Business ethics week 3

Please Answer the following three prompts, no word count required just a well written paragraph for each question.

W3F1 – Globalization and the Business System

We see the topic and theme of globalization threaded throughout much of our work on the subject business ethics. In the broader context of government, markets, and international trade, current economies contain elements of traditions, commands, and markets where the balance of those elements can vary significantly. Velasquez (2018) examines two important arguments for free markets: moral rights and utilitarianism. As stated by Velasquez, “Controversies over globalization and free trade are but the latest episodes in a great and centuries-long ethical debate over a single question: Should governments allow businesses to trade freely among themselves without interference, or do governments have the right and the duty to impose restrictions on business activities to protect their citizens?” (p 124).

Discuss your response to this question. Offer supporting evidence for your position.

W3F2 – Views on Free Markets

Be sure to read:

3.2: Free Markets and Rights: John Locke;

3.3: Free Markets and Utility: Adam Smith;

3.4: Free Trade and Utility: David Ricardo;

3.5: Karl Marx and Justice: A Critique of Free Markets and Free Trade.

Discuss your view on free markets and offer a supporting example.

W3F3 – Intellectual Property

Velasquez (2018) states, ” Debates have also swirled around the proper balance between property systems that emphasize Lockean notions of private ownership and those that emphasize socialist notions of collective ownership. Nowhere has this debate been more contentious than in regard to the new forms of intellectual property that modern technologies – such as genetic engineering and information technologies – have created.” (p 153).

Velasquez (2018) provides us a working definition “Intellectual property is property that consists of a nonphysical object, such as a software program, a song, an idea, an invention, a recipe, a digital image or sound, a genetic code, or any form of information.” (p 153).

Discuss the current or evolving ethical issues business and government are confronting with intellectual property. Offer an example to support your discussion.

This is a written exam 1.400 words or longer. below i’m going to put the questions that you need to answer.

EXAM 1 QUESTIONS

What is an inductive/deductive argument? Name one KIND of each argument then give an example of each.

What are Euthyphro’s various attempts to define piety (or  holiness) and what are Socrates’ objections to these definitions? Who  gets the better of the argument? Why? What definition for piety would  you give Socrates?

By what means does Socrates attempt to investigate the world? What are  his methods? How does these methods reflect a commitment to critical  thinking, if at all?

What are three Theories of Truth? Give examples of each. Could they work together? Explain.

 Exam 1 – Instructions

For exam one, you will be choosing 4 questions from the questions  list. You can only choose one question per section (eg, you cannot  choose two questions from section 1). Yes, this means there will be  sections you will not choose a question from.

You will write anywhere from 2-4 paragraphs for each question you choose (they can be longer!).

You will be uploading your finished exams to canvas before the due date. In total, your exam should (at minimum) be around    1300-1500 words (but can be longer!).

In writing your answers, you should keep in mind that you are talking  to a fellow student who is not taking our class. So, you will need to  give context, explain ideas, and even source/cite material. Like as if  you were writing a really good (academic) blog post.

You will use all the relevant material from our first unit/module.

This means, at times, you will be using multiple sources in your  answers. I don’t demand actual citations, but referencing lectures,  texts (textbook material and the dialogues), and anything else we have  covered will be crucial but look below for further clarification.

YOU CANNOT USE OUTSIDE SOURCES! Only material from our textbook and canvas are allowed.

All in all, this should not be considered lightly. I have given you  more than three weeks to finish this project and your first major paper  is due the same week, so don’t let things slip!!

You will be uploading to canvas/turnitin so please avoid copy/pasta  from the internet or from working with your friends (as always, some  very minor overlap can happen but you must write your own work!).

General Advice: Write as  if you are speaking to another student who is not enrolled in our class.  They have interest but do not have the context or the background  necessary to understand your answer. So, you should ELABORATE, GIVE  EXAMPLES, PUT THINGS IN CONTEXT, and/or everything else that may help  you explain your answer to your buddy/mom/etc… Follow the handy  checklist below for further clarification.

The Checklist (the minimum):

Remember to ask yourself all the important checklist questions:

Did I answer every part of the question?

  Did I organize my answers?

Did I fully explain any concepts, ideas, thought experiments,  arguments, etc… necessary for a layperson to understand your answer to  the question?

Did I base my answers on what I learned from class (the lectures, the textbook, our discussions, related coursework, etc…)?

Did I provide reasons for my own claims (backed up my claims with  evidence, logic, or sensible assumptions (depends on the context*)?

Did I avoid using sources from outside the class material?

As a shorthand (rough guide), did I write 2-3 paragraphs (6 to 10 sentences each) or more?

Did I use examples to illustrate points or concepts?

Did I meet the minimum word threshold of 1300-1500 words?

For “A”wesome “A”nswers: Did  I cite the textbook or primary readings? Did I draw connections between  course subject matter and my life/literature/culture/society/etc…?  Did I write a minimum of 3-4    long/detailed paragraphs or more?

management information systems

You are building a new kind of online grocery shopping system: MIS130Shop. The system allows customers to register their details online that include a method of payment, and home address. The system will support the following functionality:

1- System can take list of groceries for immediate delivery

2- System allows customer to select regular weekly items that are automatically shipped on a set schedule like milk and eggs

3- The system promises to get the best price found from all grocery shops within the city. But also allows the customer to select a favorite grocery store in case of a tie

4- If you go shopping to certain grocery stores, the system detects your phone and is able to allow you to skip cashier lines by automatically tallying your cart content and charging your credit card.

Questions:

1- What role does each characteristic of an agile MIS infrastructure play in helping this new business operate its business?

2- List the reasons MIS130Shop would need to use a database to run its business. 3- Develop a list of some possible entities and attributes of MIS130Shop’s database

4- Categorize the five common characteristics of high-quality information and rank them in order of importance to MIS130Shop

5- What opportunities do wireless networks and technologies provide to MGIS130Shop?

Your report must have the following sections:

1- Introduction (10/100) Does it describe the purpose of this self-study?

2- Answer to the Questions shown above (50/100 — 10 each)

3- Problems identified from answering the questions (20/100?)

4- Suggested solutions for the identified problems (20/100)

Analyzing a Health Care Data Set

For this assessment, you will determine the relevant statistical tests to apply to the analysis of a data set, and then write a 3–4 page interpretation of the results of your analysis.

This assessment will ask you to select, apply, and interpret the results of a variety of statistical tests on a health care data set. This may include tests you have learned about or applied previously in the course, or the new nonparametic t-Test which is presented in the resources for this assessment. The challenge is using what you have learned to determine the best course of action to complete the interpretative tasks the assessment lays out for you. This attempts to mirror real-world situations where the data or statistical analysis could be approached in a variety of different ways. To decide which statistical test to use for the various dependent variables to be analyzed, one must first know more about the data type (measurement level) within those variables.

Overview

Public health researchers are often involved in collaborating in the design, development, and analysis of community initiatives of varying complexity. While this course alone will not provide sufficient training for you to act as a statistical consultant, it does offer a broad and practice-based analytic foundation that can position you to better understand and more fully contribute to real-world project teams. Building on the basic statistical concepts and analytical techniques of the previous units, this assessment is an opportunity to use your cumulative quantitative-analysis skills to address a broad set of real-world research questions.

Demonstration of Proficiency

By successfully completing this assessment you will address the following scoring guide criteria, which align to the indicated course competencies.

  • Competency 2: Apply appropriate statistical methods using common software tools in the collection and evaluation of health care data.
    • Perform the most appropriate parametric or nonparametric test to answer each question.
  • Competency 3: Interpret the results and practical significance of statistical health care data analyses.
    • Assess the assumption of normal distribution prior to analysis.
    • Appropriately interpret the statistical output (such as estimate, p-value, confidence interval, and effect size) resulting from each statistical test.
    • Summarize the clinical implications, significance, and potential limitations of the study data and outcomes.
  • Competency 4: Assess the quality of quantitative research methods reported in peer-reviewed health care literature.
    • Describe the practical significance of the results of statistical tests.
  • Competency 5: Address assignment purpose in a well-organized text, incorporating appropriate evidence and tone in grammatically sound sentences.
    • Articulate meaning relevant to the main topic, scope, and purpose of the prompt.
    • Apply APA formatting to in-text citations and references.

Instructions

Complete the following for this two-part assessment.

Software

The following statistical analysis software is required to complete your assessments in this course:

  • IBM SPSS Statistics Standard or Premium GradPack, version 22 or higher, for PC or Mac.

You have access to the more robust IBM SPSS Statistics Premium GradPack.

  1. Use the Yoga Stress (PSS) Study Data Set [XLSX] to determine the measurement level of data of the dependent or outcome variable (Psychological Stress Score) you are analyzing.
    • Is the data categorical, ordinal, or interval or ratio?
  2. Before performing any statistical tests, you must determine which tests would be most appropriate for your data type.
    • Perform a preevaluation of the data for outliers (all variables) and normal distribution (only dependent variables) as you have done previously.
    • Use How to Choose a Statistical Test [PPTX] as general guidance in helping you to decide which test to use.
    • Use the readings, media, resources, and textbook as guides to perform an analysis of the selected variables.
  3. Perform and interpret an appropriate series of statistical tests (including preanalytical testing for outliers and normal distribution of data) that answer the following research questions:
    • How would you quantitatively describe the study population?
      • Summarize the primary demographic data using descriptive statistics.
    • Is there any association between gender and race in this military study?
      • Perform an appropriate chi-square analysis.
  4. Perform preliminary assessment of the data, then compare pretest to post-test scores.
    • In total population being studied, what was the effect of the yoga intervention on stress?
  5. Provide the SPSS “.sav” output file that shows your programming and results for this assessment.
Part 2: Interpretive Report
  1. Summarize the clinical implications related to the statistical outcomes for each of the questions above.

Debate This: Respondeat Superior

From Business Law

  • Debate This: Respondeat Superior
  • Chapter 2, p. 661

Lynne Meyer, on her way to a business meeting and in a hurry, stopped by a Buy-Mart store for a new car charger for her smartphone. There was a long line at one of the checkout counters, but a cashier, Valerie Watts, opened another counter and began loading the cash drawer. Meyer told Watts that she was in a hurry and asked Watts to work faster. Watts, however, only slowed her pace. At this point, Meyer hit Watts. It is not clear whether Meyer hit Watts intentionally or, in an attempt to retrieve the car charger, hit her inadvertently. In response, Watts grabbed Meyer by the hair and hit her repeatedly in the back of the head, while Meyer screamed for help. Management personnel separated the two women and questioned them about the incident. Watts was immediately fired for violating the store’s no-fighting policy. Meyer subsequently sued Buy-Mart, alleging that the store was liable for the tort (assault and battery) committed by its employee. Using the information presented in the chapter, answer the following questions.

  1. Under what doctrine discussed in this chapter might Buy-Mart be held liable for the tort committed by Watts?
  2. What is the key factor in determining whether Buy-Mart is liable under this doctrine?
  3. Did Watts’s behavior constitute an intentional tort or a tort of negligence? How would this differ-ence affect Buy-Mart’s potential liability
  4. Suppose that when Watts applied for the job at Buy-Mart, she disclosed in her application that she had previously been convicted of felony assault and battery. Nevertheless, Buy-Mart hired Watts as a cashier. How might this fact affect Buy-Mart’s liability for Watts’s actions

Debate This:

The doctrine of respondeat superior should be modified to make agents solely liable for some of their own tortious (wrongful) acts

 Response:

Respondeat superior is a legal notion that holds an owner accountable for the workers’ behavior while they are on the job(Van Loo, 2020). Organizations face significant civil and criminal penalties under modern laws based on respondeat superior(Ehrenzweig, 2021). Such laws are intended to compel companies to be watchful about the behavior of their employees. Respondeat superior demands that the company’s agent conducts the offense while operating within the agent’s power and influence the organization.

This article discusses the doctrine of Respondent Superior. Under this concept, an institution’s owner may be held accountable for the actions of institution workers or agents. As per the circumstances of Buy-Mart, the company might be held accountable for Watts’ actions. Under the notion of Respondeat Superior, the owners are in the perfect situation in evaluating workers since they incur the expenses that emerge as a consequence of damages incurred by workers or agency.

The scope of the employee’s employment has been a critical aspect in determining whether Buy-Mart is responsible under the doctrines Respondeat Superior.  It examines whether or whether an individual employee’s behavior was within the scope of his employment, as well as the employer’s culpability for employee conduct in a tortious circumstance.

Watts’s actions constituted an indictable offense or a breach of carelessness, and as a result, Buy- Mart’s responsibility will be influenced since Watts perpetrated the tort while working for Buy-Mart (as a cashier), and the concept of respondeat superior does not distinguish between the two.

Buy Mart will suffer as a result of this circumstance. An owner who is aware that a worker has a proclivity to do tortious conduct is liable for the worker’s actions, even though the conduct is not within the scope of employment. As a result, even though Watt’s actions were beyond the scope of his work, Buy Mart would still be responsible for them.

Debate:

There are just a few instances in which the owner can be held accountable for a tortious act committed by an agent. These situations imply irresponsibility or a lack of real purpose on the part of the owner. As a result, there is no need to change the respondeat superior theory to hold agents solely accountable for their tortious activities. However, some may argue that as both employee and employer gain from each other, every individual, whether an agent or not, is accountable for their tortious activities, necessitating changes to the respondeat superior theory.

New IT Security Policy

You have been hired by the Board of Directors of RollinOn, Inc as the new IT Security Manager. RollinOn is a designer of premade and custom designed skates and skateboards.  RollinOn has had some extreme growth in the area of e-Commerce over the past couple of years due to the addition of their custom design tools on their website. However, RollinOn has had some internal security issues.  RollinOn hs had some very lax policies allowing employees to bring their own tablets and laptops, also known as bring your own device or BYOD, and access social media on the intranet. The Web application development team has increased in size and is also in need of sound security practices. There have been several instances of downloaded malware and the company website has been hacked on at least one (1) occasion.

Your main objective is to create an outline of a new IT security policy regarding the company’s web presence and lack of access control. Note: You may create and / or make all necessary assumptions needed for the completion of this assignment.

8, Outline the major components of your new IT security Policy. Be sure to associate each policy with specific risks.

BRANDING STRATEGIES – Research Marketing Management Paper 4 Pages

Research Paper:  to research and write papers summarizing in their own words what they have found on current topics from the weekly readings. Research is a theoretical review of relevant literature and application of findings in the literature to a topic related to a specific industry, field, or business problem.

The research must be conducted using peer-reviewed trade or academic journals. While Blogs, Wikipedia, encyclopedias, course textbooks, popular magazines, newspaper articles, online websites, etc. are helpful for providing background information, these resources are NOT suitable resources for this research assignment.

Assignment Requirements:

  1. BRANDING STRATEGIES  a research topic from the chapter readings
  2. Research/find a minimum at least four (4), preferably five (5) or more, different peer-reviewed articles on your topic Library online business database. The article(s) must be relevant and from a peer-reviewed source. While you may use relevant articles from any time frame, current/published within the last five (5) years are preferred. Using literature that is irrelevant or unrelated to the chosen topic will result in a point reduction.
  3. Write a four (4) to five (5) page double spaced paper in APA format discussing the findings on your specific topic in your own words. Note – paper length does not include cover page, abstract, or references page(s).
  4. Structure your paper as follows:

 a.  Cover page

 b.  Overview describing the importance of the research topic to current business and professional practice in your own words.

 c.  Purpose of Research should reflect  the potential benefit of the topic to the current business and professional practice and the larger body of research.

 d.  Review of the Literature summarized in your own words. Note that this should not be a “copy and paste” of literature content, nor should this section be substantially filled with direct quotes from the article. A literature review is a summary of the major points and findings of each of the selected articles (with appropriate citations). Direct quotations should be used sparingly. Normally, this will be the largest section of your paper (this is not a requirement; just a general observation).

 e.  Practical Application of the literature. Describe how your findings from the relevant research literature can shape, inform, and improve current business and professional practice related to your chosen topic.

 f.  Conclusion in your own words

 g.  References formatted according to APA style requirements

Grading Criteria:

·  Content Knowledge & Structure (25 points): All of the requested components are completed as assigned; content is on topic and related to marketing management, critical thinking is clearly demonstrated (few, if any, direct quotations from the source in the paper); scholarly research is demonstrated; topics and concepts gained from the assigned reading and/or from research is evident.

·  Critical Thinking (15 points): Demonstrates substantial critical thinking about topics and solid interpretation of materials and reflection.

·  Clarity & Effective Communication (15 points): Communication is clear, concise, and well presented; scholarly writing is demonstrated; grammar, sentence structure, writing in third person, and word choice is used correctly.

·  Integration of Knowledge & Articles (15 points): Articles used are current and relevant (preferably published within last five (5) years and MUST be from peer-reviewed journal article publications. At least four (4) peer-reviewed journal articles are examined and analyzed in the paper.

Gerontology – reflection on Informal & Family Caregiving

Write 350-450 words (double space) reflecting on the following case/scenario:

As you continue your aging journey and your health becomes more of a challenge for your social support system – what will be the challenges in receiving the direct care you need for your Instrumental Activities of Daily Living as well as the struggle with Dementia that has recently been diagnosed?  Who will provide this and for how long?  At what cost?  Be realistic in your assessment of who can provide this care (if anyone), how will they provide the care, what are some inherent challenges they will face, and will this promote a healthy outcome for all.  Tie all concepts from Chapters 5 through 7 together in your narrative being helped by your life experience, and your research (use 2 outside resources, remember one of them is a personal communication with an older adult).

Module 7 Overview:

Caregiving in America primarily consists of informal and family caregiving.  The direct and indirect costs of this “shadow workforce” have an impact on the caregivers as well as the care recipients.  The economic value contributed by informal/family caregivers is estimated to be $480 billion – far more than the total expenditures for formal services and more than the annual revenue of some of America’s largest companies.  This contributes to caregiver burden and does not address the caregiver’s access to services, which can result in serious consequences to the caregiver as well as the care recipient.

Module 7 Objectives:  At the end of this module, the student will be able to:

1. Identify the kinds of family/informal caregiving that exists in communities

1b. Discuss the benefits and costs of caregiving

2. Review services and supports for caregivers as well as future service and program directions

3. Discuss caregiver burden, its consequences, and the approaches to relieve it

4. Define direct care workers and their most common characteristics
