Women’s Health Final Report

Students should produce a four- page report based on their awareness/prevention campaign about a health policy/ disease affecting women’s health locally, nationally, or internationally. It can be a health policy brief or a public health campaign. The intention of generating this report should be well-organized and informative. For both options, think about what one would prepare for a letter to teach and stimulate conversation with stakeholders.

This is a chance for the student to practice effective public health communication through investigating their selected topic of interest more deeply and organizing materials in a way that would facilitate educating stakeholders and peers in class. The report should have a small bibliography with relevant articles and websites. Grade will be based on the quality of the report in terms of accuracy, references to peer-reviewed literature, comprehensiveness, objectivity, creativity/ visual aid and grammar/spelling. Report must be double-spaced, font size 12, properly referenced using APA style (where applicable), proofread, and page numbered. Use Times New Roman font style.

You need to think of this final report as a public health report / brief. Your main purpose is to provide a briefing on a women’s health issue among an immigrant/ refugee group in the United States or another country. You need to consider your audience as stakeholders who you need to convince to take action. Action entails funding for intervention, prevention, or research project for a policy change.

THE ARTS AND ROYALTY

“The Arts and Royalty; Philosophers Debate Politics” Please respond to one (1) of the following, using sources under the Explore heading as the basis of your response:

  • In this week’s readings, a dispute in the French royal court is described about whether Poussin or Rubens was the better painter. Take a painting by each, either from our book or a Website below, and compare them and explain which you prefer. There is another conflict between the playwright Moliere and a well-born Parisian; Louis XIV stepped in. Explain how Louis XIV used the various arts and his motives for doing so. Identify one (1) example of a modern political leader approaching the arts this way.
  • The philosophers Thomas Hobbes and John Locke disagreed on the understanding of political authority, with Locke taking what is commonly called the “liberal” view. Choose a side (be brave perhaps; take a side you actually disagree with). Using the writings of each given in our class text or at the Websites below, make your case for the side you chose and against the other side. Identify one (1) modern situation in the world where these issues are significant.

Genre Celebration

One idea for the Genre Celebration is to share an author, illustrator, or poet (depending on the genre). For example, read a minimum of 3 to 5 books (three novels or five picture books). Include these books in your documentation. For the Genre Celebration, display information about the author’s, illustrator’s, or poet’s life, books; and ways that children might study and enjoy that person’s works in the classroom or library setting. You might also think of some ways to invite your involvement.

Note: This is only one example. There are many ways to share a genre with the class. See suggestions throughout the textbook and review children’s literature websites for ideas.

The books that are examples of the genre need to be the focus of your celebration. For example, if you are thinking of some kind of craft or art project, it should be in response to the book and not the focus. Make the books the focal point.

Choose a genre for the celebration. Narrow the genre by choosing a focus and 3 to 5 books to use in the celebration. Be creative!

Create a minimum 15-slide presentation that includes:

  • A summary of the books
  • How the books relate to each other and your chosen focus
  • Literary elements
  • How you would present this in an engaging way to students
  • What standards or grade level goal you would be working toward
  • What benefits these books will provide students
  • How you would facilitate and assess student responses to the literature

Include speaker notes consistent to what would be said in an in-person presentation.

Human Impact on Climate Change PowerPoint

After learning about several ways in which our everyday actions impact climate change, choose one action to conduct more research on and create a PowerPoint presentation to tell us more! Use the unit material and reliable online resources to gather more information.

There are several ideas with information throughout the unit but there is even more information out in the world! Think about what you do every day, and how the activity uses energy or natural resources. Think about a product you buy—how it was made, what natural resources were used to make it? You can also do a quick google search of “everyday activities that effect the environment” and start reading some articles for more ideas.

Remember to use reliable sources from the Internet. There is a lot of misinformation out there and finding reliable information can be difficult. The best sources of reference material for your presentation are scientific journals found in the CSU Online Library databases. Click here for a biology research tutorial that demonstrates how to locate library resources relating to biology You can also find reliable statistics at organization websites listed in the Unit under “Combat Climate Change.”

Your presentation must include:

  1. What everyday activity or product have you chosen to present? Why did you choose this activity or product? Why is it important?
  2. Connect the activity/product to its impact on the environment and climate change. How does doing the activity or making the product use natural resources, disrupt habitat, impact wildlife or other effects on the environment?
  3. Report data and statistics, with references, on how this activity/product effects the environment.
  4. What can people do to decrease the activity/product’s impact on the environment?

Be sure to follow the formatting and guidelines provided below:

  • Include at least three visual aids.
  • Include three reliable references, and at least one source must come from the CSU Online Library.
  • Use bulleted information on slides (five lines or fewer).
  • Include substantial and detailed speaker’s notes that include what you would say in an actual presentation. The speaker’s notes should also reflect the depth of your research.
  • Include a separate title slide and separate reference slide.
  • Use an appropriate font and background.
  • Include at least 11 slides, but not more than 15 slides (not counting your title slide and reference slide).
  • Use correct APA format for references and citations, and use correct grammar and spelling.
