Gender stereotyping reflects the perceived psychological traits and characteristics of males and females and the related roles that are thought to be appropriate for each gender in the family, work, school, and society as a whole. Gender stereotyping impacts individuals in terms of how they view themselves and their place in society, as well as how society views the respective gender and the appropriate behavior and roles for each. The implications can be far reaching.

It is evident by studying history that gender stereotypes have changed over time. One obvious example is in the history of women’s suffrage. At one time, it was believed in the United States that women were not sufficiently mentally astute to vote on the important issues impacting society. A woman’s place was thought to be in the home raising children and taking care of the domestic needs of the family. With women’s suffrage in the early 20th century and the century that has followed, this stereotype has been changed. Not only do women vote, but they hold every office at all levels including heads of state and presidencies around the globe.

In this Assignment, you will explore gender stereotypes in some depth, including a consideration of the numerous stereotypes for both men and women and how these stereotypes impact individuals of that gender, the opposite gender, and society as a whole.

To prepare

• Review this week’s Learning Resources, focusing on gender stereotyping, the impact it may have on society and individuals, and cultural differences and similarities in gender stereotyping.
• Think about the following questions:
  • What are common stereotypes for men?
  • What are common stereotypes for women?
  • How have these stereotypes changed over time? What stereotypes have not really changed?
  • What impact do these stereotypes have on individuals of that gender, the opposite gender, and society as a whole? Think in terms of the life of the individuals, the families, school life and the educational journey, work life and career options, health and wellness issues, sexual attitudes and behaviors, and so forth.
  • Consider whether and how any of the stereotypes have impacted you personally.
  • What impact has the media had on perpetuating gender stereotypes?

Write a 1- to 3-page paper in which you describe a gender stereotype that exists in your culture and analyze it as follows:

• Explain the effects that the stereotype has on both males and females in your culture. Think in terms of the impact on family, school, work, health, sexual behaviors and attitudes, and so forth.
• Explain what perpetuates the stereotype.
• Explain how, if at all, this stereotype has impacted you personally.

Assignment Instructions

TOPIC:  Why Do Some Managers Hate the Performance Evaluation?

You are to conduct research and write a paper on the following subject, “Why Do Some Managers Hate the Performance Evaluation?” and answer the following two questions:

1. Some managers would rather get a root canal than go through the performance evaluation process with their direct reports.  Why? 
2. What does research tell you?

As you respond to the two questions listed above, please address the following:

• What traits does an effective manager display in the workplace? 
• Is there a profile for a manager who may struggle with the evaluation process?
• What are the key elements of a successful employee evaluation process?  How should a manager prepare for the event?
• Develop an evaluation form for your direct reports and show how the evaluation criterion correlates to the organization’s objectives.

You are to support your ideas, arguments, and opinions with independent research, include at least two (2) supporting references or sources (NOT Wikipedia, unknown, or anonymous sources), and format your work in accordance with 6th edition APA formatting which includes:

• A Title Page
• Abstract with Keywords
• A minimum of 3 FULL pages of written content, Times New Roman, 12 font, 1″ margins, left justified, and 
• A Reference page

Problem solving in early childhood education environments is done mostly in groups rather than individually. One person is not responsible for coming up with all the answers, but rather with synthesizing information to help implement the best solutions for a child.

A discussion in this unit asks you to work in small groups to address the issues of Case 14, “Tomasito Is Too Big to Hold Hands” (Weiss et al., pages 149–157). After participating in the discussion, individually create your own analysis to the following questions:

• How do family processes influence Tomasito’s development?
• How does Tomasito’s sense of connectedness affect his motivation to learn? How does it affect those around him and the way they support his learning?
• If you were sharing the results of math work and math assessments with Tomasito and his family, how would you go about doing that to optimize his future success in the subject?
• What are the possible ways of building reciprocal relationships with this family? Which do you think are the most appropriate and why? What support can be offered and how can parents be encouraged to be more involved?

As with any analysis, your report should provide the reasons behind your assessments and recommendations. Use examples from the case study and other appropriate reading to support your responses. Your final report should be 3-5 pages long and be written in scholarly and APA style.

Read the following case scenario:

Linda Rhodes and her boyfriend, Joe Marshall, were arrested as a result of a drug raid. Linda was making dinner for her children, who were with her in the kitchen, and Joe, who was in the living room, when the police, led by Sgt. Rick Rodgers, broke down her door. Linda owns the house. Joe has no ownership interest in the house but has been living there for the last year. The police found several ounces of cocaine, packaging material, scales, and a large amount of currency in small denominations in Linda and Joe’s bedroom. The cocaine was found in a dresser drawer, but the rest of the items were on the bed in plain view. Both Linda and Joe were charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute it.

Joe Marshall has been arrested twice before for drug offenses. The first arrest was three years ago when he was charged with intent to sell, to which he pled guilty to possession and received five years’ probation. The second arrest was six months ago; however, the case was dropped for lack of evidence when the police evidence room lost the drugs.

Joe was also arrested three times for domestic violence: five years ago and three years ago against his former wife, and three months ago for beating Linda. All the cases were dropped when the victims refused to testify.

Linda has been arrested twice, eight and five years ago, for possession of marijuana. The first case was dropped when she identified her dealer. She pled guilty to the second charge and received one year of probation.

Linda works for a maid service, cleaning private homes. Joe has no known employment and claims to be a musician. Linda’s income from the maid service is the only known source of income for the household.

On the day in question, the police broke down the door without knocking or announcement. There was no other damage to the house, but the house was turned “upside down.” The police properly collected and tagged all of the evidence and immediately transferred it to the police evidence room. Both Joe and Linda claim to have no knowledge of the cocaine.

The police questioned Linda’s daughters, Sally (age 3) and Sara (age 9). Sally was crying and had no coherent statement about the incident. Sara told the police that she saw Joe with the “white powder” and that he said it was for a bubble bath and a surprise for mommy and that Sara should “keep it secret.”

An informant told Sgt. Rodgers about the cocaine. The informant’s name was not revealed, but he has provided reliable information in the past. The police were watching the house while waiting for a warrant. They claim they heard screams and decided to enter the house due to the knowledge that young children were in the house. The warrant was delivered one hour later.

Research Fourth Amendment cases involving searches, warrants, and exigent circumstances.

In your paper,

• Define probable cause and its relationship to determining the legality of a search.
• Explain the purpose and application of the exclusionary rule.
• Identify whether Joe had legal standing to object to the search.
• Describe whether the cash, packaging material, and scales admissible at trial if the police rely on exigent circumstances.
• Explain whether the evidence of the cocaine is admissible at trial.
• Identify whether the police had the right to go into the bedroom when relying on exigent circumstances.
