Learning Exercise

You are the business manager of a fifteen-physician group prac-tice in family medicine that at a recent strategic planning retreatagreed to open a satellite clinic on the periphery of its current marketarea in order to increase the number of families that it serves. Theclinic will be located in an area of somewhat older, rundown homesthat seems to be undergoing slow but steady gentrification. Theclinic initially will be staffed by three physicians and has a max-imum capacity of ten doctors. One of your responsibilities under thestrategic plan to create the clinic is to establish a modest programfor keeping track of the factors and variables that might affect thesuccess of the clinic. To get started, prepare a list of ten to fifteenfinancial and nonfinancial metrics that you propose to monitor, including the sources you will use to gather the necessary data. Foreach one of the metrics, indicate the directions in which they mightchange and the adjustments in the plan for the new clinic that wouldbe necessary.

As the Learning Exercise states, you are the business manager who has been tasked with researching the financial viability of opening a satellite clinic. Identify which things you should measure to determine if you open the satellite clinic.

Create a slide presentation (15 slides including title and reference slides) that addresses the following:

  1. Identify 10-15 financial and nonfinancial metrics used      to assess the viability of opening a satellite clinic. From this list,      select three financial and three nonfinancial metrics that are the most      important and explain their significance (net revenue, demographics,      customer relations). Where will you find, and how will you gather, the      identified metrics you need to develop your assessment? Be sure to      identify each metric as external or internal.
  2. Provide a description for each selected metric (total      of six descriptions). Depending on the data provided, how can each metric      affect the plans for the new clinic? Assuming the satellite clinic will      open, how will you set up a monitoring and adjustment program? List the      required steps. Why is a monitoring, evaluating, and adjusting strategy      essential to overall organizational success for the new clinic? Provide      two possible events that a successful monitoring program could identify      and what adjustments could apply.

Alibaba and Global E-Commerce: Should Amazon Be Afraid?

Alibaba and Global E-Commerce: Should Amazon Be Afraid?

From rural farmers to multimillionaires, millions of people in China are reaping economic opportunities from the growing e-commerce market. One entrepreneur earns $5 million in sales annually from his ladies’ handbag e-commerce business—a far cry from his humble origins. Although his success might be the exception to the norm, many Chinese consumers with similar backgrounds have found jobs working in e-commerce.

“We grew up in a rural area which left us few choices. I never thought about my future or had any belief in it,” the entrepreneur says.

At the center of this is Alibaba, an online marketplace founded by entrepreneur Jack Ma in 1999. Jack Ma conceived of an online portal that could connect Chinese manufacturers with buyers from other countries. He chose the name of Alibaba because it was globally recognized based on the famous character in the collection Arabian Nights. Today this multibillion dollar firm has 500 million registered users. Its sales surpass those of eBay and Amazon combined. Alibaba runs a number of businesses that handle approximately 80 percent of all online shopping in China. Unlike Amazon, it does not own is own merchandise but acts as a portal to bring buyers and sellers together.

This is just the beginning for Alibaba. In 2014 it was listed on the U.S. stock exchange with an initial offering of $25 billion, the largest IPO to date. To emphasize its global intentions, Alibaba opened offices in France, Germany, and Italy. It is also focused on selling more international brands such as Macy’s, Apple, and L’Oreal. In its quest to expand into media, Alibaba entered into licensing agreement with Disney to sell a streaming device that will broadcast movies, television shows, e-books, games, and more.

Although it is listed on the U.S. stock exchange, investing in Alibaba differs from the traditional model due to regulatory and legal barriers. The Chinese government restricts foreign investment in certain areas, meaning that global investors outside of China cannot own shares of Alibaba outright. In reality, investors purchased shares of a shell corporation in the Cayman Islands. Alibaba itself owns all of its non-Chinese assets. Jack Ma has the most power in the company, and some investors are concerned about his tendency to make large decisions or transfer ownership without consulting many other people.

Another issue that Alibaba is coming across as it expands involves counterfeit products. In China counterfeit goods have traditionally been more accepted than in other countries. Its international e-commerce site AliExpress has gained widespread popularity in Russia, the United States, and Brazil, but its rise in popularity has been accompanied by a rise in counterfeit goods sold through the site. Regulators are worried that the site is allowing counterfeits to go straight from Chinese manufacturers to consumers on a global scale. In fact, Kering SA—a French luxury group—filed a lawsuit against Alibaba accusing the firm of knowingly allowing the sale of counterfeit products. Alibaba denies the charges and is working with government bodies to improve counterfeiting controls.

Despite the risks of investing in a firm that they cannot actually own, investors were eager to purchase shares during Alibaba’s initial public offering. China is overtaking the United States as the largest e-commerce market, and the opportunities are too good for many investors to pass up. They believe Alibaba has the potential for massive global growth as it is less capital intensive and therefore more flexible than global rivals such as Amazon.com.

Questions

  1. What are some of the barriers Alibaba is facing as it expands globally?
  2. Why would the sale of counterfeit products through its sites be damaging to Alibaba?

Scenario

You are a certified public accountant (CPA) who is working with a small bakery to prepare their financial statements for three months of the current fiscal year. Because the company is a startup and so small, the accounting is done manually in Microsoft Excel. You have been given the accounts and information you need to prepare their financial statements, but you will need to use the accounting cycle to report accurate information to the finance department.

Prompt

Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:

  • Accuracy: Prepare entries that are accurate in that they fully reflect the appropriate information.
  • Completeness: Prepare entries that are complete for each month, including transferring posted entries to T accounts.
  • Inventory Valuation: Prepare entries for the month of December to reflect the new line of products offered by the company, which includes using the entries from the “Inventory Valuation” tab to complete your journal for the month of December.

Guidelines for Submission

Using the provided template, submit your company accounting workbook with the following portions completed: October, November, and December journal entries; the “T Accounts” tab; and the “Inventory Valuation” tab. This should be completed and submitted using Microsoft Excel. Please note that there are drop-down menus embedded in the “Accounts” columns as well as formulas throughout the spreadsheet to help you complete the workbook without accidentally introducing errors.

Evaluating Change Management

Sidney Park Health System is experiencing a shortage of coders. Over the past five years, there has been a 30% vacancy rate for coders throughout the main hospital and satellite clinics within the healthcare system. The backlog and vacant positions has created an issue related to unbilled revenue, overworked coders and extended work hours and schedules. It is estimated that there is an annual loss of $12 million. It has also been communicated that many of the qualified coders that were offered a position declined because they are interested in working from home. To address the problem, the health information management department is proposing that there be an implementation of a home-based coding system. This concept is feasible, given that Sidney Park Health System utilizes an electronic health record and all patient information is available electronically. You have been assigned as the project manager to oversee the feasibility and implementation of this project.

Closing the project often involves an assessment of the organization’s readiness for change. In a 2-page summary, discuss why Sidney Park Health System may resist change in implementing a new coding system. In your summary, address the types of behaviors that demonstrate readiness for change and resistance to change, in addition to the concept of the change management cycle. Incorporate specific examples from your project.

Please Meet Criteria!!

A 2-page summary discusses factors that may contribute to Sidney Park Health System resistance to change in implementing a new coding system.

Interesting Tips Help You Sew Great Collars

Interesting Tips Help You Sew Great Collars

When you choose a shirt (T-shirt, shirt, or any kind of shirt), the collar is one of the important positions that you should pay attention to.

If you need a shirt to attend a luxurious party, or you’re going to have fun with your friends on weekends, a shirt will be perfect when it has a nice collar. However, sewing a collar is not a simple technique. So how did you sew the collar fit and beautiful using the best sewing machine for home use?

Tips Help You Sew Great Collars

With the help of top sewing machines for beginners  , you can create the best collar for your project. You need to practice and practice continuously to master the sewing of the collar. In this article, I have some interesting tips to help you sew cool collars!

Tip 1: Long Collar Seam

One of the most important steps, when you sew the collar, is to transfer the pattern. If you have a collar stand, look at it and you’ll see dots and notches. They are instructions for attaching your shoulders correctly. Now, you will sew the collar (at the right side) with only a long seam.

When sewing a collar, try to reduce the bulk areas. I recommend you reduce it to 3/8. Remember the pattern of the collar must be at 3/8. This helps you reduce the bulk seams. Moreover, your collar will be slimmer and trimmer. Finally, you need to open the long seam and make the edges become crisp.

Tip 2: Trim the Collar

When sewing a collar, you should sew short edges seam and use short stitches. This brings safety and strength to your collar. Note that you must trim the ends of the collar. Take this step carefully to make it neat. Next, you will cut diagonally at the angle of the collar.

If your collar project is the right side out, make sure the sides are equal and neat from the corner. When you want to attach it to your shirt, remove the bulky areas as they can unbalance your sewing project even if you use the best basic sewing machine Изображение for newbies. Then, use the tools to push the collar out. At this time, the shape of the collar will be clear.

Tip 3: Final Press

In this step, you will rotate your collar to its original shape and then you will press it. You press from the rounded edges on the collar first, and you will adjust the seam edge to make it crisp. If you create a fit collar with the exact seam, you have a nice shirt!

Sew collar using a beginner sewing machine

After pressing the collar, you will come to the sewing step. You will attach your great collar to the neckline. In this step, let use short stitches. Try to create neatness between the collar and the neckline. It will help your shirt look professional.

Now, if you are trying to start a collaring project with your best heavy duty sewing machine for home use Изображение , apply the tips I provided in this article. Using a strong heavy duty sewing machine will ensure that you can sew through many layers of fabric quickly than regular sewing machines.

In your reasoned opinion, what should become of this federal law in the future?

Even as more states continue to legalize limited use of marijuana, it remains a “Schedule I” illegal substance under federal law. Thus, federal charges can be brought for use and possession of marijuana regardless of state law. The most significant trend among states is toward decriminalization, generally where possession of small amounts of marijuana would not be considered a state crime. Please include these 3 questions in the essay.

1.Although there is a strong trend toward legalization of marijuana at the state level, federal law still considers any use or possession to be illegal— https://www.ncsl.org/research/civil-and-criminal-justice/marijuana-overview.aspx . In your reasoned opinion, what should become of this federal law in the future?page5image677360704

2. Some states have legalized the use of marijuana for medical purposes only while others have also allowed for limited recreational use. Do you draw a distinction between medical and recreational use…in other words, should both be legalized?

3. A marijuana conviction can result in ineligibility for some jobs as well make students ineligible for financial aid. Do you think marijuana should continue to be categorized as a “Schedule I” drug (similar to cocaine or heroin) or is it more similar to alcohol? Explain your response.
