Response To a student post

According to article “Insecure: Policing Under Racial Capitalism” by Robin D.G. Kelley and the article “Yes, We Mean Literally Abolish the Police” by Mariame Kaba, the police are no longer an attribute of safety and security. The facts that are given in the articles are similar within the meaning of the content. The police do not serve for the benefit of the whole community. Racial and class division according to social status became the basis of lawlessness and injustice on the part of the police. Kaaba in his article cites several stories confirming the racial hatred that led to the murder of African Americans. After that, people massively took to the streets of many cities in several countries, demanding an end to racial discrimination and the murder of African Americans. Kelley’s article describes numerous manifestos where demands for police abolition have been raised, but all have been rejected. In the protests, people suggested that they themselves would take care of each other, which the police could not do. I understand that the police system is far from ideal and the permissiveness of police representatives should be limited.  Ruth Wilson Gilmore says that “capitalism is never racial.”  I think that  this phrase she wants to say that the stronger people take away from the weak people and use them for their own well-being.  And since the roots of history go back to slavery, then African Americans are the weak link.  In this regard, a huge number of prisons and police power appeared.  The common and small class do not feel protected, on the contrary; they expect a threat from people who must protect them. The police take an oath to respect and protect human and civil rights and freedoms, regardless of skin color and social status.  If this does not happen, then you need to change the system.

Tax and Auditing

Answer the questions described below. Please make sure to include citations to appropriate authorities.

A. Please defend Alixco’s non-unitary tax filing position.

B. How should the items of income for each company be characterized between business and non-business income? Please prepare your response assuming the auditor has prepared his audit report based on the MTC regulations.

C. Describe how sales of Alixco into California would be apportioned on the combined Missouri tax return and how sales of Alixco into California would be apportioned on the combined California corporate tax return (assuming California follows the “Finnigan” rule). Why?

Smith’s Home Hardware is a successful Arizona based retail operation, realizing significant profits from its retail hardware stores. Smith’s creates a subsidiary (“Alixco”) by contributing $70 million of capital. The contribution of capital includes: $15 million of inventory, $15 million of CD’s, a $10 million office building in Missouri, and patents on high-tech power tools worth $30 million. Alixco’s offices are entirely in Missouri. Alixco will manufacture and sell power tools to the construction industry. In 2001, Alixco realizes income as follows: tool sales $100 million, interest on commercial CD’s $50,000, rent from 9 floors of its 10-story office building $1.5 million, and royalty income of $3 million from overseas licensing of its tool patents. Total business deductions for the year are $85 million.

Alixco hires a president in Missouri. Officers of Smith’s Home Hardware make up the balance of the Board of Directors and Officers. Smith’s internal accounting staff in Arizona maintains the books. A CPA firm in Missouri prepares annual financial statements. The only assets held by Alixco are those mentioned above, plus a newly constructed manufacturing plant in New Mexico and another newly constructed plant across the border in Mexico.

The $15 million of CD’s and $10 million office building were acquired with funds available from retail hardware store operations. Smith’s Home Hardware and Alixco file a consolidated federal tax return. Smith’s Home Hardware files a separate California tax return from Alixco. During 2001, Smith’s Home Hardware received $2 million in dividends from Alixco, which was used to expand existing retail stores. Outside of the original contribution of inventory, there are no intercompany sales. However, approximately 20% of Alixco’s purchases are handled by Smith’s purchasing agents.

Smith’s Home Hardware realized net income in 2001 of $40 million, which was apportioned 75% to Arizona and 25% to California. Smith’s filed a separate return in California for 2001. The California Franchise Tax Board has audited Smith’s Home Hardware and concluded that Smith’s and Alixco should be members of a unitary group filing a combined California tax return. The auditor added the Alixco net business income into the combined return, resulting in a California tax increase of $300,000.

Foreign exchange rates no plagiarism

Foreign exchange impacts the profitability of transactions in international markets. It can turn a profitable business into one that loses money and can turn an unprofitable business into one that makes money.

In this assignment, you will analyze the impact of foreign exchange on different business scenarios and present your findings in a short business memo.

Scenario

You manage the international business for a manufacturing company. You are responsible for the overall profitability of your business unit. Your company ships your products to Malaysia. The retail stores that buy your products there pay you in their local currency, the Malaysian ringgit (MYR). All sales for the first quarter are paid on April 1st and use the exchange rate at the close of business on April 1st or the first business day after April 1st if it falls on a Saturday or Sunday. The company has sales contracts with different vendors that determine the number of units sold well in advance. The company is contractually obligated to sell 4,000 units for exactly 1.25 million MYR for the first quarter. The break-even point for each unit is $90 in U.S. dollars. Use the following foreign exchange rates:

  • On January 1, the daily spot rate is 3.13 MYR, and the forward rate is 0.317 U.S. dollars/MYR for April 1st of the same year.
  • On April 1, the daily spot rate is 3.52 MYR.

Prompt

Using the information above, create a short business memo that explains the profitability, viability, and importance of considering foreign exchange on the basis of the scenarios below.

Scenario 1: The company uses the spot rate on April 1st to convert its sales revenue in MYR to U.S. dollars.

Scenario 2: On January 1st, the company uses that day’s forward rate today to lock in a foreign exchange rate for its expected 1.25 million MYR in sales. This means the company agreed to exchange 1.25 million MYR using the forward rate on January 1st when April 1 arrives.

Scenario 3: Another option for the company is to spend the foreign currency and avoid any currency exchange. Because it is a manufacturing company, raw materials are always needed.

Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:

  • Foreign Exchange Calculations: Determine the profitability of the international business by using foreign exchange calculations for the first and second scenarios.
  • Spend or Save: Discuss what you would need to consider when determining if the company should buy raw materials with the foreign currency in an effort to avoid foreign exchange risk and whether this is a viable option for the company.
  • Conclusion: After determining the result for each scenario, explain the importance to a company’s financial results of considering foreign exchange risk.

Guidelines for Submission

Week 9: Women’s and Men’s Health/Infections and Hematologic Systems, Part I,NURS 6521: Advanced Pharmacology

Discussion: Women’s and Men’s Health, Infectious Disease, and Hematologic Disorders

As an advanced practice nurse, you will likely experience patient encounters with complex comorbidities. For example, consider a female patient who is pregnant who also presents with hypertension, diabetes, and has a recent tuberculosis infection. How might the underlying pathophysiology of these conditions affect the pharmacotherapeutics you might recommend to help address your patient’s health needs? What education strategies might you recommend for ensuring positive patient health outcomes?

For this Discussion, you will be assigned a patient case study and will consider how to address the patient’s current drug therapy plans. You will then suggest recommendations on how to revise these drug therapy plans to ensure effective, safe, and quality patient care for positive patient health outcomes.

To Prepare
  • Review the Resources for this module and reflect on the different health needs and body systems presented.
  • Your Instructor will assign you a complex case study to focus on for this Discussion.
  • Consider how you will practice critical decision making for prescribing appropriate drugs and treatment to address the complex patient health needs in the patient case study you selected.
By Day 3 of Week 9

Post a brief description of your patient’s health needs from the patient case study you assigned. Be specific. Then, explain the type of treatment regimen you would recommend for treating your patient, including the choice or pharmacotherapeutics you would recommend and explain why. Be sure to justify your response. Explain a patient education strategy you might recommend for assisting your patient with the management of their health needs. Be specific and provide examples.

Quality Appraisal and Evaluation

What are the most important actions an organization (and their leaders) should take to create a Quality/Patient Safety Transformation?

As we have been going through the materials from the book, a number of key leadership actions have been identified to move an organization through a process to create a culture of Quality and Patient Safety.

In addition to the materials we have covered, it is also helpful to focus on key steps successful organizations, in this case, The Mayo Clinic, have taken to achieve superior quality and patient safety.

This paper should address what you believe are the most important steps an organization may take to accomplish this critical goal.

Using the attached article and what you have learned thus far in the class, please complete the following steps:

  1.  Read the article “Journey to Perfect – Mayo Clinic and the Path to Quality”.
  2. Upon completion, identify 3-5 steps that you believe were/are the most important steps/actions that the organization took to begin/sustain their Quality/Patient Safety transformation.
  3. Explain the reasons that you chose these key steps or actions.
  4. Explain why you think these are important to you as a leader and how you might include them in your role today or in your future health care career.

The paper should be 750-words, have at least two references outside the assigned text and article, and must have APA formatting. The Written Assignment must reflect graduate-level writing and thinking.
