Exploring Your Student Support Services

As a student, you may encounter a number of situations where you will need to seek support and guidance to navigate your experiences. In this activity, you will read a series of university life scenarios to help you gain familiarity with the student support services available to you. After reading all scenarios, select one. Determine which university resources would best meet the needs in the selected case and explain why.

Scenario 1

Julia is taking an accounting class, but isn’t comfortable with the material. She knows that she has homework assignments each week as well as a business proposal due at the end of the class. She is feeling overwhelmed by the content of the course and doesn’t know where to begin with her proposal. What resources are available to Julia that could help her be successful this semester? How will those resources help her?

Scenario 2

Robert is returning to school after a long time away. While he doesn’t believe he can really afford to pay for a degree, he knows that he needs it to advance at work. He has registered for his first class, but notices that there is a required PowerPoint presentation. He isn’t sure he’ll be able to afford to buy software in addition to his tuition. What resources are available to help Robert remain in his degree program and be successful? How will these resources benefit him?

Scenario 3

Tiffany is currently enrolled in an IFSM class that requires group work. Tiffany struggles to keep up due to diagnosed ADHD, but is doing her best. However, one of her group mates does not feel that Tiffany is “pulling her weight” and begins complaining in the discussion forums about it while also sending Tiffany threatening messages. Tiffany hasn’t told anyone about managing ADHD and doesn’t want to make a big deal about it, but is starting to worry about how this will impact her grade and how she is supposed to handle her teammate. Who should Tiffany reach out to about this situation? How can these individuals or groups help her?

Scenario 4

Jake is currently in Week 3 of two classes, but he has just been told that he will be deployed in five days for 6 weeks. This means he will miss the rest of his class. He knows that he won’t be able to complete all of his work in the next five days (while preparing for deployment), but he’s not sure what to do. This semester, he chose to use student loans to pay for his classes due to the fact that he ran out of military Tuition Assistance in the previous semester. Who should Jake talk to about his concerns? How can they assist?

In your response, identify the student support services you would leverage and how you would expect the service to help. Post your response by 11:59 p.m. ET on Sunday of Week 6, and respond to two classmates by 11:59 p.m. ET on Tuesday of Week 6.

philosophy week 1 discussion

 Discussion 2 – Reality

Question for Discussion 2

Not only does the greek word kosmos (cosmos) mean “reality”, it also has the connotation of an ordered and beautiful system. Pre-Socratic philosophers examined reality in an effort to show it as an ordered and beautiful system despite the fact that the world often seems chaotic to us. What do you make of this effort? Do you believe there is evidence to show that the world is fundamentally a place of order and beauty?

Discussion Assignments have the following objectives:

  1. Identify and describe key concepts presented in textbook reading material, video lectures, and other assigned content.
  2. Draw connections between assigned content material and practical areas of interest.
  3. Explore ideas in philosophical depth beyond the presentation of course material.
  4. Draw connections between philosophical discourse and one’s practical life.
  5. Engage in respectful philosophical conversation.
    1. This objective will be measured according to replies posted to other students or to professors.

When completing discussion assignments, please remember:

  • Your main post should take a minimum of 250 words. Explain and support what you say.
  • Any sources that you use must – including textbook and video lectures – be cited and referenced responsibly. APA format
  • You should post at least two substantial replies to other participants.
  • Please refer to the syllabus and grading rubric for more guidance.

2 part assignment

Part 1: The purpose of this assignment is to identify an organizational problem to solve within your current workplace or industry and construct a problem statement that can be used as the basis for an action research project.

For this assignment, the first step is to identify an organizational problem to solve within your current workplace or industry. This is an opportunity for you to apply your learning while addressing a real-world problem.

Part of completing an action research project is clearly identifying and stating the organizational problem that needs to be resolved through the use of a problem statement. The problem statement must clearly articulate the single goal of the action research project. Use what you have learned in the Topic Materials to construct a problem statement for your action research project. Read and complete the “Writing a Problem Statement” handout to construct your problem statement. Submit the completed handout to your instructor.

Your problem statement will eventually become part of your final business proposal that will be submitted in Topic 8.

APA style is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

Part 2:

The purpose of this assignment is to use an affinity diagram to brainstorm and identify root causes of the organizational problem and potential solutions for addressing it.

Now that you have identified the basic problem you want to resolve within your organization, you will need to think about root causes for the problem. Read the Topic Materials and the “Brainstorming With an Affinity Diagram” handout to help you narrow and specify the cause(s) for the problem.

Complete the affinity diagram action steps outlined on the “Brainstorming With an Affinity Diagram” handout, including the “Five Whys Root Causes Analysis.” This can be done using online mind mapping resources like those found in the Topic Materials, by using post-it notes, or through the use of Excel or Word documents and tables. When constructing the affinity diagram, be sure to complete all six steps described on the handout. You will reference these root causes

APA style is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

Cyber Tactics Responses

Provide (2) 150 words substantive response with a minimum of 1 APA references for RESPONSES 1 AND 2 below. Response provided should further discuss the subject or provide more insight. To further understand the response, below is the discussion post that’s discusses the responses. 100% original work and not plagiarized. Must meet deadline.

RESPONSE 1:

In 2014, Upsher-Smith Laboratories was targeted by cyber-criminals who employed a business email compromise phishing scam. The cyber-criminals successfully sent emails to the company’s accounts payable department requesting several wire transfers in the amount of $39 million dollars. The emails appeared to originate from the business’s CEO. When the scam was eventually discovered, Upsher-Smith Laboratories took steps to stop all of the wire transfers but were only able to recall one of nine transfers. Had the last transfer been submitted, the cyber criminals would have netted $50 million dollars from Upsher-Smith Laboratories.  The attack was extremely successful, and the perpetrators of the attack were never identified. Upsher-Smith Laboratories appears to still be in ligation with its own bank whom they are suing for facilitating the transfer. This type of phishing attack is commonly known as Whaling or CEO Fraud. This type of attack targets CEOs and the information obtained from such an attack can be used to authorize fraudulent wire transfers to a financial institution of their choice or  conduct “W-2 phishing in which they request W-2 information for all employees so that they can file fake tax returns on their behalf or post that data on the dark web.” Effective countermeasures to mitigate the impact of such an attack include setting up a multifactor authentication system so that there is not a single point of failure with respect to wire transfers. Perhaps the most effective countermeasure is targeted employee and CEO training.

RESPONSE 2:

Phishing attacks have become very common with advancements in technology and cyber attacks. One phishing attack that was very successful is called the Pickachu virus. Pikachu virus was designed target younger generation of children by sending malicious links to anime Pikachu. The phishing attack was designed to damage the configuration files within computer and directory files once executed ( Kate Johanns June 30th 2017 ). The phishing email spread throughout all outlook and eventually infected millions of computers once executed like Worm. The pikachu virus was designed to be friendly for children but was infected with malicious intent to damage victim computer.

The pikachu virus was very successful because it targeted less aware community by infecting their computers. The virus that spread though emails was classified as being low risk because after reboot it asked for permissions to effect the computer. The virus was considered to be worm that was attached to phishing email and was highly effective. Millions of users were infected and fell victim to this phishing email. The Pikachu virus would not take affect on victims computer until reboot and all configuration file would be deleted by Pikachu virus. The person that actually wrote the virus was never caught and still to this day is unknown. The best counter measures to Blocking this attack would have been update anti virus and essential user training to younger generation to avoid this type attack. It’s important for younger generation to understand the dangers of the internet and how it works.

Final Evaluation

You will create a final program evaluation of the program you have evaluated for your community agency. Your final evaluation will have several components described below. Attention should be given to formatting and layout so that a professional product is presented. Final evaluations may be shared with the organization with student permission. Please use 12-point Times New Roman font. There is no set page requirement, however, aiming for 12-15 pages can be a goal. Points will not be deducted if you have more or fewer pages, rather, points will be deducted for not meeting the requirements of the assignment.

An example of a program evaluation will be posted on Module 14. This is posted to let you see how your program evaluation might be formatted and what the information might look like when compiled together. You can also google program evaluations to find other examples if those are helpful for you.

Executive Summary: Think of the executive summary as an abstract like we would read in a published journal article. The executive summary is a snapshot and overview of the evaluation that you are presenting and the information that will follow in the report in more detail. This should include the statement of the problem (use and appropriately reference citations) that your program seeks to solve; the program’s impact; and a summary of your results.

Program Description: In this section you are going to describe the program being evaluated in detail. You can think about this as an assessment, if you were writing an assessment of a client, what is important to know? Write about the program and describe the program. You should have started this with your logic model assignment. You will want this to be more robust and complete for the final evaluation. Some questions to help get you started may include: What is the purpose of the program? Who does it serve? How does it work? How long does it last?, etc. In this section you will draw on empirical articles from peer reviewed journals to connect the program and what we know about this focus area. At least 5 empirical articles should be used throughout the final evaluation.

Program Setting: In this section you will provide the context for the program you are evaluating. As social workers we consider the person in the environment. This is no different for a program evaluation. Think of your program as the “person” and the setting as the environment. Where is the agency located? What is the community like? What is important to know? For example, if the agency is in Germantown, what might be important for someone to know about the area and the clients that might participate in the program? If your program and agency are in Orange Mound, what might be important? If the program draws clients from across Memphis, what is important to know about the population, the community, the structure? Describe the agency, the city, the neighborhood, etc. Paint the picture for your audience of the setting. You can also consider using pictures to bring the setting to life if you would like. Be sure to appropriately cite your references.

Program Goals: In this section you are going to state and describe the goals of the program. You will draw on what you have in your logic model (modify if necessary). The goals include the outcomes (short-term goals) and the impact (long-term goals). For this section you will do more than simply state the goals. You will describe them and provide complete sentence narrative to help draw connections between the problem that the program is addressing (stated in your executive summary) and connecting to aspects in the program description and setting. As you are pulling your evaluation together, you are telling a cohesive story from beginning to end, not just having pieces to check off a list. If you keep this in mind, it will help with flow and your evaluation will be more fluid and complete. You may have literature to connect in this section.

Method: Int his section you are describing the methods you used for your data analysis. In detail you will describe your data, how you analyzed your data (the statistical tests you chose to use and why). In this section you will also describe your sample (provide some information about who the data are from, for example, clients? staff members? etc.)

Results Narrative: In this section you are presenting the results in narrative form. You will provide the results from your analyses. This section should include descriptive data as well as the results from the statistical analyses. Your results section should provide all the detail necessary for the reader to understand what tests you ran and the results. This should be complete so the reader does not have to look at charts/figures/graphs to understand what was found during the analysis.

Results Figures: For this portion, you will need to have several graphs and/or tables embedded within your written document. You will need to reference these in your narrative. Similar to charts and table sin published articles, when writing about the information in a pie chart, for example, you would write the information and then say (see figure 1). Then you place the pie chart in the document. Similar to the narrative portion, your charts, figures, and graphs must be appropriate for the data and be able to convey the necessary information to stand on their own. The reader should not need to reference the narrative in order to understand the charts, figures, and graphs.

Implications & Recommendations: In this section you will discuss implications and make recommendations for the program and agency. You will discuss the results and what they mean for the program, agency, clients, etc. You will also make recommendations. Also think about policy recommendations (this can be program policy, agency policy, local policy, state policy, or federal policy). Your recommendations should be based on the goals of the program and the results of your evaluation and should connect back to the literature.

Nursing Questions

1. I was blessed to travel to Japan in summer 2019 to join my youngest daughter to tour her lab and travel around for a few weeks. She completed 10 weeks of undergraduate research at Ritsumeikan University using the Plantago major plant. It is a common weed/plant in yards and I have used it to treat burns and bee stings (Jeanroy, 2019). My daughter extracted a compound from the plant, made 3 fractions, and fed the fractions to diabetic mice to examine efficacy for treatment of the disease by examining hepatic and pancreatic cells (proud mom here!). Abud et al. (2017) also conducted a similar experiment.

· QUESTION: What type of epidemiological study might be appropriate to examine the efficacy of this plant extract diabetes treatment among humans?

EXAM-QUEST II ETHICAL-PSYCOP

II. Analysis: Ethical Dilemma

Jorge has to carry out a clinical intervention related to drug use by a 14-year-old adolescent. Jorge is interested in wanting to do a good intervention. It is his first case of his and he had never worked with a subject like that. In the hallway he meets Rosa and tells her that he has a case where he has to do clinical interventions with a client using controlled substances. Jorge told Rosa that he has about 5 techniques to apply with the young woman. Rosa asks him what they are and he replies that they are very effective. She said that she used them with a 17-year-old boy who had behavior problems. Rosa told him to be careful and told him that she could help him if he wanted. He replied that he had a master’s degree and that she talked about it in a class. In addition, he indicated to Rosa that he has a study carried out in Chile that says that these techniques work well when young. Rosa asked him if he consulted with the minor’s parents. He replied that he explained that I was talking about the Chilean study. He added that the parents had reservations at first, but he explained what he did in his college class assignments and convinced them to sign the authorization.
