Philosophy 16

For the assignment (also posted in ‘Course Content’ for ‘Week 13’), I would like you to write a short essay of 1000 to 1200 words (in Times New Roman -12 point font, 1.5 spacing, with a Title at the beginning, and a Works Cited page at the end). Check the attach documents.

Again, you are asked to take a position on one (or two) of the philosophers that we have examined in this third and final part of the course.

What this means is that you can write your paper on one of the following philosophers from Part III of the course:

1. Friedrich Nietzsche (The Madman and The Heaviest Weight)

2. Jean-Paul Sartre (Existentialism is a Humanism)

3. Albert Camus (The Myth of Sisyphus)

Or, you can compare two of these philosophers’ ethical theories:

1. Sartre and Nietzsche (on ‘human freedom’, ‘individualism’)

2. Sartre and Camus (‘existentialism,’ ‘the absurd.’)

3. Camus and Nietzsche (‘repetition’ ‘the eternal return,’ etc.).

As before, the main point of the assignment is that you take a position in your essay on the reading(s).

In close detail, and from the texts that we have examined, clearly and accurately describe the ethical theories of the philosopher (or philosophers) that you have decided to write about.

And also, tell me why you agree or disagree with the ethical theory (or theories) as it relates to the theme of ‘Ethics and the Individual.’ (You may agree with some aspects of a philosopher’s ethics, but disagree with others. Or you may entirely agree or disagree with their main ethical theory).

Also in your paper, as before, argue for the applicability (or inapplicability) of the ethical theory (or theories) in the world today, and in our contemporary society. For example, what can these theories help to teach us about ethics and the individual, when confronted with the problems that we face today?

Above all, as you were required to do in your previous papers, take a clear argumentative position, and argue for it convincingly throughout your essay.

Suggested Question and Topic:

As before, you are free to develop your own original topic for the essay, as it relates to the philosophers and the readings we have examined in this third part of the course.

You are also free to bring back certain theories or ideas from earlier parts of the course, if they will help to strengthen your main thesis.

Here is a suggested essay topic that may help to guide you with the assignment.

1. (Ethics and Individual Freedom)

The theme of human freedom is central to the ethical philosophies of Friedrich Nietzsche, Jean-Paul Sartre, and Albert Camus.

With two of his parables in The Gay Science (1882), ‘The Madman’ and ‘The Heaviest Weight,’ Nietzsche famously addresses the ethical implications of a world without God. He asks us to question where our values in fact come from. And he also forces us to confront the: either completely terrifying, and/or totally liberating sense of freedom that results from this realization.

In his essay outlining his own philosophy of existentialism, ‘Existentialism is a Humanism’ (1946), Sartre famously makes the following two arguments: that “existence precedes essence,” and also, that as individuals, we are “condemned to be free.” For Sartre, in his own words, “man is nothing…but the sum of his actions.”

And finally, in his essay The Myth of Sisyphus (1942), Camus argues that as humans, our lives are eerily similar to the ancient Greek myth in which as punishment, Sisyphus is sentenced to roll his rock up and down a mountain, for all of eternity. Life is “absurd” for Camus. And whatever freedom we may have as individuals, we must also confront the consequences of this absurdity.

To return to the above questions then, for each philosopher, “what is individual freedom,?”, and also, “how does our understanding of freedom affect the way that we act, make ethical decisions, and find meaning and value in our lives?”

Also, for each philosopher, ‘where do our ethics come from?’, and ‘do we in fact need an ethics of society to act ethically as individuals?’, (What is the relationship between the two: ethics of society vs. ethics of the individual)?

(*Again, you are only required to write on One or Two of the above philosophers. You may mention all three in your essay, but the main focus of your paper should be on only one or two).

(As always, please remember to use examples from the text to support your arguments).

Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics

As an advanced practice nurse assisting physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders, it is important to not only understand the impact of disorders on the body, but also the impact of drug treatments on the body. The relationships between drugs and the body can be described by pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. Pharmacokinetics describes what the body does to the drug through absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion, whereas pharmacodynamics describes what the drug does to the body. When selecting drugs and determining dosages for patients, it is essential to consider individual patient factors that might impact the patient’s pharmacokinetic and pharamcodynamic processes. These patient factors include genetics, gender, ethnicity, age, behavior (i.e., diet, nutrition, smoking, alcohol, illicit drug abuse), and/or pathophysiological changes due to disease. In this Discussion, you reflect on a case from your past clinical experiences and consider how a particular patient’s pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes altered his or her response to a drug.

To prepare:

· Review this week’s media presentation with Dr. Terry Buttaro, as well as Chapter 2 of the Arcangelo and Peterson text, and the Scott article in the Learning Resources. Consider the principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.

· Reflect on your experiences, observations, and/or clinical practices from the last five years. Select a case from the last five years that involves a patient whose individual differences in pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic factors altered his or her anticipated response to a drug. When referring to your patient, make sure to use a pseudonym or other false form of identification. This is to ensure the privacy and protection of the patient.

· Consider factors that might have influenced the patient’s pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes such as genetics (including pharmacogenetics), gender, ethnicity, age, behavior, and/or possible pathophysiological changes due to disease.

· Think about a personalized plan of care based on these influencing factors and patient history in your case study.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post a description of the case you selected. Then, describe factors that might have influenced pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes of the patient from the case you selected. Finally, explain details of the personalized plan of care that you would develop based on influencing factors and patient history in your case.

Case Study: Social Media Policies: Are They Legal?

Here are several tips for successfully completing this case study.

  • You should incorporate information from the textbook, the lectures,  and maybe the discussions to support your position. In other words, tell  me more than just your opinion. Provide some relevant facts from the  course material to support your position.
  • Utilize the LexisNexis database in the DeVry University Online  Library to help you research this project. Try the Advanced Search area  and look up laws, news, and law reviews using combinations of keywords  like social media, Facebook, NLRB, and concerted activity.

The Internet also has a wealth of information on this topic, and  you should use these sources to supplement your assignment if you  desire. On the Course Resources page under Modules there is a number of  websites that you can use to help you complete this assignment. If you  research your own Internet sources, be cautious about your sources. Make  sure that the site is from a reputable organization. There is an  expectation that at least some citations and references are used for all  assignments.

Week 2 Case Study: Social Media Policies, Concerted Activity, and HR Management

In the last few years, companies have begun initiating and  implementing social media policies for their employees to follow. These  policies range from encouraging employees to utilizing social media for  marketing purposes, to restricting the use of social media for employees  in order to ensure that they do not hurt the company image. As these  policies become more widespread, both the Society for Human Resource  Management and the NLRB (National Labor Relations Board) have become  concerned about the limits on speech and activity that employers are  imposing on their workers. Further, in some states, laws are being  passed to protect employees and potential employees from being required  to disclose social media passwords during job interviews or after hire.  Finally, many ethical concerns are being raised about the use of social  media as a method of doing quick, informal background checks on  potential hires or current employees.

For your homework this week, research the following questions and  provide your findings in answers that are long enough to sufficiently  answer the questions (about 2–3 good paragraphs each). Provide citations  in APA style for each of your answers. Use APA formatting in your Word  document that you submit. Save your file with your last name in the  filename, please. Let your professor know if you have questions!

Questions to Research and Answer

The NLRB has made findings regarding the use of employee posts on  social media sites to discipline or terminate those employees.  Typically, these cases occur when an employee posts negative information  about his or her current employer or boss. Sometimes, these are public,  and other times, the employer uses spies or fake friending to see the  Facebook page of the employee.

  1. Find at least one case or article online regarding this topic, and  briefly explain the facts of the case, and the determination of the NLRB  as to whether the employee was properly or improperly disciplined or  terminated as a result of his or her use of social media to complain  about, criticize, or publicly bash his or her company or boss. Provide  the citation to the article that you discover. (Use the term concerted activity in your query or search to help you find one of these cases.) (50 points)
  2. Do you agree with the decision of the NLRB or court in the case that  you described in Question #1 above? Why or why not? (1–3 paragraphs).  (20 points)
  3. Assume that this case happened at a place where you have worked in  the past, or where you work now (or want to work.) Give an example of  how the decision in the case above could lead to better or worse  employee relations in your company. (30 points)
  4. Explain how you would communicate this decision to your employees or  supervisors (depending on the decision you have selected) to ensure  that situations like this do not occur again. In your answer, determine  whether or not you feel a social media policy is a good method. If so,  list at least three things you would include in your policy and why you  would include them. If you do not feel a social media policy is  appropriate, explain why you would not implement one (give at least two  valid reasons). (3–4 paragraphs) (35 points)

To ensure that your paper isn’t flagged in Turnitin.com, do NOT copy  and paste the questions into your paper. Instead, set up headings for  each section where you answer the questions, using good APA form. Please  title your assignment with your last name and week number (for example,  Smith Week1.docx).

Article reflection #3

  1. Read the article “Jobless Claims Fall Sharply to 684,000, 4Q GDP Revised Upward” by Tim Smart.
    The article is uploaded!

    • In a word document or a pdf file, submit the following:
    • (20 points) A detailed summary of the article (5-6 sentences ONLY).
    • (30 points) Using the information provided in the article, identify the current state of the US economy on a business cycle diagram. Identify whether the US economy is at a peak, trough, recession, or expansion. Explain your answer using the concepts we learned in Chapters 9, 11, and 17.
    • (50 points) Read the following quote and answer questions about it:

“Both reports come on the one-year anniversary of the passage of the CARES Act, the first of
three coronavirus relief packages passed by Congress, the latest of which is now sending
$1,400 checks to Americans. All told, about $5 trillion in fiscal stimulus has been added to
the U.S. economy in the past 12 months as well…”

  • (20 points) What type of policy are the CARES Act and relief packages passed by Congress? What is the goal of these policies? Explain in detail using concepts learned in Chapters 21 to 23.
  • (30 points) Using aggregate demand and aggregate supply diagrams, show the before and after effects of COVID-19, and the effect of the stimulus packages on the US economy. In a paragraph, explain why the curve(s) shifted.
  1. For extra credit points, answer the following questions:
    • (5 points) Let’s say Congress asked you for help. What other policy would you suggest to get the US economy back or close to its full-employment level (besides what is already mentioned in this assignment)? Explain in detail using the concepts we learned this semester.

Assessment 6

Objectives: The presentation project has more than a fewobjectives. This Chapter joins the section on critical issues for healthcare organizations, but it is also important for patients and their families. The writers of Chapter 11 faced the challenge of addressing changes that may or may not happen, but they did provide background and ethics discussion. Because of the fluidity of this topic, you will create a PowerPoint presentation.

Format and Guidelines:  The student will produce a Power Point Presentation from Chapter 11 of the Textbook and Choose your desire topic form these chapter. The Presentation should have 14 slides, including Title Page, Introduction, Conclusion, and References.

The student must use other textbooks, research papers, and articles as references (minimum 3).

EACH POWEROIINT SHOULD INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

1. Title Page: Topic Name, Student  Name

2. Introduction: Provide a brief synopsis of the meaning (not a description) of the topic you choose, in your own words

3. Content Body: Progress your theme, provide Material, illustrations and Diagram to explain, describe and clarify the Topic you choose.

4. Conclusion: Briefly summarize your thoughts & conclusion to your critique of the Chapter you read.

 5. References: The student must use other textbooks, research papers, and articles as references (minimum 3 within the last 4 years).

Critical Threats to the Global Environment

Week 10 Assignment – Critical Threats to the Global Environment

Overview

The United Nations has continued to retain you as a consultant for a project that deals with climate and the environment. Most developed countries see the dangers of releasing too much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and are committed to climate policies that attain a carbon-free future in the next 30 years. They already see the damaging effects that this gas alone is having on the living conditions of crops, wildlife, and humans. As a result, many member states are dissatisfied with the progress of the eight Millennium Development Goals for international development that they established in 2000. The member states see a substantial disconnect between several issues that developed and developing countries believe are priorities. For example, Burundi wants one of the goals to focus on food security, while Austria is adamant that a major global issue should be the negotiation of ceasefires in countries in the midst of civil wars. The UN wants you to work from the list below and prioritize two of the global community’s threats that it deems the most serious to environmental stability.

Instructions

Step 1

Select two threats. Listed below are eight issues that the UN feels pose the most significant threats to global security. Some of these apply to the Earth’s 7.7 billion people, while others are limited primarily to developing countries. Regardless of where these threats are concentrated, your job as a consultant is to identify two of them that you consider the most critical to the globe’s population.

Issue Options
  1. The use of fossil fuels as an energy source.
  2. Globalization.
  3. Insufficient educational opportunities in developing countries.
  4. A lack of access to technology.
  5. Civil war (NOT the U.S. Civil War).
  6. The rise in oceans’ levels.
  7. Covid-19 and the global pandemic.
  8. The dangers of poor countries remaining poor.
Step 2

Write a minimum of an 8 page persuasive paper about your two threats.

Write an introduction paragraph of at least one-half page in length identifying the two threats you have selected and the purpose of the paper. Then, for the two threats you chose:

  1. Identify the factors that make it such a serious risk to the global environment that you would choose to present it to the UN.
  2. Analyze the role that humans have played in aggravating this threat to the Earth’s environment.
  3. Suggest initiatives that the global community can take to mitigate the worst effects of this environmental threat.
  4. Write a conclusion paragraph of at least one-half page in length that summarizes your impressions of these risks for global stability.

Guidelines

  1. This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards (SWS). For assistance and information, please refer to the SWS link in the left-hand menu of your course and check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  2. In order to earn full credit, the answers to each of the three questions must be at least two full pages long, making six pages. You must also include the one-half page introduction and one-half page conclusion at the beginning and end of the paper, adding up to one page of content. Finally, you must include a graph or table (see 5, below) that will be at least one page in length. The entire paper will be a minimum of eight pages long.
  3. You must use at least seven credible sources (excluding Wikipedia, dictionaries and encyclopedias) that are appropriate for the subjects under discussion.
  4. You must use only double-spacing and not place extra spacing between paragraphs or section headings.
  5. As part of your answer to any one of the questions, you must include a graph, table or chart using quantifiable data that supports your argument. You need only one graph for the entire assignment, and although you may download this item from the Internet, it may be no longer than one page in length. You must comprehensively explain beneath the graph what the data means. Otherwise, it will be of no use to the reader.

The specific course learning outcome associated with this assignment is as follows:

Legal Reg, Compliance, Invest Discussion

One and half page is fine

Managing Risk

Your company has decided to implement a human resource demographic portal.  Under the system envisioned, employees would be able to use an online internal web page to change various personal information items themselves, such as, address phone, etc.  In addition, the employees would be able to change limited payroll related items, such as 401k deduction percentages or amounts, optional United Way contributions, and the number of federal and state exemptions to be claimed. Along with thie portal would be the ability to view, download, and print current and YTD pay information, including the current paycheck and check “stub”.

Under the current system, employees must go to the HR office to make any changes – there is no online access.

Your company already requires direct deposit for all employees, and under the new system, pay stubs would no longer be printed.  Employees would be able to do this as needed through the portal.

There are many potential risks associated with this project

  1. Your task is to Identify as many risks as you can (4 is a minimum, but feel free to identify more risks if you so desire).
  2. Determine the relative likelihood of each risk occurring (lowmedium high)
  3. Propose at least one strategy for addressing each risk, and describe the strategy in terms of the 4 risk responses (Avoidance, Transference, Mitigation, or Acceptance).

Remember that sometimes, risks are acceptable and can be taken, so long they are identified and a strategy to address the risk is presented.  For example, driving a car is a risky venture, but to address that risk we have driver’s education (mitigation), manufacturing safety standards (mitigation), insurance (transference), and staying at home (avoidance). Driving an older, unsafe vehicle by an unlicensed and uninsured motorist could be considered acceptance,

.

Turn in as much as needed. (Sometimes less is more, sometimes more is more; it’s your call.)

Support your strategies as needed with external references, and make sure your answer directly address the potential risks with the  human resource demographic portal.

Assessment Design

[WLO: 2] [CLOs: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Over the last five weeks, your assignments have been preparing you for this Final Paper. As you compile this paper from your previous assignments, you will realize that what you have been doing is a reflection of backward design planning.

To prepare for this assignment,

  • Review your instructor’s feedback on all assignments from Weeks 1 through 4. Read the summative comments within Waypoint as well as all other comments. Often times instructors will leave embedded comments directly in your paper. As you work through each component of this assignment, make any corrections or revisions recommended by your instructor.
  • Review and use the Week 6 Assessment Design Final Paper Template Summative Assessment Template.
  • Research for at least two scholarly sources (Links to an external site.) that will support your analysis within your paper.

Content Instructions

Use the following outline as you structure and complete your Assessment Design Final Paper:

  • Standard and Learning Objective
    • List your selected pathway from Week 1, the standard, and learning objectives.
  • Formative Assessment
    • First, describe the importance of formative assessment. What is it? Why should formative assessments be part of every lesson plan? How should they be used? This is where you should include evidence from your readings to support your description.
    • Second, based on your Week 2 assignment and any necessary revisions, explain the three different ways you plan to formatively assess learners based on the standard and learning objective you selected. Be sure that at least one of your formative assessments utilize technology. Describe how these formative assessments are aligned with your standard and learning objectives.
  • Development of Summative Assessment
    • In Week 3, you created a test blueprint that captures the different types of questions you will ask that are aligned to at least three different levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy. Make any necessary revisions based on instructor’s feedback and then insert your test blueprint.
    • Then, list your 10 questions that you developed in Week 3 making any necessary revisions based on your instructor’s feedback. Your 10 test questions must include the following:
      • Each question should include the learning objective it is aligned to as well as the level of Bloom’s Taxonomy the question addresses.
      • List the type of question it is (selected-response, constructed, or performance)
      • You must include at least 6 selected response questions, 3 constructed questions and 1 performance-based question.
  • Development of Rubric for Performance Assessment
    • In Week 3, you developed a rubric for the performance-based assessment that you created for your summative assessment. Review the instructor’s feedback, make any necessary revisions and then include the rubric here.
  • Analysis of Data and Interpretation
    • In Week 4, review your instructor’s feedback based on how you analyzed your data. Make any necessary revisions and include the entire assignment except for the conclusion.
  • Reflection
    • In Chapter 11.1 of your text, Lefrançois (2014) discusses various grading systems. One such method to help learners become self-regulated is to engage them in self-assessments. You will perform your own self-assessment of your final project by completing the following:
      • Access the rubric for your final project.
      • Review the rubric and assess your level of proficiency for each criterion.
      • List the criteria, the proficiency level you think you performed, and your rationale. Consider using a table to complete this task.
      • After reviewing the rubric and self-assessing your work, was there anything that you changed in your assignment? If so, what was it and why?
      • Then briefly discuss the benefits of having learners self-assess their own work. Provide evidence from your readings or outside sources to support your response.

Written Communication Instructions

Your Assessment Design Final Paper

  • Must be eight to 10 double-spaced pages in length (not including title and reference pages) and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
  • Must include a separate title page with the following:
    • Title of paper
    • Student’s name
    • Course name and number
    • Instructor’s name
    • Date submitted

For further assistance with the formatting and the title page, refer to APA Formatting for Word 2013 (Links to an external site.).

Case Study HIV_Aids & Nurse Res.

Requirements

Carefully read the “case study” (linked at the top) and type a report that details your specific analysis and recommendations about how problems presented in the case might be approached and solved. Make sure your analysis and report answers the questions raised. Your report should be 3-4 pages in length, single spaced, and use APA for citations (a minimum of 3 are required). This is a formal document and should be written as a letter to the company who brought you on as a consultant(s). There should be a brief introduction paragraph that previews the letter, the body where the following steps are discussed, and a conclusion paragraph that recaps the letter and reinforces your relationship. I will be grading your individual case study on your ability to follow the format and your ability to address and respond to the following five steps. Submit your report to Canvas on the date noted in the syllabus.  100 Points.

Guide to Analyze the case study

presents a structured framework to help you analyze such cases as well as the case studies in this text. Knowing how to analyze a case will help you attack virtually any business problem. A case study helps students learn by immersing them in a real-world business scenario where they can act as problem-solvers and decision-makers. The case presents facts about a particular organization. Students are asked to analyze the case by focusing on the most important facts and using this information to determine the opportunities and problems facing that organization. Students are then asked to identify alternative courses of action to deal with the problems they identify. A case study analysis must not merely summarize the case. It should identify key issues and problems, outline and assess alternative courses of action, and draw appropriate conclusions. The case study analysis should be broken down into the following steps:

Your individual and group case study must discuss the following five steps. I recommend you use these as the main points for the body of your case study. You can take these steps and modify them to make headings for your case study following a letter format.

  1. Identify the most important facts surrounding the case.
  2. Identify the key issue or issues.
  3. Specify alternative courses of action.
  4. Evaluate each course of action.
  5. Recommend the best course of action (supported by research, minimum of 3 sources in APA).

theirs part 2

  1. Were you surprised at the current size of the human population or at its changes since your year of birth? I was not shocked about the change in number of births since my birth year or the human population. In one of my past classes we talked about how high the number is getting and the effects of the number increasing over time. I feel like since the pandemic, the numbers should drop some. I know they will not drop enough to change the long term effects of the population, but I feel like the pandemic did wipe out a small portion of the population.
  2. How many people do you believe the Earth can support without dire environmental damage? Based on the article, “How many people can our planet really support” by bbc, no one knows the exact amount of people the Earth can support without dire environmental damage. Highly populated cities are already facing some challenges of air pollution. I believe the earth is slowly facing dire environmental change because of global warming and toxic waste dumping.
  3. Should developed countries help slow the population growth of developing countries? If so, what sorts of methods should be employed to do this? I do not think developed countries should slow the population growth. If they were to attempt this, they would be taking away freedom rights from many people. The countries would receive negative feedback. There is no way to fix the population growth on a short term scale. It would take years and years to fix this issue. The thing countries could fix sooner is the environmental issues, such as global warming, toxic waste etc. I feel like fixing those issues would create a healthier environment and be a shorter term solution than fixing the whole population.
