Prior to beginning work on this assignment review Chapters 29, 33, and 36 of Health Informatics: An Interprofessional Approach.

Formulate a paper addressing trends in health informatics using the address the following prompts:

• Discuss the benefits and challenges of simulation technology as a technology trend.
• Given future directional trends in informatics discussed in Chapter 36 of your text such as nanotechnology, predictive analytics, and the Internet of Things (IoT), select a trend that you view to be most important to our society today. Provide a rationale for your choice.
• Analyze the Health Information Technology Governence Activities and Processes summery discussed in Chapter 29 of your text (Box 29.1). Reflecting on your Ashford University major of study, discuss how an organizational leader in health care and/or health and human services would use these activities to prioritize informatics projects related to implementing an informatics trend discussed in Chapter 36.

The Trends in Informatics Paper

• Must be three to four double-spaced pages in length (not including title and references pages) and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center (Links to an external site.)’s APA Style (Links to an external site.)
• Must include a separate title page with the following:
  • Title of paper including the chapter number and case study title
  • Student’s name
  • Course name and number
  • Instructor’s name

Instructions: You are to respond to the topic below using the ideas and concepts we have been discussing in this course. Your response should be between 200 and 300 words. You MUST cite something from within the course (textbook, course pages, discussions, etc.) AND another source you find from outside the course (the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy (Links to an external site.), the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy (Links to an external site.), another book, a journal – check out our library’s online resources (Links to an external site.), Wikipedia, YouTube, a TV show, etc.) when crafting your response. You might want to write this in another application (Google Docs, Word, Notepad, etc.) and copy and paste it.

Pick EITHER “Hoops of Steel” (Chapter 10) or “The Devil Himself” (Chapter 11) and do the following:

For “Hoops of Steel”:

What do you think happens after “Hoops of Steel” ends? What results do you think they get from their experiment? What are the implications of these results on the existence of souls? What are the implications of this for identity purposes? What if the results were the opposite? Would that change things for you? Why or why not?

For “The Devil Himself”:

What do you think happens after the end of “The Devil Himself”? What do you think comes out of the gate? (Here are a few options: another Derek, Jean, some combination of them, some altered version of them, or something entirely different) What are the implications of this for identity purposes? Who is it that appears? What does all of this say about the possibility of our survival after going through something like a transporter? Do you think it would be “you” that comes out of a transporter like the one described? Why or why not?

Your textbook references Leonard White’s perspective in the article titled “Introduction to the Study of Public Administration.” White suggests that successful public administrators are effective at discerning public problems and providing effective and interesting solutions. Using CSU’s Online Library, identify a public (government or nonprofit) problem, and provide a narrative that reflects the practice and research of effective management. 

Your scenario should reference a local, national, or nonprofit incident that requires a public fix. Examples include enlarging a public park, expanding a public library, adding extra wings to a hospital to accommodate increased patient loads, building a new terminal for an expanding airline, adding nonprofit services for low-income families, and increasing mentoring services that support youth programs. After choosing your incident, your essay must include the components listed below. 

• Provide some historical background. 
• Identify key stakeholders involved. 
• Identify the resources needed. 
• Explain what challenges were overcome. 
• Summarize the results. 
• Identify any continued monitoring or oversight that is needed. 
• Summarize the lessons learned regarding how the organization balanced institutional changes to solve the problem. 

Ensure your essay is at least two pages in length but is no longer than four pages in length, is double-spaced, and uses 12-point Times New Roman font with one-inch margins. Section headings are also encouraged to help organize your paper. 

Your essay must be written using APA format. Be sure to include a title page and a reference page, but please note that these will not count toward meeting the minimum page requirement. All sources used, including the textbook, must be cited. Title and reference pages do not count toward meeting the minimum page requirements. 

The purpose of this assignment is to gauge your understanding of the content, so focus on writing original content rather than simply regurgitating the textbook or other sources, whether by paraphrasing or using direct quotes. Paraphrasing is acceptable, but try to keep paraphrasing to a minimum. A good rule of thumb is to use 80% of your own work and to paraphrase 20% or less of the work of others.
