thesis) about how health care is affecting the developing world and the lack of certain medications, doctors, and other useful resources. As well as how it is power driven at times by the government and social classes not helping them develop as well. Papers should begin with 2-3 introductory paragraphs that contain a thesis. The thesis is the argument that your paper will make or the question that your paper will attempt to answer. In addition to containing your thesis statement, the introduction should also inform the reader about what will follow in the remainder of the paper. Let the reader know what major points you will address in making your case.Think of the introduction as providing a road map for the reader. The reader should not be surprised at the destination where he or she winds up when the paper ends! The body of the paper should be devoted to providing support for your thesis statement. It may be helpful to organize the paper using substantive headings. The conclusion of the paper should restate your thesis and review the evidence. Conclusions are also an opportunity for you to make predictions about the future developments concerning your topic.

  • Your paper must have a length of 8-10 pages, not including any title page or bibliography.
  • The paper should use at least 8 sources:
    • At least 4 sources must come from books or published articles (you may use the library’s full-text databases).
    • At least 3 sources must be scholarly sources. Scholarly sources are sources written by experts in a particular field providing original research or analyzing the research of others.  Such sources are often peer reviewed and properly reference all sources.
    • By checking the box, “scholarly (peer-reviewed)” on the search page that will filter out most of the non-scholarly articles. CQ Researcher is another good resource. If you are uncertain about the appropriateness of a source, please ask.
  • Papers should end with a bibliography listing all the books and articles that you used to research the paper. Please keep in mind the guidelines for number and type of sources.
  • You should provide a citation within the text of your paper each time you:
  1. use direct quotes
  2. make indirect quotes passages that rely on someone else’s wording, and
  3. refer to evidence or ideas found in a book or article.
  • Papers should be double-spaced, with one-inch margins and written in 11 or 12 pt. font.
  • Papers should be written in APA format. Use Microsoft Word format.
